Accessing JSP variables in Included Javascript

Hey All,
I want to hide my javascript to be viewed on the client browser.
I know we can do that with the javascript include ,But i am using JSP variables in
Included javascript.I can't access those variables any more.
Does anybody know any workarround.
Thanx
Vijay

Hi Vijay,
I am also facing the same problem of hiding javascript in the client browser. My javascript variables are getting initialised on the fly using JSP. Since JSP is compiled on the server side, one can't compile .js file on the client side.
What u can do is to divide your page into frames with
<frameset rows="100%,0%">. Now put your form hidden fields or the .js file in frame 2 which is not visible to the user and then assign your jsp variables in the frame2 html/jsp page. Now access your variables from frame2 in frame1 using
var i = parent.frames[1].document.forms[0].elements[0].value
Assuming that there is 1 form and 1 hidden field in frame2 html/jsp page.
I hope u get the logic rite....
I had done it for application but problem is that our users are real MORONS and they keep doing ctrl+F5 which takes them to the Indexpage.
If you get some other solution then please mail it to my email address

  • Can JavaScript access JSP variable?

    Could we do this? Or, how could we have JavaScript access JSP variable?
    <%
    String fooBar = request.getParameter(......
    %>
    <script language="JavaScript">
    <!--
    if (fooBar  == ...) {
    -->

    To access the variable in Javascript you'll have to
    write it out from the JSP. You'll need to do something
    like:
    <%
    String fooBar = request.getParameter(......
    %>
    <script language="JavaScript">
    <!--
    var fooBar = '<%=encodeQuotes(fooBar)%>';
    if (fooBar  == ...) {
    -->
    </script>You'll need to either make sure fooBar doesn't contain
    any quotes or write a function to replace each ' with
    \'.Thanks!
    That works perfectly, without encodeQuote() method in my current case.
    Thanks again. You ar a saviour.

  • Accessing JSP Variables in Custom Tag Handler.

    Hi,
    I am creating a custom tag which builds a list view. I have certain String array in my JSP and I need to pass the same into my Tag Handler class. I tried following ways :
    1. In doStartTag() implementation I used
       public int doStartTag() {
             String[] myArray = (String[])pageContext.getAttribute("mystringarray", PageContext.PAGE_SCOPE;
       }This is not recognizing the String array variable defined in my JSP.
    2. I used separate attribute which is passed from the JSP to the custom tag as parameter having "rtexprvalue" as true. But I cann't pass a Sting array into my tag handler class. I can pass only String.
    How can I access variables which are defined in the JSP using declaration block. i.e.
    <%!
    String[] myArray = new String[100];
    %>
    Thanks for the time.

    You should be able to pass any type you like as an attribute to the tag.
    You just have to define its type as String[] in your tld:
    <attribute>
    <name>stringArray</name>
    <required>false</required>
    <rtexprvalue>true</rtexprvalue>
    <type>java.lang.String[]</type>
    </attribute>
    Alternatively, If you declare your array like:
    <%!
    String[] myArray = new String[100];
    %>You can do this:
    pageContext.setAttribute("mystringarray", myArray);
    which will put it into the page context for you to pick up in your custom tag.
    Hope this helps,

  • How to access a variable from a dynamically included JSP page

    I have a jsp (say main.jsp) using the following in its code :
    <jsp:include page="menu.jsp" flush="true" />
    I have a variable in menu.jsp which I would like to use in my main.jsp.
    How do I get the value of the variable defined in menu.jsp ?
    I called this variable in menu.jsp, Public, but this didnot help me use the value of that variable in main.jsp
    Any help is highly appreciated.. thnks a lot

    I do notice the variable var1 has the value populated - in menu.jsp - (from View -->
    Source in the browser) but for some reason not able to use it in main.jspI'm not quite sure of the way your jsps are structured from your code snippet but I think there is something to be aware of here that may be part of your problem, namely the difference between the include directive and the include action.
    You are currently using the include action, this treats the included resource as a dynamic object - i.e. a request is sent to that resource and the resulting response is included in your page. So when you think of what there is no java variable actually included - you'll just get the resulting HTML that is generated by menu.jsp
    The include directive, as in <%@include file=menu.jsp %>, on the other hand treats the resource as a static object. This means the actual bytes in the included resource are inserted into the including jsp and then the result of that is compiled and processed, effectively you are cutting and pasting the menu.jsp into your calling jsp. In this case the variable would be available to the calling jsp.
    However this approach does bring other difficulties that may break your current code, you'll just have to try it and see what happens.
    Hope that's relevant to your problem,
    Matt

  • Access session variable in Java Function in JSP

    Hi Experts !!
    I am developing an application using STRUTS MVC...
    Very sorry if u have problem understanding my question, i ll try to improve... and sorry if i can't post codes here
    Basic question is ....
    I want to open a word document on pageLoad of JSP, the word document is not a single document, there is a form in which there is a "name" and "template" whenever user clicks on a button there is one action attached to it which creates a copy of that template in a different folder.. on the next page OnLoad i want to open that particular document. for that i have created a variable and also have set in the session, just want to access it in the below code.
    I have a formbean in which i have a variable, the scope is session, that variable i have put it in session also. but i want to access that variable in a "java function" in JSP so that "onLoad" page that function should work.
    JSP---
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function openDocument() {
    var w = new ActiveXObject("Word.Application");
    var docText;
    var obj;
    var a;
    if (w != null) {
    w.Visible = true;
    obj = w.Documents.Open(I HAVE TO ACCESS THAT VARIABLE HERE);
    </script>
    FORMBEAN----
    public class CreateSOWFormBean extends ActionForm {
    private String workflowName;
    private String comment;
    private String sowTemplate;
    private String sowFileCreated;
    public String getSowFileCreated() {
    return sowFileCreated;
    public void setSowFileCreated(String sowFileCreated) {
    this.sowFileCreated = sowFileCreated;
    sowFileCreated is the variable that i have accessed in session and that value i have to pass in that function in JSP....
    I am aware of something like
    obj = w.Documents.Open(<%'sowFileCreated'%>);
    but i m not sure how to write....
    Plz help.....

    If you're working under a framework like struts you should definitely be using JSTL tags rather than scriptlet code to access variables within the page. With JSTL code <% codes can be almost entirely avoided.
    To transfer a value from a Servlet to a JSP don't use a session variable, use a request attribute. Session variables should only be used when values have to survive from one transaction to another.
    You can write something like:
    obj = w.Documents.open('<c:out value="${openURL}"/>');in the Javascript portion of your JSP.
    Just beware of potential problems with quotes. The coresponding code in the Servlet would be like:
    request.setAttribute("openURL", openUrl);

  • Access netui pageflow data from javascript in a response.jsp

    How do I access a pageflow variable from a javascript in a response.jsp page? I understand that the follow line can be used in a response.jsp:
    <netui:label value="{pageFlow.m_applicant.createdDate}"/>, but it can not be used in a javascript of that rensponse.jsp.

    Jack,
    You can't directly bind to a pageFlow variable but you can store the
    variable in the page using the getData tag and access it via javascript as I
    have done in this example.
    <netui-data:getData resultId="myId" value="{pageFlow.theString}" />
    <script language="javascript">
    function showAlert()
    var myJpfProperty = "<%=pageContext.getAttribute(
    "myId" )%>";
    alert( "Here is the Jpf property value: " + myJpfProperty );
    </script>
    Here is some related documentation, though it doesn't show a javascript
    example

  • Help: How to assign dynamically a javascript variable to a jsp variable???

    Hello all,
    What I need to do is to assign the value of the html form element which is a checkbox in this case:
    <input name="ADB02_checkbox" type=checkbox id="ADB02_checkbox" onClick="decide_enable_or_disable_particular_checkbox()" value="ADB02">
    to a jsp variable :
    <%
    String riderCode = "";
    %>
    Its dynamic because i need to do different operations based on different rider codes like in this function:
    function decide_enable_or_disable_particular_checkbox() {
    var rider = document.rider_form;
    alert(rider.ADB02_checkbox.value);
    if (rider.<%= riderCode%>_checkbox.checked == true) {
    enable_all_row_elements_for_<%= riderCode%>();
    else {
         disable_all_row_elements();
    which uses the naming of the rider code to call other corresponding functions.
    so is there any way that you guys ca suggest a solution.
    what i thought is to do this:
    function decide_enable_or_disable_particular_checkbox() {
    var rider = document.rider_form;
    HERE--> riderCode = rider.ADB02_checkbox.value;
    alert(rider.ADB02_checkbox.value);
    if (rider.<%= riderCode%>_checkbox.checked == true) {
    enable_all_row_elements_for_<%= riderCode%>();
    else {
         disable_all_row_elements();
    or
    add an onFocus="riderCode = document.rider_form.ADB02_checkbox.value;" in the checkbox tag.
    but can i do that or is there any other way or is it totally impossible to assign javascript values to jsp variables.

    Hi again,
    I got a problem here abt looping in javascript.
    The prob is that only the 1st loop works the rest are not.
    So only the checkbox in the 1st row is enabled, the rest aren't.(only ADB02 is enabled not DLP01 cause ADB02 is 1st in the loop)
    Here are 2 of many of the checkboxes in different rows:
    <input name="ADB02_checkbox" type="checkbox" id="ADB02_checkbox" value="checkbox" onClick="val_checkbox()" disabled=true>
    <input name="DLP01_checkbox" type="checkbox" id="DLP01_checkbox" value="checkbox" onClick="val_checkbox()" disabled=true>
    This is declared in jsp:
    <%
    //to be used with javascript function prepare_elements() for checking to enable/disable checkbox , to check age base and limit of insured
    String[][] riderCheckArray = {
    {allPlans.PLAN_HER_MY_FUTURE, allRiders.RIDER_ACCIDENTAL_DEATH_BENEFIT, "20", "60"},

  • How to get javascript variable in jsp variable

    Hi all,
    i have a variable str in my javascript function
    var str = somevaluei want this str value in jsp variable in the same page...
    how can this be done..???
    any ideas...
    Thanks

    I dont know if its possible or not.
    Actually it depends on what do you want to do with the variable.
    as far as assisginng value to the hidden variable is concerned it can be done this way.
    <% jsp code
    String hiddenVar = "";
    %>
    < html code
    <input type type = "hidden" name="hidden" vale="<%=hiddenVar %>"
    html ends>
    while in js function you can assign vale to the hidden variable which will ultimately assign value to the JSP variable as follows.
    var str = "value";
    document.form_name.hidden_field_name.value = str.
    hope this hepls.
