Adding a router to the firewall exceptions?

This message keeps repeating endlessly in var/log/ipfw.log:
65534 Deny UDP 0.0.0.0:68 255.255.255.255:67 in via en0
Jun 21 09:46:47 ipfw[311]:  65534 Deny P:88 2xx.10.46.1 224.0.0.10 in via en0
The xx IP in line 2 is my router. How can I stop this error?
Thanks for your time - it's much appreciated.

First off, it's not an error. At least not technically.
The traffic it's reporting is merely standard BOOTP/DHCP traffic. I'm guessing your router is also your network's DHCP server and it's sending out normal broadcast traffic as part of its DHCP-related duties.
If you want to stop the logging, either set a rule in the firewall with a no-log option, or turn off the firewall altogether - if you're on a private LAN protected by a hardware firewall there it little to gain in running the software firewall on your server.

download connections doesn't close after I cancel the download, it keep like I am downloading and only close when I disable the network adapter or reset the router or the firewall.
I use pfsense as my firewall and see the traffic not reseting to zero when I cancel download.
Also, IE doesn't have this problem. When I cancel the download the traffic drops to zero.

And this problem seems to be systemwide. Since I created a new user and under which problem still exists.
Hope apple will look into it

Hello Mara, see if the next is helpful : [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-cant-load-websites-other-browsers-can Firefox can't load websites but other browsers can]
also, try to boot the computer in [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-hk/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7 Windows Safe mode with network support] (press F8 on the boot screen) and check firefox again.
(If works in Windows Safe mode then probably you have problem with other software, like security software or maybe a system driver, that is running on your computer).

  • Internet Edge Router and the Firewall

What is the best way to monitor an Internet Edge router from the Internal network behind the Firewall?
We want to pull more information from the edge router like netflow.  We can use SNMPv3 and ACLs to keep the router secure.
But I am looking for the best config to keep both the router and firewall as secure as possible while still allowing us to monitor performance and faults.
I am running an ASA and a 2821.

I'd start with locking down the router configuration if you haven't already. Cisco Configuration Professional (free) offers a nice GUI for analyzing and delivering all the necessary commands to secure the router.
Getting Netflow from your router doesn't add much more than getting it from your ASA.
If you're querying through the firewall to the routers using SNMPv3 (and have deleted the v1/v2 communities) that's one good step. The only other thing I might suggest is sending syslogs to your management system from the router. To do that you'll need to add an access-list and probably a NAT entry to your firewall to allow the incoming syslog traffic.
Most important beyond all the technology is to make sure that your people follow a process to regularly analyze and act upon the information being reported and gathered. Without that all the rest isn't worth the time it take to implement it.

  • Hierarchy monitoring detected that the ConfigMgr SQL Server ports 1433,4022, are not active on Firewall exception

    SMS_HIERARCHY_MANAGER reports (Message ID=3353):
"Hierarchy Monitoring detected that the ConfigMgr SQL Server <fqdn> ports 1433,4022, are not active on Firewall
    exception."
This is a fresh SCCM 2012 environment with no firewall active. SQL is installed on the same server as SCCM 2012.  Is there a way to fix this without enabling the firewall?

    Check this out
    Issue:
ConfigMgr logs the error even though Windows Firewall is disabled or it is enabled and all exceptions are added to SQL Server(s).
Environment: I had an environment  consist of a two node SQL Cluster hosting ConfigMgr database and a separate ConfigMgr primary site server
    Resolution:
Windows firewall service must be started on both SQL nodes and ConfigMgr itself . As soon as the service is started exceptions for TCP 1433 and 4022 must be added to SQL nodes firewall.
After that the firewall profiles can be disabled using:
netsh advf set allp state off
This is true but if you disable the firewall even thought you have opened the Firewall port then disabled the firewall. The status message will continue to be generated and your site server will still be in an error state.
Notice that I said "disabled" and not "turn off".

  • TMG Traffic For a Specific IP isn't leaving the server despite valid routes and no firewall

    Hi,
I'm struggling to troubleshoot a TMG networking issue:
I have a TMG server setup in my DMZ. Inbound traffic hits the a 3rd party firewall router, goes to the TMG server and is then routed back through the 3rd party firewall router to my internal network. I've setup web publishing rules and listeners for IIS
sites and SMTP traffic using a different IP to listen for 2 different websites and another IP for SMTP.
The issue I have is that my TMG server can't ping a server on the internal network on a specific IP:
    TMG can ping 192.168.11.190
    TMG cannot ping 192.168.11.191
Firewall rules are configured to permit traffic (no deny connections are shown in the monitor).
tracert and pings to 192.168.11.190 hit the internal IP of the 3rd party router
tracert to 192.168.11.191 simply responds with * * * * before timing out
Monitoring from within TMG shows the correct IP is being used in both cases (internal NIC 192.168.10.10).
A route print from TMG has a valid route to the internal network:
    (network)192.168.11.128 (mask) 255.255.255.128 (gateway) 192.168.10.126
    In summary:
     - TMG can ping 192.168.11.190, but not 192.168.11.191
     - Valid routes exists
     - No firewall rules are blocking communication
     - Traffic to 192.168.11.191 doesn't seem to be leaving the TMG server
Any advice on solving this would be appreciated.
    Cheers

It can have many reasons, but it appears to me you are having a routing issue. I can't say for sure, because I don't have the entire IP Addressing sheme. I assume you have used separate subnets for the External DMZ and Internal DMZ.
Have you configured the 192.168.11.128/25 subnet as a correct 'Address' range 192.168.11.128 - 192.168.11.255 on the 'Internal' interface within TMG?

  • Adding a route to a non pingable router

I want to add a route to a network that is routed by a firewall. This firewall can't be ping.
My question is 'How can I add this route ?" because when I try to add the route manually
    route add net 172.19.0.0 255.255.0.0 172.18.60.4 1
    The reply is :
add net 172.19.0.0: gateway 255.255.0.0: Network is unreachable
With the HP-UX server, there is an option in the /dev/ip module that tells the routing to NOT ping a gateway when adding a route but this variable ip_ire_gw_probe doesn't exist on Solaris.
Is there somebody who had an idea ?
    Gilles.

The following should work, just add the -netmask switch.
    route add net 172.19.0.0 -netmask 255.255.0.0 172.18.60.4 1

  • Firewall exception each time Captivate 8 is launched

Every time I launch Captivate 8 I get a Windows Security Alert asking me to add an exception to my Windows Firewall for Captivate. The details of each exception point to a location inside my appdata\local\temp directory.

I have the main executable added as an exception already but I get the prompt for new temp folders on each launch.

I was having this same issue with Cp8 in Windows 7. I contacted TCS support and they helped me solve it for me. I asked if they would be willing to reply here with a link to download the fix, but they said "We don’t know, when we will be providing the link to the file, however we will be updating about the same on our forum and hopefully can come up with the link to the file shortly."
However they don't have an issue with me posting it, so here it is.
In C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 8\SWF_Components\ws rename CivitWEb.exe to CivitWeb_bak.exe, or move it to your desktop.
    Download CivitWeb.txt from my Dropbox.
Move the .txt version to the \ws folder above and change the .txt extension to .exe.
    Launch Captivate.
Once I placed the file, I no longer got the firewall warnings, and no more buildup of cp session folders. I was also having an issued with browser previews not working. That issue was solved also. They said that with this file in place, Edge Inspect preview wouldn't work, but it is working for me.
Hopefully this will help others until Adobe has an official update or fix. Of course this is at your own risk. Good luck.

  • Don't reach a network , even when I add a route to the TMG machine

    Hello,
    Hello,
I attach the image so it is easier to understand.
Basically, as the drawing says, I am trying to reach DC1 from TMG2, but I am unable. To achieve it I just added a route (red-coloured in the image) to the TMG2 machine, but the log keeps telling me "Packet dropped because the ip is unreachable."
I really don't know why it is that the machine can't get to DC1, the firewall is off.
Also, TMG1 allows all the icmp traffic from the Perimeter to the LAN.
I have a question: TMG2 sees 192.168.2.0/24 as external, I don't have a definition for such network in the TMG2 machine. There is the NAT relation between the Perimeter network and the External , and I am wondering if this is what is causing all the issue.
I edit the post to ask another question:
I have a route relationship between the LAN and the Perimeter network in TMG1, I wonder if that should be a NAT relationship between those two networks.
    Thanks in advance!
Luis Olías Técnico/Admon Sistemas . Sevilla (España - Spain)

    Thanks again Anders.
    Answering you:
    1. Yes, it is the DC and it needs to be accessed from the machines in other branches, because I have set up a VPN Site-to-Site between a branchoffice and the main office. (Lab for now, not working environment)
    2. TMG2 logs says that any traffic going to DC1 is dropped because "Packet dropped because the ip is unreachable." All are packetc coming from the DC from the branchoffice, asking for dns traffic 53 udp, ldap, kerberos, and so forth, in order to
    get in touch with DC1.
3.Since the traffic is dropped by TMG2, TMG1 don't receive any traffic. But the rules to pass through it are well set (in my view, I have set up many rules in ISA Server 2006)
4.TMG1 sees TMG2 as belonging to the Perimeter network (you can see it in the picture, if I drew it well I mean)
5.There is a route relationship between perimeter and lan, which is just what I think it is where the problem could be, but I really don't get the difference between a nat and a route, I know the difference, nat hides the private ip's but still unable how
    that affects here.
    Again: Thanks !

I am having the following issues:
Internal users can video conf and call each other fine.

  • Have firewall exception but still get prompted every time

I have DropBox added to my firewall exception list to allow it to accept incoming connections but every time I login i still get the system prompt me to asj if I want to allow incoming connections for DropBox.
Anybody have any idea why is this happening and how can I stop it?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
I'm experiencing the same problem with a bunch of programs on both my MacBook Air (which I just bought a few days ago) and with my iMac. Both are completely up-to-date, but the issue has existed on my iMac for almost a year (just after I bought Snow Leopard). I've tried everything from trying to fix permissions to reinstalling iTunes, Vuze, etc. right down to wiping the drive and reinstalling everything from scratch.
I've even called Apple support about this problem, but I never get a strait answer, just a who bunch of mumbling and guessing and vague suggestions. I'm going to take my Macbook Air to the Apple Store in my town this coming week to sit down with a "pro" to figure out whether Apple actually CAN help or if I need to become a darn developer myself to fix the issue.
    I'll keep you posted.

  • The iTune Remote App has stopped finding my iTunes library when connected to wifi from my main router, but works fine when connected via second wifi router on the same network (different SSID)

I'm running iTunes Remote App from a couple of iPhone 5's and a first generation iPod Touch. iTunes is running on a PC - Windows 7. My home network runs two Wifi Routers, each with a different SSID. I've had no problems with the Remote app running this set up for the last 8 months but recently the App can only find my iTunes library when the iPhone/iPod is connected via one specific router, when connected to the network via the other router, no iTunes library is found. I'm also running an Apple TV and it's the same as the iTunes Library, only visible via the one SSID.
Everything else seems to work fine when connected via either router, eg Internet on the iPhones (definitely via wifi)
I've tried renewing the lease on the iPhone wifi connection, restarting everything.....several times.....
It used to work fine, this only seems to have been a problem in recent weeks
Any help or advice would be much appreciated
    Thanks
    Ian

It turned out to be the firewall settings on our router. Her machine was sending traffic that our router interpreted as a DoS attack and blacklisted her Airport's MAC address. That's why it would work fine if she switched to Ethernet.

  • Routing issue on firewall

    Hi All,
As per attached network diagram I have 2 firewall connected to L3 switch. Since specific route is present already I am nt able to route same specific route to other firewall.
PBR cannot be done in ASA. So how can I fix this issue?

    Hello Ravindra,
Where did you set the specific route?
Where are you trying to go ? To which network? is it behind both ASAs?
    Please be more specific,
    Regards,
Hey remember to rate all of the helpful posts, as important as a thanks (keep us motivated)

  • How do you check to see if the firewall is up?

    Hi,
I need to disable my router's firewall but I don' want to expose the office computers to any untold risks. All the computer's are connected to the internet either wirelessly thanks to the Airport Extreme, or via a wired connection (modem/router —> Airport Extreme —> Ethernet Switch —> computer) with the Airport acting as one of the nodes.
As I understand it, the network will be safe from harm if I can ensure the firewall is up in my Airport Extreme.
How can I tell that it's up? There's no mention of a firewall in the Airport Utility.
    Help is much appreciated.

Thanks for the tip but I can't find the Network tab. I entered the Airport Utility and clicked on Manual and the only tabs on view are 'Summary', 'Basestation', 'Wireless', and 'Access'. Not to sound ungrateful or anything (I'm always grateful for any support I receive) but could you be more precise with your instructions?

  • WCF :Consider marking the type with the CollectionDataContractAttribute attribute or the SerializableAttribute attribute or adding a setter to the property

    Hi All,
Currently I am working in a WCF project here when I try to send data from WCF Project 1 to WCF project 2 I am getting the below error.
The formatter threw an exception while trying to deserialize the message: There was an error while trying to deserialize parameter http://tempuri.org/:subscriber. The InnerException message was 'The use of type 'Integra.Business.ICC.ObjectChangeTracker'
as a get-only collection is not supported with NetDataContractSerializer.  Consider marking the type with the CollectionDataContractAttribute attribute or the SerializableAttribute attribute or adding a setter to the property.'.  Please see InnerException
    for more details.
I don't understand what issue this is since I am new to WCF. Please help me on this thanks in advance.

You've posted to a forum for Microsoft Project - a project management program.  Please re-post your question to the WCF forum:
