Several days ago purchased new camera and now wating for new version of ACR. It as very sad that there is no Sony in 6.3RC - wiil it be in fullversion?
And btw - why so little Sony lenses support frome Adobe - all profiles in my system fan-made - no one from Adobe
(My lenses - Zeiss 16-80 and SAL 70300G)

I want to do two-pass sharpening - capture and output - with output capture done just before I print. I do the initial (capture) sharpening in the ACR Detail/Sharpening panel, with Amount slider set to, for example, 100. Then, I open the image to PS CS5 as a Smart Object, and use layers and masks for further editting.
My question is, can I go back to ACR for the final (output) sharpening pass? When I re-open the file in ACR, the Sharpening Amount slider is back to zero, but the other three sliders are still at the settings I used at the start of the process, i.e., the capture sharpening. If I again set the Amount slider to a positive value, then again open the image in PS for printing, will my second pass through the ACR Sharpening panel take effect - will it accumulate on top of the initial sharpening?
By the way, the reason I want do output sharpening in ACR rather than, say, PS Unsharp Mask, is so I can use the Masking slider in ACR, which is much easier than the comparable techniques available in PS. I am aware that some say you should not do any masking for the output sharpening. I'd like to though.

This is pretty much the way I do it, and I also always found ACR sharpening superior to anything in Photoshop. There is the "sharpen for output" in ACR, but you have little control over it.
The tricky part is feeding the file through ACR a second time. I don't think re-opening the Smart Object will do anything more than you could have done the first time. I do it with a rendered TIFF, and have an intricate set of actions that I run in the Image Processor Pro. It's a mess, and you don't want to know.
The frustrating part is how to action ACR. I just can't figure it out. It'll work, and then I have to change some setting and the action stops working. I suspect you need a script, but so far I haven't found any.
So I've come to a compromise: I first process to TIFF in a temp folder, then I bulk open them in ACR to sharpen, then a second process to finish up.
For less critical files I have a sharpening action that comes close, involving edge masks and blend ifs, using smart sharpen which tends to preserve edges better than unsharp mask, and with less accumulation of noise.
Bottom line: I'm also very interested in further comments to this. BTW, I recently bought Lightroom 4, so maybe there is a posibility using that in a mixed workflow.

Using Lightroom and then ACR and Photoshop on a another Computer

Hi all,
I am wondering how I go when it comes to using photoshop lightroom on my home computer, with photoshop only for additional work yet at the same time being able to edit photos at school (they do not have lightroom) on ACR and Photoshop. Is their away where the changes I make at school will sync? Surely I must be able to do it and won't have to give up lightroom.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated or links to tutorials etc.

Convert propitiatory RAW files to DNG and select save metadata to file, or save the metatdata to file as xmp data. This data will then be recognised by Bridge/ PS on other machines and any processing and labelling will be recognised by Bridge/PS. However these applications are not non destructive, so any changes made to the image subsequently on your schools computer using PS rather than LR will require the production of a new file. A better way, IMO, would be to export images following processing them in LR as 16 bit TIFF files for use at school (and to encourage them to get Lightroom).
As you can use LR on two computers under your license there is nothing preventing you installing a copy on a school machine (as long as the school will let you) and using your license. This can only be for use by yourself, but you could show your teachers how useful it is and you would be able to take your catalog on an external disk with you and use it there.

ACR and Nikon D800e Raw files

This discussion is actually a follow on to an earlier one where I thought the issue was resolved. I am using CS5 extended 64 bit with WIN 7 64bit and ACR version 6.7. I verified the ACR version checking for updates and was informed I am up to date. According to the ADOBE help site ACR v 6.7 is available to open Nikon D800e raw files. However when I try and open these raw files there is a message that the camera model is not supported. Any help on why the raw files cannot be opened with ACR 6.7 is appreciated.

Thanks Noel - after several hours of experimenting, I found the issue. I use a stand a lone software, Nikon Transfer, to download images to the computer. The software allows me to preview/select, rename, and make simultaneous copies for backup. This software has worked without issue, however when downloading images from the Nikon D800e, it does something to the raw files making them incompatible with ADOBE's ACR and even Nikon's ViewNX 2 software. Now here is the real curosity. When Nikon Transfer is initiated from within Nikon View2 software and not as a stand a lone, it works, and ADOBE ACR 6.7 can read the raw files. Again thanks for the help.

ACR and Stitching From RAW Files

I see something peculiar happening on recent stitches.
I have say, three frames to stitch from RAW. One frames a little overexposed, so I open in ACR, drop the exposure to compensate and save. Then I open all three frames in Photoshop>Merge as RAW files. When the adjusted frame shows up, the adjustment is ignored.
I can fix this by opening the other two and do a very slight change to them, save, then all three show up as expected, the bright one matching the other two close enough to get a uniform stitch.
Now I am doing this as a quick test of the stitch, to see if I really am interested, and if so, I go back and open all three in ACR and make the corrections. After doing all three, I can uncouple the bright one and tweak its exposure, then save and stitch, no problem.
Is this normal?

I am selecting the images after making the raw adjustments in Bridge and selecting Photomerge under the Tools.
I haven't experienced this either until now. The difference is that Iwould always select the images and open in ACR first, and run the corrections synchronized. Occasionally, one would be off enough to require special tweaking so after the synch corrections, I would select it, correct it then click Done. Getting a bit lazy, especially with many panos waiting, I do a quick test and in this case, only one of the three needed tweaking. Running Merge as above ignored the tweak.
Try it yourself. Pick some images to merge that have not been through RAW, and tweak one only in ACR. Click Done then Photomerge from Bridge under Tools.
I've done this twice now, after exiting Bridge and Photoshop first.

You probably just need to update Camera Raw in CS6 via Help > Updates.
Confirm which ACR version you have installed via Help (Win) or Photoshop (Mac) > About Plug-In > Camera Raw.

ACR and dynamic range tests

I have been looking at dynamic range tests on dpreview.com for different cameras. I'm particularly intrigued by the "RAW headroom" graphs. They have things like "ACR Best: Exp. -0.85 EV, Shadows 0, Bright. 70, Contrast -25, Curve Linear" (Pentax K10D), "ACR Best: Exp. -1.3 EV, Shadows 0, Bright. 70, Contrast -50, Curve Linear" (Canon 30D) "ACR Best: Exp. -1.0 EV, Shadows 0, Bright. 70, Contrast -50, Curve Linear" (Canon 400D). The "RAW ACR Best" curves for all these cameras are very different, and I don't think I understand their real meaning, so here are a few questions:
- What is a "linear curve" in ACR? Does it mean no curve at all is applied to the RAW data, and so what we see is the actual sensor response? Or, does ACR apply a standard curve to RAW data from all cameras, even when a "linear curve" is selected? Or even yet, are there different default curves (even with "linear curve" selected) for different cameras in ACR, and what implications would this have when comparing graphs from different cameras?
- Since these cameras have most likely been processed with different versions of ACR (since they were released at different times), could ACR's algorithms and defaults have been changed in any way that might prevent these tests from being readily comparable? For example, the noise reduction and highlight recovery algorithms might have been improved in the latest versions of ACR.

ACR will not give you the actual sensor response with no white balance or gamma encoding; for this purpose you need a specialized program such as DCRaw. If you convert into sRGB or aRGB, the image is encoded with a gamma of 2.2, whereas a gamma of 1.8 is used for ProPhotoRGB.
If you want to linearize the tonal response in ACR you can set the sliders on the basic tab to zero (Exposure, Brightness, Contrast to and Shadows). Curves was added in ACR ver 3.X and you should also set the curve to linear. The Medium and Strong Contrast in the curves tab adds to the Contrast slider in the basic tab, and I think that the two were not merged for reasons of backward compatibility. In all cases, the resulting image is gamma encoded. To learn more about these controls, I would recommend Bruce Fraser's Real World Camera Raw for PSCS2 book. The Exposure and Black sliders set the black and white endpoints respectively. The contrast control applies an S curve around the midpoint, which is set by the Brightness control (see p 81). Jeff Schewe is revising the book for PSCS3 due out shortly.
Dynamic range is limited by the noise floor and improvements in noise reduction in the current version of ACR could affect the results. Phil's dynamic range measurement uses highlight recovery with the Exposure slider (negative values). ACR 4.1 also has the Recovery slider, but he apparently does not use this control.

Colour Mismatch between ACR and CS6

I have weird issue with ACR and CS6. I process under ProPhoto RGB, 16 bit. When I'm happy with my processing, I then open up in CS6. This is when it get weird, the image that opens up is quite a bit flatter and less contrasty to the version I had in ACR. I've got CS6 as a view a ProPhoto RGB profile. The monitor is an ASUS wide gamut monitor and calibrated with an I1D2 puck using HP's custom software from it's Z-series printer.
I don't experience this problem when I'm using CS6/ACR on my office computer, the only difference is my office machine doesn't have a wide gamut screen.
I've reset my Photoshop preferences and recalibrated my screen. I'm running W7 Home 64 on a Dell Studio 15, i7 laptop.
Any suggestions?

Those are the settings I'm using, but I expanded to More Options and there was a check box for Compensate for Scene-referred profiles. When I unchecked that, my image went back to what it should have been.

CC and internet connection affecting ACR and Photoshop

If I am offline for extended periods in location that don't have internet (yes they do exist) and I'm talking about more than 30 days (again yes some of us are without internet for more than 30 days) what happens when I want to work on the photos that I've been busy shooting during that time? Will ACR and PS suddenly stop working becasue they are cloud based and need to check in with big brother to check my subs? If the day I arrive abroad and Abode suddenly decides that today is the day they are going to check that I've paid to play this stupid new game of cloud based software and I cannot get online then what happens? Will I lose the ability to work till I get back online, surely not?? Abode has covered this eventuality I'm presuming, they aren't stupid enough surely to not have right? When I click the error message than FF will open. Also, when I'm trying to send emails from an online shopping cart thru my business and I'm getting an error that it won't send and that's never happened until this problem w/FF. Please tell me what i should to to get FF working normally again.

Is it a message from Firefox or from the Mac Operating System ?

There is no solution. You have to provide the ID and password. There is no way around it. If the person you bought it from can't provide it, return it and get your money back.

Antivirus has a tendency to freeze iTunes sync Operation with iPod Classic, causing a timeout, which corrupt your iPod filesystem, so when iTunes can't read the iPod, it is pointing to this problem. Other causes is when your iPod hardisk is dying, or your battery is dying causing hardisk crashes.
My suggestion.
Connect your iPod to the PC and run chkdsk, to fix any iPod diskerror, then disconnect it, after chkdsk complete.
Disconnect your PC from Internet. (just to make sure no nasties creep into your system while you syncing.
Stop the Antivirus program
Connect your Ipod to the PC
When iTunes Open up, Restore your iPod please, this is for iTunes to map correctly, to fix the corrupted filesystem.
When Restore complete, eject the iPod and reconnect again.
Sync your ipod, preferably manually Manage in small batches and disconnect after every batch, to check that all is well, since you got such a huge library.
When all sync is complete, and iPod disconnected, start back your Antivirus and connect back the Internet.
If this doesn't resolve your problem, then let me know.

I have just upgraded from CS 6 (Dreamweaver) and now when I click on a picture on a web page in Dreamweaver it doesn't go to the folder where the photo is stored anymore. If this continues I'll have to go back to CS 6 as I have to put in alot of photos.
