ACR 4.3.1 and Olympus E-3: colors different

I am comparing the colors as output by ACR 4.3.1 (as used in LightRoom) and Olympus Studio 2 (the Olympus tool). The colors obtained by processing a RAW file in the two tools are noticeably different. Sometimes, LightRoom seems to produce more realistic colors; other times, the Olympus Studio colors are better. In particular, LightRoom colors are often too yellow-ish, while Olympus Studio colors have more intense (and occasionally exaggerated) reds.
Has Adobe performed calibration of ACR 4.3.1 for the Olympus E-3? With what target, maximum fidelity in color reproduction? Are there settings one can use in LR (and ACR 4.3.1) to obtain colors similar to the Olympus? I tried adjusting the settings in the Camera Calibration section, but with my limited technique I was not able to obtain a good match.
Any help would be appreciated.
All the best,
Luca

That is to be expected. ACR uses a different methodology from other converters to produce its profiles.
This is the process if you are interested: http://inside-lightroom.com/profiling.php
For Calibration you might want to look at the Fors Script http://fors.net/chromoholics/index.php or the Rags Script http://www.rags-int-inc.com/PhotoTechStuff/AcrCalibration/ and also the original article by Bruce Fraser.
For colour profiles you might like to try Huelight as well http://www.huelight.com

  • Lightroom 5 camera profiles and Olympus EP 5

hI I'm fairly new to LR and trying to get different camera options besides ADOBE STANDARD in the camera calibration / develop module...
I would particularly like to get the camera profile for the Olympus EP-5 which I understand is supported by the latest  DNG converter.
Problem is I've downloaded it but still ONLY get ADOBE STANDARD.  I've converted some RAW images into DNG's, but still no camera profiles...
I'm not sure how I'm supposed to be using the DNG converter, or if I need it at all in order to see the different camera profiles...?
Looking forward to some advice on this, since I've found info on this to be very scanty... even tech support was not helpful...
    thx!

Where are you getting the impression that Olympus cameras have other camera profiles?
Mostly only Nikon and Canon DSLRs have more camera profiles than Adobe Standard.  I have installed up through LR 5.2 RC and ACR 8.2 RC and DNGC 8.2 RC and there are only Canon (50), Leica (1), Nikon (42), Pentax (4), and Sony (15) camera-matching profiles.  Nothing for Olympus other than Adobe Standard.
You can, of course, make your own profiles using an X-Rite Color Checker and the DNG Profile Editor:

  • Why all the micro4/3 (Panasonic and Olympus) lenses are missing in Lightroom lens corrections?

Is there a reason why all the micro4/3 lenses (panasonic, Leica and Olympus) are missing as lens corrections in all Lightroom versions?

    They are not missing.
Within the last year or two many cameras do their own lens corrections before writing the JPG or even displaying the image on the back of the camera or in the electronic view finder, so Adobe does the same thing:  the lens profiles are built into the camera raw engine and always applied.  It’s confusing because cameras didn’t used to do this and Adobe didn’t used to do this, so we have the situation of older cameras having lens profiles you had to select from the dropdown lists, while newer cameras don’t require this.  Of course removable-lens cameras still have this situation, but many/most recent P&S cameras have built-in lens corrections.
The Camera Raw plug-in for Photoshop actually indicates when a built-in profile is being used, but LR does not, yet.

  • Aperture 1.1 and Olympus E-500 RAW files

    Hi there.
    My problem:
RAW data from my Olympus E-500 isn´t supported by Aperture 1.1
After importing RAW files there´s no image data and the preview displays "unsupported image format"
I wonder why, since that camera is listed in the compatibility list under http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/cameras.html
Even if it is not listed in the compatibility list of apertures supported RAW filetypes, in my understanding aperture should deal with those files if the OS supports the camera. But this understanding seems to be wrong..
I know that RAW files can be quite different in structure, so files generated by the E-1 seem not to be the same as RAW files generated by the E-500.. even if they have the same files extension. But I wonder that even the E300 is supported but not the E500.
Does anybody knows if there is a workaround for this or if there is a chance to use Aperture with these files in the near future?
    Thanks for any information.
    G5 Dual 2.5 GHz, 4GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I know that RAW files can be quite different in
structure, so files generated by the E-1 seem not to
be the same as RAW files generated by the E-500..
even if they have the same files extension. But I
wonder that even the E300 is supported but not the
    E500.
You are indeed correct that the .ORF raw files generated by the E-1 and the E-300 are different from those generated by the E-500. Olympus must take the responsibility for this. I will assume that they had some good reason for changing the file structure between camera models, but I don't know what it is and have difficulty imagining what it could be. When the E-500 was released, there was considerable discussion about this on several forums (notably the Olympus SLR forum at dpreview.com) as there were several other software programs (sorry, can't remember which specific ones) that also had been working well with .ORF files from the E-1 and E-300, but did not support E-500 .ORF files.
Why Apple has not added support for the E-500 raw files is another good question, and I hope you've posted your request as feedback for the Aperture team. I am using Aperture and an E-1, and have been enjoying the combination ever since Aperture 1.0 was released. The raw conversions for the E-1 have definitely improved since 1.1 was released, so Apple knows something about .ORF files. I hope that you will also get to experience that (soon) when support for the E-500 files is added. I'm not aware of any workaround at this time, but will post here again should I come across one.
Let's hope that Apple has not simply assumed that all .ORF files are equal, and has not noticed that you have a problem.

  • Does Photoshop Touch have a built in raw converter for Canon, Panasonic and Olympus raw cameras?

Does Photoshop Touch have a built in raw converter that you can use with your Canon, Panasonic and Olympus raw shooting cameras ?

Thank you for getting back to me on this. Hopefully, raw conversion will be available soon and this fact will be publicized so people won't miss the opportunity.

  • Profile for Canon G10 to simulate Olympus E-3 colors

I want to create a profile for Canon G10 which will simulate Olympus E-3 colors.
I performed the following steps, but the result is very disappointing:
    1. Photographed a GretacgMacbeth ColorChecker with a G10 and a E-3, in the same light conditions (Open shade) in RAW.
    2. Converted the RAW files to DNG with DNG Converter 5.4, all default settings.
    3. Opened the E-3 DNG file in Profile Editor. White balanced by right-click on patch #19. Set Base Profile to E-3 Adobe Standard, Color table 6500K, 'Both color tables'.
    4. Set 18 Control Points, one on each color patch, #1 to #18. Wrote down the HSL values for each.
    5. Closed the E-3 file and cleared everything.
    6. Opened the G10 DNG file in Profile Editor. White balanced by right-click on patch #19. Set Base Profile to G10 Camera Standard, Color table 6500K, 'Both color tables'.
    4. Set 18 Control Points, one on each color patch, #1 to #18. Wrote down the HSL values for each.
    7. Noted the numeric difference between the HSL values for each patch in the G10 file, vs the E-3 file.
    8. Corrected the HSL values for each control point, by the numeric difference between the two files.
    9. Saved and exported with a new name.
Obviously I did something wrong, because the result is BAD!
I'll appreciate it if someone could help and point me in the right direction.
    Thanks,
    Moshe

I'd like to add two observations about my above experiment:
    1. If I change the values of a Control Point using the sliders or the point on the color wheel, the preview changes, but much less than the change of the slider. Say, I change the H slider to -10, the change in the preview is only -2, or so. Is that how it should be?
    2. If I hover with the cursor over a color patch in the ColorChecker preview the values change, probably due to noise, and it's difficult to decide which is the correct point. I didn't find an option, like in Photoshop, to set the sampling size so the value is an average of several pixels in all directions.

Generally when creating a Word file from either a Mac or Win7 pc and opening it on two different machines (either one first) it always prompts that the file is open and will be opened as read only.
However opening a CSS file does not prompt that it is already open on or from any machine which is causing code edits to be lost.
What we found from out testing:
    - The file can be saved from one user to the server and WILL NOT PROMPT on other machines until the saving machine has the Dreamweaver program closed completely
    - The file can be closed and  Dreamweaver minimised to the launch bar but it still will not register on other machines that it has been changed.
    - Also, until the  Dreamweaver program is closed on the machines, it will continue to open it's saved version of the file.
    Example Scenario:
    - User 1 opens test.css (which is 2000 lines) and adds some code to the end of the file to bring it up to 2500 lines
    - Meanwhile User 2 opens test.css as well (opens as 2000 lines as User 1’s edits have not yet been saved) and adds in code to bring it to 2300 lines
    - User 1 saves his file and closes it - but  Dreamweaver is still open.
    - User 2 also saves his file and leaves  Dreamweaver  open.
    - The server will report the size and last edit of the file the same as User 2 as he was the last person to save it (and if you open from the Win7 Machine it will show as User 2’s 2300 line version)
    - If User 1 then open's the file again (from either the 'recent' in Dreamweaver OR clicking on the file directly in Finder...which version opens.... The version that User 1 saved! Not the true version on the server, but the version that User 1 edited and saved with 2500 lines in it.
    - Same for User 2, he will open 'his' version with 2300 lines in.
    Other information:
    - Files are opened directly from the server
    - Sometimes the users will save incrementally and re-open
    - Most of the time users will save incrementally and keep the files open
    - The users will never not save incrementally and just save when closing the file once finished
    - The users are usually working on the files all day
    - It is always the bottom lines of code that are lost. It could be a case of the two versions being mixed up and cutting off the newly added lines based on the line count (possibly).
It is as if Dreamweaver is holding a cache of the version locally and then only properly looking back to the server when it has been completely closed. It is very difficult to see how the server is causing such an impact on these files, there are very few logs which are giving any indication to the root cause of the problems.
Anyone know if this is a known issue?
Is there a way that there can be a featured implemented on the server that doesn't allow another user to open a file if it is already open on another machine?
    Thanks

Your server file handling has nothing, and really nothing to do with Adobe software. If files don't get locked for (over-)writing and/or lose connection to the program opening them, then your server is misconfigured. It's as plain and simple and that. Anything from "known file types"/ file associations not being set correctly, MIME types being botched, crooked user privileges and file permissions, missing Mac server extensions, delayed file writing on the server, generic network timeout issues and what have you. Either way, you have written a longwinded post with no real value since you haven't bothered to provide any proper technical info, most notably about the alleged server. Either way, the only way you can "fix" it is by straightening out your server and network configuration, not some magic switch in Adobe's software.

  • Logical systems assignment when SRM and ECC are on 2 different servers

    Hi SRM guru's,
What is the standard practice for Logical system creation and assignment when  ECC and SRM are on 2 different servers.
I could not able to find which i created a logical system  in SRM server which i created in ECC
    Same for the ECC also.
how do i assign logical system of SRM to ECC
    vice versa.
    your prompt response is appreciated.
    Regards

    Hi Sai,
Logical System Naming/Creation procedure is not dependent on the servers but it is just a logical representation of a system.
As you are trying to name logical systems for ECC & SRM, please follow the below procedure which is usually recommeded by SAP and followed.
    Logical System : <SID>CLNT<Client Number>
For Example if you have a client 300 in system DE0 (also called SID), the logical system name will be DE0CLNT300. And it will be same for SRM system.
You can refer the below document which eplains the creation of logical system and RFC destinations etc
    http://help.sap.com/printdocu/core/Print46c/en/data/pdf/CABFAALEQS/CABFAALEQS.pdf
Note: Only while configuring the RFC Destination, the servers will play a crucial role.

as stated the minijack connection is output only apart from the 3th ring
the 3th ring part of minijack is not a std and every manufactor handle it differently
you will have to make a custom cable using the connector of a apple headset
and solder the middle mic ring to something which provide a signal on the same power level
    as the headsets mic

Hi I recently purchased a new mac computer and would like to sync the music off my iPhone to my new mac. However, my phone and my new mac have different apple Ids.The PC which my phone is synced and has the same apple ID but does not let me transfer the music. Home sharing is not working. How do I successfully transfer and sync the music off my ipone 4 to my mac book pro if they have different Apple IDs? Thanks!

What do you mean the PC won't let you transfer the music? Save your entire iTunes folder (this is assuming that you have all your music stored in your iTunes folder) to an external hard drive. Connect that hard drive to your Mac. Copy the iTunes folder to your computer. Hold down the option key while launching iTunes on your Mac. Select the library you just copied when it ask you to select which library you want to open.
