Adding dateTime value in yyMMddHHmmss

Hi All,
I am using MSSQL Data Base. I have a requirement to store the date value in the form of yyMMddHHmmss. I am able to get the date value in the above format. But when I try to insert the value into the DB its throwing an Exception. The code to insert the value is as follows: -
String DATE_FORMAT = "yyMMddHHmmss";
SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat(DATE_FORMAT);
Calendar c1 = Calendar.getInstance();
preparedStmt.setString(5,sdf.format(c1.getTime());

But when I try to insert the value into the DB its throwing an Exception. The code to insert the value is as follows: - Which would suggest to me that the data type in the table is not in fact a varchar. Or some other error. Which the text of the message would tell you.
