Accessing variable from another JSP

Friends,
say, I have a Test1.jsp which has a variable "input". Is it possible to access this variable from other jsp "Test2.jsp"?
any ideas?
Thanks
Hari V

hi hari,
there are essentially 3 ways of doing it....
1).Usage of Hidden Values
2).Using Cookies
3).Storing attribute value within the scope of request/session/appln
The choice is all urs....???

  • Accessing variable from another class

    Say I want to access String ABC from class XYZ from my main class. I have already created the object for the class I just don't know the syntax for accessing the variable.
    This is just an example. I figured this is just a problem of finding the right syntax so I didn't bother creating a compiling code.
    public class test{
    public static void main(String[]args){
         XYZ xyz = new XYZ ();
         String a = abc.XYZ(); // this is where i want to directly access the variable abc. i know this isn't correct and it's what im trying to find out how to do.
    public class XYZ{
         String abc = "hi";
    }Edited by: aznprdgy on Nov 3, 2009 2:13 PM

    No, that isn't possible.
    abc is said to be a local variable. And it's only useable within method().
    It's part of the job of the class Xyz to control the access to its state. As an example:
    public class Test {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Xyz xyz = new Xyz()
            String a = xyz.getSpecialValue();
    public class Xyz {
        private String a;
        public String getSpecialValue() {
            return a;
        public void method() {
            a = "hi";
    }Note that a won't be reference to the string "hi" until after method() has been called.

  • Importing variables from another page in jsp

    Hey.
    I want to make two pages. I want the first page to include the variables from another page or POJO.
    I did this but i cant use the variables in index.jsp without initializing them first. But when I initialize them i get an error when trying to initialize them two times.
    if i use the variable in index without saving i get an error in eclipse.. but it works if i save and deploy.
    Is there any way to make eclipse see that i have imported the variable?
    The pages look something like this:
    index.jsp
    <%@ include file="extra.jsp" %>
    Print the number from the extra page
    <%= number %>extra.jsp
    int number = 32;I plan using this in a much greater system so I would appreciate any help.

    I'm having the same problem.
    Would be nice if somebody could help us.

    By default, 1st JSP is not fwded to 2nd JSP.
    This is very very urgent...Please help.....

    When you push the submit button on jsp1 - it goes to jsp2?

  • Passing variables from one jsp to another

    Hi All,
    I've searched thru the forum and can't find an answer to a prob I'm having, trying to pass a variable from one jsp to another.
    in file searchBar.jsp i have
    <%
    String archiveSearch = "off";

    and

    Help

    Looks good to me as well.
    Couple of suggestions
    1 - view source on searchbar.jsp - see what the generated source code for that link is
    2 - Look at the url used to generate webSideBar.jsp. If its not in the address bar, right click the webSideBar page and choose properties.
    Check to see what parameter was passed.
    Are these pages in a frameset? Do you have to specify a target frame for your link?

  • How to get result from another JSP file?

    I have to write a jsp (my.jsp) to get information from another jsp file (other.jsp).
    The other.jsp return integer value (0 / 1) so that user can tell if certain service is available or not. And in my.jsp I need to collect such result and other information from a text file to make up of a XML string.
    How can I call other.jsp to get the result? Thanks a lot.

    Hi, I think I didn't describe the problem clearly
    enough. In fact, there is a JSP file, and if our
    database is currently connected, the JSP will return
    value 1, otherwise, it will return 0. My java program
    need to get that result, and then form an XML string,
    and send the string back to the client. I'm just
    wonder how can I write such a program to read result
    from JSP file. Thanks a lot.Why is this function implemented as a JSP file? It should be implemented as a bean. It would be simple to get the information you require from that bean.

    I'm having trouble downloading a previously purchase song to my iCloud so I can access it from another device.  The iCloud download button is not there.  Help?

    I agree. I don't rely on iCloud as a backup, that is what I have my portable hard drive for. Its 500 GB so I can hold my entire iTunes library several times over on it. I have all my movies on my hard drive, but somehow "The Mist" got deleted off of my hard drive, so I figured "Well, the option to redownload an already purchased movie is available through iCloud, I'll just do that!"
    And permissions and download availability have nothing to do with it, the movie's still there, it still allows me to redownload it. The only problem is when I click download, I get that message.
    And nobody else uses my computer, but I do have multiple accounts authorized on it. Even still though, I am attepmpting to download it through the account I purchased it under. :/

  • Bex exit Variable from another one.

    Hi Expert,
    Do you Know how to define a value for a variable from another that is navigable in the bex query. In other words, when i change a value during the OLAP navigation in the query, another variable must change on the basis of the first one. The first variable isn't a "variable selected from user" on the start of the query but is a "mandatory" with a default value. When the default is changed on the OLAP,  another variable must change.
    How can I do?
    Thanks.

    OK. I see - just to be sure: You dont want to call the variable screen, when making the change, right? That is how I understand it, if I am wrong, you can use an exit variable for ZC_FASCIA and fill it depending on what was set in 0calmonth variable.
    So, assuming you dont want to call the variable screen, have you tried setting the dependent variable to changeable during query navigation? I dont think it works, but anyway, try it out...
    One way of "solving" your requirement of "set value for Y when X is changed by user" could be to use a compounded characteristic where you compound ZC_FASCIA with 0calmonth. I think you should be able to compound ZC_FASCIA = 1 with 0calmonth = <blank>...
    Next, create a variable for this new char. Using a default should be possible and it would have to be changeable during query navigation and let users change the default month without calling the variable screen.
    I dont know if this works/helps...
    Regards
    Jacob
    P.S: Your requirement only seems to come from the "need" to have 0calmonth = #. If you did not need the #, you would always have 2 for ZC_FISCIA... so I was wondering why you need the blank month? Something with an annual value stored in # month??

  • How can I invoke a JSP using a URL instance from another JSP?

              Hi all.
              I've been developed a J2EE application using Oracle 9iAS.
              Now I'm migrating to WL Server and I have the following problem.
              I was using the following code to read a URL contents from another JSP:
              URL url = config.getServletContext().getResource("/path/to/url/of/textfile.xsl");
              This was working fine in a expanded directory project structure (typical during
              development time) and Oracle 9iAS.
              When I execute this code from my WL packed .ear file I get a URL not found exception.
              Which is the right way to get a resource available from the same context root?
              Thanks in advance for your answers (and sorry for my bad english ;-))

    The previous owner of that machine should have wiped it and install the original OS that shipped with the system leaving the system at the point where the new owner takes over and enters all there own information.
    Before you go much further with this machine you should seriously consider backing up any new stuff you have done and wiping it and starting from scratch. If you keep the system like it is you  will be plagued with problems. Even doing OS updates will prove frustrating.
    Right now the best you can do is to move the Aperture that is on the system into the trash, log into the App Store using your ID and buying Aperture. That should work but to be honest I have never had to do it so can;t say for sure.
    You might want to look at this What to do before selling or giving away your Mac from Apple to read what they recommend.

    ......How are you declaring the class in your JSP? ... are you instantiating it as a bean using the useBean tag, or just instantiating it in your code like normal.
    Maybe you could post the relevant JSP code too?
    Hello again,
    Only the last string is populating after the file has be tokenized. What I'll like to accomplish is passing the very first string in the file. I did not get too far in the JSP file setup because the code is still in it's testing stage, but any help will be highly appreciated.
    Here is the JSP code

  • Accessing another variable from another application

    I was wonder how I can access another variable form another application?
    For example: I want to access :P4_EMPLOYEE_NAME from app ID 104 when I am doing is from an activity in page 2 on app ID 142.
    I had a search before, but I am looking for an unambiguous response.

    Greg - About all you can do is call the function htmldb_util.fetch_app_item(p_item => 'F104_ITEM', p_app => '104'). The application you call this function in must be sharing a session with the application from which you are fetching the item, both applications must belong to the same workspace, and the item you name in the argument must be defined as an application-level item in the fetched-from application.

  • Accessing a variable from another script

    Is it possible to create a global variable in VB in the Job VBA code and to access it from VB in the scripts contained in that job? I want to dynamically create a value (a random email address) for use in one script where it is used for registration and then use it again in a second script for login.

    I had a similar requirement and used a slightly different approach to solve it.
    I had to produce some random char strings that would be client IDs to create test client records in my web app. I needed to reference these random client IDs in both a create script and a modify script.
    I found that (and I guess this can come down to personal preference) it was easy to create a "utility function" that writes a file with however many random strings you want in csv format. If your target scripts don't have databanks, just play this sub in the VBA editor, and then throw the output file into the databank folder and databank the field of interest. For subsequent runs, just play the sub in the VBA editor for fresh data. Worst case, you have an existing databank, and you just need to paste this file into it in excel as a new column. Not a big deal. Here's an example of a function I have that I changed such that it would create a list of random email addresses to a csv file everytime you run the sub in VBA. Just drop this in your VBA workspace sharedmodule:
    Private Sub CreateMemberEmailFile()
    Dim intA As Integer
    Dim sngA As Single
    Dim strA As String
    'Dim x As Integer
    Dim str As String
    Dim answer As Boolean
    Dim fs As Scripting.FileSystemObject
    Dim myfile As Scripting.TextStream
    Set fs = New Scripting.FileSystemObject 'Create a new file system object
    ' put the file anywhere you want, doesnt matter
    Set myfile = fs.OpenTextFile("c:\memberemailid.csv", ForWriting)
    myfile.WriteLine "MemberEmailID"
    ' ok, this creates 50 random emails...feel free to change 50 to whatever you desire
    For y = 1 To 50
    str = ""
    For x = 0 To 9
    'sngA = Rnd
    'Select Case (CInt(sngA * 200) Mod 3)
    ' Case 0
    ' intA = CInt(sngA * 48) + CInt(sngA * 10)
    ' intA = 48 + (intA Mod 10)
    'Case 1
    ' intA = CInt(sngA * 65) + CInt(sngA * 26)
    ' intA = 65 + (intA Mod 26)
    'Case 2
    ' intA = CInt(sngA * 97) + CInt(sngA * 26)
    ' intA = 97 + (intA Mod 26)
    'End Select
    'make intA a random number from 0-9
    intA = RandNum(0, 9)
    strA = CStr(intA)
    str = str & strA
    Next x
    str = str & "@test.com"
    myfile.WriteLine str 'write the message to identify a different line

    myfile.Close 'Close the file

    I am wanting to pass it to the HAC_Help_Text_Need_it_Earlier.jsp page
    Right now on the HAC_Help_Text_Need_it_Earlier.jsp page I have the following code:
    String shopCartReqDate1 = IBEUtil.nonNull(request.getParameter("shopCartReqDate1"));
    String shopCartExpDate1 = IBEUtil.nonNull(request.getParameter("shopCartExpDate1"));
    Do I need to create a function and do a document.getElementById?
    Thanks for the help!

    As far as I understand your question You don't have to use document.getElementById. Just submit the form and then on the next page You'll just pull the variables out from the request object.

  • Trying to pass Hidden/Session variables from 1 JSP to 3rd JSP

    Hellol JSP Gurus !!
    This is a question on how a hidden or a value of a session variable can be passed from 1 JSP to a 3rd JSP, with the 2nd JSP as a Processing page.
    For eg., here's the scenario
    I have a Login page which has the hidden variables. Once the user enters the Login information, the info is validated in a LoginP.jsp (say, its a Processing page for the Login user/passwd info), which does a sendRedirect to a 3rd (Final) JSP which displays the values of the hidden/session variables of the 1st JSP.
    In my case, for some reason, I am not able to see the value for the hidden or the session variables in the 3rd JSP - they are null values.
    I am attaching some Duke dollars to who ever gives me the right solution.
    Thanks a lot in advance

    Use strings to set attributes;You can store any serializable object in the session. I doubt this will actually change anything.
    Anything wrong with the above code ?Not that I can see ... A number of other things can explain why you're getting null values out of the session. For example :
    - You are not using the implicit session obj in the 3rd jsp, but creating a new one and thus overwriting the one created previously
    - the session timeout value is unusually low, and by the time you're getting to the 3rd jsp, the session is invalidated and you're getting nulls. Verify your server config, or call session.getMaxInactiveInterval() to check the value. Check also if the session is new ( session.isNew() )
    Somebody already pointed this out : If the client does not support cookies and URL rewriting is not enabled, no session ID is returned to the server on a request, which the server then perceives as a new session.
    - Another (remote?) possibility : your 3rd jsp belongs to another webapp (i.e you're redirecting to another app context).
    If nothing of the above applies, post the jsp code and we'll try to help.

  • How can I link to a jsp page from another jsp page within websphere portal?

    Afternoon all,
    I have a websphere portlet which displays a jsp page. I want to put a hyperlink on the jsp page which when clicked will open another jsp page.
    Does anyone know how to do this?
    Thanks,
    Alex

    The anchor tag is the correct one for generating clickable links.
    <jsp:forward> is for transferring control at the server end. Its when you decide to change which page you want to show the user. ie check user is logged in. If not then forward them to login page, else display current page.
    I tried that. It does open the jsp page
    but the place and page links in the portal theme get screwed up.Whats mucked up about them? Do they point where they shouldn't?
    You might try using a <base> tag to set where relative links are resolved from.
