ACE Total Connections Failed stats

I have been monitoring connection stats on an ACE Module context (show stats connection).
During recent load testing I observer that about 1/3 of all connections were failing and some timing out.
How can I find out more details about the connections that are failing and timing out?
ie which specific connection are failing, what type of failures increment this counter, etc
Cheers,
Karl

Hi Kim,
Thanks for responding.
A load test was run earlier today. I cleared the counters and collected some stats (see below).
I also had a look at various other stats for drops.
As far as I could see all relevant, rservers, serverfarms and service-policies were:
in service BUT
drop stats were not incrementing at anywhere near the same rate as the Total Connections Failed stat.
Another load test is scheduled for tomorrow.
Any thoughts on what to check next?

  • Total Connections Failed

    Hi,
I'm currently seeing the counters for the 'Total Connections Failed' statistic increasing by a large amount.
What I can't see is why. The serverfarms we have don't see to show any drops.
Using ANM 5.1 we also see this under 'Monitor' 'Load Balancing' 'Statistics'
Can anyone help me troubleshoot the reason for this?
These commands were run about 10 seconds apart

    Hi Steve,
Total number of connection attempts that failed to establish a connection to the real server.
For Layer 4 traffic with normalization on, the count increments if the three-way handshake fails to be established for either of the following
    reasons:
. A RST comes from the client or the server after a SYN-ACK.
. The server does not reply to a SYN. The connection times out.
For Layer 4 traffic with normalization off, the count does not increment.
For L7 traffic (normalization is always on), the count increments if the three-way handshake fails to be established for either of the following
    reasons:
.   A RST comes from the server after the front-end connection is established
.   The server does not reply to a SYN. The connection times out.
There general counter references a number of things, it could be also a route lookup failure, we could see it from "show np 1 me-stats -socm":
    Drop [route lookup fail]
One of the reasons that this could increment is if the ACE receives any traffic it does not know how to route in which case it will be dropped.

  • ACE SSL Connections Failing

We have a new secure site where we are using the ACE as a ssl-proxy. I see connections make it all the way to the servers, but the session eventually times out (Browser responds with "The connection has timed out"). I haven't been able to grab a packet capture yet, but I am looking for some input since I am new to the ACE. We are also set up for sticky connections using cookies.
I see connections to the server but no response back. I also see the cookie places in my browser. Once I close the browser window, the current connection drops.

I verified the cert and keys match with the verify cryto command. If I bypass https and connect via http, I am able to hit the server test page. I attached the scrubbed config.
    Any info is appreciated.

Make sure clock on supervisor/device has correct date to avoid not before not after check of cert.
Once the configuration is complete, check to make sure the VIP address can be accessed via HTTPS in a web browser. If any certificate errors are shown, this indicates a problem with the certificate, not with the Cisco ACE configuration. The above commands can be used to verify that SSL sessions are being terminated successfully.
When a client’s web browser connects to an SSL server on any device, the browser and server negotiate which encryption cipher to use for the session. The list and order of ciphers presented by the ACE in a default configuration are as follows.
    1.          CM_SSL_RSA_WITH_RC4_128_MD5
    2.          CM_SSL_RSA_WITH_RC4_128_SHA
    3.          CM_SSL_RSA_WITH_DES_CBC_SHA
    4.          CM_SSL_RSA_WITH_3DES_EDE_CBC_SHA
    5.          CM_SSL_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA
    6.          CM_SSL_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA
    7.          CM_SSL_RSA_EXPORT_WITH_RC4_40_MD5
    8.          CM_SSL_RSA_EXPORT1024_WITH_RC4_56_MD5
    9.          CM_SSL_RSA_EXPORT_WITH_DES40_CBC_SHA
    10.          CM_SSL_RSA_EXPORT1024_WITH_DES_CBC_SHA
    11.          CM_SSL_RSA_EXPORT1024_WITH_RC4_56_SHA
If this list is not desirable or the order needs to be changed, an SSL parameter map can be configured to make such changes.
Can you send the output of the following commands to suggest more on your config

  • ACE serverfarm connection stats

    Hi Guy's,
Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on what appears to be a discrepancy in the loadbalanced stats that are produced from a show serverfarm and the stats that my server team report for each loadbalanced server.
    For example:
    ACE/context1# show serverfarm LIVE
    serverfarm     : LIVE, type: HOST
    total rservers : 4
                                                    ----------connections-----------
real                  weight state        current    total      failures
       ---+---------------------+------+------------+----------+----------+---------
       rserver:Server1
           10.10.10.1:0         8      OPERATIONAL  1077       23099      2123
       rserver: Server2
           10.10.10.2:0         8      OPERATIONAL   1099      23533      1830
But the server team report Server1 has 615 and Server2 has 563 active sessions.  I would have thought that both loadbalancer and server statistics on current and active sessions should be the same?

    Hi paul,
If you take output for sh conn rserver server1 detail
You will notice that many connection on ACE is in different state. It would not show established.
It may be in CLS-RST or CLOSE state. This happens when the connection are improperly closed.
    something like below:
    1  in  TCP   101  10.12.18.20:80       10.87.3.184:34484     CLOSED
You will also notice many idle connection waiting for timeout to happen.
This might be one of the reason for the descripancy.
Below is the different port state for your reference:
state:    The state of the connection. Non-TCP connections display "--"
    Possible TCP states are:
INIT -       Initial state of a connection.
SYNSEEN -    ACE received a SYN.
SYNACK -     ACE sent a SYNACK.
ESTAB -      3-way handshake completed and connection is established.
CLSFIN -     ACE closed the connection with a FIN.
CLSRST -     ACE closed the connection with a RST.
CLSTIMEOUT - ACE closed the connection for it timed out.
CLOSED -     Connection is half closed.
    regards,
    Ajay Kumar

  • ACE Sticky Connections, Show Conn Output and Show serverfarm

    Hi Community,
I'm deploying a Cisco ACE module and I have some questions about sticky connections and about the output of the show conn command and show serverfarm command.
    I have the follwoing configuration:
    rserver host srv_1  ip address 10.4.11.14  inservicerserver host srv_2  ip address 10.4.11.18  inserviceserverfarm host farm_144  rserver srv_1 144    weight 1    inservice  rserver srv_2 144    weight 3    inservice
    sticky ip-netmask 255.255.255.255 address source st_host144
      timeout 10080
      serverfarm farm_144
    class-map match-all vip_144
      2 match virtual-address 10.4.11.208 tcp eq 143
    policy-map type loadbalance first-match lb_144
      class class-default
    policy-map multi-match policy_vip_webcache
      class vip_webcache_144
        loadbalance vip inservice
        loadbalance policy lb_144
        loadbalance vip icmp-reply active
        nat dynamic 411 vlan 411
We can assume that service policy was applied at the interface vlan. So, let's go to the questions:
1- If sticky is enabled the output command "show conn" should show just one entry by ip address?
    The real output is:
    DC01-ACE-01-PRIMARY-SW1/context_servidores# show conn | inc :143333046     1  in  TCP   411  10.2.158.87:3616      10.4.11.208:143       ESTAB 286390     3  in  TCP   411  10.2.158.87:3562      10.4.11.208:143       ESTAB310233     1  in  TCP   411  10.1.5.87:3424        10.4.11.208:143       ESTAB
Look that the ip address 10.2.158.87 is shown 2 times. In same times, the same ip address is shown 4 times to the same VIP and the same port. Is it a normal behavior?
2- According to the configuration, the srv_2 has weight 3 and srv_1 has weigth 1, but the output of show serverfarm show somethin strange:
    DC01-ACE-01-PRIMARY-SW1/context_servidores# show serverfarm farm_144 serverfarm     : farm_144, type: HOST total rservers : 2 state          : ACTIVE DWS state      : DISABLED ---------------------------------                                                ----------connections-----------       real                  weight state        current    total      failures    ---+---------------------+------+------------+----------+----------+---------   rserver: srv_1       10.4.11.14:144        1   OPERATIONAL     11         386        0   rserver: srv_2       10.4.11.18:144        3   OPERATIONAL     35         66         0
We can see that the weight is working good, but the total of connections is higher at srv_1 than srv_2. Why?
Somebody can help me to understand better this problem of if its a normal behavior?
    Thanks in advance!!

    Hi Gaurav,
About question 1, I got some informations too. It's perfectly normal the client open 2 or more connections at the same time. The client's application is the responsable. We removed the ACE and put the client directly to the server and the result of the total connections opened was the same.
About question 2, I made some "clears" on the serverfarm, the sticky database and after that, the numbers were more real.
    DC01-ACE-02-SECONDARY-SW1/context_servidores# sh serverfarm farm_webcache_144
    serverfarm     : farm_webcache_144, type: HOST
    total rservers : 2
    state          : ACTIVE
    DWS state      : DISABLED
                                                    ----------connections-----------
real                  weight state        current    total      failures
       ---+---------------------+------+------------+----------+----------+---------
       rserver: srv_webcache_1
           10.4.11.14:144        1   OPERATIONAL     1025       15499      4436
       rserver: srv_webcache_2
           10.4.11.18:144        2   OPERATIONAL     1794       33471      471
    DC01-ACE-02-SECONDARY-SW1/context_servidores#
Anyway thank you very much for your feedback.

  • Definition Updates: Connection Failed

    Hi,
I currently have SCCM 2012 R2 and I've created ADR's for the definition updates.  In the settings I've set 'Updates distributed from Configuration Manager' as the only source.
Windows 2008 R2 / Windows 2012 and Windows 8.1 clients all seem happy. However the Windows 7 (x64) clients do not update. I just get an error message saying 'Connection failed'.
Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this please as it's driving me up the wall.  The polices are just copied off each other and the ADR is a template (I've checked them side by side and they're both nigh on the same).
    TIA.

    Hi,
Thanks for the info.  I've just checked that key and it is indeed blank.  I've put the log files below.  If there is a bold that means the line was either red or yellow in the Trace tool.

  • I can't login to the App Store - connection failed...

yesterday I had totally forgot my password and security question & went through 'Apple Express Lane' in getting assistance to reset my password for my ID "[email protected]" account so I can update to Lion OSX & merge my MobileMe account to iCloud through the 'App Store'
the password was reset and was able to login to the App Store with new password and download OSX Lion.
I have now successfully installed OSX Lion and have completed all the updates up to OSX Lion 10.7.3
after the updates, I wanted to purchase some games through the App Store and tried to login, but I get a message in red
    'Connection Failed'
I tried to find answers and post a topic in 'Apple Discussions Forum' using Safari 5.1.3, but it won't let me sign-in on my ID '[email protected]' and my password.I get the following message :
'This Apple ID has been locked for security reasons. Visit iForgot to reset your account (https://iforgot.apple.com). Forgot your Apple ID?'
But I just reset it with the Express guy??
The other thing is I keep getting 'security certificates' popping up as well every time I attempt to login into 'Apple Discussions' or click to another webpage for a different site. Even when I click on legitimate(I hope) certificate to always trust, I find I have to repeat the step again
even with iTunes when I go to sign in I get the following:
iTunes can't verify the identity of the server "buy.itunes.apple.com"
The certificate for this server is invalid. You might be connecting to a server that is pretending to be "buy.itunes.apple.com" , which could put your confidential information at risk. Would like to connect to the server anyway?
so... wishing I didn't upgrade now
I had gone back to the apple support by email and they said I needed to reset my password again.
which have done and still no change. Twice now over the last two days in changing password.
When I use 'Firefox 10.0.2' I can login to iCloud & Apple Support Community & and don't get the pop up verify security cert's
I hope I have given 'enough' details, any help would greatly appreciated
    My Hardware specs:
    iMac 7,1
    2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB Memory
    Thanks
    Dave

I am having the same problem. It was working fine until yesterday.

  • The video player is in the connection error state.

Flash cS 5.5 / Win 7. Inserting video into movieclip both with 'import video' wizard and via component. FLV that plays fine on a number of different servers. On opening (after gathering metadata) the message 'The video player is in the connection error state. It enters this state when a video stream attempted to load but was unsuccessful. There are two possible reasons for the error: no connection to the server or the stream was not found.' Firstly I am treating this as a progressive download, not streaming. Second this plays fine locally, it's only when I upload to a server it fails. The FLV is in a folder directly below the SWF. Result is same with FLV in same location as SWF. MIME type set to vide/x-flv although I've also set it to applicaiton/octet-stream.
This is a very basic requirement to call the video directly from Flash, the default parameters of the component are adequate and work locally. However the video does not play. Is it fair to assume this functionality simply does not work correctly within Flash CS5.5? I'm unclear as to what >less< I could be doing with this file.

You can place the Flash and any Flash assets in any folder location that you want.... provided that you understand how Flash assets (like .flv files) are "Pathed" or located by the .swf that is calling them. The underlying principle is that the Flash assets need to be pathed relative to the Web page that the .swf is located on, NOT the actual, physical location of the .swf.
    For review:
    Pathing issues
Almost always when it works on the local machine and not the server, it's a pathing problem.
You can put your Flash related files in whatever folders you want, they do NOT have to be in the root, they do NOT all have to be in the same folder. But if you have a problem and if sticking them all in the root folder works, then you know that the issue was a pathing problem.
Just remember that paths used in the .swf become relative to the Web page on which the .swf is placed, NOT it’s physical location.  So for example, if your .swf is in the flash/data folder and you use that .swf on a Web page in the root folder, you are in effect, removing that .swf from flash/data and putting it in root. So if the .swf is loading any related files (xml, images, video, etc), the path used inside the .swf to load the .xml file has to be relative to it's new location in root and then back down into flash/data. This is true even though when testing the .swf by itself, it can be inside flash/data and work just fine, since relative to it's location, the path is just fine, they are in the same folder. But if that same path is used when the .swf is placed on a page two folder levels up, the relative path has changed, the old "same folder" path will not work.
In fact if you are placing the .swf on a web page in a different folder than the .swf is stored in, and that .swf calls external assets, then direct clicking and opening of the .swf in it’s folder should NOT work! That’s because the paths to the external assets should be relative to the Web page and not the physical location of the .swf.
So just be sure that you use addresses relative to the final Web page locations (not physical file locations) and you can put the Flash related files in what ever folders you want.
    Best wishes,
    Eye for Video
    www.cidigitalmedia.com
So you can place the .flv wherever you want, but you can't just go and move the .flv without also correcting the path to the .flv inside the .swf.
So be sure that you have the .flv in the correct subfolder before you do any insert of the Flash player.
Also I'm not a great fan of requiring my viewers use the latest and greatest (and most bug filled version) of any pluggin or software for that matter.
    <param name="swfversion" value="11.0.0.0" />
I refer NOT to upgrade to ver 11 so will not be seeing your Flash anytime soon. If you want to appeal to a large audience, change that to version 10.
    Best wishes,
    Adninjastrator

  • Connection failed is a failed error message

In iPhoto, as well as in other software that uses the iPhoto library (e.g. setting a Desptop photo), I get the error message "Connection failed - The server "xxx" may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again." There is just one button: OK. Clicking OK causes the dialog to go away – for all of 1.5 seconds! Since it stays ontop of all other windows it effectively renders the computer unusable.
My guess is that I have imported some photo from that server once upon a time, after upgrading to OS 10.6, and that the iPhoto library routines keep looking for that server any time the database is opened. There is no way to tell it not to. There is no way to find out which photo is the culprit. There is no way to avaid making the mistake in the first place, since I didn't get a warning to move the photo to my harddisk first (if that is what the problem consists of, as I suspect).
In other words, this is a poorly designed software, and it needs to be FIXED A.S.A.P. It's aboslutely damaging for Apple every day this bug remains in the OS. Just fix it and fix it now.
The fix must (1) include dialog that explains to user what will happen during import and the consequences of user's choice, (2) include possibility to IGNORE future connection failed in the present session, (3) include way to search for files on remote servers and (4) option to remove and fix the database so it becomes coherent.

So, if a server isn't available anymore, by your words "You've corrupted the library"...?!
I "imported" several photos from a NAS-drive, and now iPhoto (in combination with iMovie) complains with the "Connection failed" once for every file that references that NAS-drive, which isn't available.
So how can I see which files aren't really "imported" but just "referenced", so that I can delete them? (I.e. alternative 3 and 4 of UE:s suggested fixes.)
PS. I totally agree with UE on his other suggested fixes as well.

I have an Windows XP OS with SP3.
I have installed the Oracle 11g server.
On trying to connect to the ODBC connection, i get the following error message:
Unable to connect SQL State=S1000 [Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-12170: TNS: Connect timeout occured
    On trying the tnsping,

On trying to connect with SQL Developer, i get the following error:
Status: Failure - Test failed: Io Exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection
However i am able to connect to the same using SQL Plus
Another issue that occurs is that the Oracle Enterprise Manager shows the following error after a while:

Details ORA-12505: TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach)
The following services are all up during this point of time:

Any help in this regard will be very useful as this is hindering the progress of my work.
Thanks in advance for the help.

    Hi,
I did try and delete my listener.ora and then create a new one..
That did not solve my issue..
What are the steps for configuring the listener again.
    Thanks for the response..
    - Gautamno listener.ora file is required.
    just do as below
    lsnrctl start

Hi gurues, I'm facing this issue with an IDES on MaxDB with Windows.
System was up and running until someone tries to make an upgrade of the kernel. Since then we can not start our system. we tried to rollback kernel release to the previous one but it didn't work.
When we start our system from MMC console we can see all process in green but work processes are in RUN state and after a few minutes they goes down with the following error
