Active content vs popups vs keyboard control
Hi Forum
I am using Dreamweaver 8 to build a web site to display some
interactive art work I made in Flash 8. I used Fireworks 8 to build
a navBar with popups and got that working OK with Dreamweaver, but
the popups would not show in front of my Flash art work (Active
Content). I found the fix for that in this forum's archives -- add
the wmode parameter with a value of opaque for the Flash artwork in
the XHTML, and set the z-index of the Flash Artwork below the
z-index of the navBar in the stylesheet. This worked and I thought
I was home free.
Then I tried to add a page of my Flash artwork that uses the
keyboard arrow keys. If wmode/opaque is present, the scroll bar
intercepts the arrow keys in IE 6 and IE 7. In Firefox, no keyboard
commands work at all. If I take out the wmode/opaque thing, the
keyboard controls work fine in IE 6, 7 and Firefox 2, but the popup
menu cannot be seen.
Is there a way to make everything work? If I went to a
commercial product like Project 7, would that solve all 3 problems?
Thanks.

No, it wouldn't. Redesign the page so the menu doesn't
overlap the flash.

Active Content warning with web player
We have a client who is using our web packaged program from a
CD and they are getting Active Content warnings and they do not
like it. Is there a way to set the active content to run when start
the CD without using the registry? They said something about doing
it through discretionary access control list (DACL) files.I've never heard of DACLs but I think the 'Mark of the Web'
will satisfy
your need? Search it and see...

Active Content when RH topic contains Captivate movies
I use Robohelp to display my captivate movies (published as
FLASH).....since the Active Content issue in the latest IE update,
my users now have to click on the movie before it becomes
interactive.....I've managed to fix the topics in RH that don't
have a movie inserted on them....but if there's a movie, my fix
doesn't work unless I modify EACH htm file (each topic's code).
This works great except that EVERY time I re-compile the RH
project, the fix is overwritten.....
My fix involves a javascript include file......
Thanks.
PamHi again Pam
Hmmm, well I'll see if I can help any. I'm not sure what you
mean with "fixing topics in RH that don't have a movie inserted".
What are you fixing? Why is a fix needed if a movie isn't there?
But on to the actual issue at hand. You are saying that
something is being overwritten? Perhaps it will help to outline the
process as I envision it.
1. You have a topic containing a Captivate movie that is
interactive, meaning the user must click or type somewhere to
interact with it.
2. Before the fix is applied, the user must click or press
the spacebar in order to "activate" the control. This is equivalent
to patting Internet Explorer on the head and saying "It's okay.
Really. The world will, in fact, NOT end if you just show me the
content and allow me to click it."
3. You apply the fix, which means to use an external
JavaScript file (.JS file) to perform a "write in" of the code
needed to present the movie.
4. You generate WebHelp (assuming WebHelp here, as I do not
believe this issue manifests from inside a compiled .CHM file) and
something gets overwritten?
And here is the quandry. I'm assuming you are intent on
asking either how to prevent the overwriting from occurring, or
possibly WHY it's being overwritten. Perhaps both?
I think the first step is to determine if the WebHelp
generation process is actually overwriting files. I'd compare the
HTML code of a topic that works fine prior to genning WebHelp, with
the same topic code after the generation process has occurred. What
has changed with respect to the code you inserted? Is the code just
gone? Or is it possibly an issue whereby the .JS file simply hasn't
survived the WebHelp generation process? I'm guessing the latter.
You may simply need to add the .JS file to baggage.

Active Content and Yellow Bar in IE
Hi there
I recently downloaded a FrontPage template which contains
some active flash content such as a menu and transition images.
Every time I open the web site in IE the yellow security bar
pops up (in Windows XP SP2). But when I visit other sites with
similar active content no bar pops up. When I hover the mouse of
the content the ‘Click to activate and use this
control’ label appears which is ok no problem.
Does anyone know how to prevent the yellow bar from
appearing?
Many thanks!
OptimancHi Jecky!
This site isnt hosted yet, its still in development.
I'll give you more detail about the issue perhaps that can
help;
When the page loads up in IE the HTML and images load fine
now problem but the
main menu content which is .swf remains unloaded. The yeloow
bar pop ups to
allow the blocked content. Once i have unblocked the content
a confirmation box
appears and then the main feature is loaded into IE.
I'm just wondering could it be doing this because its
loading the content
locally, as in from Temp Inter Files but if it was downloaded
from the internet
live this yellow bar would bypassed?
Thanks for you help!

Active content blocker problems
I'm new to all of this, so my question may be fairly basic,
but I'd really appreciate some help.
Whenever I add any behaviour, or add a flash button then
preview in IE6, the content is blocked by Windows. You have to
click on the top of the page to disable this. Is there any way I
can prevent this from happening?
Many thanks
DanThis is a feature in the browser. Allows the viewer more
control over what content they want to see.
There's nothing you can do about it as far as someone else's
machine goes.
Dreamweaver is just a web development tool that helps you
code your webpage. This code is then parsed and executed by the
browser. It is at the browser end that active content is blocked or
allowed etc. Dreamweaver has nothing to do with it at all -
Active Content Update HTML behavior
I am rebuilding all my flash websites to address the
double clicking and framing issue due to MicroSoft's IE ActiveX
controls. I should have done this months ago, but I'm a Mac user
and no one freakin told me. I now also have a Vaio LS1 "very cool".
Anyway I have downloaded and installed the MX extention and figured
that one out, no problem. It has been simple to create swf
conatiners with revised html published form the Flash 8 engine. My
new problems lie in 2 areas, html background tiles and preloaders;
1 – I can't seem to center the swf (no scaling) and put
page tiles in the html that are visible. The only way I seem to be
able to center the swf is the make the html 100% instead of the swf
pixel size. If I go for a transarent window it screws with the
color. I believe I need to put a command in the code that specifies
to add the tile background to the html table that Flash has
created. I just haven't been able to get it to work... Anybody
solve this one?
2 – I have been using 2 preloaders, one that loads the
frames of the movie it is in and the other loads an external movie.
I have not been able to get either of them to work properly accross
the various browsers when I'm using swf containers and the Active
Content Update. I'm totally bug-eyed reading through all the techno
babble published here and on the MSN sites. Anybody got the right
preloader code to load external movies into swf containers (that
recognizes first frame (stop) script) with the Active Content

Active Content Update ruins my Flash Intro
Forum,
I installed the Active Content Update to get rid of the
"Click here to Activate this Content" message during mouseovers on
my Flash Intro.
However, now that the message is gone, I have two problems
that are somehow being controlled by the AC_RunActiveContent.js or
something.
1. The flash is supposed to be centered on the screen, but
instead it's in the upper left. Even the html calls for it to be
middle.
2. The "Skip Intro" and "Sound" controls are gone
Can anybody help me understand what happened and what I need
to do to fix it?
You can see where I'm at by going to: www.imagine1group.com

Active content fix for ad placement?
OK, I've read all about the JS fix for active content but
what do you do if you don't control the HTML container for the
Flash ad. We're new to Flash ad development, will most sites allow
us to include a custom JS script to embed the ad or do they just
take the SWF? If they just take the SWF, how do we address the
active content issue? You complain to whoever hosts the ad .. there is nothing you
can do yourself
.. the host for the ad will have to fix their own html.

Keyboard control in Captivate 8?
Hello, I am new to Captivate. If I have two buttons labeled "Next" and "Back" and have actions assigned to each, Next would be "Go to the next slide" and Back would be "Go to the previous slide" with "Enter" assigned for keyboard control it kind of sort of works (sometimes):
1. Sometimes you will be clicking "Next" and it just mysteriously goes BACK a frame
2. Sometimes you will be clicking "Back" and it just mysteriously goes to the NEXT frame
3. To top it all off, you don't even seem to have to tab to the buttons for the Enter key to be active (which is not right)
Am I doing something wrong or is there something I'm setting/not setting to make this work properly? I have enable accessibility checked in the publishing settings but I'm not exactly sure what that does (maybe make the text on the screen available to a screen reader?).
If Captivate is not keyboard accessible it is NOT accessible.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

What is your project type? Responsive? If so, that's why animation is disabled. Animations are usually built in Flash and Responsive output doesn't "do" Flash.

Targeting SWF via JS with Active Content update
Hi all, I've tried the DW8 forum without success, can anyone
here help please?
I have to upgrade an old site which uses Javascript to
control Flash content. If I allow Dreamweaver 8 to implement the
Active Content code fix for the IE interactivity workaround , the
external javascript controls no longer work.
Can anyone advise what must be changed to allow the external
JS to target the SWF correctly?
Here's an example of the current external JS that triggers an
SWF file OK when clicked.
"window.document.myMovie.Play();"
thanksI use SWFObject to embed the Flash, which fixes the IE
issues, and have no
issues still controlling the movie from JS like you
mentioned.
You can get SWFObject here:

Just a note to Adobe and a fair warning to those using Flash.
The Adobe
Active Content deployment fix seems to be problematic on
complex pages.
That is, any page that contains more than just Flash,
especially other
scripts. We're urging our customers not to use it and urge
Adobe to have
a serious look at this workaround. Strictly in terms of
scripting
protocol, and with respect to code aesthetics, it's an
"interesting"
piece of work and could be responsible for page hangs in some
browsers.

(using 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 MAC MINI, OS X Lion 10.7.5)
I have always felt safer using the keyboard rather than mouse-clicking on search fields etc. (Open Firefox, hit command+L to the URL I want to go to, then hop to next field with TAB key).
Most notably frustrating example is with using Google, this has not worked right for some time. Say that you to start to search for something on google "main page" and then it goes to the search results page... You go to edit your search or type your next search and the cursor is flashing inside (but off center) of the search field and inputting text is not an option. Also you may instictively hit ESC (while in search field) when you are being given suggestions you don't want, and then the cursor moves again to this no-man's land in between fields.
The other KEYBOARD control issue that I have found is this:
Sometimes you cannot Close Window or even Quit Firefox with the usual keyboard shortcut. Usually when a few windows or tabs are open, or when there is some pop-up survey etc. on page. You can usually ALT+TAB to another open program and then back, and then you can close window or application. But that seems really sketchy to me! This happens all the time on major websites. You can go File-> Close Window or File->Quit, but when you use the same keyboard command the file menu just flashes with an "error tone."The TAB key thing was the same in safe mode. Actually I should add/correct, regarding that google search example: when the cursor is in "inbetween fields" positions, actually it lets you type at the END of the text that you had typed in the field (even though the cursor is blinking before the text). and if you "Command A" to replace the text in the search field while cursor in this position, it instead selects all the rest of the text OUTSIDE the field. Just doesn't make any sense. I think this happens with fields on Facebook as well.
That first issue is just very annoying because it comes up every day and I never get used to it. I would be actually be curious to hear from someone whom this DOES NOT happen to.
The 2nd issue I mentioned occurs more randomly, and seems more definately a Firefox issue. (When you can only close a window or quit from the drop down menu with the mouse, Command W and Command Q just give an error beep) -
How Stop Pop-Up Window: Allow Fullscreen With Keyboard Controls?
How can I cause the cessation of the pop-up window that asks me, "Allow fullscreen with keyboard controls?"
In the last month or two (January- February of 2013), this black, semi-transparent pop-up has appeared every time I go to full screen in the game Battle Pirates on facebook.
After numerous iterations, this confirmation request has become completely unneccessary and nothing more than an unwelcome annoyance.Tom,
Moderators have the authority and privilege to mark answers as correct, in addition to the original posters. ANY moderator here could have marked it that way.
The Bug report/Feature Request link is not a "vote" page per say, but a place to submit a request for a feature you'd like to see added or dropped from Flash Player. It's the best way to voice a concern or "wish" for a feature, since the development team reads the reports/requests. Management who'd make the decision to add or remove something won't read about it here. They WILL hear about it from development. -
Pop-Up Menus and active content errors - Help!
I'm attempting to add pop-up menus to my navigation bar, to
make my site more user-friendly, but to no avail:
I've tried designing pop-up menus in Fireworks, then
importing the html code in, but that gives me errors when I try to
insert the bar. Then, I tried putting my menus in different layers,
with a "show layer" behavior on the button, and a "hide layer"
behavior attached to the roll-off of the layer, but my version of
Dreamweaver won't attach a behavior to a layer.
Then, I noticed the tech-note on this site for the fix to use
pop-ups in a template, so I added pop-up menus directly to my
navigational buttons using the wizard. So here's where my problem
comes in. . .
When I preview my page, it throws up an active content error,
but will still run. I uploaded it to my remote server, but when I
went to the url, no action takes place when I put my cursor over
it. Anybody have any ideas on how to create a pop-up menu that
won't throw up an active content error? I've seen them on plenty of
websites before, but can't figure how to do them.
Any light you could shed would be greatly appreciated!> I'm attempting to add pop-up menus to my navigation bar,

Sometimes, they make your site less user-friendly. So be
careful.
The DW/FW pop-up menus are usually something that should be
avoided. They
are very poorly thought out and implemented, and will likely
cause you
continuing problems. It's foolish to devote the time to them
that could be
more effectively be placed elsewhere, especially since there
are better
options that work right out of the box, so to speak. Please
check the free
and commercial options here -

Don't use DW/FW pop-up menus.

"Apply Active Content Update" message ONLY in Firefox

When I view it in IE it looks great. When I view it in
