Acrobat PDF Writer

What is the current version of Adobe Acrobat PDF Writer?

This was part of Acrobat up to version 5, discontinued many years ago. The modern equivalent is the Adobe PDF printer driver with Acrobat 11.

  • Win 7 error: no acrobat pdf writer driver (but writer not installed)

    Hi,
win 7 (64 bit) error log says acrobat pdf writer failed to initialise - no driver found. But I dont have acrobat writer installed so cant understand why its looking for this driver? How can I get rid of this error please? Regards, Don.

    Hi,
    I have installed:
    Adobe AIR
    Adobe Flash Player
I found the error in ‘Events Log’ saying:
Printer Acrobat PDFWriter failed to initialize because a suitable Acrobat PDFWriter driver could not be found. The new printer settings that you specified have not taken effect. Install or reinstall the printer driver. You might need to contact the vendor for an updated driver.

  • Adobe PDF Writer (v5.0) won't install; can't find LPT1 port

I've searched extensively for an answer on this question, and the most common answer is no answer or use a newer PDF creator.
The department I support uses database software that was never programmed to support any PDF creator past PDF Writer, so all users of this software have Acrobat Professional 5.0.5 installed using the "Custom" option to include the PDF Writer.
All workstations run XP, sp3.  I have never seen this problem on any other machine.  I have installed version 5 on other machines with newer installations of Acrobat (7,8, and 9) with no functionality issues.  The machine that won't install the PDF Writer had V8 installed.  I have removed Acrobat V8 to try to get the V5 installation to run.  I have tried running the V5 installation first without PDF Writer, and then adding in the PDF Writer.
In all cases, as soon as you click "Install" after checking "PDF Writer", the error "Acrobat PDF Writer requires a LPT1: printer port.  Setup could not find this required port.  The PDF Writer component will not be installed.  To install PDF Writer, add a LPT1: port and run setup again" always appears, and the installation tries to continue without the PDF Writer.
This computer has a fully-functioning LPT1 port (as well as LPT2 and LPT3) which is not in use by any other printers (according to the printer properties display).  XP shows the port under Device Manager as functioning properly, although I have both disabled/re-enabled the port, as well as uninstalling it and rebooting, at which point it re-installs properly.
All high-priority Windows XP updates are current and again, on similar machines, similarly imaged, I have never had this problem using the same media.  I have tried installing a printer on this port and adding drivers.  All machine users have Administrator privileges (unfortunately)
Due to the large quantity of data and software on this user's machine (and the fact that otherwise it runs great), I would REALLY rather not re-image the machine.
Any help or ideas will be GREATLY appreciated.

Hey, good idea, and I hadn't done it, but nothing is remaining from any previous Acrobat installs (according to the Cleanup Utility).  I do pretty good registry cleanup on these machines as I work on them for other reasons/updates.
    Other ideas?

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 PDF Writer replaces default printer

I have tried to look this up but no one seems to have a definitive answer for this problem. First let me explain my organization's set-up and what the problem is.
I work for a high school with several PC's running a mix of Windows 7 and Windows XP in our network. We have several computer labs (all of the labs are running Windows 7 Pro 32-bit). Our network administrator has set the default network printer for each lab in Group Policy. Our server is running Windows 2008 Server R2. Our labs have Adobe Design Suite CS4 (with Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4).
The problem? When students log on to the computers, the default printer gets changed from the network printer that it should be to the Adobe PDF Writer. I have been unable to find a solution to this problem anywhere. What I need to know first of all is what type of problem is this? Is there a setting somewhere that I can change to turn it off? Is it in Group Policy? Is it in Adobe Acrobat? Someone on another forum even suggested it might be a Microsoft Word problem. Is Word the program that changes the default? Is it something else?
PLEASE if anyone has a solution to this problem let me know! We're wracking our brains over here.
    Thanks!

  • PDF writer and distiller do not appear as available in windows 7 using Acrobat 5

Trying to install my Acrobat 5 with Windows 7. The pdf writer and distiller appear to instal after satisfying the syetm requirement for a postscript driver.  The software then installs fully but the pdf writer and distiller do not show up under printers.  There is a warning that a compatibility issue exists, how can this be fixed please?

Acrobat 5 is not supported on Windows 7. You need to upgrade. Sorry about that.

  • PDF writer losing files

In Acrobat Pro 8 with Vista I can't print from the web as a pdf.   I click print and select PDF Writer (as normal) I then have option to name the file, and browse to where I want it to go. I do that and  then click Print ... and a pop up window then advises : "For your computer security, this file was saved to the Temporary Internet Files Folder. Do You want to open this folder?"    I select yes .. it opens a folder, but there is no pdf file in it .... If I select No ... I am left with no file anyway.
Carrying out a search of the file name also does not return the file's location ... where the heck does VISTA put the file, and how can I get it to put them where I select ?

Thank you.  I have 8.1 and my terminology is just leftover due to my many years of using the older versions.  you are correct I am not seeing "writer" but it is infact "AdobePDF" unfortunately I still can't find the files.  I did try repair and updates before I posted. but neither solved my problem.  It is just one of those things that is bugging me because it is causing me so many extra steps for a function I use so often.  I am open to any other suggestions.
    Thank you for your help.

  • Does anyone know why I cant save (dnloaded) form to edit fields with Cute PDF Writer?

Please Help!!  I am trying to get stuff out to a customer, and I have to keep re-entering information each time.........For some reason after I download a form and complete the fields from internet,  I PRINT/SAVE to Adobe Cute PDF Writer.  Later when I open the file from harddrive I am unable to edit the fields....But I notice even after saving to the Writer,  it automatically opens as reader not writer.   I have tried to associate to the Writer but I cant find it, although I know its on my computer it isnt under program files.
My main question - Before I go through the trouble of reinstall, does cute PDF Writer actually allow edits or do I have to get a real PDF writer?
So if the software does allow editing forms, is it maybe just not fully loaded, and should I reinstall the Cute PDF Writer???? Id appreciate any ideas at this point, this has caused alot of wasted time so far....

Go to the Acrobat forum here to discuss PDF form creation and editing with Adobe's own Acrobat products. CutePDF Writer, created by another company, only writes PDF. It cannot create or edit forms.

  • How to install only pdf writer on Windows?

Is there any way to install only the pdf writer software and plugins on a windows system?
I wont get into the details of why I need this but the system is limited on space. We are also trying to limit the footprint of Adobe acrobat due to all the security issues.
    Thanks
    Jas

Nope. If you just need a PDF printer, you can always find alternative products, including the free GhostScript with PDFL.

  • Printing to PDF Writer using VBA from MS Access

I have the printer properties for the Adobe PDF Writer set to use a default output folder on my desktop, and to not prompt for a filename.  I have a loop in MS Access VBA that sends about 3000 individual reports to the PDF Writer, one after the next after the next.
The code in Access modifies the reports "caption" to include the employee number for the record it is on... that caption becomes the name of the report in the print queue... and the PDF Writer uses that as the filename!  Each one has a different filename and eventually it prints all my reports.
Recently I have been getting an error from MS Access that says "Error 2212.  Could not print your report."  It stops the print run and I have to reset and pick up where it left off.  Sometimes it prints 50 sometimes it prints 2500 before it hits that error.  Sometimes it takes 5 or tries to get the job completed.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be going on?

  • Anyone can please reccomend any good pdf writer software products?

I am looking for an easy way to convert documents ( pictures, data sheets, word, excel ) to pdfs. There are many products around ( lower cost alternative to Adobe Acrobat ) but of what I tried so far each of them have some annoyances.

The best so far seem to be PDF Creator and PDF Writer Pro ( http://www.amicutilities.com/pdf-writer/ ) . I would also try other to compare them before making a buy decision, so if you have any suggestions please let me know

  • Save As dialog window disappears when trying to save or use pdf writer

When I try to create a pdf using a pdf writer/printer, or even when i try to save a pdf file, the dialog box showing where to save it appears then immediately disappears before i can choose a name or location to save the pdf.  i have tried reinstalling the reader, reooting, reinstalling the pdf writer, nothing seems to work.

I have tried multiple pdf writers including cutepdf and a proprietary pdf writer so I am pretty sure the problem lies within adobe reader.  Especially since the problem occurs when I just try to save the pdf and not use the writer.

  • Can't open Acrobat pdf files in document library - SBS 2011

I've uploaded some Acrobat PDF files to a document library in the companyweb (SharePoint 2010 Foundation website) on SBS 2011. But if I click on one of them in the standard view, acrobat opens and displays a message “The URL you have provided could not be
reached. Please verify that the URL is correct and that the network location is reachable.” I'm using Acrobat Reader XI 11.0.2 and Internet Explorer 10.
I have tried a few suggested solutions, eg to edit the docicon.xml file to include <Mapping Key="pdf" Value="AdobePDF.png" OpenControl="AdobeAcrobat.OpenDocuments"/>, check that the WebClient service is running, and
Use Remote Interfaces permission is set on the SharePoint site. But no luck.
I don't know if this is a problem with SBS 2011, or Acrobat, or Internet Explorer. Interestingly the pdf opens OK in Chrome. It looks like it is trying to edit the document instead of open it in the acrobat reader.
    Anyone know of a solution?

I have found one possible solution. In my case the site was brought into Sharepoint Foundation 2010 as a migrated site from a previous SBS installation.
The site was imported as http://servername and the IIS site had a host header with companyweb so that users could browse to it, and all references to the site were as http://companyweb
All my attempts to open the PDFs were using the http://companyweb URL.
I was researching the issue and had gone through everything, but one thing got me thinking when some sites suggested that I look at the permissive or strict browser file open settings. I looked at the web application and it was set to http://servername in
the Central Administration site. I thought hmm let's try opening the Adobe PDF docs with that URL instead, and it worked!
So I changed the web application URL to http://companyweb and tried again and hey presto it's now working.
I really hope this helps someone, it took me a good couple of hours of my day researching to find the solution here.
Some extra info: we are using Adobe Reader 11.0.6 with IE11. Testing with Firefox worked, but that opens the document by downloading it locally and then using Adobe Reader. fix The above actually resolves the problem, it's nothing to do with permissive or strict
file open settings, I set the SP site back to strict and PDFs still open fine.

  • Error message when trying to convert powerpoint presentation to Adobe Acrobat PDF

When trying to create an Adobe Acrobat PDF file from Powerpoint (save as Adobe PDF from the Print menu), Automator gives the following error message: "an error occurred while saving the PDF file". Currently using version 14.4.6 of Microsoft Powerpoint for Mac, 11.0.09 Adobe Acrobat and OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 on iMac. Also had the same problem previously with Mavericks and Mountain Lion. The problem seems to be the Apple Automator not working correctly with the Acrobat interface. I create Acrobat PDF docs perfectly well on my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.7.5) and am scared to update to the latest version of OS X in case that also affects the ability to create PDFs.
I have tried using Apple's own PDF creator, and doing this by first creating PS files then converting to PDF, however, many bugs appear in the files, and they are enormous - around 5x the size of Acrobat PDFs, so this is not an option. I have also tried troubleshooting with Adobe to no avail.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Jane

    Hi star2111,
Please tell us a bit more about the error message that you're receiving, and where you're seeing it (in Adobe Reader, or the ExportPDF website?). It will also be helpful to know whether the error occur when just one file, or with any file that you try to convert.
I look forward to hearing back from you.
    Best,
    Sara

  • Printing to acrobat pdf locks up computer

I have Acrobat 8 with Win XP. Has worked fine in the past, but lately when I try to print a document to Acrobat PDF it jsut locks up my computer and never prints. It seems to stay in the spooler forever. I tried turning off background printing, updating (no updates avail), and doing a repair install. Nothing works.

    Hi Steve,
Please try the steps mentioned below in order and see if it helps.
    1)Click on \"Start > Control Panel.\" Click on \"Printers and Faxes
    2) Delete The Adobe PDF Printer
    3) Go to the Print Server properties by Clicking on the file menu.
    4) Go to Drivers and delete the Adobe PDF Printer Driver ( Do not delete the Package, remove only the drivers)
    5) Now repair the Acrobat installation.
    6) This would add the PDF printer again, now try printing.
Also, if it does not add the PDF Printer, try to add it manually using (The below mentioned URL is for 64 bit machine the path Program file X86 would be Program Files for 32 bit)
Acrobat: PDF Printer missing after installation on Windows 64-Bit
