Adding a scroll bar

Hello
I have designed this website for my client... http://www.applebybowers.com/for_web/
They wish to add a vertical scroll bar to the middle where the majority of text is so that more text can be added if necessary without the res of the page disappearing out of view on smaller monitors.
Can anyone advise the best way to go about this.
Thanks

I'm not crazy about it either, but sometimes the client just won't change their mind no matter how much you try to persuade them!
It's actually only on one page that I need the scroll bar - http://www.applebybowers.com/for_web/news.html
The client would like a scroll bar here so that all of the news articles can be viewed on one page without the rest of the page disappearing off the monitor.
I read Bob's advice but now that I've come to have a go at adding the code I'm not sure where to add it. Also, do I need to add a div inside the table cell, and if so how do I do that? I've looked on a few forums and found similar bits of code to use but haven't got a clue where to include it...
<div style="overflow: auto; height: 100px; width: 200px;">Put your text or images or anything in here.</div>
Would someone please have a look at my code and advise me on what I need to do.
Thanks.

  • Adding a scroll bar to tabbed panel content?

    I have set a specific height to tabbed panels and I don't
    want them to expand according to content. Instead I want to add a
    scroll bar to the tabbed panels. How can i do this?

    Sure it's possible.
    Edit the TabbedPanelsContent class in the CSS file.
    Add a specific height to it and then add an overflow:auto;
    rule to it.
    .TabbedPanelsContent {
    padding: 4px;
    overflow: auto;
    height: 200px;
    When styling Spry Widgets, for the most part, just think of
    them as HTML. Add a height and a scrollbar just as you would to any
    DIV.
    Hope this helps,

  • How to make the scroll bar in flex automate to focus on the new ui component added in the canvas?

    Hi all ,
    There is a canvas container where am adding charts in separate windows.
    So whenever a new chart is added the scroll bar needs to set the focus on the present chart window.
    For this i made the functionality for the canvas container to scroll whenever a new chart is added using the below code
    canvasContainer.verticalScrollPosition = canvasContainer.maxVerticalScrollPosition;
    But the calculations for the vertical position are not precise...
    Is there anything else I should do to make the scroll happen automatically as the chart windows get added in the container ??
    Any suggestions pls

  • Horizontal scroll bar in selectOneMenu tag

    Hi,
    I am using selectOneMenu tag to show the data. The data size is larger than the size of selectOneMenu tag. Inspite of increasing the size of tag,
    I want to add a horizontal scroll bar.
    Can someone please suggest me, how to achieve this?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Rahul

    Hi,
    As suggested, I am using div tag to set the horizontal scroll bar in SelectOneMenu tag. The way I'm using it :-
    <div style="overflow-x:scroll; width:140px;">
    <h:selectOneMenu
              id="eventType"
              styleClass="standardInput"
              required="true"
              tabindex="40"
              onchange="clearMessage(this);"
              value="#{UserBean.activeEvent.eventType}"
              onkeydown="searchSelect( event);"
              onblur="searchBlur(event);" >
    <f:selectItems value="#{ReferenceLists.eventTypeList}" />
    </h:selectOneMenu>
    </div>
    This is adding the scroll bar outside the selectOneMenu tag but I want it in the dropdown window.
    Please suggest me, how to resolve the issue.

  • Scroll bar question

    I am starting out with Dreamweaver (in fact website work in
    general). I have created a template for the site's pages and within
    the table, one of the cells I've left editable for text. This cell
    is set inside several other surrounding cells, each cell pixel
    based. I created a style sheet for this text window and I want it
    to, among other things, add a scroll bar when the inserted text is
    too much for the cell. I add the text and then apply the style and
    while it adds other properties of the style, it's not adding the
    scroll bar (set to auto), but instead is extending the cell (and
    table and adjacent cells) downward. I had thought that the template
    would prevent this from occurring (only editable region is this
    text field cell).
    Sorry if I sound like a newbie...but I pretty much am.
    Thanks for any assistance, Paul

    i want to see the data of rows of next months by adding vertical scroll bar using Awt code.
    I added vertical scroll bar using awt code. When i click on that Vertical scroll bar event is going to below method.
    public void adjustmentValueChanged(AdjustmentEvent e) {

  • Scroll bar in Content Viewer

    Hello everyone,
    I have place three different height images into a frame and applied scroll bar using Content viewer. I am calling each image through a button.
    My question is:
    Can we control the scroll bar height limiation as per the image's height. Right now its taking the largest image's height as a reference, when i click and check the small height image, i see lot of white space in it.
    Thank you very much.
    Regards,
    Shiva

    What do you mean you added a scroll bar? Do you mean a scrolling frame?
    If so, no, you cannot adjust the size of that dynamically. That said, I still don't totally get what you're doing.
    You can't click to move content in a scrolling frame, only an MSO.

  • Those darn Scroll Bars!!

    Ive looked at and tried many different tuts for adding a scroll bar to a JTextArea in my JFrames but they never seem to work... can someone please write me a small sample code for it? Heres a skeleton code for you to use if you want to help me...
    import java.awt.Container;
    import java.awt.Dimension;
    import java.awt.Toolkit;
    import javax.swing.JFrame;
    import javax.swing.JTextArea;
    public class thoseDarnScrollBars extends JFrame
         JTextArea textBox;
         Dimension screenSize = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getScreenSize();
    public static void main(String[] args)
              thoseDarnScrollBars frame = new thoseDarnScrollBars();
              frame.setVisible(true);
    public thoseDarnScrollBars()
              Container c = getContentPane();
              setTitle("SCROLL BAR!");
              setSize(400, 300);
              setLocation(((int)screenSize.getWidth()/2)-(getWidth()/2), ((int)screenSize.getHeight()/2)-(getHeight()/2)); // center the box into the middle of the screen
              c.setLayout(null);
              textBox = new JTextArea("");
              textBox.setSize(390, 290);
              textBox.setLocation(5,5);
              c.add(textBox);
              setDefaultCloseOperation(EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
    }if someone could just take this code from me and add a working scroll bar i would be VERY thankful to you!

    oh... well i like it and im gunna use it for the time being (I never publish my programs, im not skilled enough to, I still just write programs to keep myself learning to gain knowledge of the Java language before I start moving onto the proper coding methods (And I know, its always best to start of with good habits so that you dont stick with the bad ones). Ill start working with BorderLayout later on)
    But ive figured out how to make it work with null as the layout:
    textBox = new JTextArea();
    JScrollPane scroll = new JScrollPane(textBox);
    scroll.setSize(390, 290);; //set parameters for scroll as if it were for the text box in the way you would if scroll wasnt involved
    scroll..setLocation(5,5);;//set parameters for scroll as if it were for the text box in the way you would if scroll wasnt involved
    textBox.setBackground(Color.BLUE);//background and foreground parameters must be set to the textBox and not scroll
    mainWindow.add(scroll);---EDIT---
    NullLayout should never be used.And technically its not "NullLayout", its just "null" =)
    Im just bein a... jerk?

  • Double Scroll Bars, Side By Side, End To End, In A JScrollPane

    I'm trying to create double scroll bars next to each other, end to end. One scroll bar is for the position in the grid, while the other, smaller scroll bar controls the zoom level. I am masquerading a JPanel as a JScrollBar. I'm adding two scroll bars to the panel, and encapsulating the panel in a subclass of JScrollBar. You might wonder why I would do that. Because JScrollPane only accepts JScrollBar classes in setHorizontalScrollBar() and setVerticalScrollBar(). I tried to override every painting method I could think of that was important, but when I test it, nothing is shown. It is completely blank. Here is the code below. I know I still have to override the general JScrollBar methods and pass them to the primary scrollbar. Does anyone have any ideas on how to do somethink like I am attempting to do?

  • Setting scroll bar to inbisible when not needed

    Here is the post again, some quotation marks came out as
    letters before. This is correct version
    I'm using AS 2.0, and have added a
    scroll bar with instance name: ...................sb1
    a dynamic text field with instance name:.... tb1_txt
    an external text file named as:....................home.txt
    I want to make the scroll bar invisible or transparent, when
    its is not needed. I'm thinking that I may have to use the _visible
    property, but not sure of the correct code to integrate this.
    Any suggestions anyone?

  • How to add scroll bar to JDesktopPane?

    Hi All,
         After download the "InternalFrameDemo.java" from the swing tutorial, I want to add scrollbars to JDesktopPane so that whenever a internal frame moves off the desktop view port, a scrollbar will display. I have tried many ways to implement this but no success.
    Do you know how to add scrollbars to JDesktopPane?
    Thanks
    Anson

    You can't get there from here! Assuming that wou want is to make the desktop scrollable that is.
    The trick to make somthing scrollable is to make JScrollPane CONTAIN the component to be scrolled. If you could ask the desktop to return the component it contains, you might have a chance but no luck, the desktop pane actually inherits a layered pane which is most likey is what you would like JScrollPane to contain.
    Now here's another angle to this story... the desktop is complex enough without scrollbars, why would you want to complicate things by adding a scroll bar anyway? Say one of its window is maximized and has a scrollbar of its own AND the desktop has one.... that makes TWO scroll bars side by side. Talk about confusing.
    I believe the desktop was designed so scroll bars can't be added for a very good reason: good UI practises.

  • Vertical Scroll bar not using all view port space

    I'm developing an ADF application in 11g to be used on a PC and under the browser on an IPAD.  My top page layout has a panel group layout of scroll.  When the page renders in IE it does not consume all the available viewport.  The vertical scroll bar stops about an inch above the bottom of the page.  On the IPAD, when I have the device in portrait orentation, I only get about half the window area.  I need to have the page render in all the available space on the viewport, especially on the IPAD.  Can anyone tell me how I can get the page to render and take up all the available space in the viewport?

    I did try that.  I was having some issues with trying to put everything I had on the page inside of one.  I think it actuall turned out to be something else.  I was messing around with things on the page fragment.  ADF was adding a scroll bar but not using the whole page to do so.  I took the scroll panel off the page fragment and off of any other page fragment including the actual JSF page.  When I set a large heigth for the page on my top panel group, which I had on the main page that contained the bonded task flow region, I got the browser to create the scroll bar for me for the whole page.  It fixed the problem on the PC and it also fixed the issue I had with the page rendering on the IPAD.  The IPAD now allowed the whole page to be scrolled by sliding your finger.
