Adding GIF to Color Matte

I created a color matte with a white background. Now I wish to add a gif on top of that so I can add a title. How do I overlay (is that the right word?) a gif on a color matte? What I am trying to do is create a white background that matches the white background of a gif I will be using for my titles, credits, etc. I have a color matte made in white and I have a gif. How do I put them together?
Thanks!
Marie

Marie,

  • Need to mask a color matte

    Hi all,
I'm (re) learning Premiere (CS6), transitioning off of FCP 7. In FCP 7, I constantly used the color matte feature, made it black, 70% opacity and added a soft focus to it (shown below).
I do this to draw attention to an area of the screen I want the viewer to focus on (usually software demos highlighting a feature).
In Premiere, I've gotten as far as adding a black color matte with 70% opacity. That covers the entire image with the matte. Now how do I cut through the matte? Scale Height/Width changes the matte itself, but I want to do the reverse, like the photo below. In FCP mattes can be scaled horizontally and vertically, producing the desired effect, below.
I'm still learning this tool, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

There are many ways to skin this cat. For nice straight lines like your example, try this:
For the purposes of being able to see this better, I created a green (0,0,255) matte to put on the sequence fist.
Create a title. Draw a rectangle that takes up approximately one third of the frame. I used a rectangle that is 1280X240. Set it to be 70% black.
Copy the rectangle and paste the copy at the bottom of the frame.
Your result should look like this:
When put over the timeline, apply a Fast Blur set to Vertical and 25% or so.
This isn't the best image for this example but it is what I had on hand:
For something a little different, use a track matte made with a title if you wish. With the original on track one and the copy on track two, darken the clip on track two. I prefer to darken track two and reverse but you can darken one if you wish. You can do this with Brightness and Contrast or you can get fancy with color correction.
Create a title with a white circle or oval or whatever, placed over the subject to be highlighted. (Multiple shapes can be combined in the title)
Apply the track matte to the clip on track two. Check the Reverse checkbox.
    Simple. Looks like this:
I didn't blur the matte this time, but I could have. This one would be blurred in the vertical and in the horizontal.
Please note that this does not like changes to the Motion Effect. If you are resizing the clip or image, remember to put the matte in a new sequence and nest the new sequence to be used as the matte.
Now, if you really, really want to blur the edges of the garbage matte, apply the Roughen Edges effect, set the border to 25 and the edge sharpness to zero. Max out the scale for more accurate edges.

  • Free transform a color matte...

    Hi,
There's a very simple thing i'm trying to do that's puzzling me...
I'm working on a split screen. On the right, I have graphics. On the left, i have a talking head. THe talking head frame has 3 different sizes that i juggle with.
I'm just trying to create a thin Vertical line that will act as a border between the graphics and the talking head.
I can ofcourse do this by distancing the two frames, but i'd rather have a thin black line i can just copy paste over.
The obnly way i found to do this was to transform a color matte. But even by changing the aspect in the motion tab, i can't get it thin enough. There must be an easier way to free transform a shape, and to do this directly in the viewer no?
    thanks for your help...

    Thanks David,
Croping is what i'll end up doing. But isn't there a way to change the aspect directly via wireframe in the viewer. Using the wireframe, i can change the scale, and rotation, but how do i unlock the aspect proportions?
    thanks

  • Is it possible to give an added row a Color.

Hello I read data of a txtfile and than place the data in a jtable.
I know how to give a selected row an other color but my question is:
Is it possible to give an added row a Color.
I make the new row this way
    moddellist.addRow(new Object[]{data,""});
Now I want this added row red is this possible.
I don't know what the rowIndex or Cell number is.

The colour of a cell in a JTable is assigned by a TableCellRenderer. If you look at how that works, all it knows is the object in the cell, the table, the row and column number, and whether the cell is selected or focussed. It doesn't care when things happened.
So if you want your TableCellRenderer to colour your cells based on something that isn't in that list, then you have to modify the design of your object, the one in the cell, so that it contains information the cell renderer can use to decide what colour to render it.
Based on your description I can't say much more than that, because it's hardly a complete description of how the colour scheme is supposed to work.
And by the way the people in the Swing forum are better at answering Swing questions.

  • New Item- Color Matte

    Hello Everyone.
Inside After Effects I can apply an Effect Into a Solid. But, we don't have that Solid In Premiere Pro CC 2014.
I used the Color Matte, with Black Color,  and I did apply different Effects.
Is this similar like using the Solid In After Effects ?
So, Technically,  what would be the different of using Color Matte, or an Adjustment Layer ?
    Thanks.

Please make a feature request. I did, because i want a eyedropper for the color matte too.

  • Color Mattes only resize proportionatelly

I am trying to create a simple green rectangle, but this has proven a herculean feat. After much research as to how to make a color layer, I created a green color matte in the project assets area and dragged it in. Now, it doesnt let me simply resize the shape to make it thinner. It only lets me rezise proportionally as though I was holding SHIFT. How can I make a simple gree rectangle without having to add a "mask" effect? Also, when I am creating my Color Matte, it doesnt let me use the eye-drop color pickker to choose a color from my project. How can I make the color matte a color I choose with the eye-drop color picker tool?

Something for you to consider for your Color Matte color matched with a color that is part of another image on the Timeline.
Given you have a photo on the Timeline. The photo shows a red rose whose red color you want to capture in a Color Matte from Project Assets/View/New Items/Color Matte.
Photo on Video 1. Side by side the Color Matte (any color).
Select the Color Matte clip and, from fX Effects, drag the effect Image Control/ “Color Replace” into the Color Matte clip.
Then, with the Color Matte clip selected go to Applied Effects Tab/Applied Effects Palette/Color Replace Panel expanded.  (Keep away from the Setup icon on the Color Replace Panel.
Keep the Color Matte clip highlighted, and move the Timeline Indicator to the left to be on the photo clip which is NOT SELECTED.
Important: At this point, the photo is not selected, but the Timeline Indicator is positioned on it so that the photo is displayed in the monitor. The Color Matte is selected so that the Color Replace Panel expanded is visible to the right.
With the mouse cursor, left click once on JUST the eyedrapper for the Replace Color option in the expanded portion of the Color Replace Panel. Move the mouse cursor (which presents as an eyedropper) over to the red rose on Edit Mode Monitor screen. Click on the red rose.
Take a look at the resulting color for the Color Matte. How close did you come for a color match?
After that you can use the Color Replace Panel's Setup icon to fine tune with a check mark next to Solid Colors and adjusts from the Sensitivity Slider.

  • Color Matte Glitch...

I am using the matte color in FCP5 for a music video. I basically am using it to create flashes of color... the problem is when I playback... in the timeline viewer the color either doesn't appear or it glitches and instead of the color it shows a quick snapshot of a clip further down the timeline.
When I export the video it is basically fine... but there is no way for me to know what the final product will look like because of these glitches.
Any ideas what the problem it?

I don't have an external NTSC monitor... but I might get one.
I don't believe my system has changed prior to this behavior...
This is the first time I have seen this problem but its also basically the first time I have used the color matte in this style.
I will try in another project and see if the problems accur again.
Thanks for the help. Heres the clip I am working on.... The places that I have problems with are where the red flashes at the title text and towards the end with the white flash and the yellow flash...

  • Animated gif changes color palette while playing

    Hi everyone,
I've been creating animted gifs using Matlab and the ImageMagick suite (convert). If I open the gifs in Preview, the color comes out fine in each frame; however i I use Quicktime (which is necessary, that's what we use for presentations) the color palette will change as the frames play.
I just got the newest version of Quicktime, hoping that it would solve the problem, but it didn't. Any ideas?

I'm not familiar to the software but I can guess what is happening.
Too many colors. A GIF is 8 bit (256 colors) but some of them are not used by all software. Windows and Mac's are different.
Does the software offer a way to reduce the number of colors used? Can you get it down to 8 bit? Can you discard unused colors with some other software?
Have you considered building an image sequence movie? These allow many different images formats and support up to 32 bit formats (millions of colors).
QuickTime Pro ($30) can import a series of images as a movie. The file size is much smaller than any video format used today (just the total of the images file size).

  • Changing animated gif's colors

    Hi,
I'm using Fireworks CS5. I opened an animated gif and I wanted to replace some of the colors with other colors and have it do this for the entire animation. I know that I can simply change the colors by going to the Optimize panel and select one of the colors in the palette to change it. But I want to use an exact color by pasting in the color's HTML hex code and I can't find a way to do that. I tried using the "Replace Palette entry" option and pasting in the code there. But while the color in the palette window changed correctly, the color on the actual gif was wrong (for instance, I changed an orange to a gray, but the preview image simply replaced the original orange with a different orange instead of the gray I wanted).
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

The replace palette entry feature only works on vectors. Your GIF animation is a bitmap. I'm afrad the only choice you've got is to hand color each state, or recreate the animation with the colors you like.

  • DWCS3 gif image color anomoly

Okay, this is weird. I created a web site in DW8. All looked
good and displays fine in browser. I just downloaded CS3 and opened
the same site and now one specific GIF is not displaying correctly.
In Photoshop or Mac Preview, the GIF looks as expected (black on
top, blue on bottom), but in DW the image is not even close to the
same color. I'm not talking display calibration diferences, I mean
    the color is completely different.
The best way to show what I mean is for you to see the screen
captures. This URL shows how DW displays the GIF and how all other
    apps display it:
    DW view:
    http://warrenize.com/stuff/dw_view.jpg
    Other apps view:

Is this a DW bug, or user error, or what?

    Please contact Technical Support.

  • White color matte renders out grey in VLC?

On the right side is how the video displays in Premiere cc 2014 and on the left is how it appears in VLC. Looks almost like there's some alpha information in the video but there's no alpha channel in h.264 as far as I know. What's weirder is if I play the video in Media Player it looks like it does in Premiere. Anyone know what's going on here and to get the white matte background to playback white in VLC?
    thx,
    Jayson

Yep, but i understanding that !
-> with my crappy tweak :
By "uniform" i want to say : white a "less grey" with my settings, but there are other color shift on each videoplayer, yes.
exemple : "my clients" don't see the difference or dont think its a big issue. On vimeo white are straight to white but grey a little, and in youtube its pure white.
They dont see the diffenrence before i notice them of that. And i recommand to them the youtube solution with no crappy color tweak an no Nvidia setting to set. (Nvidia solution is complicated for them... They are affraid about the first judgement or their client if there is grey and white like first post in topic)
Its a crappy way, i know its not litterally uniform, as i say : "trying to give an "uniform". I trying by this way to give the "illusion".
I think my method is not a good way its just a workaround for client how want VLC and vimeo final viewer (vimeo have the same issue)
    -> with nvidia solution :
I agree with you at 100% for this tweak is risky and crap and in the future have the risk of find other majors issues by this way.
Nvidia solution is the only for have a perfect same a source.
Nvidia solution is the better solution yes, and we do not have to put multiple effect to "try to be straight" as the original non modified footage.
Thank for your time and your answer.
But i search a definitive answer about that : Is the issue of the first post reveal a problem in my workflow, or its only and only an crooked video player issue
Sorry for the different misintepretation, i am not english good speaker/writer.

  • Underwater Photos: Anyone use Ilife for adding back red colors?

I use Ilife for my organizing my underwater photos. Often they are not truly representative because of the loss of red. Some programs have filters that are designed specifically for underwater corrections. Does anyone know of one that will work with Ilife.
    Thanks so much.
    Skip

Photoshop or Photoshop Elements has tools for color corrections. You can set the white point and have all color in the photo adjusted based on that white point. Or shift the colors yourself by adding red, reducing blue, etc. until you get the look you want. I just don't know of an automatic Underwater correction.

  • Adding GIF images to a stand-alone program

To add a GIF image to an applet one can use the "getImage" function defined in the applet class.
How do i add an image to a stand-alone program in java when one doesn't extend the Applet class ( and so one doesn't have access

  • Adding a "custom" color to a user defined tag ?

How can I add my own user defined "color" to a new tag I create in the Finder ?
    Thx

    Hi a_mumford,
Using tags is a great way to stay organized. I use this feature quite a bit. I've linked to an article which explains how to use and edit them:
OS X Yosemite: Use tags to organize files
    Edit tags
In the Finder, choose Finder > Preferences, click Tags, then do any of the following:
See a tag in the Finder sidebar: Select the blue checkbox to the right of the tag.
Change a tag color: Click the color next to the tag , then choose a new color.
Change a tag name: Click the tag, click the tag’s name, then enter a new name.
Create a new tag: Click Add .
Delete a tag: Select the tag, then click Remove .
Add a tag to the shortcut menu: Select the tag in the list, then drag it over the tag you want to replace in the favorites section at the bottom of the window. There can be up to seven tags in the shortcut menu that appears when you Control-click a file.
Remove a tag from the shortcut menu: Drag the tag out of the Favorite Tags section until you see a puff of smoke.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
