Acrobat 9 ReduceFileSize chokes on PPT PDF document

Hi folks,
just printed a .ppt file created w/ MS PowerPoint 2008 Mac to disk (as .pdf document). When I tried to reduce the file size of this .pdf in Acrobat Pro 9.3, an error msg came up:
"An error was encountered while processing images."
Now I reopened that same .ppt file w/ MS PowerPoint 2004 Mac and printed it to disk (as .pdf document). When I tried to reduce the file size of this .pdf document w/ the same Acrobat app, the process was successful. Any clues?
Why can't Acrobat 9.3 reduce the file size of .pdf documents that were originally created with PPT2008, but is able to do so if the .pdf is derived from PPT2004???

HI Hamu
Thanks for your response. I spent way too much time on this today compared to what it was worth, and your post was similar to another that I found. I followed some of the advice for using the optimiser from the following URL and was able to optimise the document from about 3 Mb to 1.5 Mb without the optimiser choking. Give it a go...

  • Flash content is making my Adobe Acrobat X to crash (how to disable flash in the PDF documents?)

    Hello
I have Adobe Acrobat X, and I have a PDF document of around 700 pages. Inside, I have several pages I've downloaded from different websites, some of these pages have flash animations (I mean adverts with flash), when I click in a certain page of my PDF document that has a flash animation inside, booom it crash automatically.
How may I disable flash in my PDF documents?
    Thanks

Realistically you can't. Flash is enabled in the Acrobat X Family via embedded code, as it not only runs content within a PDF but also runs several elements of the user interface, such as the Share Pane.
If you know of a particular PDF file that is causing crashes, please submit it via a bug report.

  • Print PDF document with printer's name and date/time of print

    Hi,
    I'm pretty new to this...
I have a PDF document and when I print it, I want the printer's name and the date/time of print to be showed on the printer's output.
I have several printers (some local and some on network) and don't necessarly use the default one. I would like the name of the printer used, to be printed on the document.
With var h = this.getField("Printer"); h.value = app.printerNames; I'm able to get the list of all printers available but I just need the one used.
For the date/time, using var f = this.getField("Today"); f.value = util.printd("mmm/d/yyyy", new Date()); gives me the date/time of when the document is open, not when the document is printed. (or maybe I'm missing something?)
I guess the date/time issue is not the major one as there is usually not much difference between the time you open the document and the time you print it.
I'm more interested in the printer's name.
I use Acrobat Pro 9 to edit my PDF document.
    Can anyone help me please?
    Thanks!

This project was left aside for a while... but it's now finished!
Thank you for the answers. It was helpful.
Here is a step-by-step of what I did (using Adobe Acrobat 9.5.1):
    Open PDF document in Acrobat
Select Forms -> Add or Edit Fields
Add two text fields: one called "Today" for the date and one called "Printer" for the printer name
    Close the form editing
Select Advanced -> Document Processing -> Set Document Actions...
Then select Document Will Print and Edit
    Paste the following code:
    var f = this.getField("Today"); f.value = util.printd("dd mmm yyyy - HH:MM", new Date());
    var pp = this.getPrintParams();
    this.getField("Printer").value = pp.printerName;
    Save your PDF
    Enjoy!
The date and printer name field will be automatically updated when you print the document!

  • Can't view PDF documents

I downloaded Acrobat 9. When I open PDF documents from my email the content looks like an unrecognized language, gibrish. However the same file can be opened and viewed if I open it as "open as a web page'. What is the solution?
    yoram.

    Dear Bill,
Thank you. I wiill try to describe the problem in details.
I am writing this email from my laptop (DELL XPS M1300 with Window Vista) that I have for 3 years has Adobe Acrobat Reader 9 that works without problems for several years.
I attached an article to this email, in PDF, as an example.
When I double click on the attachment in an email I received the "file download" appear with options for open, save, and cancel, and above it under Type: Adobe Acrobat Reader 378KB . The same thing occur when I right click on it and then press open. when I press open the article is downloaded and openned as PDF file.
In the new computer (HP Touchsmart 600 with Window 7) I downloaded Adobe Acrobat Reader 9. When I left doubleclick on "open" for the same attachment I received from the same email a window internet explorer box appear that says "unable to download attachment .ashx from owa.med.wayne.edu unable to open this internet site The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. When I right click on the attachment and then left click open the "file download" appear with options for open, save, and cancel, and above it under Type: PDF-auto-file,378KB (not Adobe Acrobat Reader 378KB) . When I click open the attachment is downloaded and openned. The content is giberich, not understood. When I left doubleclick on the portion "open as web page" of the attachment the article is downloaded and openned, but not in PDF format.
I do not believe that the problem is related to the internet provider or the email provider.
    What do you suggest?

  • Problem with selecting text in a PDF document

I'm having a problem with Acrobat 9 and Reader 9.  PDF document that has copying and selecting permissions granted, when I highlight text for copying, some of it gets highlighted and some doesn't.  Put the same document on several computers in the office, same issue.  It's the document, but I can't figure out what the deal is.
We need to copy large portions of this into a new tech manual.
    Can someone help

Without further information, my first reaction is to think that the texts that you cannot copy are included as images.

  • How can you create a writable PDF document from a PPT presentation ?

How can you create a writable PDF document from a PPT presentation ? Upper part with the image , lower part with a free space in order to take notes for students during presentation or course.
    Thanks.

You can make a PDF file out of you notes and handouts but using the Adobe PDF printer.
Open your PowerPoint Document then go to “File” “Print”
    Select ‘Adobe PDF” Printer
Under slides, select which way you want to print. Note it will not print to a printer but to a PDF file.
After then go into printer Properties and Setup PDF properties, do the following: (see second image below)
    Default: PDF/A 1-b
Adobe Security: none (change as needed)
Adobe Output folder: Prompt for Adobe file name
Adobe Page size: Letter (change as needed)
    Check the following check boxes
    View Adobe PDf Results,
    Add Document Information,
    Rely on system fonts only,
Delete Log files for successful jobs.
    Select OK
A pop will ask you where you want to save the document. The file extension should be PDF. After giving the file name select okay and the file should popup as a PDF. Down side is if you want to speaker notes included then you will have to do another file, like wise with just screen shots then combine into one PDF document.
I used Acrobat IX Pro. So to do this you need Acrobat IX or X Pro.
    Hope this will help.

  • Occasional letters missing in pdf document created in Acrobat XI Pro

I have been working on a pdf document created from Indesign By Acrobat XI Pro that will be for online download. The first version was fine. Links had to be added and some of the text coloured. After edits occasional letters have gone missing throughout the document. Why on earth is this happening? I now have to go through the entire document with a fine toothcomb before submitting it to my client again. It doesn't make me look good!
    Any ideas?
    Salli G.

I suspect that you somehow deleted the embedding of the fonts. Check the document properties and be sure all fonts are embedded.

  • How to insert links in an Acrobat 8 pdf document to open folders

I am using Acrobat 8 and have made a "menu" page in InDesign which will has links in it to open other pdf documents. I have successfully exported to PDF from InDesign and inserted links to my PDF files which work perfectly. I now need to insert a link to direct the user to a particular folder so they can view the files/folders within that folder.
The complete set of documents will be burnt onto DVD and the "menu" pdf will open using an autorun file.
How can I insert a link in the PDF document that will open the folder that I want the reader to be able to view and navigate through themselves.  Any suggestions would be very much appreciated as this is a major job for a client.  I have seen a few ideas on the net but nothing that really answers my particular question.
    Cheers - Claire

what should have been done, is place all the PDF in Folder including your contents page and Make all your links in Indesign. Then burn the folder to the DVD. That way all the links would be relative to location of the files.
Try a test that way. As was said Acrobat can't do it.

  • When I try to open Adobe Acrobat XI Pro it just freezes, it also freezes when opening a PDF document. What can be done to resolve this or troubleshoot this?

Adobe Acrobat Pro XI is having some issues. When just the base program opens it freezes before I can even do anything with preferences. The same thing happens when I open a PDF document from anywhere. I have cleared the %temp% directory and repair installed the program with no success in finding a resolution to this issue. I have removed Adobe AIR as a thread indicated that this program could be the cause of some issues. I even restarted the print spooler as that was mentioned in a different post on Adobe Support Forums.

I would suggest rebooting (particularly if you have not) and log in as the administrator. Also, it sounds like you can open Acrobat, but then it locks up when you try to do the preferences. So in that case go to Help>Repair and apply that. Then repeat the process with Help>Updates to get current. See if that resolves the issues. Since you mentioned %temp%, I assume you are on a windows machine, but which one?

  • While creating a PDF document usinf Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, it generates additional blank pages.

While creating a PDF document using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, it generates additional blank pages. How do I resolve this issue?

I might make a wild guess that you are using WORD and have used hard page breaks. If that is the case, then likely what happens is when you print to PDF the document is being reflowed to match the printer and the forced page break may end up on the next page and be forcing a second page. Just a guess.

  • I'm trying to use my older Acrobat 4 for printing files from an older Macintosh with system 9, so that I can store and use the pdf documents in a newer MacBook Air, with OSX 10.9.  Acrobat 4 worked previously but no longer works.  Any way to fix it?

I am trying to transfer older files from a Mac PowerBook G4, running system 9, printing those documents as pdf, using Acrobat 4.  Then those pdf documents will transfer to my newer MacBook Air, running OSX 10, allowing me to store and use them.  My problem is that Acrobat 4 no longer seems to work on the old Mac, and I don't know how to fix it.  Can anyone give me some suggestions?

You never know, someone might remember. What happens in detail when you try to use it, and HOW are you trying to use it?

  • My Adobe Acrobat will no longer let me save PDF documents

I own the Adobe Creative Suite 4 that comes with Adobe Acrobat, which for years has allowed me to save PDF documents. Last month I decided to test Adobe Acrobat Pro for 30 days to see how well it converted PDF documents, and have since decided against it. I did not subscribe or buy a license for it and would like to be able to use my old version of Adobe Acrobat to save PDF documents, but it no longer allows me to do so. I re-installed it from the disk but it still won't let me save PDF files. I do not want to purchase a program that I already have just to be able to save PDF documents and would like to know how to get mine to work again. I work on a Mac.
Thank you to anyone that can help me.

    Hi Sara,
the Suite comes with Adobe Acrobat, and I've had it for a few years, I paid full price for the suite. However, it seems that after I downloaded the new Acrobat Reader the old one no longer shows up for me to show you the issue. The new one works. And I think it is very odd that it did that as well. My guess is that the trial version of Pro that I downloaded to test out messed with the old version I had, and it refused to let me use it for a while, then I was able to force it to come up but the "Save" option was just NOT highlighted as an option. I was even having a difficult time downloading the regular version of Adobe Acrobat up until today, after I posted on this website. Every time I tried it said it couldn't because I already had a version in my computer. But today it allowed me. Very bizarre. A definite glitch I think. Anyhow, I don't think we can proceed because I can't get my old version up, the new one probably wrote over the old one. So...thank you again for your interest, I really appreciate it.

  • Print Problem - PDF is OK on Windows 7, but OK on Windows XP with "Acrobat Reader An error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly. Please contact the person who created the PDF document to correct the problem."

I have received a PDF which prints fine in Windows 7 but with Windows XP I get "Acrobat Reader An error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly. Please contact the person who created the PDF document to correct the problem." and a blank piece of paper passes through the printer. I appreciate that Windows XP is no longer supported but I would like to think that the solution to this problem is not too difficult!
    I have tried Acrobat 9, 10 and 11.
Any advice (apart from use Windows 7! ) would be most welcome.
    Many thanks.

If you use the same Adobe Reader versions with the same PDF on Windows 7 and XP, then I would expect the outcome to be the same.
Is this a local or online PDF?
If local, is the file really exactly the same?
    If online, in what browser?

  • Problems in Windows 8 creating PDF documents using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.5.5

I am running Windows 8 with the latest version of MS Office (version 14) and Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.5.5.  I was not having any problems making/printing PDF documents until about 30 days ago.  The only things that I can think of that have changed during this time period is 1) I updated my Office Suite to version 14 from the previous version and, most recently, 2) my Adobe Acrobat Reader program was automatically updated to the latest version.  I ended-up uninstalled Adobe Reader becuase the new program became my default for openning all Adobe PDF files, even when I tried to force my computer to use Adobe Acrobat Pro as the default (becuase doing so allows me to edit docments with features not available in the free Reader version).  When I go to print a Word document, for example, to Adobe Acrobat, the process stalls/stops at the point where you are supposed to choose a location to print/safe the new PDF document file.  All I get is the Save-As Screen with most of the buttons and folder tree blank (see example below).  After 5-10 seconds, "not responding" shows up in the title of the Save-As Screen and I have to click the "X" box in the upper right corner to abort.  This problem seems to have first started when trying to print pictures from the Windows picture viewer.  After a while long, I noticed that the same problem occured when printing from my internet browser (Firefox), but I coudl still print from Word or Excel.  Now, as of the last couple of days, I can't print from any program except the basic Paint software program.  I think this may actually be a Windows issue because when trying to toublshoot this problem, I re-installed Adobe Acrobat Pro and it did not help. I also tried making PDF documents using the free PrimoPDF software and had the exact same problem.  I have no idea where to go from here.  All I know is that I desperately need to create PDF documents and cannot!  Please help!!

You're asking a lot of ancient Acrobat to work with an Office that never existed when it was made. "Just updated my office suite" is a massive change, and Window 8 didn't exist at that time either...

This usually occurs if you use a browser that uses its own PDF viewer, not the Adobe Reader plugin; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-browser-plugin-configuration.html
