Activating adobe services in java stack (portal)

hi,
any one plz help me how to activate adobe services in java stack (portal)  (or)  do we have to seperately apply a add-on for adobe services .
thanks,
rahul

Hi,
I will jot down  the points in a nutshell.
1) Do you have the ADS server ready. Otherwise deploy ADS related SC's to your j2EE engine
2) Connect your R/3 to the ADS server
3) mainatain entries in the j2EE engine
4) Other steps like ADS user creation etc. too needs to be done
It is quite tedious;as Juan said, better to read the whole stuff before starting.
Do let know if you face any issues in between.

Hemanth

  • How to enable ping service on java-stack only system

I have installed SAP NetWeaver 7.0 - Java Trial on local host.
How can you activate the ping service there?
    It should work under "http://localhost:50000/sap/bc/ping"
(I know how to activate it with transaction SICF in an abap system, but I have java-stack only here, so I can't call transactions. I can only use the Visual Admin, right?, but there I could not detect a ping service so far)
    More detailed:
I created system "SAP_WebDynpro_XSS". (this is necessary for connecting to ECC abap backend for ESS Packages) and set following parameter:
    template:"SAP system using connection string"
         category: Web Application Server
              Web AS host name: chrisSAP:50000
              Web AS path: /webdynpro/dispatcher/
              Web AS protocol: http
But when I test the "SAP Web AS Connection" for this system, I got following error:
    7. The Web AS ping service http://chrisSAP:50000/sap/bc/ping was not pinged successfully. If the ping service is not activated on the Web AS, you can try to call the ping service manually.
    8. An HTTP/S connection to http://chrisSAP:50000/webdynpro/dispatcher/ was not
obtained successfully; this might be due to a closed port on the Firewall.
I guess step 8 did not pass because step 7 failed, and not because of a closed port or firewall (I made sure everything is open.)
The strange thing is that the connection test fails, but the connection seems to work fine!
I mean I can see the front ESS page in the portal when logging in with an ESS-user, and there are no errors in the log. If I change the SAP_WebDynpro_XSS parameters to some other made-up values, then the front ESS page does not come up and some errors appear with "SAP_WebDynpro_XSS" inside.
That proofs that the connection is working despite the failed connection test, right?. But what can I do that the connection test passes? It seems that somehow SAP has hardcoded the path "/sap/bc/ping" which usually exists on an abap system. But I have java-stack only, so how can I tell that the function that runs the test?
A system connection test fails, but the connection is working fine!
If someone could explain that to me...

    Dear Srini Nookala,
thank you for your answer. Unfortunately I don't understand the relation of my question to your answer.
    >> check with OSS note 1019335 SAP NetWeaver AS Java 6.40 SP21
I have Version 7.0 SP14. I read the OSS note, but there are around 100 changes listed. I read them all, but couldn't figure out one that has to do with ping and system test. So which sentence inside the note are you referring to?
    >> The problem is due to JCo parameters configuration not properly, Ask Basis team, they will do it.
I am basis team. I configured the JCo properly as described in manual and tested them afterwards. They run successful. Also all the links that you gave refer to JCO connections about how to set them up and test them. But what have JCO connections to do with System-connection tests? As far as I know JCO-connections are not used for system connectivity tests. You can set them up independent. I understand that JCO-connections are used for getting data from backend servers. But the system "SAP_WebDynpro_XSS" is defined for determing the webdynpros on localhost (frontend, not backend).
So please can you explain me what JCO-connections which refer to remote hosts have to do with a ping service on local host that cannot be reached? And which part would be not configured "properly"? Timeouts? user?
To define my question more properly:
Is it possible to make the connection test work on a java-stack only host for a system that refers to itself (localhost)? Or is it a known bug?
    Some sub-questions
Am I using the right system template (I am using "SAP system using dedicated application server")
I have no abap on local host (chrisSAP). Only java stack. Usually path ..sap/bc/ping refers to an abap system, right? So in my opinion I have 3 possibilities:
    - install abap-stack on local host (portal) and activate ping service.
    - somehow install a ping service that runs under the given URL in Visual Admin (how?)
    - somehow tell the connection test to skip pinging and continue test. (How?)
Any additional advice would be highly appreciated.

  • How do I report/analyze data from the KM activity reporting service

I have turned on the km activity reporting service and I am getting .txt files generated with the information I am looking for but now I'm looking for the best way to collect this data from all the server clusters and aggregate the data for easier data analysis.  I have reviewed the 'how to analyze portal activity with the activity data collector' white paper.  This leads me to believe that the only way to collect and analyze this data is to write a script that collects and analyzes the data.  Is this true or is there a better way of gathering and reporting this data?  Is this data stored in a table somewhere?

    Hi,
the portal only offers basic monitoring capabilities. But it offers the possibility to create quite extensive logs, like km activity reporting service. What the portal writes to a DB table are the PAR statistics. The quite more extensive KM and ADC data is written to a file.
You can use SolMan to analyze the data. SolMan can gather, analze and write the data into the BI and gives you the basic report.
In the same way, you can use SolMan to gather the data and create your own BI reports. As it can be really hard to collect X logs from Y servernodes, SolMan offers an easy way to collect the different logs.

    Hello
It means what it sais, your J2EE_ADMIN user doesn't have enough authorization.
Chech if the appropriate authorization is assigned in your abap stack which belongs to the java stack you logon to:
Role SAP_J2EE_ADMIN should be assigned to user J2EE_ADMIN.

  • ADS service (XMLForm.exe) Utilizes 30 to 40 % of Java Stack CPU

We are currently on ECC 6 and EP 7.0; we have started using ADS service (Generating buld PDF forms) and we are noticing that it utilizes upto 30% of CPU on the Java stack.
One thing to inform is that we are using the same Java Stack for Portal, BI and R/3.
30% of CPU seems abnormal to me (At the peak of its usage the Portal Performance goes down).
Will this issue get solved if we use a dedicated Java Stack for R/3? Your Thoughts Please.
    Regards,
    Deepak

SAP recommends very accurate (I better say pessimistic) sizing for server running productive ADS.
The best approach is to use standalone server for productive ADS usage.
IMHO, in that case you still can use the same ADS for productive, quality and even development usage.

  • Abap+java stack for Portal 7.0 and MI - User Data Source

The SAP pre-requisites for Portal and MI (Mobile Infrastructure) 7.0 is an ABAP and Java Stack. If you install an AS ABAP + Java, the UME is automatically set up to use the ABAP user management of the same AS installation. What does this mean? The user store will be created in ABAP, for both the Portal and MI.
The impact of this is portal users management is in ABAP. This configuration by design cannot be connected to LDAP Active directory for user authentication.
Please let me know , if some body had already face similar issue and come up with the solution.  Thanks in advance.

  • Adobe Print Services in Java Instance on iSeries

Comment by moderator: An english overview of this thread is given in an answer to this posting.
    Sehr geehrter Herr Hoelters,
wir möchten gerne GTS on System i fahren.
Freigaben Adobe Document Services Datenbank-Plattformen DB2/400...
    freigeg.
    Datenbankversion Betriebssystemversion Datum Status
    DB2/400 V5R3 WINDOWS SERVER 2003/IA32 32BIT 05.12.2005 Freigegeben
    DB2/400 V5R4 WINDOWS SERVER 2003/IA32 32BIT 14.02.2006 Freigegeben
Bedeutet das jetzt das ich die ADS nicht ohne Windows Server nutzen
    kann ?

    Hello.
This question and its answer might be interesting for the non german speaking members of this community, too. So I made a short translation of the discussion. Not in every detail but it should be sufficient to get the idea. If you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask here. For future discussions I would like to encourage all of you to use english as the forum language. The members of this community are distributed all over the world and using english is the only way to get feedback from most of them.
    Now to the question:
Mr Schulz is interested in using GTS on a system i. To use the Adobe Printing Services support in GTS it is necessary to set up a Adobe Document Server (ADS). At the moment ADS does not run natively on system i. The PAM states that ADS runs on DB2/400 using a windows server. SAP Note 925741 suggests to run an additional application server. The question is now if there is no way to run a ADS on a system i without a windows server.
The answer given by Mr Hölters can be outlined as follows:
In fact ADS is not supported under i5/OS. To allow usage of ADS without introducing a second database platform to your system landscape there is a solution given in SAP Note 925741. Instead of having a second NetWeaver installation on a different platform you can add an additional dialog instance to your application server running on system i. If this dialog instance is running under Windows you can install ADS there and don't have to use a second database platform.

    Hi all,

    Sameer,
You can develop forms in your ERP system (ABAP stack) and can still run it without portal. But you will require JAVA stack as Adobe Document Servcies (ADS) can ONLY be configured on JAVA stack.

Windows Servers have the ability to run many desktop PC applications such as SAPGUI and Internet Explorer however it is strongly recommended not to install this software on SAP servers, particularly production servers.

  • JAVA Stack for consuming and providing Services with ABAP?

    Hi Experts,
I would like to know if I need to have a Java Stack when I want to build a Web Application with Web Dynpro Abap and consume Enterprise Services from the Enterprise Service Repository. Additional own created services in ABAP should be provided. Is a Java stack necessary for that? Or is an ABAP Stack enough?
Thanks a lot for your answers?
    Best regards,
    Ingmar

    Hi Ingmar,
You do not need a Java stack to build or run Web Dynpro ABAP application. Web Dynpro ABAP runs on ABAP stack.
Just to consume a web or enterprise service from Web Dynpro ABAP application, or any ABAP application for that matter, you do not need Java stack, either. NetWeaver Application Server contains a component called ICM (Internet Communication Manager) that enables the AS to play both as a service provider as well as a consumer.
The part about consuming Enterprise Services from the ES Repository is more complicated, though.
ES Repository is only a modeling tool. Services are actually implemented  in the respective backend systems and then registered in central Services Registry. So, if the Enterprise Service you want to consume comes from an application that runs on Java stack, although I do not have any example of that handy, then obviously - Java stack is needed. This is irrelevant, however, if your question only pertains to the consumer part.
    I hope this helps.

  • Java Stack for Web Service in R/3

    Hello Friends,
I am developing a Web Service in R/3 server. Developed a RFC and converted it to Web Sevice.
My question is, is it necessarily required to have Java Stack in my server or will it be enough to have ABAP Stack.  My server doesn't have java stack installed. shall i be able to run my Web service with ABAP stack?
Please help me and give me some suggesions.
                            Kumar.

    Hi Kumar,
the above answer is simply incorrect.
You can certainly provide a web service from the ABAP stack without any need for a Java stack.
There are several blogs, and lots of forum posts, that discuss how to do this.
If you have indeed "Developed a RFC and converted it to Web Service" then you are away.
Use transaction SOAMANAGER ( or WSADMIN, WSCONFIG on earlier releases) to publish your webservice and away you go.
