Adding an ABAP Web Dynpro application to a Java Web Dynpro screen

Hey fellow SAPers
This is an interesting one .........
We have developed a bespoke ABAP Web Dynpro screen that we want to include into a tabstrip in a Java Web Wynpro application. We have managed to do this by inserting an iFrame into the tabstrip, and then passing the UWL of the ABAP Web Dynpro app. This works. However, life is never that easy and of course whenever the screen is refreshed, the ABAP WD app is called again and so any changes to the data on the ABAP screen are lost as the data in the ABAP app is re-selected and the data returns to it's original state.
Does anyone know:
- of another way to incorporate an ABAP WD screen into a Java WD screen (as a tabstrip)
- how to de-activate a Java view so that the view containing the ABAP WD app is refreshed (i.e. the window is refreshed), the view is not refreshed and the ABAP app is not re-called .....
- any other ideas ....
of course, we could re-develop the same screen in Javam, but that would be too easy
Looking forward to your responses
Jon

I believe it is deprecated in 7.01 and re-supported in 7.02

I'm guessing you want to show this within the WDJ app not above, below to the left, right...
This is a very very difficult thing to do - I'm guessing that you are not actively passing data into the URL of the WDJ IFrame, but just have "decorated" the WDJ app with the a statically linked IFrame. In this case the only thing you have to tie the two together is the user id that you are using - and potentially the time the app was launched. You could in theory use a shared memory area (watch out for multi app server environments) to store the state of the app in case it got refreshed... but this is not a simple thing to do...
Consider if it is absolutely necessary to enhance the WDJ in place - hopefully you can just replace it with a WDA when you install EhP5
Good luck,
Chris

  • Problem with CORBA application deployed using Java Web Start 1_6_0.

Java Web Start fans and experts:
We have been using Java Web Start to deploy the client side of a CORBA-based application since the inception of Java Web Start ... including Java Web Start 1.0 right up through the present.
With Java Web Start 1_6_0, we see evidence that Web Start is "tinkering with" the IOR that CORBA uses to communicate. In all previous versions of Java Web Start, independent of the JRE which the application uses, the stringified IOR have been the same size regardless of whether the application is deployed locally or via Java Web Start. With Java Web Start 1_6_0, the stringified IOR is much longer than the "real" IOR (again, regardless of the JRE used by the application itself). To me this smells like a bug in Java Web Start 1_6_0. Has anyone else observed this behavior?
Here are some specifics .... I've run the same client application with various JREs both with and without Java Web Start as the deployment mechanism. The application was compiled and runs against servers that are running JDK 1_5_0_09.
Here is the summary of my results from a Linux box running various JREs, various versions of Java Web Start, and also running as a non-JWS deployed application. I've listed the length of the stringified IOR in each case.
    JRE 1.5.0 non-JWS client: stringified IOR length = 344
JRE 1.6.0 non-JWS client: stringified IOR length = 344 ... this, I think, excludes the JRE as the cause of these problems.
Java WS 1.5.0, JRE 1.5.0 JWS client: stringified IOR length = 344
Java WS 1.5.0, JRE 1.6.0 JWS client: stringified IOR length = 344
Java WS 1.6.0, JRE 1.6.0 JWS client: stringified IOR length = 1568
Java WS 1.6.0, JRE 1.5.0 JWS cleint: stringified IOR length = 1568
In all cases, the stringified IOR length is determined by the service receiving the message and is always running JRE 1_5_9_09 and is
always the same 344 characters in length UNLESS it was deployed
using Java Web Start 1_6_0, in which case it in nearly 5 times as big!
To me, it sure looks as if there is a problem with Java Web Start 1_6_0 to be adding so much to the stringified IOR. Note: it's hard to tell how different the underlying IOR is in the JWS 1_6_0 case because, unlike most other ORBs, the Sun ORB doesn't have a tool to extract the IOR into a human readable structure. However, I can think of no good reason why the identical application deployed using Java Web Start 1_6_0 should have a stringified IOR length that is different than that of the same application deployed in non-JWS form or should differ from the behavior seen in all previous releases of Java Web Start.
Any clues or suggestions? Has anyone else observed this behavior?
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi.

You were right my XML file was not correct. I still couldn't find a valid JNLP validator. Sun has to provide that.>No they don't (have to supply a validator for their own document type, though it makes sense to do so), but yes they do (provide a tool that validates XML against schemas). Java can validate XML against a DTD or XSD.
Check these two threads (and chase the links) for more details.

I had a tool on my site based largely on Piotr's codes, that linked to a valid JNLP DTD and XSD, but unfortunately my site is offline at the moment. Andy assures me that the JNLP 6.0 DTD has been corrected for the developer ..download tutorials of web start, though the online (web site) version may still be invalid.

  • Calling a web service from BPEL using java web methods

    Hello everyone,
I have an application my BPEL process should connect to. The application which is a web service needs to be called using pre defined web methods defined in java from my bpel process using Jdev 10g. Any suggestions in how I can go about doing that? Please I really need help

    Hi there,
If you have defined already your partner links to the service you can use the BPEL API to invoke them from RMI. See this blog entry
    http://technology.amis.nl/2006/06/08/oracle-bpel-pm-invoking-a-remote-bpel-service-from-java-using-rmi/
It'd be also good if you post the question on the bpel forum BPEL

  • Web app context file in java web server?

I'm being forced to move an application from Tomcat 5.5 to Web Server 6.1. I'm used to putting my app's context information into a context xml file that in Tomcat 5.5 is deployedin in $tomcat_home/conf/Catalina/localhost/. I define my jdbc connection pool there, as well as environment entries for the application. That way I can use the same war file, but run the application with different configuration settings.
It doesn't seem like Web Server 6.1 supports that, or am I missing something in the documentation. I thought the notion of the context file was generic to the servlet container spec even in the 2.3 servlet spec....but maybe that's specific to Tomcat. So now how can I pass environment information to the application?

The SJS webserver does not support context.xml, you are correct.
However, most of the things done in context.xml can be done through other ways.
JDBC conncetion pools are global to the server instance, and are declared in server.xml
    http://docs.sun.com/source/819-0130/agapuirf15.html#wp297682
The web apps descriptors allow to configure web apps parameters. In SJS webserver there are two descriptors, the standard web.xml, and sun-web.xml.
    http://docs.sun.com/source/817-6251/pwadeply.html
Regarding passing environment information, what exactly do you have in mind? the web server supports JNDI resource-env-ref, that can be used to pass environment entries to a web-app.
If you have any particulars needs, or more specific questios, feel free to post them here.

  • Problem to install my web server application on Oracle-Apache web server

I've developed my web site using Sun one studio 4 update 1 in according with the servlet engine version 2.3 (Tomcat 401).
After the compilation I've try to install my site on Oracle-Apache 9i which use the servlet engine version 2.0.
My problem concern that there's an complilation error about the server engine version. How I can update my sun One Studio Tomcat with the servlet engine version 2.0 and where I can find this servlet engine version to tomcat module?
    Many thanks

You really need to upgrade your Oracle application server. Oracle 9iAS release 2 v903 is fully J2EE1.3 compliant and won't give you such problems.
For now, change your session.getAttribute/session.setAttribute calls to session.getValue/session.putValue, which is the deprecated previous api.

  • Application upgrade with Java Web Start

    Dear all,
I need your help for my question.
What I need is the following. I developed an application with javafx. I want to create an exe file with an installar for the application. After application is installed, in a nex momento I want to distruibuite upgrade of application (for bug fixing for example).
I read about Web Start & JNLP but I didn't understood at 100%.
Should I obtain what I need?
That is, user from application clicks on Update button and application is updated to last version?
Or is it useful only for jre update?
PLease help me to understand, I want to know if I can use this technogy for upgrade system of my application.
    Thanks,

Why always expect applications HAVE to run everywhere when the targeted users only dwell on Windows...
So far, I have found JWS to be unreliable for everything and even worse for JavaFX. Tried different settings (background, timout, etc.) in the JNLP for the updates and none work as expected. Basically the app may update but sometimes does not and no one can figure why... Sometime the app installs but JWS only gets a partial download of the JavaFX runtimes and still launches the app which either result in an undecipherable JWS error or the application crashing because some of the JFX base classes are missing. Of course sometimes the install fails and we still get an undecipherable JWS error... Sometimes it fails but the app get installed... sometimes the shortcuts are not installed or they get deleted but no re-created after an update or they loose their icons... and the list goes on and on... arf what a nightmare...
On some computers, offline launch sometime still need a 2 minutes timeout to start on Windows and never start on Linux because... it tries to go online...
Generally speaking for JFX it used to work better in 1.6.0_14 or earlier but each Java 6 release since has make JWS become more and more flawed.
Furthermore, there still the matter of tons of JWS issues that are yet to be corrected, like JWS irremediably crashing it's own cache from time to time or not always updating all the app's JAR files (that error was difficult to isolate and identify) or loosing app reference when updating the JRE. Additionally, the Windows desktop integration still leaves to be desired (app icon looks very bad on recent Windows and for some reason it looks like JWS does not make use of Java2D at all...).
There are ways to create native exe launchers for Java apps like Launch4J and you could make a pure Java app (with a very simple Swing UI) that actually calls the JWS executable to install JNLPs for your JavaFX app. I have done that to distribute a demo of my app on a CD and it usually works most of the time. I say most of the time because I have found some situation while JWS enters a deadlock while trying to register a JNLP and... and then nothing happens.
Additionally JavaFX's licenses prevents from distributing the JavaFX runtimes, so if you want to stay legal you still need to point to the JavaFX JNLP on the JFX site. As an alternate measure I have my launcher detect if there is an internet connection active and then open the browser on the JFX site (I warn the user before doing so) so the runtimes gets pre-loaded before the app is installed. This feels very weak but that was the only real way I could make that work (asking JWS to load the remote JNLP like I do for the local ones usually did not work).
Hopefully at some point they will get rid of that JWS crap, create a good web installer that can aslo be easily used offline and make a API so we can use it from the code... well... I do still hope this may happen some times...

  • Java 7 Update 25 breaks Java Web Start on Mac OS X

    Hello,
After the update on Mac OS X 10.8.4 it is no longer possible to launch Web Start applications. The Java 7 splash screen appears for a brief moment, but the application isn't started. There is a Java Web Start process that remains though. I also tried this on the command-line with the same result.
    Best regards,
    Werner.

As the website said, Java Web Start is only supported on Mac OS X 10.1.
    http://java.sun.com/products/javawebstart/
    Cheers,
    A.A.
I would like to know if Java Web Start works on Mac OS
8 and 9. If the answer is yes, would you please let
me know what is the package to download to achieve
that? I would also like people's comment on how
easy/hard is Java Web Start works, if it is buggy, and
how well it is working on Mac OS. I am evaluating
whether we are going to incorporate this technology
into our application. I would highly appreciate your
    input.

  • Connect Web Dynpro Application to a Web service

    Hi experts,
I am trying to connect a Web Dynpro application to a SOAP Web service.
I have downloaded the WDSL code and save it to a file in my hard disk.
I used the create model wizard (Import adaptive web service model) and created a model in my Web Dynpro application.
I have connected the component controller with the model and the view of the application to the controller.
All content node elements that have created automatically in the model, have in cardinality property the value 0..1.
I created input elements in the view but they are gray and not available (disabled).
The read only properity of the input elements has the value "false".
I tried to initiate the input element by putting the following code in wdDoInit() but with no luck.
    wdContext.nodeRequest_ProcessTransaction().nodeProcessTransaction().nodeTransactionRequest().nodeHeader().nodeMerchantInfo().currentMerchantInfoElement().setAcquirerID("xxxx");
    Can someone help with this?
    Thanks in Advanced.

    Hi,
After importing the model, you need to create the instance for the model. Instantiate the Request object and then set the input parameters. Then you have to call the execute function, then the model will be executed and you will get  the data.
Also instead of putting the code which you have wriiten in init, you can use:
    wdContext.nodeMerchantInfo().currentMerchantInfoElement().setAcquirerID("xxxx");
You can directly access the node, no need to traverse the whole hierarchy.
    Regards,
    Manoj

  • Import web service from service registry into web dynpro

HI, when i import web service into web dynpro model, it asks me to create service group or if i choose no service group configure, it ask me the destionation for metadata and excution. i import service from service registry. what does the service configuration mean? and if i choose no service group, where should i configure the destination?thanks

    Hi Lei,
The metadata and execution destinations are relevant for runtime. On runtime you web dynpro application will access the web services you imported via these two destinations.
You can configure the metadata and execution destinations in the following location:
login on the CE system Netweaver Administrator: http://hostname:portnumber/nwa
On NWA navigate to SOA Management --> Technical Configuration --> Destination Template Management.
In this section of NWA you can define the Metadata and Execution destinations for your web services.

  • Unable to run my application using java web start

i have created one application and use java web start to download the application. all the files are succesfully downloaded but when i try to run the application an expected error occur. this only happen in my machine but not in other machine i'm currently using
    -jsdk1.4.2
    -windows 2000 professional 5.00.2195 service pack 3
    -pentium III 870 Mhz
    -x86-based PC
    -RAM 256 Mhz
Anyone knows why, plz help me with this puzzle

Please post the information from the Web Start "Exception" and "Wrapped Exception" tabs when the error occurs (I assume the error was in fact unexpected ;-)
A blind stab in the dark would be that you don't have write permission to the cache directory on the second machine. Also worth checking that the proxy settings on the second machine are the same as the first (if they are on the same network).

  • Not getting application in Java Web Start

    Hello Sir,
I wanted to run an application using Java Web Start. So, I created a jnlp file and i have mentioned the necessary jar files and the main class file. when I clicked on the jnlp file, the application is running in the Server using Java Web Start and its shortcuts are creates on the desktop and in the startmenu. I am able to run the application by clicking on the shortcut in the server. But I am unable to Download the application in the Java Web Start. It is not showing any Error Messages and the application is not running in the cleint machines.
The contents of the jnlp file is as follows.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

"I am unable to Download the application in the Java Web Start"
If webstart in not actually downloading the jar - is the jar in the correct location?
Is the server named dev01 and the directory structure actually /Dummy/New?
Note: you do need to set up the mine type JNLP on your server,
In my case the location of the JNLP file and main jar file passport is in the following directory.
    c:\Inetpub\WIMRoot\application
    The additional jars are in
    c:\Inetpub\WIMRoot\application
I hope this may give you some clue

  • Copy file from client PC to server in a web deployed application

I have developed one application using Oracle forms 6i, which is deployed on the web server.
I run this application from a client PC in Internet Explorer using internet.
I want to copy one file from the client PC to the web server.
    I have done following things
    - Created a shared folder on the server and given full rights to every one on this folder
    - I use 'net use' command in my program to connect to this shared folder
    - I use copy command to copy file from local client pc to server. This copy command I am executing using host command of my programming (PL/SQL: eg. host('copy abc.txt \\server\share\') )
    But this does not work.
When I do the same thing in command window, it works.
(ie. Start-Run cmd to open command window and then type the above copy command)
Can you please tell me, how to copy a file from client PC to the sever in Web deployed application?
    Thanks

I downloaded D2KWUtil from the link suggested by you. It has very nice example demo form. But the documentation provided says following
Using D2KWUTIL in Web Deployed Applications
The use of this library is not supported with Web deployed applications.
In a web deployment scenario not all functions within D2KWUTIL will work. Any function that interacts with the User Interface (such as those in the WIN_API_DIALOG package) will fail.
Any interaction with the O/S by other functions will all be executed on the NT server and will act within, or return information pertinant to, the environment on that machine. For instance GET_COMPUTER_NAME will return the Server’s name, not the name of the computer that the Client browser is running on. Likewise COPY_FILE will copy files in the Forms Server not on the Client.
Functions such as those in WIN_API_BITOP will continue to work without change.
so this will not work in web deployed application.
    Any other suggestion?
    Thanks
