Activex events not seen in Labview

I have PC application which has a COM server interface included.
I am able to connect to this successfully with labview for everything apart from events. When I try and connect to events it always comes back with error 95, event unknown. I have also tried the "list events descriptions" and that comes back empty.
The COM server works fine when used with VB and C++ applications so I am guessing Labview is the problem.
I am using a Automation Refnum control to access the COM server and this is working fine.
Any suggestions why I can not see any events in Labview?
(I am running Labview 6.0.2)

Thanks for the reply. I just tried an evaluation copy of Labview 7.0 and managed to get it working with the new feature "Register Event Callback".
I would still like to use Labview 6.0.2 if possible as I don't believe I will use most of the new features in Labview 7.0 and 7.1. Also we have alot of version 6 licenses that will cost alot of money to upgrade!
Any suggestions how I can get 6.0 working with events?
Thanks,
Matthew

    Hi,
Event registration occurs when an event loop is activated. If your event
loop is activated before your SO is ready and registered (Init must be
finished) the event loop will be not registered for the event on your SO.
This is a typical example of race condition. A race condition may occur when
two or more processes execute simultaneously and the final result depends on
which process finishes first. Please redesign your project.

I have two classes & an SO in a given project.
    ManagerClass : object
    InterfaceClass : object
    ManagerSO : ManagerClass
    ManagerClass has the attribute
    theInterfaceClass : InterfaceClass
    InterfaceClass has the attribute
    theManagerClass : Manager Class
The ManagerClass Init method performs a new on
theInterfaceClass and then does a start task on a
method within theInterfaceClass which starts an
external connection listening on a port.
    The method also sets theInterfaceClass.theManagerClass
    to ManagerSO.
A method gets called in the ManagerClass which writes
to the external connection port within the
theInterfaceClass and then starts an event loop in the
    ManagerClass to wait for notification.
When the started task for listening on the external
connection receives data, it calls a method within the
    ClassManager - theClassManager.CallMethod(returndata);
The CallMethod actually posts an event within the
ClassManager which the event loop started earlier is
    waiting on.
The event does get posted, however, the event loop
that was started never receives the event?!?!?
There are no lower level event loops that
should trap this event prior to this point.
The call to perform the "write" on the external
connection is done as a postregister in the event
loop, so that the event is registered before a post
    for the event occurs.
    Am I missing something here?
Thanks in advance for any light you might shed.

    Check if ManagerSO = ManagerSO.theInterfaceClass.theManagerClass
Why does InterfaceClass call a methon the the SO? Why doesn't it simply post
its own event, that the SO is registered for?

  • Midi Read Control not seen in LabView 8.2-- speedy-33

    Hi All,
The document LV DSP Module Release and Upgrade Notes on http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/371298c.pdf  says that it is possible to read MIDI files with LV and play them on Speedy 33. After installing 3rd party tools Midi Yoke and Midi OX, it is said that the LV should be able to read MIDI data. Specifically, the following is noted in the doc.
"MIDI Read—Appears as a custom numeric control in a front panel window. This control works with the MIDI-OX software. The MIDI Read control reads MIDI data for any MIDI file the MIDI-OX
software plays. The output of the MIDI Read control is an array of five notes that represent the musical content of a MIDI file that MIDI-OX generates."
I have Labview 8.2, XP as the O/S, and Speedy-33 as my DSP Platform. I have installed everything correctly, everything seems to be working fine, however, this MIDI read control is not seen in the control menu. Why I am not able to see this control, where is it? Could this control be only specific to LabView 8.5 because the above document seems to be referring to LabView 8.5?
Thank you very much for any input!

  • It seems that NI dropped the Activex Events from the Control Panel in LabVIEW 7.0. Why???

I have Labview 6.0/6.1 Activex vi's that no longer work in LabView 7.0 There are no longer ActiveX Events vi's in the Communications->ActiveX control set. What is the deal with that??? Pretty much makes my $2400 upgrade investment worth nothing as far as I can see.

    kup,
Are you sure that your VIs no longer work? They should. The support VIs are located in "vi.lib\Platform\ax-events.llb". The functionality was not taken away, the VIs were simply removed from the function palette. Also, ActiveX Events may now also be handled using calback VIs. This is much better, IMO. Seach the examples for "ActiveX" and "callback".

  • Workitem not seen in inbox but event is triggered in transaction SWEL.

    Hi,
I have created a workflow to create and display a material master using transaction MM01.
My event (created) is getting triggerd when I am creating a material but the same is not seen in my business Workplace.
In display event trace i am able to trace my event and the corresponding workflow.
    My business object is BUS1001006.
I am creating a material from MM01 and the workitem is not seen in the inbox.
Can you provide solution for this?
    Nitya

    Hi,
In workflow log  you have option to see the agent list for the workitem.
1.check possible agent for task of that workitem.
2.check the resposble agent for the task of that workitem.
Check the agent list for the workitem in workflow log, if you do not  find a agent list ,check whether agents has authorization for transaction code mm01  or not.
    if its useful reward points.
    Thanks,

  • ActiveX event queue in Labview 7.0

I've acquired an Ortec toolkit with ActiveX controls and am trying to
follow the procedures shown in the manual for handling ActiveX
events.  The manual tells me to add 'Create ActiveX Event Queue
node', "Wait on ActiveX Event Node' and 'Destroy ActiveX Event Queue
node' to my vi.  The problem is, the manual was written for
Labview 5.1, and I have Labview 7.0, which no longer uses these
nodes.  Instead, LV 7 uses the 'Register Event Callback Node'.  Can anyone tell me how to alter the attached vi to use the Register Event Callback Node instead of event queueing?

  • ActiveX Events

    Hello,
I am using a COM dll server (USBIO in attachment) from LABView. This is only a COM server and NOT an activeX control. I have successfully managed calling its methods and properties (with the activeX "Invoke node" and "Property node"). But now I have been trying to use its events call-back functions. I tried to "list events description" from the ActiveX menu. But this function doesn't list anything.
Does normally the ActiveX "list events description" function success with a dll COM server ?
I know that this COM server can be accessed from Visual Basic (properties, methods, AND EVENTS). I have read in the forum that I probably have to write a wrapper dll to encapsulate the events call, or perhaps writing an activeX control in Visual Basic.
    D
    o you know
    - how difficult these are ?
    - What are the principal steps to manage these ?
Thank you very much for your reading.

    Pierre_a,
Multiple posting of the same question is not likely to result in an answer. The die-hard experienced regular posters of this forum are volunteers and rarely do not answer a question that they know the answer to. I have attached links to your other postings so that the volunteer that decides to help can have access to all of the information.

In my opinion the answer to your first question is that it will be very difficult to create wrappers for COM dll servers. I do not have the slightest idea how to go about doing this and I have used LabVIEW intensively for years. Because I am ignorance of COM dll servers, I recommend digging through the web in the slight chance that someone else encountered a similar problem and was kind enough to publish their efforts.
Finally, you mentioned that you read in the forum that I probably have to write a wrapper dll
. Can you provide a link so that others can understand more about the potential solution?

  • The apexafterrefresh event not being fired in Chart IR's

    Hi all,
I am adding additional functionality to IR reports using the plug-in architecture in Apex 4.1.1. A Dynamic action has been added to the "After Refresh" event for the #apexir_WORKSHEET_REGION jQuery selector.
This works fine in all cases except when no data is found in the report. This has been fixed in 4.2 so I can live with this until the upgrade. However, it also does not work when a chart is created in the report, the apexafterrefresh event does not get raised. Therefore my dynamic action will not fire. Looking at the apex_interactive_reports_4_1.js this event gets raised for the table element with an ID stored in apexir_WORKSHEET_ID ie:
apex.jQuery('#' + $v("apexir_WORKSHEET_ID")).trigger('apexafterrefresh', that.report_id);However this table element does not get rendered when a Chart is displayed and therefore the apexafterrefresh will not get raised.
In apex 4.2 the widget.interactiveReport.js has been modified to handle the no data found but not charts:
    var lTriggeringElement$, lWorksheetId;
                            lWorksheetId = $v( "apexir_WORKSHEET_ID" );
                            if ( $x( lWorksheetId ) ) {
// If the table element containing data exists (ie when the report returns rows),
// use that to trigger the event.
                                lTriggeringElement$ = apex.jQuery( '#' + lWorksheetId );
                            } else {
// Otherwise, use the span holding the no data found message.
                                lTriggeringElement$ = apex.jQuery( '#apexir_NO_DATA_FOUND_MSG' );
lTriggeringElement$.trigger( 'apexafterrefresh', that.report_id );I have created a test case on apex.oracle.com - http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=41357:1 In this example I simply display an alert from a Dynamic action with the following attributes:
    Event - After Refresh
    Selection Type - Region
    Region - Interactive Report
As can be seen when the user navigates to the report the alert displays, however when you navigate to the Chart the alert does not display.
In my mind this is a bug and the IR reports JavaScript should be modified to raise the event apexir_WORKSHEET DIV Element instead. This would fix both issues.
Any ideas on how to overcome this issue?
    Thanks
    Chris.

For everyone's information Bug 16029272 - ALERT (APEXAFTERREFRESH EVENT) NOT BEING FIRED IN CHART OF INTERACTIVE REPORTS has been raised regarding this issue.

  • Copy of task TS50000075 and  EXTSRV - termination event not working

    Hi,
We have done copy of TS50000075 and extended business object EXTSRV to ZEXTSRV
this was done to call function module ISR_CALL_FOR_CHANGE to open up adobe form in edit mode
it works well but the task is not terminated
if termination event is put just like TS50000075 like WIOBJECT, ZEXTSRV COMPLETED then workitem never ends and always stays in inbox
ZEXTSRV COMPLETED event is not triggered when the workitem is completed in the UWL
even if we trigger this event programatically , it does not find receiver and the task stays in-process
if termination event is put as _WORKITEM PROCESSED then it bahves like synchronous task ie even if the workitem is clicked and form is not completed, the workitem ends. so the user can click it only once
    also i've tried following
1 - used the function module to complete the workitem in QISR BADI. but the workitem ID is not available inthe BADI. If I try to export it from business object method and import in BADI, it doesnt work
2 - find active workflows and derive workitem id and complete workitem using FM SAP_WAPI_WORKITEM_COMPLETE
this FM doesnt work , step becomes logically deleted which is not desirable
3 - find active workflows and derive workitem id and complete workitem using other FM SAP_WAPI_SET_WORKITEM_COMPLETD
work item is complete but there is workflow error - cannot determine succesor node
4 - find active workflows and derive workitem id and change a particular container element
check this container element in complete workitem condition in activity step of dialog step of workflow of this task-
         workitem stays inprocess
check this container element in parellel wait step to complete the workitem-
parellel step executes but fork is not complete, workflow doesnt proceed
kindly help in this matter. the workitem does not get completed at all even if we force complete, workflow goes in error of - cannot determine succesor node.
is there anything specific to the EXTSRV-PROCESS method which makes the TS50000075 task to trigger EXTSRV-COMPLETED and end the workitem ?
help is much needed in this case
    thank you,
    b

    Hi,
You need to see the event in SWEL, otherwise it will never work with workflow. Make sure that the event monitor is on (in transaction SWELS).
I cant see the event in SWEL. The vent monitor is on because if I create event in SWUE, it shows up.
How you actually create the event now?
There is BADI QISR which is always called to handle user action of PDF form. I have written the function modue to create event in the user action
    >If i trigger it using funciton module -- then it doesnt find any receivere so it doesnt terminate the task. it is seen in SWEL with no receiver found. do i still need to do commit work ?
You need the COMMIT WORK always if you trigger the event in any program&function or whatever.
ok ill try doing commit work after the create event function module
Test your event with transaction SWUE. Make a test case first in a way that the task is waiting in the inbox/UWL. Then create the event in SWUE. Now, if the task gets completed, you will know that that event itself is working and your terminating event configuration is done properly. If this works, your only problem is in the event creation itself. And for that you need to tell exactly how you create the event. If you do it with your own custom code, use SAP_WAPI_CREATE_EVENT and don't forget to have COMMIT WORK after the function call.
I am doing exactly like you said. but it doesnt work ie even if I create the event in SWUE, the workitem doesnt get completed.
This event is seen in SWEL with no receivere found
I am able to infact set the workitem to complete using WAPI funciton module to complete teh task in the BADI.
but the workflow goes in to error saying , next node cannot be determined

  • Insert ActiveX Object - not in list

    Hi, guys.
After one time, I'm not able to install by myself ActiveX controls and embed these controls into ActiveX containers yet. I refer to ActiveX controls that can be embedded into ActiveX containers, not those used to instantiate other applications.
I want a certain ActiveX Control to be displayed in an ActiveX Container on the Front Panel. In this particular case, it's a Mozilla Firefox ActiveX Control. According to http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/activex-firefox-and-mozilla/td-p/356235 (see message 5), after getting the component from the link provided and installing it, I should be able to insert onto the empty ActiveX Container by clicking over it and selecting "Insert ActiveX Object...". In this case, "MozillaBrowser class" should appear in the list, but not.
However, if I place a Property Node or Invoke Node without reference on the Block Diagram, click on it, then "Select Class" -> "ActiveX" -> "Browse", I find the class "MozillaControl 1.0 Type Library Version 1.0", that, among others, it contains the class "IWebBrowser2". This class happens to be called "MOZILLACONTROLLib.IWebBrowser2". But, once I have the Property Node or Invoke Node, I can't create the container from it (create control from its reference) neither place an empty ActiveX container and wire its reference to the Property Node.
I also tried registering the ActiveX Control, by typing "regsvr32 <control_name.dll>" in the command prompt, but nothing changes.
But this doesn't happen to me only with this particular ActiveX control. Every time I want to find in the list a certain ActiveX component after installing it, I can't find it, and I end up copying ActiveX container blocks from VI examples I found on the forums... One example is using AcroPDF ActiveX Control.
Any suggestion? Has anybody faced the same problem?

    Francisco

    Hello,
    Probably you can
see the server in the pop-up menu because the server is not in the PC but is in
the registry. Remove the checkbox “Validate Servers” to see if the Mozilla
server appears. According to this LV help link...
    http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/371361G-01/lvhowto/creating_new_controls_in_a/
... looks like the server is not installed in the PC... or it’s not registered.

  • Ical events not showing in iCloud calander

I have enabled icloud calander on my imac, iphone 3 gs and MacBook Pro. All the iCal calanders are working fine on each device, when I creat an event on one device, it shows up on all the others.
The problem is that when I log into iCloud, via safari, and try to use the on-line iCloud calander it is blank and has none of my events in it. I have seen lots of references to calanders being "on my Mac" and I think that may be the issue, but personally I have not seen any calander anywhere on my devices listed as being "on my Mac". (The only place I ever see this status is on my mac mail boxes)
Another solution I see people talking about is to "merge" calanders. I cannot find a merge button anywhere and have not seen it listed as an option in any of my efforst with iCloud or iCal. (I have used it with my contacts where I got the option to merge my iphone contacts with iCloud contacts)
I am using mavericks on my iMac, and OSX 10.8.5 on my MBP.
I have been at this now for about 4 hrs....driving me nuts.
I also have difficulty understanding why I have so  many calanders listed, one for each email address. I'm only one guy, I can only be in one place at one time. Why would I need multiple calanders?
I've also seen people saying to set iCloud calander as your main or default calander. I do not see any option anywhere to set one calander as th

Sorted it myself. You have to untick all the calanders on the left sidebar, except the "ICloud" one. I've disabled all the other calanders. Still don't understand why there is a calander listed for each email address. What's the connection between email addresses and calanders?

  • How to control labview VI from a program not written in LabView on another computer?

I am tasked with finding a way to control (an existing) LabView application (VI) from another computer (networked together) as part of a larger application which is not constructed in LabView (likely C# .Net Windows app).
So, I am looking to find a solution that
    a) requires minimal change to the existing stand-alone LabView VI
    b) does not require LabView on the remote (controlling) computer.
Controlling the LabView application involves communicating various setpoints etc, controlling start / stop, and getting back from the application some measured data values; could be treated as file transfer or data streams.
Will it be fruitful to look into controlling the VI over TCP/IP? I gather that support exists in LabView for sending and receiving data over TCP connections. This approach would I guess require code to be added to the existing VI to handle commands and requests on the connection; simulating the ability to interact with the front panel.
Are other options available? I see in the help pages mention of DataSockets and web services among other approaches.
I am totally new to LabView, so all suggestions gratefully received, but please don't assume any knowledge of LabView.

You can control LV from other applications using the ActiveX interface from VI Server. Since you want to do this from a remote machine, you would have to enable ActiveX-access using DCOM. This is a rather worksome efford and to my experience not really suggested.
So i suggest you to define a TCP-based protocol for remote control of your dedicated application. This of course is only valid, if the application is already running on the "server". So your "client" connects, sends commands which are executed by the "server" and data and status information is sent back. And you are correct that this will require (significant) changes to the LV application.
Web Services are also a valid approach if you can connect to web based applications. LabVIEW utilizes RESTful Web Services architecture. REST provides a lightweight
protocol accessible to a wide variety of clients. The architecture does not
require complex message parsing and provides a simple interface for you to begin
    using Web Services
    in LabVIEW.
Other methods are possible, but i recommend you to pick one of those.
    hope this helps,
    Norbert

  • GPIB-1284CT not responding inside LabView 5

I have installed a GPIB-1284CT GPIB controller in my system. I have followed instructions and substituted the GPIB-32/16.dll in my /windows/system folder.
If I issue a ibfind gpib0 command through the 3.1 software shipped with the device I get a correct answer, but if I try to use the LV 5 software (i.e. the Measurement & Automation control and similars), the controller is not seen by the system.
Similarly, if I issue the ibfind command from inside LV, I do not get an answer.
What steps have I skipped? How should I better configure my system to work transparently from within Labview (I mean seamlessly using also existing software modules)?
    Thank you in advance!
    Stefano

    Dear A.S.,
    thank you for your feed-back!
I am actually using Win95 at the moment, with LabView 5.
I have installed the 1.30 version of NI 488.2 and MAX is version 1.0.1 build 27. Doing F5 does not help; the system cannot see any GPIB device installed. It then guides to the troubleshooting wizard, where I am offered in the end to add new hardware from the usual Windows control panel. But I have not been able to find any .inf file for my GPIB interface anywhere, neither on the NI site, nor on the disks enclosed with the GPIB module.
Basically, this sw is intended to work under Win 3.1, but there is no other choice, as far as I can see.
When using Wibic 3.0 and issueing the ibfind gpib0 command I get id=32000 as an answer.
    I have also
installed the NI-VISA 2 package (but I am no VISA expert at all...) and from the interactive module, by activating the win32 ibic module, this time I get only error messages when I issue the ibfind command.
I have already followed the instructions given on the documentation and I have installed the compatibility package and substituted the gpib*.dll in /windows/system.
I hope I have given some useful details, in case there is still something missing I will be glad to provide it.
Thank you again for any hint!
