Active content(white box) frames problem
I downloaded the update to flash to get rid of the white box.
I used it on flash menu for a 2 frame page. Now the menu doesn't
work in the frameset. If I click on the flash menu itself it opens
the link and if I open it on the published page or a single page it
will open the links but when I put it into the framest the button
doesn't do anything. any ideas why this is happening?thanks
PS: For "your scripts" I mean the "activecontent_samples.zip"
on page

All ok for flash 8, don't work for 9 (normal flash are
display correctly then the flash installation is ok)

"Convert Active Content" problem
Recently, I opened an html page in DW8, and a dialogue box
appeared called "Convert Active Content". It said "This page
contains <object> tags that may not work properly in the most
recent versions of Internet Explorer. To correct this problem, you
can convert these tags to browser-safe scripts. Do you want
Dreamweaver to convert these tags for you?" So, being the trusting
soul that I am, I clicked "yes." But when I uploaded my page, I
could not see the Flash videos that I had put in this page. The
same thing happened with another page. So I created new pages, and
clicked on "no" when the "Convert Active Content" dialogue box
appeared, and my Flash videos appear again.
I really would like to avoid the annoying double-clicking
that has to happen with the new IE browser whenever I include Flash
content, but this work-around does not work. Any ideas?
Thanks.You were right to say you wanted DW to "convert these tags to
browser-safe
scripts." What you didn't do was upload the SCRIPTS directory
that DW
created. Try doing that and all should be well.

InDesign CS3 "White Box" when printing with linked Photoshop EPS files
This problem has been covered before, but never really resolved:
Robert Levine, "InDesign CS3 Erratic White Box Phenomenon with Placed Photoshop EPS files" #1, 1 Apr 2008 11:05 am
Now, I'm aware that we should no longer be using EPS files. I wholeheartedly agree. But until we can convince the department to change to another format (namely PSD or TIFF) for our vast library of images, I need a workaround.
It seems that setting the clipping path for each linked image to "Photoshop Clipping Path" resolves this issue. So I tried writing an AppleScript that would find each linked Photoshop EPS and set it's clipping path to "Photoshop clipping path", but it didn't work for me (my expertise with AppleScript is basically nil.)
Can anyone assist with the creation of this script? Or does anyone have a better suggestion for solving or working around the Photoshop EPS erratic white box printing problem?
Thanks!>Why??????????
Because they've got zillions of EPS and have no time to resave them all and because it
b should
work even if Buko doesn't like EPS...
(Your vendetta against EPS takes on strange proportions. Were you bitten as a child by a rabid EPS and have sworn to wipe them out? Must be an interesting story behind it ;) )
Brian, this script seems to do the job with one very important caveat: I see no way of finding out which path is active in the EPS (in case that more than one). So the script simply activates the first in the list.
tell application "Adobe InDesign CS3"
set aDoc to active document
set allLinks to links of aDoc
repeat with n from 1 to (count allLinks)
set aLink to item n of allLinks
if link type of aLink is "EPS" then
set anEPS to parent of aLink
tell clipping path of anEPS
set ePaths to photoshop path names
if (count ePaths) > 0 then
set clipping type to photoshop path
set applied path name to item 1 of ePaths
end if
end tell
end if
end repeat
end tell -
Personal Cinema White Box problem but NOT Macrovision
About 3 times per hour a white box appears in captured video for 5 seconds. It is full width and half height placed centrally in the frame.
Internet research indcates it might be a driver/Macrovision problem but WDM drivers V108 do not fix it and it appears randomly on non-Macrovision TV input and in all my video capture programs.
I've tried clean installs of XP Home/Professional/SP1/SP2 VGA drivers from 4533 to 6681 and WDM drivers from 108 to 223 and I've not been able to fix it. It happens in all capture programs including WinDVR V1 & 3, Ulead DVD Movie Factory.
I can't produce the box "at will" but worst offenders are TV cable box on a digital channel and VCR (home movies) both on the composite input.
I don't believe it is directly macrovision as I CAN capture a DVD (played back through the composite video in) which won't copy onto a VCR.
The symptoms seem so like the reported macrovision problems and it's driving me up the wall that WDM V108 does NOT fix the problem.
Does anybody else have the white box with the WDM108 drivers?
Thanks
Card Bios: 4.34.20.19.01MikeF,
I haven't tried WDM 1.08 because of the code 10 error.
I didn't know if you were aware of this but this same package is marketed by MSI, EVGA and PNY (there may be others as well). My post on the NVidia board has been ignored for days now. I'm in dialogue with a guy from PNY but he has no constructive ideas on how to solve the problem. People have posted our exact problem on the EVGA board as well. There have been no responses. PNY doesn't even have a forum.
The Nvidia Forceware multimedia program that I have to schedule and capture with is beta at best. Way too many bugs and absolutely no update or support in sight. On occasion I build PC's for friends and family and I'm going to include the NVidia 5700 as a graphics card on the next one I build. I'll make no mention of it's other alleged capilbilities. It is an OK graphics card.
I don't fault MSI at all in this, they have to trust that the products coming from NVidia do indeed work as advertised. In this case it doesn't. There are just too many obstacles to overcome at this pace, so I decided to move on to a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR for capturing. My Dell GX270 has onboard video that will be fine for this PC's purpose which is video work only.
The one thing that I've learned is to stay away from NVidia products, there are other vendors who make products that have been fully tested and hopefully supported well. I don't feel much like being part of NVidia's beta program any longer.
To Glenn: Thank you sir for your responses. Of the various avenues that I've pursued you were the ONLY one who provided good suggestions and feedback. Even though it didn't work out (yet) thanks for trying.
I'll be checking back in from time to time to see when and if this gets resolved.

I have a tiled background image but sometimes the white box only covers half the content and my tiled image is displayed under the other half of the content... Do I have to manually make the box for each page or is there a way to attach it to both the header and footer so it expands depending on how much content is on each page while retaining my background image in only the border areas?
Muse doesn't have that specific feature. However, in may cases the desired effect can be achieved by inverting how you think about it.
Using a 100% with rectangle with a fill image for your header and another for your footer, that leaves the page fill and/or background fill image to grow and shrink to fill he space between your header and footer. If you only want one column of your page design to have this effect, you may be able to achieve that using a vertically repeating background fill image for the page or browser fill (where the fill is a horizontal band the with color only where you want the vertical column to appear. -
Hi,
Acrobat xi - RE: Add sound icon- skin displayed is a 'blank white box' until it is clicked to activate it- can you lock skin to display before its activated so that in a print run the skin shows up (ie the controls-or any kind of greyed out rectangle, like video controls before 1st activation) and not the blank white box- if no, I guess I have to activate all sound icons before doing a print run?thanks)).Many of your points are totally legitimate.
This one, however, is not:
…To put it another way, the design of the site seems to be geared much more towards its regular users than those the site is supposedly trying to "help"…
The design and management of the forums for more than five years have driven literally dozens of the most valuable contributors and "regulars" away from the forums—permanently.
The only conclusion a prudent, reasonable person can draw from this state of affairs is that Adobe consciously and deliberately want to kill these forums by attrition—without a the PR hit they would otherwise take if they suddenly just shut them down. -
Workaround for IE active content problem?
Adobe
posted
a workaround for existing web pages to respond to the change in
IE that requires users to manually activate Flash content. I tried
doing the same document.write in an external file for the HTML
files FlashHelp generates wherever I found the <object> and
<embed> tags, but I get a script error ("Object expected") in
the lines where I call the function. (The solution worked for me in
simple HTML pages with Captivate movies, so I know it can work.)
The only reason I can think of that it won't work is that the
scripts are concatenating strings, not just showing a movie where
the <object> and <embed> tags are. Has anyone found a
workaround for FlashHelp so users don't have to manually activate
the top and left panes? I put in a "wish" for Adobe to provide a
solution on the site and later in an update or new version of
RoboHelp (which is another issue in and of itself), but who knows
when the developers will be able to come up with it. Thanks!Thanks for asking, Mimi. Here are more specific steps:
1. Open Notepad or another program for creating text files.
2. Create two functions. For example:
function insertMaster1() {
function insertMaster2() {
You can call your functions anything you want, but the names
must be different. Note that for the moment, they're empty, but
we'll change that in a minute.
3. Save the Notepad file with a JS file extension (for
example, runactive.js). In Notepad, specify “All Files”
for “Save as type” so that it doesn’t save as a
TXT.
4. When you generate your FlashHelp system, it creates a
bunch of HTM files containing JavaScript in the destination folder
you specified when generating your output. Locate wf_master.htm and
wf_navpane.htm in the output folder. (If you leave RoboHelp to use
its defaults, it puts your help system in an !SSL!/FlashHelp
directory within your project folder.)
5. Open wf_master.htm.
6. In the <head> tags, insert a line that references
your JS file:
<script language=“JavaScript”
src=“runactive.js”></script>
7. Find the lines in the code that look like this:
// Insert the “Master” SWF
8. Highlight everything AFTER this commented-out block until
the </script> tag. The last thing you highlight should be
"document.write(strObject);".
9. Cut the highlighted code and paste it into the first
function in your JS file so it looks like this:
function insertMaster1() {
// Build up the variable string we will be sending
strFlashVars = "uniqueHelpID=" + parent.UniqueID();
……(more code)
document.write(strObject);
10. In the place where you just cut all that code out of
wf_master.htm, insert a call to the function:
insertMaster1();
That’s all you need because all that code you just
moved was already in <script> tags in the HTM file. The
</script> tag should come immediately after this function
call.
11. Open wf_navpane.htm.
12. Repeat steps 6 – 10 for wf_navpane.htm. The code
we’re concerned with in this file looks almost exactly like
that in wf_master.htm, but there are a few lines less this time.
Put the code you take out of wf_navpane.htm into the second
function in your JS file. Where you cut out the code from
wf_navpane.htm, put a call to the second function (it should come
right before the end of the <script> tags):
insertMaster2();
13. Save your JS file and the two HTM files.
14. Whenever you re-generate your output, RoboHelp is going
to erase your new versions of these HTM files and create its own
again. Copy your new versions of wf_master.htm and wf_navpane.htm
to another location (can be a folder within your output folder).
Now you have them so you can paste them back over RoboHelp’s
versions each time you finish generating your output. For example,
I would stow my wf_master.htm and wf_navpane.htm in a folder called
"drop files." Then, after I get done generating my output, I copy
those files and paste them in the output folder, letting them save
over the ones that RoboHelp created.
15. To test it once you've finished the swap, find the HTM
file in your output folder that is named after your project. For
example, if my project is called flying_monkey, I would find
flying_monkey.htm. Open this HTM file in Internet Explorer, and you
shouldn’t have any messages telling you that you have to
press Enter or Spacebar or click on the panes to activate them.
This runs from the same basic idea as Adobe’s
workarounds for Flash—we’re going to a file external to
the HTM files for the active content tags. Hope you find this
useful! Let me know if you run into any problems.

Spry menu problem in IE- showing as white box
Help please. My spry menus are showing as a white box in Internet Explorer. All other browsers are fine. I am a newbie and don't know how to fix the problem. http://harmonized.harmonized-design.com.
I recreated your web page and it's working for me:
http://www.elanwebservices.com/example/index.htm
If you look at page in IE8, I think you will see your navigation links without the white block. I just looked at your page again and I am still seeing the navigation ID. You try detaching your template from the page. I think DW templates are a bad idea; they cause all kinds of problems.
If my link works and yours doesn't, compare the code. -
Dreamweaver CS4 flv problem / white box
Hello-
I have a very simple HTML page. I have a very small flv file:
271kb. Following the instructions I embed the .flv file:
INSERT>MEDIA>FLV
and the following code is generated by Dreamweaver CS4:
<object
classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="640"
height="360" id="FLVPlayer">
<param name="movie" value="FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf"
/>
<param name="quality" value="high" />
<param name="wmode" value="opaque" />
<param name="scale" value="noscale" />
<param name="salign" value="lt" />
<param name="FlashVars"
value="&MM_ComponentVersion=1&skinName=Clear_Skin_1&streamName=MatteFLASH& ;autoPlay=false&autoRewind=false"
/>
<param name="swfversion" value="8,0,0,0" />
<!-- This param tag prompts users with Flash Player 6.0
r65 and higher to download the latest version of Flash Player.
Delete it if you don’t want users to see the prompt. -->
<param name="expressinstall"
value="Scripts/expressInstall.swf" />
<!-- Next object tag is for non-IE browsers. So hide it
from IE using IECC. -->
<!--[if !IE]>-->
<object type="application/x-shockwave-flash"
data="FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf" width="640" height="360">
<!--<![endif]-->
<param name="quality" value="high" />
<param name="wmode" value="opaque" />
<param name="scale" value="noscale" />
<param name="salign" value="lt" />

value="&MM_ComponentVersion=1&skinName=Clear_Skin_1&streamName=MatteFLASH& ;autoPlay=false&autoRewind=false"
/>
<param name="swfversion" value="8,0,0,0" />
<param name="expressinstall"

alt="Get Adobe Flash player" /></a></p>
</div>
<!--[if !IE]>-->
</object>
<!--<![endif]-->
</object>
The flv will NOT play in either browser. White Box Syndrome.
So I go to
http://freevideocoding.com
and get their code, as follows:
<embed src="
http://freevideocoding.com/flvplayer.swf?file=http://www.undisclosedstudio.com/MatteFLASH. flv&autoStart=false"
width="640" height="360" quality="high"
type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="
http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"></embed>
And my flvs PLAY JUST FINE. But they are old school.
How can I get Dreamweaver CS4 to embed these flvs so they
will play in browsers?
Please help! I'm stumped.
http://www.undisclosedstudio.comThis is still an issue as of August 20, 2009. I get the white box in both the testing server and the remote server. I tried the CS3 version of FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf to no avail. It does not work in either Firefox or IE. Running CS4 on Vista based PC.
Has anyone made any progress in fixing this?

Hide the white space behind active content when first loads.
Hello,
Is there an elegant way to mask the 'hole' in a website where
it is waiting momentarily before it loads active content? I have a
Flash video player on a site against a dark background. But when
the page loads, the area for the video is bright white while the
rest of the screen is dark. It's mostly an aesthetic thing, but if
there's a way to tame it I'd like to try.
Thanks,
TomHere's what I had in a sample page I made. You can see where
I added that code at the end of that big, long, ugly list of
parameters being fed to the AC_FL_RunContent() function.
<body>
<script type="text/javascript">
AC_FL_RunContent( 'codebase','

'flashvars','&MM_ComponentVersion=1&skinName=Halo_Skin_3&streamName=Classic&autoPlay=false &autoRewind=false',
'quality','high','scale','noscale','name','FLVPlayer','salign','lt','pluginspage','
http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer',
'movie','FLVPlayer_Progressive','bgcolor','#000000' ); //end
AC code

Active content blocker problems
I'm new to all of this, so my question may be fairly basic,
but I'd really appreciate some help.
Whenever I add any behaviour, or add a flash button then
preview in IE6, the content is blocked by Windows. You have to
click on the top of the page to disable this. Is there any way I
can prevent this from happening?
Many thanks
DanThis is a feature in the browser. Allows the viewer more
control over what content they want to see.
There's nothing you can do about it as far as someone else's
machine goes.
Dreamweaver is just a web development tool that helps you
code your webpage. This code is then parsed and executed by the
browser. It is at the browser end that active content is blocked or
allowed etc. Dreamweaver has nothing to do with it at all -

Our company still uses FrameMaker 5.5. I'm having an art issue. We put color in the background (on the master page). All art that is linked in the flow of the book has a white box around it. All of the art is Illustrator lineart saved as an eps. Is there a way to get rid of the white box that comes in as the same height and width as the art?
Ex - So if you have a 1' blue circle when it is imported in FrameMaker it shows up as a 1' square with a blue circle in it.Can't test with 5.5, don't see this problem in 7.1.
Are you seeing the problem in print or in final PDF?
Preview images of imports, while editing, are commonly opaque rectangles.
Are the anchoring frames set to fill none, pen none?
If the imported content is raster EPS, does it have a clipping path around the perimeter of the object? If so, be sure to select the object in Frame, and set pen none.
Vector EPS is usually transparent automatically. -
White Boxes at the Top of iPhone 5 Screen. What to do?
Just activated my new iPhone 5 (64GB). After migrating the data from my previous iPhone I noticed a line of bright boxes at the top of the screen.
The stripes are quite faded if the screen has been off for a few minutes, but then get brighter, which makes me think "hardware problem." But look at the botom right frame. Sometimes the black bar showing reception, time, and battery status overlaps the white boxes and displays just fine. Which says "software." Has anybody else experienced this? Rebooting the phone didn't solve the issue (as you can see in the top right frame).Yeah, that's my feeling, too. I have a Genius Bar appointment set up. I'm still hoping for a fix that doesn't involve the trip (and doesn't depend on availability of the correct replacement unit.)

Pop-Up Menus and active content errors - Help!
I'm attempting to add pop-up menus to my navigation bar, to
make my site more user-friendly, but to no avail:
I've tried designing pop-up menus in Fireworks, then
importing the html code in, but that gives me errors when I try to
insert the bar. Then, I tried putting my menus in different layers,
with a "show layer" behavior on the button, and a "hide layer"
behavior attached to the roll-off of the layer, but my version of
Dreamweaver won't attach a behavior to a layer.
Then, I noticed the tech-note on this site for the fix to use
pop-ups in a template, so I added pop-up menus directly to my
navigational buttons using the wizard. So here's where my problem
comes in. . .
When I preview my page, it throws up an active content error,
but will still run. I uploaded it to my remote server, but when I
went to the url, no action takes place when I put my cursor over
it. Anybody have any ideas on how to create a pop-up menu that
won't throw up an active content error? I've seen them on plenty of
websites before, but can't figure how to do them.
Any light you could shed would be greatly appreciated!> I'm attempting to add pop-up menus to my navigation bar,

Sometimes, they make your site less user-friendly. So be
careful.
The DW/FW pop-up menus are usually something that should be
avoided. They
are very poorly thought out and implemented, and will likely
cause you
continuing problems. It's foolish to devote the time to them
that could be
more effectively be placed elsewhere, especially since there
are better
options that work right out of the box, so to speak. Please
check the free
and commercial options here -

Don't use DW/FW pop-up menus.
