Accordian User Trouble

Hi there
I'm having trouble setting the default accordion panel to
open using the code:

For some reason the accordion starts with all panel closed -
if I remove the above constructor, which I have placed after the
html divs for the accordian, then the panel operates perfectly but
with the default default panel open.
I tested opening panels using a button with:
<input type="button" onclick="acc10.openPanel(2)" >open
panel</input>
as in the adobe docs but this doesnt work for me either.
I am using version 1.5 and my document header is:

Any ideas where I should start looking?

How many panels does your accordion have? I ask because the
panel index you pass into defaultPanel should be zero based ... so
in your example you are asking for it to open the 3rd panel by
default.

New DW8 User - Trouble Editing Frontpage Site

Hi Everyone,
I manage a website that was originally designed in frontpage,
with PHP code intermingled within the code.
When editing this in Frontpage, I have no problems seeing the
code/design view. Of course, areas with dynamic PHP content are not
visible, but i can see the other layout elements of the page render
OK.
i just bought DW8, installed, works great on my website,
except for one thing, the DESIGN view is next to useless. It
renders a bit of the page, then stops 1/10 th of the way down. What
is visible, cannot even be navigated though, it is just a mangled
mess.
Could anyone shed insight on this for me? thanks in
advance.

Are you using FP includes?
To protect its users from the reality of HTML, FP uses
non-standard include
files, meaning that the files being included are complete,
stand-alone HTML
pages. When the parent file is published, FP's bots strip out
the
unnecessary <html>, <head>, and <body>
tags. It's likely that DW is being
driven over the edge by such proprietary markup....

Os 10.4.6/logic 7.2 pro user - trouble installing Waves plugins

on trying to install waves plugins i fall at the first hurdle - actually installing the files to the machine!

I had problem with certain waves plugins when upgading from 10.4.5 to 10.4.6, although not the same as you described.
Anyway there is a thread over at the waves forum which advises against doing the update path i had chosen from the software update. I dont know if this is what you done?
You need to reinstall the combo update 10.4.0 to 10.4.6 over the existing one.

New Apple User - Trouble with External Hard Drive

I am not very good with computers so hopefully this is a simple task. I just purchased my first mac, a MacBook for college. I bought a Seagate FreeAgent 160 GB drive with the intent of using it for time machine back ups and also for storing my music. I am wondering how or if this is possible.
So far I have:
- Transferred all my music from my PC to the hard drive no problem.
- I tried to set up Time Machine it said I had to delete everything from the Seagate drive in order to use it.
- I then copied all my files off of the hard drive to my Macbook's HD.
- Found out I also need to reformat my Seagate drive to Mac format.
Now I am wondering how to go about all of this and find out if its possible to store my music files on my hard drive as well as use it to for TM. I was thinking I can just move all my music back to the Seagate after TM erases it...would that work or is TM back-ups the only thing you can have on a drive?

Generally speaking, you'll need an external hard drive with a capacity that is at least twice the size of the space being used on your internal hard drive. So, if you only have around 30 GBs of data on your new Macbook, you'll need at least 60 GBs for Time Machine. I'm going to state, though, that you'll probably end up using something more like 50 GBs on your Macbook's hard drive, so plan on using around 100 GBs for Time Machine.
Now, what you'll need to do first is format the external drive using Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility). In Disk Utility's "source list" at the left side of the window, select your external drive (not the named "volume" that will appear indented below it), then switch to the "Erase" tab. Erasing the entire hard drive will re-write the partition map, using the Apple "GUID" partition scheme (required for use with Time Machine).
If you want to store additional files on the external, that's OK. However, it is recommended that instead of storing both your Time Machine backup and your "personal" files on the same volume, that you partition the drive with 2 partitions. This will allow you to store the Time Machine backup in isolation on its own volume, and your "personal" files on the second. Disk Utility will handle this, too. Instead of erasing, switch to the "Partition" tab, use the pull-down menu to select 2 partitions, adjust the sizes according to your needs, then click "Partition."
I recommend that you size the first partition (for use with Time Machine) at 100 GBs, and the second with the remainder (which will end up being about 40 GBs).
You can certainly store that 10 GBs of music separately, but wouldn't it be best to import it into iTunes? If you do import it, or if it is kept on your Macbook in some other place, it will be backed up by Time Machine.

I am working on an ipad2 and when I try to add photos to iMovie the program closes automatically. I redownloaded iMovie but it keeps happening. Any advise?

E90 new user - trouble connecting to overseas netw...

My E90 has Vodafone phone and Internet service in the UK and I am currently in the US for an extended period of time. I received instructions from Vodafone to connect to AT&T in the US but I have not been able to access the network. I have tried changing around the various Network settings on the E90, and between manual and automatic. I always get offered two local networks (AT&T and T-Mobile), but when it searches for either network I receive a "No Access" message. My cheap phone with local AT&T service has no problem, so it's not my location. I'm obvioulsy missing something on the E90, so I hope that someone can guide me in the right direction.

You cannot self-assign an IP address. Both the router and the computer should be configured to use DHCP. On the computer open Network preferences, select the Airport port and click on the Configure button. Then click on the TCP/IP tab and set the Configure IPv4 drop down menu for DHCP and click on the Apply button.
Configure your router for DHCP as well unless the router is currently set for its default. Then shut down the modem, router, and computer. Wait at least one minute. Then first turn on the modem and wait until it indicates communication with your cable/DSL provider. Next turn on the router and wait until it indicates communication with the modem. Last turn on the computer.

Mac User: Trouble opening PDFs that appear through google searches.

I can open pdfs that I converted from Word documents that I created, but can't open pdfs that appear through google searches. Please advise/help. Thank you.

Sidebar missing from iCal in Lion - seeking a third party product to restore lost functionality

Apple has removed the sidebar, the always-on list of calendars that required no click.
The shallow popover that appears only when clicked — obscuring part of the calendar before disappearing — is to me (and some others) an unacceptable substitute for working with multiple calendars, especially where calendars are grouped across multiple servers.
I'm aware of third party alternatives to iCal. (Most full-featured calendar interfaces do have an always-on full-height list of calendars. Probably the best known alternative to iCal is BusyCal.)
This topic does not seek alternatives; I do wish to continue using iCal, albeit in a way that is less frustrating than what Apple forces upon users of 10.7.
This topic seeks:
a third party product that will restore lost functionality to iCal.
To any developer who reads this topic: please, I beg you, on my knees, submit your iCal sidebar app — or whatever you wish to call it — to the App Store as soon as you can. I'll gladly pay, and more than gladly help to test any pre-Store development version.
Other readers please note: whilst I'm extraordinarily frustrated by Apple's design decision, this is not an invitation to rant. Let's gain something constructive from this discussion.
If you wish Apple to restore the sidebar to iCal, as an option, then please:
submit iCal feedback to Apple, with your use case; explain why for you personally the limited disappearing popover is a poor substitute; explain how the sidebar will improve both (a) your productivity and (b) your appreciation of Apple's software.
Side note: no category includes iCal, so I file this opening post under Using Mac OS X v10.7 Lion.

I would like to say, "give it time — the more you use it, the more it will be appreciated" but for me this is not true. For some weeks I tried to work with this build of iCal and the more I used it, the greater the frustration. I grew to avoid iCal.
In most ways the feature set of iCal is unequalled. Support for many standards is excellent. The removal of the sidebar is a blight on this brilliance.
I plead with Apple or a third party developer to fix this at the earliest opportunity. I want Apple iCal — but user-friendly, not crippled.

Seagate Backup Plus Suddenly Read Only After Working Fine

So I bit on a good deal on a Seagate external drive for backup. I set it up to run with Time Machine and it worked fine for months. Then, suddenly, Time Machine could no longer write to the drive. I can still read and recover old backups but I cannot write to the drive or change my rights. I have updated the firmware on the drive. No help. Disk repair fails and my Mac tells me to format the drive and start over.
However, I don't consider that a solution.
Any other thoughts? I see a lot of other issues out there including for NTFS formatting but I am using Mac formatting.

More often it isn't the drive as much as the drive enclosures.
The combination of USB2 and TimeMachine also have contributed with problems. Also more common when using 'green' drives that have their own parking, going to sleep, reducing power and putting drive into standby and then taking longer to be online. Last item that caused users trouble were the bus-powered, like WD Passport drives that do not have their own power supply and depend on USB bus (USB3 is better).
Even WD drive cases have had trouble and problems, but not the actual drive. The corruption is in large part due to how and what happens with Mac HFS+ when a drive is not properly "safely" ejected.
I would be careful with name brand enclosures. Some WD enclosures built the case into and around the drive, the drives are not removable... at all.
You might want to source a drive case on Amazon or elsewhere or OWC www.macsales.com which do allow swapping out drives.

Lumia 720 screen cracked

Dear Nokia Support team,
couple of questions on Nokia Lumia 720
- does the screen crack after falling from 3 ft given it is made out of gorilla glass?
- can this be covered in the warranty? my device is just about 8 months old, and performing quite well, but this screen crack has not been a pleasant user experience

Hi, this is mainly a user to user trouble shooting forum, but employees might drop by - however there's no guarantee.
However, I can answer this for you. Gorilla glass are not crack/shatter proof. Gorilla glass are tougher against scratches, but not even scratch proof.
So with the right speed, right angle and right surface it will break when dropped.
Cracking your screen from dropping it will not be covered by warranty unfortunately. You will have to pay for a repair/screen replacement.

N8 not showing the name of the contact calling

Hi All,
I have seen a strange issue with N8. I have never experienced this with any other Nokia phones that I have been using. Not sure if others have noticed it. Here is what I have experienced:
At times, I have seen that when I receive a call from the person who is already added in my contact list, the phone is just displaying the number and not the name of the person. When I check the Log, it also displays the number and not the name of the person.
Just so that someone might have a question, I have imported my contact list from my previous handset (Nokia N70) where it worked absolutely fine.
If someone has experienced the same kind of issue, could you please explain me and help me resolve it. It is quite inconvenient to identify the caller without the name and decide whether to accept or reject during work hours and have at times missed some important calls due to that.

Just so you know, guys, you're not the only ones with this issue. It suddenly popped up a week or so ago when I ran the PR 1.2 update OTA. And as to the comment about duplicate contacts, my phone used to show the name that was alphabetically first amongst the duplicates sharing the same number.
Nokia, you've made one the best devices thus far in the N8, and I feel like I can say that because I've used Nokia devices since the 3310, and am a diehard fan in every respect. But the issues I've had on the N8 are totally unbelievable. I still use a 7610 and I find it more reliable than the N8. Also, it's surprising to see how caustic your support team replies are to genuine problems your users are having with their phones, which are UNDOUBTEDLY a result of improperly thought out firmware upgrades and plain lack of user-friendliness. Nokia seems very happy to place the blame on the user, that is, provided they reply in the first place. And as to the solution above, the one that the operator at Nokia support recommended, is just plain idiotic. What exactly is the point of OTA upgrades if one has to perform it by cable anyways? And resetting the phone? Do I have to do it everytime I install something on my phone? Is that the solution to every problem on this great device? I mean, come ON Nokia. I gave up an iPhone 4 for this. Please try not to make me, and millions of others who have done the same thing regret our decision. We're not asking you to perform rocket science on clay tableta or a feat of some improbable technological wonder. We're asking you for things that are ALREADY there for AGES on other phones, and a little bit of consideration that I feel we've all earned. I honestly didnt mean for this to turn into a rant, but this is truly the first time ever that I've had such a troublesome device from Nokia, and witnessed such scathing indifference to user troubles, despite being squarely at fault with respect to buggy and incomplete firmware.

Plug-in(s) for Id program

I cannot successfully download and install the Id program? Which plug-in(s) do I need to download to achieve this?

I hope you don't really mean .imm for the extension -- that's and incredimail email file and won't open in ID. Files you can open in ID include .indd, .indt, .indb, .idml, .inx and .indl (not all of which represent documents).
I think, though, that your problem may be the Windows 7 Starter, though I don't honestly know why that would prevent the download. I'm pretty sure though, that even if you are able to get the download to complete you won't get the program to install on the Starter version.
If all you need is InDesign, or one or two of the other programs, and you don't intend to make a purchase, you should probably try downloading the individual trials, but if that's what you are doing now you might want to try downloading a suite package instead -- you can choose which components to try to install (see my concern about Windows 7 Starter above). Since your problem is with the Adobe Dowload Manager (and it give lots of users trouble), yiou miught want to try the direct download liinks at http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cs6-direct-download-links.html. Be sure you read and follow the directions under Note: Very Important Instructions on that page. If you don't follow them exactly the download will not work.

Unreadable Files: cannot import files error message

I am trying to import old photos from a previous hard drive and get the following message-
Unreadable Files: (# of files)
The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data).
Then it will have the files and their locations that I am trying to open in the box below. These files can be opened with no problems using Adobe Photoshop Elements 3, Canon's Image Browser as well as Preview. They originally came in as digital photos from a Canon digital camera. They used to be able to open in iPhoto with no problem. They either have a [.JPG] extension or none at all. There are a lot of them. Could it be they were used by an older version of iPhoto and are unrecognizable in this one?
I am running iPhoto 4.0.3 Any suggestions?

You just reminded me of one more thing you can try. Log in to another account on your iMac and see if iPhoto will import as it should. If it does then it's a problem with your primary account. One cause might be another preference file that's in conflict with iPhoto. You can use Preferential Treatment to check for any corrupt or damaged user or system preference file. It's not foolproof however. If none are found and it sill won't import, then you can try the following method developed my another user:
Trouble Shooting Preferences
Go to HD/Users/Your_name/Library. Move the Prefs folder (in its entirety) to the desktop. Start iPhoto. Determine if problem is fixed.
If the problem IS fixed, then go to the new Prefs folder that the OS will have created and open it up. Except for those items that are obviously not related, move the contents to the old Prefs folder on the desktop, replacing what had been there. When in doubt, move the item. The worst thing that can happen is a harmless "alert" message. Then, trash what remains of the new folder. Finally, move the old (but modified) Prefs folder back to the library.
If the problem is NOT fixed, trash the new Prefs folder and move the old one back to its original location.
If stlll no go, I'd try reinstalling the 10.2.9 COMBO updater followed by a permissions repair.

Addons are not showing up by address bar, cant open ff in safemode and tabs wont open, ff got all retarded on me.

first it started with fox tab not showing up on the address bar. Now right click does not work for opening new tabs. a new tab opens in a new window over the window i was just in. can't go back.
I did notupdate anything, howcan i reset to defaults?? cant open ff in safemode, doesn't give me the option
