ActiveX and TestStand

Well I just finished CVI training and have been working TestStand for about a year. I guess this query could have been sent in CVI as well as TestStand. We discussed briefly how ActiveX kind of works. I have the TestStand and CVI manuals and other literature, but what about ActiveX. If I'm to do ActiveX work within TestStand or CVI, what text or manual can someone recommend that discusses ActiveX?

Problems with ActiveX and an IRtrans-modul

Hello,
I have a problem with an IRtrans-USB-modul. This is a modul for learning or sending infrared commands.
The modul is connecting to the USB-port and supports ActiveX and .NET protocols.
I have registered the ocx-library with the command regsvr32 and in LabVIEW I have the selection for the ActiveX-class.
But when I use a method and will send or learn a command I get the
failure: Exception occured in Winsock, wrong protocol or connection
status for the prompted transaction or demand. Help path in
MSWNSK98.chm and context 1040006 in Unbenannt1.
With the supplied software from the manufactor the modul is working fine.
Somebody is using this as well? Or somebody could help me with this problem?

I've installed the software for the IRtrans module. Unfortunately, I can't start a server, because for this I have to connect this module.
If You can select the methods of the IRtrans objects in LabVIEW, the activex connection should be OK. Make sure, that You use the right parameters and the right data types.

LV producer consumer and TestStand

In the TestStand process model, I've replaced the original Get UUT Serial Number dialog with a custom dialog that has some additional fields, and will (eventually) allow the operator to BarCode scan the serial number.
I'm thinking about using LabVIEW's template for Producer/Consumer. I basically want to allow the user to hang out at this dialog until the click on either "START" or "CANCEL". They can tab to the different fields, and Scan in the serial number if desired. What types of 'events' would I want to capture? Is this even the right design pattern for this situation?
Also, this dialog needs to be modal (in front of TestStand executive).
Thoughts?

By custom dialog do you mean a seperate VI that you open and show the front panel when the step executes?
If that is the case the producer consumer might be overkill. From what I've seen one of the main reasons one would use this pattern is to seperate the acquisition loop from the data record loop. In that manner the data recording doesn't slow down the data acquisition. I've used a wedge type barcode scanner in the past and it is pretty easy to impliment.
On a side note I really enjoy reading your posts on both of the forum boards. I too at some later date will be creating a custom operator interface using LabView and your questions have been really helpful in my formulation of a plan. Thanks

I uninstalled Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX and Adobe Flash Player Plugin thinking they would be reinstalled together when I installed the latest version of Adobe Flash Player.
Now I only see the entry for Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX 10.2.159.1 listed in - Uninstall or change a program.
I was wondering how to get the Adobe Flash Player Plugin?

I originally uninstalled Flash Player 10 ActiveX and the Flash Player Plugin
thinking they would both be reinstalled with the newer version. When I installed
the newer version of Flash Player 10 ActiveX I noticed the Plugin was missing
and wondered what happened to it. I didn't know it needed to be downloaded
seperatly and I also didn't know what it was for exactly. As it is right now
everything works and since I'm not using any other browser - downloading
the Plugin isn't required. At least now I have an idea what the Plugin it was
intended for and know it's not needed.

ActiveX and PlugIn Flashplayer both installed - only ActiveX updates automatically

I'm responsible for a bunch of Windows computers including some at a non-profit where we have both IE and Firefox (as well as Chrome) installed. Consequentially we have both the ActiveX and PlugIn versions of Flashplayer installed. It seems that the Flashplayer automatic updates only update the ActiveX version and not the PlugIn version. This has been going on for a long time including on Windows 7. Is there any fix for this? Or at the very least is there a way to switch the order so that the PlugIn Flashplayer gets updated rather than the ActiveX version?
Edit: To be clear, most of the computers are probably set to "Notify Me To Install New Updates" but only the new ActiveX version gets installed. Even if the computer is set to allow Adobe to install updates only the new ActiveX version gets installed.

For the Background Updates ('Allow Adobe to install Updates (recommended)' option), both players are updated, however, the Activex version is updated first and then about an hour later the Plugin is updated.
For the Notification Updates ('Notify me to install updates' option), Flash Player checks for an update when Flash content is played. If an update is available, it creates a registry entry that then launches the Update Notification window when the system is rebooted or the user logs off/on. In this scenario, whichever version of Flash Player (Activex or Plugin) was in use during the check is the one that creates the registry entry and is the one that is updated. I know this isn't ideal, however, this is legacy functionality and has been this way for a very long time. Unless you've modified the update check interval, the default is 7 days.
Since you indicate the Plugin is not being updated via Background Updates, I'd like to look at the FlashInstall.log file on an impacted machine. Unfortunately, Background Updates don't write to the log file unless verbose logging is enabled (which you most likely don't have configured), but I may still be able to glean some information from the current log file on the system. Please provide the log file from an impacted machine using the instructions here, How to share a document.
To enable Background Update verbose logging, add the following to the mms.cfg file: SilentAutoUpdateVerboseLogging=1. Background Updates checks for an update once per day, so if you enable this today, it should contain related information within a day or so, depending on when the Background Update task is actually configured to execute on impacted machines.

Sqlite AND teststand

Anybody used SQLite and TestStand? I have been able to get my table created by running the sql statements for the generic sql database. However, when I run, I get the error "no such table as UUT_Result" which is there when I "View Data" from the database configuration dialog box. I do have a connection set up in windows odbc admin. I think its not really connecting, though I do get a "succeded" dialog when I test the connection. I'm unsure about the "database management system" option. I have chosen SQL Server because nothing else seems closer. Also, how is a stored procedure different than a SQL command in the schemas? Is one better than another? I can get MSAccess to work however I am not allowed to use this due to customer requests. My other option is MYSQL which costs $500 per for commercial use. SQLite is totally free. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for contacting National Instruments regarding the use of databases with TestStand.
My recommendation to you at this time is to upgrade to the free version of MySQL which can be found by following this link. My assumption is that you were referring to the $595 /year cost for MySQL Enterprise edition but never found the link to MySQL Community edition. The TestStand Database Management System does not include built-in support for SQLite.

Problems with activeX and native

Hello SDN Community,
i use NW04S SP11, NWDS 7.0.11 and Adobe LifecycleDesigner 7.1.
I want to generate an Interactive Form with WebDynpro for Java only for Printing and Saving. Also I don't want to display the document in the browser so I set the displayType to activeX, because this isn't possible with native (ZCI). I have also installed the Active Component Framework. But when I deploy the application with activeX and start the application the Form is not displayed and the AcroRd32.exe runs with 98% in the TaskManager. When I deploy the Application with displayType native, the document is displayed but I can't save and open the document (Adobe Reader 8.0.0).
I hope that anybody can help me. It's very urgent.

ActiveX, and Downloads Save Folder

So I'm using Safari 3.0.4 Beta on the Windows version. Is there anyway you can install an ActiveX plug-in? Some of my friends' kids come over to watch videos on http://cartoonnetwork.com/video but in the Safari for Windows browser, you cannot?
And can I request a feature? Can you make the downloads save folder to anything, like instead of just a specific folder, you can download something (for example, a image.png) and save it to a choosen folder everytime? Also may it be possible to search from the Search bar AND the address bar (just type something for example: "define bbcode" (without quotes) into the address bar and it'll use your default search engine to find it.

C++ Builder and Teststand Engine

After several questions and answers in your forum I finally imported successfully the TestStand Engine ActiveX in my loved Borland C++ Builder, but I couldn�t use the version 6, I used an older version (BCB4). It works fine.

To start developing an O.I. in BCB4 I'm using the Dephi Operator interface example code as a guide line and a simple example code for CVI to understand witch are the basic steps to run a sequence.
Everything seems ok, for example I can easily access the Login/Logout callback, or display TS dialog boxes (Station Options...ecc.), or iterate through sequence steps to extract execution entry points.
Next target is run a simple sequence, but something fails when I call the NewExecution method.
The prototype in the TS_OCX.cpp file should be:

First of all, I cannot use the short version of NewExecution method, even if in the API user guide and in the func.prototype "sequenceArgsParam", "editArgsParam" and "InteractiveArgsParam" are marked as optional, that�s because the compiler cannot find the right prototype.
In this case "sequenceArgsParam", "editArgsParam" and "InteractiveArgsParam" are all Variant type, so I'm trying to pass an empty parameter to them, that's just to use all parameters in the function call.
I tried all solutions I know, but I think that TNoParam() is the simplest I can use. TNoParam() class returns a Variant type witch sets vt member = VT_ERROR, just like in CVI example (CA_DEFAULT_VAL).
No way out.
I get a run-time error message when I call The NewExecution method (Error:-17500) = TS_Err_OperationFailed in API user guide.
Solving this problem is really important for me, because it�s the last thing (I hope..) I need to do to complete a simple Borland C++ Builder TestStand operator interface example.

ActiveX and pie chart problem

I am trying to create a bar of pie chart in Excel 2003. I am able to insert my data and create the chart, but I need to set the "SplitValue" to 6. I was able to find the property for doing this but I get an error when I run the vi (see attached). Any thoughts?

I think your problem is that you don't have "Index" wired for the ChartGroups property. Thus, it may be returning a collection of chart groups, but you are typecasting it to a single chart group.

RV320 SSL VPN ActiveX and Virtual Passage driver on Windows 7 64-bit

Hi,
My company has just purchased a new RV320 router and only afterwards found out from the release notes that there are issues with the SSL VPN in this unit and other small business routers. Is there any news on when these issues will be fixed?
1) ActiveX controls have expired certificate dated 24/9/14 - this prevents them from running unless without changing IE security settings to prompt or allow unsigned controls, which is a big security risk.
2) ActiveX controls do not work on Windows 64-bit. Release notes state Windows 7 IE10 and Windows 8.1 IE11, however they also fail on Windows 7 IE11. Even adding router to Trusted Sites to force 32-bit mode results in error message stating that IE is required for the controls.
3) Virtual Passage driver will not install - crashes IE10/IE11 with a BEX violation. From a dig around the web it appears that the Netgear SRX5308 uses the same Cavium chipset and a Virtual Passage driver that works with Windows 7 64-bit, and installs fine using IE10/11 (and if you install the Netgear driver it works with the Cisco RV routers too, proving that the driver is fully compatible...) - if Netgear can get this working, why can't Cisco?
I've only just started setting us this router and show stopper issues like this might end up with an RMA being requested as it appears to be unsuitable for purpose, already run into other issues with I've posted about. :(
EDIT: Got (2) sort of working on IE11 - seems that the Cisco interface is specifically looking for old style IE user agent strings, so using developer tools to set the user agent to IE9, and changing security settings in Trusted Sites to prompt for unsigned controls (due to issue (1)), allows the controls to install and load. These issues are pretty simple to fix, requiring just a string check change and updated signed controls. Fingers crossed these are fixed in the new firmware due soon, awaiting response from Cisco support to my open ticket.
Looks like (3) is prevented from working by (1), and also because the certificate has expired it is treated as software without a valid publisher which cannot be installed in Windows 7 without fiddling in the registry. Releasing an updated version with a certificate that isn't expired should solve that issue too.
These are ridiculously simple fixes to push out, I can't believe a major hardware vendor like Cisco hasn't already solved these issues.

I've had a reply from Cisco support regarding this issue, and it's a bleak outlook. This is a copy from the email I received:
"Engineering has no plans to support SSL VPN on RV32x due to chipset limitations. Pretty much, it will work for old XP and Win7 32-bits."
So Cisco are falsely advertising that the RV320 has SSL VPN capabilities when there are no plans to update it so that it works with 64-bit Windows (which is now the major install base for Windows as most new systems are 64-bit based), and as the certificates have expired in the SSL VPN components they are not even useable on 32-bit systems without overriding a number of security settings.

PLC application validation using OPC and teststand

I want to test a PLC application using teststand as script generator. My idea is to use TestStand to generate testcases and verify answer (read status variables, tags)
from the PLC to confirm its code meet requirements.
So question is, can TestStand read ad write PLC tag variables, using an OPC server ?
Did anybody else use this strategy before ?

For your information, there is a new TestStand Add-on "OPC DA Connect" which adds a StepType Palette dedicated to OPC Data Access.
You can configure each step by browsing the OPC servers on your network and browsing variables within these servers.
This toolkit has free deployment licence.

What are the current versions of Labview and Teststand

Hello,
i am currently downlading the current versions of teststand and labview for evaluation.
In the Teststand-link i saw that it is called "Teststand 2012".
1. But there was no version-information in the Labview-Download. Is this also version 2012?
2. Are both things 32-bit-software?
3. After i installed the evaluation-downloads - can they be activated with a key or do i have to install it again when the CDs arrive in my office?

You can have both the 32-bit and 64-bit installed. Just remember your target when you build an exe. 64-bit compiled programs can only run on 64-bit machines.
You should have no problem upgrading your code from 8.5.
