Adding a new mailbox in MAC Mail not working

Please assist me on how to troubleshoot this issue I'm having on my mac mail.
I added a mailbox by clicking the primary email inbox then after that I checked the newly added mailbox but no emails are coming in. I tested to send an email to that mailbox but still no emails are arriving.

  • Mac mail not working after Mavericks 10.9.4 update

Help! Mac Mail was working fine, on all 3 of my different email accounts, until I did the Mavericks 10.9.4 update yesterday. Now I cannot receive or send mail and it shows all accounts are offline. Connection doctor says it cannot connect to server. I am able to get online fine and I check with my provider Verizon and all is working perfectly with them......it must be something to do with the update that screwed something up. Any help or suggestions would be AWESOME!

  • HT201257 mac mail not working

Mac mail stopped working properly so that I'm unable to retrieve fresh mail from my Yahoo or Gmail accounts.  I have powered off and on my Macbook Pro, but the problem persists.  What are my next steps?

I'm grateful for your offering to help.  Although I'd tried everything I could think of to correct my situation where there's an exclamation mark next to my Yahoo Mail account, I got nowhere despite restarting my Macbook Pro, checking with Connection Doctor, etc.  Something was suspiciously amiss, as Connection Doctor took much, much longer to connect than with my other email accounts (Gmail, Comcast, Hotmail).  But inexplicably, as I'm trying to retrace the paths you'd offered, everything seemed to have corrected itself, as I now, for the first time this morning, see the exclamation mark next to my Yahoo account disappear with access to my Yahoo mail.  THANKS!

  • Preview and Mac Mail not working after upgraded to 10.4.11

    Hello,
I just upgraded to 10.4 everything works fine, after I upgraded to 10.4.11, I find funny noice on my hard drive and preview, mac mail is not working. Trashing the preference is not working.
    Urgent help please.
    Thank you
    Benny

There are no guarantees, but following this procedure when installing updates and upgrades on your Mac, or even re-installing them, will go a long way towards avoiding unpleasant after effects and ‘post-update stress disorder’.
It is also worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
    2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
    3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site. If your car runs on gasoline you would not want to fill the tank with diesel, so don’t try to install the PPC updater on an Intel Mac!
The 10.4.11 Combo Updater for PPC Macs is here: http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_4_11_Combo_Update__PPC
And for Intel Macs: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx10411comboupdat eintel.html
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Full details about the 10.4.11 update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
More information on using Software Updater here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.4.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.4.10 to 10.4.11. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
    Now proceed as follows:
    4. Close all applications.
    5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
    7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
    8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious!
    9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a weeks or two while you regularly check their websites for updates. This applies particularly to plug-ins for Safari 3.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4 or, if you downloaded it, Safari 3.0.3 beta. Safari 10.4.11 used Safari 3.0.4 which was not a beta. If Safari 3.1.2 on 10.4.11 is not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
Moreover, trying to revert to Safari 3.0.4 (or worse still, version 2) when running 10.4.11 or 10.5 can have repercussions, as Safari 3.1.1 uses a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail and Dashboard Widgets etc also rely, and may entail you having to reinstall an earlier operating system.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Two such add-on that have been frequently mentioned here for causing such problems are Piclens and Pithhelmet. If you have them, trash them.
Additional tips on software installation here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
    • /Library/InputManagers
    • ~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).

  • Mac mail not working with gmail 2 step verification in yosemite

Every couple of days my 2 step verification seems to drop off the mac mail (and calendar) radar. Ive been using mac mail with 2 step verification (gmail account) for about 8 months, no problems. About 1 month ago my mac started asking for my gmail password. I have revoked and regenerated my password about 6 times recently to try to overcome this issue. The new password works for a couple of days and then mail and calendar start asking from my password again.

Not quite a reply, but I'm not sure how best to add to my first comment.
One of the issues with this (and there are multiple) is that I can't use handoff to work on something on my mac, started on my ipad, if it is working through my gmail account eg notes, calendar, email.
This bug is totally crippling the productivity and flexibility that came with ios8/yosemite developments.

  • 10.10.2 mac mail not working with Godaddy

After set up in Mac mail, will not pull Godaddy email. Godaddy's web site has suggestions but none seem to work. Any suggestions?

Do you have two step authentication setup with your account? If yes, get an app-specific password.
Have you tried deleting the account and adding it back?
    Troubleshoot Connection:
With Mail active, under Window in the menu bar, select Connection Doctor.
You want to see two green symbols for your GoDaddy account. One for incoming and one for outgoing.
Are they both red or just one? If it's just the SMTP (outgoing) that is red, most likely you just need to re-enter the password (see below).
    EDIT SMTP SETTINGS
In Accounts window > Outgoing Mail Server SMTP:  select to Edit SMTP Server list... from popup.
Select account in the list.(It's not uncommon to find extra SMTP servers listed. When you remove account, Mail does not delete the smtp info. You might need to do some clean up in the list to remove the extras.)
    Under Advanced Tab:
Apple defaults to the default ports (25,465, 587) but some servers prefer a custom port. Check to see what port they recommend. Gmail for example likes 465, Outlook.com 587. GoDaddy 3535
Verify if your server require SSL. (uncheck SSL if not required)
User Name. Enter full email address  eg.  [email protected]
Add password if it is blank.(If you have two step authentication setup, you'll need to get an app specific password  more info)
Open Connection Doctor under Window in the Menu bar.
Do you see green light now for your account SMTP?

  • Just upgraded to Mavericks mac mail not working properly

New mac mail: mail shared from Safari doesn't display with formatting no graphics just boxes with question marks and no formatting. Can anyone help to solve this?
    Thanks

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folders. In OS X 10.9 there are two sandboxes, while in 10.8 there is only one. If you're running a version older than 10.8, this comment isn't applicable.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Mac mail not working after OS 10.9.5 update

I have the same problem as other users.
Since last update of the OS to 10.9.5, the MAIL app does not send email.
It just does a few times a day, on and off.
I tried to take all accounts offline and then take all accounts online again, so many times, does not work.
I tried to reboot; does not work.
I tried deleting my accounts and creating them again, does not work.
I started to like that app, makes me sad to see how bad it got this week.
Does anyone know what is going on??
MacBook Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)
    HELP!
Re: Mail app drives me crazy, does not sync since last update 10.9.5

On and Off, that's the reason I am 100% convinced it is a software update issue.
It seems that Mail does not connect to servers as it used to.
Sometimes it would work great for a while, and turn back down again for no reason.
Apple will not read those comments as it is a place for mac users only. The only thing we can do is send 1 email per day, that's what i am doing, to "Provide Mail Feedback" in Mail on the bar to complain so they hear about the problem and try to solve it.
Any mac user of the community could help, apart from saying just do not use this app anymore?

  • Mac mail not working after ios 10.9.5 update

After updating to OS X 10.9.5, both of my email accounts are only sporadically sending email through Mac Mail.  About 50% of my outgoing mail is rejected by my mail server Comcast.  My email works on my iphone.  My families' emails using Comcast work.  Seems the latest ios is the culprit.  How to fix?

I have the same problem as you, I reported it here:
Re: Mail app drives me crazy, does not sync since last update 10.9.5
But the only answer I got is the same link to Troubleshooting.
Thank you Eric for your answer but this does not solve the issue.
You have to understand that EVERYTHING is IN ORDER!!! Yes, the emails sometimes leave the outbox, suddently, after beeing blocked for a long time.
I also lost a lot of emails like that, they went to Outbox, never left, and were erased.
Apple HAS TO DO SOMETHING and stop saying that it is our connection or settings that wrong. If it can work, it means all is in order. I really believe this comes from the last update. Please give us a solution, make it work!

  • Mac Mail not working after Mavericks upgrade

After successfully updating to Mavericks, Mac Mail app does not launch (window does not appear on screen) and requires force quit to stop. I also have Outlook loaded and it started up and works fine.  I would rather use Mail. Anyone else have this issue?  Is there any easy fix?  The app doesn't launch completely so I can't clear any of the accounts to try to start Mail fresh.

Here's my issue and how I fixed it. If you have this problem then try what I did.
When I lauched Mail, it appeared like it opened but then wouldn't display any windows at all and wouldn't
update my mail count on the icon.
Within mail there is options to display. The setting was set to "assign to none". That makes mail appears as though it is not working and seemed to bottleneck how mail operates.
In the dock - click and hold on Mail - open Options and chose the display you wish to assign the window to display
    mail.
    Hope this helps.

  • Mail and .mac mail not working

Well, I've sent 3 emails to customer service to no avail, so hopefully someone else on these inter-tubes is having the same problem. 3 days ago my mail stopped working. Mail on my Mac continually says my password has been rejected. OK, Mail sometimes is flaky. I can live with that (for now), but I also can't get email from a web browser. I can log in just fine and dandy. Bookmarks? Check. iWeb web sites? Check. iDisk, iCards, iCal? Check, check, and check. Mail? "Your information could not be displayed. Click here to try again." I've clicked "here" more times than Steve Jobs says "Amazing" at a keynote. I've tried on several different computers all with the same results. If anyone can help I'd be eternally grateful. Thanks! FYI, I have had this account since iTools.

  • Search in Mac Mail not working or working very poorly

    Just found this on MacRumors
Post this into Terminal to enable indexing. Why it gets turned off I don't know. I think there used to be a button for it in Spotlight prefs which isn't there now. I remember turning it off once as it seemed to interfere with the smoothness of the computer. If you had turned it off when you upgraded to the OS version where the enable indexing button is no longer there, it will stay off.
So to turn it on: enter this into terminal and enter your password.
    sudo mdutil -E -i on /
It enables indexing again and fixes the dreadful search function in Mac mail.
    Nige

You are confusing Google (or other internet) searches with knowledge. It's possible to find that just about anything is true with the right search.
Further, if you feel that finding someone else who said that Spotlight indexing was turned off means that your Spotlight indexing must be turned off is completely illogical. Was your indexing actually turned off? Well, we'll never know now, if you didn't check it before.
What the command you used does is: 1) erase the old Spotlight index, forcing it to be recreated, and 2) make sure indexing is turned on. Most likely your old index was damaged, so recreating it fixed your problems.

  • Mac Mail not working

I have my Mac Mail set up for IMAP use with one of my email accounts. However, the mails doesn't show up in the inbox view. If I search for them I can find them but if I click on the overall inbox view or the sub inbox view none of the emails are there. I have Mail set up with three email accounts and the other two work fine. The other two are Gmail and .Mac mail. I have set this up on another computer and the account worked fine. So it has to be something with my computer. Thanks for any help

This sounds like a strange one.
The first thing I'd suggest is repairing your disk permissions using disk utility (which is inside your utilities folder, which is inside your applications folder). If that doesn't help I'd boot from your software cd and run disk utility's disk repair.
If you have your hard disk cloned or anything I'd pull mail's preference file form your clone and see if that helps. You probably want to keep your original preference file just in case though.

  • Why isn't my mac mail not working?

    Hey Apple Forum,
A problem has occured with my mac mail. I can recieve mail but how come I cannot send mail to anyone? It says there's something wrong with the server. But I haven't been able to send mail using this app since the day I got my macbook. So if you can please help me out. Thanks

You don't need .Mac for mail to work. You do if you're using a .Mac account. You can use your own IPS's mail and that's what I assumed you were using. However if .Mac is the service you're using you need to open Mail and select Preferences from the Menu at the top of the screen.
Once there you need to enter a description (what you want to call the account) name, email address, etc. under the Accounts. Then you need these settings
    Mail Server: mail.mac.com
Username: (whatever you've agreed on as an email address)
Password: (again whatever you've selected for this account)
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.mac.com:(your username)
I have a .Mac account but I've never had a free trial version. But if it's receiving mail then it's the SMTP part that needs the correct information entered. That's the server than sends outgoing mail.....out.
