Activity space to change portal language

Hello,
I am trying to build an activity space that works as follows:
In the page header I want to have a link that points to my custom activity space and that when clicked, will alternate the portal's locale between French and English and keep the user on his current page.
This activity space will need to work for both guest users and logged in users.
I have seen on previous posts that people have done this before but not enough details are ever provided to be able to figure out how to do it properly.
Essentially I need an activity space without a view or display since the user is not taken to any page when they click on the link. It simply refreshes the page in the new language.
Could someone provide me some guidance as to which Activity Space , Control and Model class I should be extending to be able to code this functionality since there are so many classes available and examples with most of them implementing a View class that I can't figure out what I need and how to setup the proper execution flow.
No details are too much.

When you get time would you mind provide short description (ideas) how to do this? I mean that may be useful for others if they need to do this in future.
In aqualogic the same things can be done by different ways sometimes and you may have the best solution.

    I am trying to provide the language drop down option in Portal Masthead.
    I have created the Hovermenu in Masthead which displayes 2 options(English and German)
    When user selects German, the portal should be loaded in german language.
    Can you please guide me with the proper event handler which should be called, on clicking Hovermenu Item.
    Which URL should be called on clicking Hovermenu Item.

    Now th problem what I am facing is,
    I am not able to call the function ChangeLanguage through javascript.
    I have created a dropdwon using Hovermenu and added English and German.
    Now when I click on these the function should be called.
    Please help me in getting how setClientSideScript() can be used to call a function.
    or any other way to call the function after clicking on Hovermenu Item.

    that changes email's panel.
    But changing these files, does not effect on the email application.
    so I have found a document that is about customizing Oracle Collaboration Suite
    in Oracle® Collaboration Suite Administrator's Guide.
    In this document there is comments for Customizing Oracle Web Access Client Resource Bundles,
    I tried to do its instructions but I couldn't go forward because when I run the perl script,
    I get access denid error for oracle_home.
    Any idea about where to look for this problem? or any tip?

  • Federated Portal Language change not visible on remote role

    Hi,
    Remote role assigment is done on consumer portal. This remote portal role comes from a BI Producer portal.
    This roles has worksets and iviews attached to it like km navigation iview etc.
    User on consumer portal has options to change his language to french from default english.
    Here the issue is, this language change does not reflect or apply to the remote role and its iviews or contents.(It continues to show in english) . But it works without problem o n local roles or ivews as expected.
    Any idea on how this language change can be effected on the remote role and its contentc will be much appreciated.

    Hello Ashok,
    You must remember that because this is RRA the content will actually run on the producer (unless this is an AI iView).
    This means that the language will be determine according to the user's language defined on the producer itself, therefor you have to change the language of that specific user on the producer portal.
    If this does not help it might be that the iView is forcing the language, then we'll have to try somehthing else.
    Update me with the results of the first triage,
    Also have a look at SAP Note # 1295703 under the Language category, it explains the algorithem of determining the language.

    I looking for a way of using the Country/Region attribute in the Active Directory to set the language for the user in the portal and wonder how and where to set this.
    Due to the documentation at help <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/e6/d75d3760735b41be930f2dddae3126/content.htm">Logical Attributes</a>
    I have added the attribute in the dataSourceConfiguration.xml file under the <principal type=user>.

    Any ideas for what I should enter in the mapping are for the user

  • Change the language (locale) of the Portal

    Hi everybody,
    I have to implement internationalization in my Portal.
    I do it throws bundle resources in my iview and throws Portal Content Translation for workset name.
    But now, I need to implement a iview in which there are 3 flag (english, french and german for example) and when a user clicks on one of these, this changes the Portal language.
    Do someone know how I can do that?
    I think I have to change the locale of the session on the button clic but I don't find how to di that ..

    In portal components it's even simpler, just declare the bundle in the portalapp.xml and read strings as described here:

    What Fabien needs, is a component placed on the framework page that changes the user's locale.
    This is an example coding to change the language to french:

    Untill the user sets the portal language the default is the browser/or application .....
    I want to write code that if the user didnt set the portal language ..then the language  is set to X.

  • Language of Webdynpro after changing the Portal Language

    Hi All,
    Even after changing the portal language from for ex. English to French, the webdynpro is still displayed in English language.
    If this session (portal window) is closed and new portal session is started, then the webdynpro is displayed in French.
    Also please note that, for iviews built using Portal HTMLB (like JspDynPages), restarting the session is not necessary.
    Any answer/solution/pointers/SAP Notes supplied is greatly appreciated.

  • Pt: opener tag with activity spaces

    Hi,
    Does anyone know a way of using a pt tag to render a link straight to the changePassword activity space?
    I have it hard coded at the moment, but obviously I want to use a tag to make it work between environments etc.

    First off, these are all excellent questions. It would be great if the community could come up with solid answers that we all could implement. I'm going to take a stab but someone wiser than myself is really needed to answer the questions.
    1) Is there a reason why you wouldn't want users to see the login page? I mean they can login right? Is it just that you want them to login from the page header instead of the login space? You could override the login space to get it to display whatever you want. I believe in the latest version of the portal the login space is even adaptive layout'd so it may be really easy to change.
    2) Great question / find. I don't think its really a security threat because security is still being obeyed...they only see folders that they have read access to. Again, you may be able to "turn off" this activity space (subspace?) on certain servers by diving into the ui source code.
    3) What would you expect to happen when the users changes the page id? Not trying to be snarky..but what would be better behavior. We have this issue all the time, but its caused by people linking to pages that have been deleted. I suppose you could use a PEI to redirect to a page that does exist...but it seems liek a lot of overhead and work.

  • ALUI KD Activity Space Modification.

    Hi,
    I am seeking some input regarding to modifying the View/ActivitySpace for the Knowledge Directory. I am at a customer site, where the customer is eager to have us modifying the View & Activity Space for Knowledge Directory, Basic Search, and Advanced Search, as to only allow searches within KD folders and documents crawled into the KD server.
    I have tried modifying the UI Code, particularly the FolderBannerView.CS file. However, the end result is with limited success, because the portal automatically puts a form on top of another form and such breaking the javascript generated by the SearchFormFactory class.
    Can someone help me on this topic? Or, at least give me a ball-park figure on how much effort (# of hours) will be required to change those ActivitySpace & Views?

    One of the keys to understanding ALI development is knowing the difference between native (UI customization) and remote (portlet) development.
    AActivitySpace.getString is only available in native code. For remote code, my suggestion is to use the IDK to retrieve the locale and then roll your own I18N.

    He said do not mess with that ! then I got a text from somewhere to reset 4 pins suddenly it was very strange I said to him that I got this pin this morning but it said you can use maximum 3 hours it had a UK number and I told him I do not like this and will not enter the code he said do not do it if it is from the UK and then I said to him ok you did a lot to help but we can not go any further ! and we cut of I went back to my computer to re do the ID but I found everything a mess so I call and a stupid sounding Japanese women with a squeaky voice came on I was calm at first and they want your phone number your IMEI number your iPhone serial number date of birth Address email address it takes 10 munutes to check then they ask what are you caling about so I try to explain my keychain is broken or problems with language security questions and can not change my pasword because the security question have failed me so it is ONE BIG HEADACHE AND I START I GET STRESSED she says Do want an ENGLISH speaker ,I say yes ,that guy i talked to earlier but I never got his name and first time I ever talked to him but they said he is not here so I said ok and then she said today is sunday so call back in the morning ,I said ,well ok in Japanese but they make you feel stupid because they do not want to speak Jap@anese with none natives and they are to busy,And they feel that I should not bother them ,then I say that Apple Japan is trying to refuse Apple foreign customers and then she wants to hang up and ask me to visit the shop ,but they are the same I have a very bad time with Apple Japan since they do not discuss software problems or security with customer meaning if you have a problem they ask you to come on a time 20 minutes max so they do hardware test and say you phone is fine then I say no I can not reset my ID they say you must call call centre so I am going around in circles ,When I call English it is usually Australia so if my problem is in Japan surely if do not want me to talk to them in Japanese and they ask me to call Australia but every time my call charge is expensive after asking them is this free because I have Apple care they say yes but when the call goes to Australia 0120 277 535 it might change to paid call so I call then I have to ask is this charging they say we can not give you that information ! so what can I do I have have been at the computer and phone all day on my day off work and in tre week I am so busy and can not use my phone I can not work without it ,this new technology for you ,they can not cope with the fact that the customer have problems yet they do not want to deal with us because they can not solve it and so it shows them to be useless they like to walk around in their cool tee shirts and retro shop but when it comes to functionality we are unwelcome they got the money so do not return because apple is perfect that nothing should go wrong .
    But it does somehow my English security answers do not work on a Japanese Question especialy if I did not choose that question I set  up the multiple choice In English and wrote the answers in English or Roman and set them langauge preferences in English, do you really think you can correctly write english name or word in Japanese they write a police patrol car  pato caa パトカア　they do not have r and l .So it is my choice to make my security easy for me and as difficult for others to hack.But they also have patororoo choo meaning ' now patrolling ' so why they have pato caa patrol car and patoro patrol and have thousands of Chinese words kanji they can find patrol.
    I am getting off the topic but I am at a loss to fix this problem when they hold the keys and i have all the info to verify my ID.

    hello, I think that this problem has to resolved if it's not yet..  I am on creative cloud in french and all my APPS are in french 
    I  have bought a template for after effect on video hive and its expressions do not work because they are in english..
    what can I do ? ,
    except changing the language and if it's the only solution How can I do that ?  just for a week .. I don't want to keep an english version
