Adding network route to production router

Hello,
If I add a new bgp routes to a production router for new vlans networks to be advertise will that slow down the network for a bit or affect other devices that are in other networks that are currently advertise on the router?
Thanks,

The following should work, just add the -netmask switch.
route add net 172.19.0.0 -netmask 255.255.0.0 172.18.60.4 1

  • Adding Static Routes for VLANS

We have 3 servers each in a different vlan and 1 server is a Bordermanager.
We added network routes to 2 server and all the vlans can see them, the
Bordermanager already has a default route that takes it out on the
internet, when we try to add a private network number of the vlans, it does
not see the other vlans. What is the correct way to do this or is there?
    Thank you...

    Ok Craig,
There are only 2 vlans, VLAN1 has all the servers, VLAN2 has all the users,
a Cisco router supposedly does the routing between both VLANS because the
router protocol supports ISL. Rip has been removed from the servers. The
Bordermanager Server is in VLAN1, the problem is that all the servers you
can change the Static Route to the VLAN2 that has all the users, but the
Border cannot because it's static route goes out to the internet and it
doesn't let you make a change, would a 3 card in the Border help? Thanxs...

  • Adding a route to a non pingable router

I want to add a route to a network that is routed by a firewall. This firewall can't be ping.
My question is 'How can I add this route ?" because when I try to add the route manually
    route add net 172.19.0.0 255.255.0.0 172.18.60.4 1
    The reply is :
add net 172.19.0.0: gateway 255.255.0.0: Network is unreachable
With the HP-UX server, there is an option in the /dev/ip module that tells the routing to NOT ping a gateway when adding a route but this variable ip_ire_gw_probe doesn't exist on Solaris.
Is there somebody who had an idea ?
    Gilles.

The following should work, just add the -netmask switch.
    route add net 172.19.0.0 -netmask 255.255.0.0 172.18.60.4 1

  • Solaris 11 host no longer sees a ZyXEL wifi network router

This issue is on a Toshiba Tecra M10 running Oracle Solaris 11.1 SRU 0.5.11-0.175.1.0.0.24.2
The once functional wifi network iwh0 (net1) no longer sees a ZyXEL NBG-416N wifi network router.
The e1000g (net0) can connect to the router when direct connected via TP ethernet cable from the laptop wired ethernet port.
There are other wifi networks visible from iwh0 (net1) when the command 'dladm scan-wifi' is run.
When attempting to connect with the 'dladm connect-wifi' command (I know the command is good I recall it from the shell command history) .. I get "no wifi networks with the specified criteria are available"
The laptop is able to connect to one of the other wifi routers over this interface however not my own router (which appears to no longer be visible from Solaris 11.1).
I am able to connect to it from an HTC mobile phone and a Windows 7 laptop.
Removed wifi cache file /system/volatile/dladm/network-datalink-management:default.cache.0 and rebooted. No joy.
If I boot from the Solaris 11 DVD, I can still not see the expected wifi router.
At this point I am suspecting the ethernet address of the M10 iwh0 (net1) interface.
'dladm show-phys -m' lists the interface ethernet mac addresses (even if not plumbed).
Connected to the router (from alternative system, over wifi) and looked around. Noted the logs had a messages "possible DNS-rebind attack detected: a-0.19-*8d9zff4tq7njzcj.avts.mcafee.com" that seemed to start about the time I lost sight of the network? Can no longer say for sure as I restarted the router and it seems to have lost those log entries.
Contacted the ISP who provided the ADSL/router for use with their FTTC service offering - they are not aware of any 'protection mechanism' on the router that might mask a misbehaving mac-address.
Tried changing the mac-address on the iwh interface with 'dladm set-linkprop -p mac-address=06:05:04:03:02 net1' and ran 'dladm scan-wifi' without success (then reboot with 'init 5') resets to original but after reconfiguring again -still not available.
If anyone can help .. perhaps having seen something like this and solved it .. or even simply help with better troubleshooting, please advise.

Okay .. I changed the routers 'channel selection' from 13 to 7 and this wifi router network ESSID is again visible to the Solaris 11 instance. I expect the other OS's cater for this a little more elegantly?
    ~ # dladm show-linkprop net1 | grep -i channel
    net1     channel             r-   7            --           --
    ~ #
It seems the channel property wont be visible unless there is a connection (I suppose obviously).
I expect another router has moved into the radius close enough to interfere?

  • Adding a route in solaris

I added a route in solaris by command-->
    route add 10.224.86.10 -netmask 255.255.255.224 10.224.8.10
it gave the prompt--add net 10.224.56.0: gateway 10.224.8.10
I checked the routing table by netstat -r
    10.224.86.10 10.224.8.10 UG 1 0
which shows that it is added
but i am not able to ping it from that server
    ping 10.224.86.10
    gives
    no answer from 10.224.86.10
    What is the reason?
    Thanks

    Hi
You cannot add a route in appliance. You can only setup a default gateway on the appliance.
All the routing decisions should be taken by default gateway of the appliance.

Re:  Wireless network, router WRT150N.  Recently installed in network.
My son is having trouble with his World of Warcraft latency.  It starts off excellent but tanks in about 10 secs after he starts playing.  I've concluded it must be something with the router.  I've tried most of the WoW fixes for latency, but I get same behaviour.
I note some other message threads of same problem, but no fixes.  Anybody help?

Log into 192.168.1.1 on your browser (no username, password is admin). Set the MTU to manual and change the size to 1400. Check WoW documentation for tcp/udp ports that need to be opened on the router.
    Keep us posted! (",)
The box said windows xp or better... So I installed Linux!

  • Set Static (Persistent) Networking Route

I've been pouring over the internet looking for a solution to my problem. I am very new to Apple and am attempting to access an AS/400 system at my work. I have the documents on how to set it up properly in a windows environment but nothing for a Mac and my corporate support doesn't 'do' macs.
Basically I need to set a static network route. The Windows command looks like this:
    route add -p 42.0.0.0 mask 255.0.0.0 42.242.80.193
How can I get this working on my macbook pro? Please be gentle as I'm as green as they come!
Thank you in advance for any assistance you may offer.

Open the Terminal app and type in *man route* for instructions on using the route command
Or search Google for the Unix route command

  • Properly Define Network Routing Definition for Mac OS X Server

    Hello,
I have am unable to get my Mac server (10.6.8) VPN to work from outside our firewall (which is a SonicWall TZ-210).  All the necessary ports are opened on the firewall but the Mac server does not appear to be properly configured to route the VPN traffic back through the SonicWall.  I suspect my Network Routing Definitions are wrong but I can not find any other threads that show how these should be defined in this scenario.
The current Network Routing Definitions are...
Network Address = my public IP
Network Mask = my public network mask
    Network Type = Public
    Network Address = 192.168.1.0
    Network Mask = 255.255.255.0
    Network Type = Private
I have followed this article for the most part.

    I greatly appreciate the assistance!

All our DNS, Web, and email run on our server and we were lost to the world for those 10 days!
We have now upgraded to higher speed Time Warner broadband service for our primary, but still want to retain the Verizon DSL for redundancy.
Our hope is that if we have any connectivity issues with one, the other will hopefully be functioning and carry us through.
Not answering what you are asking, but addressing the redundancy issue ...
If you have a disaster like Sandy, with damage over a wide area, how sure are you that one of your connections will work? If for example the cabling is going through a common duct somewhere, your redundancy could be only theoretical. I know an installation that wanted reliable, disaster-proof communications, and paid for three services - and was offline when a builder a couple of miles up the road put his digger (back hoe?) through the shared pipe. Unless you can get guaranteed separation of service, it is not worth the extra cost and effort. Consider instead moving your server to a data centre, where they will already have addressed the issue, and your total cost may be no greater.

  • Wired network router

I have a house that is wired with CAT5 ethernet cables and has desktops connected to some of the cables.  The cables all terminate in a box in the basement.  For the past 16  years the cable modem connected to a Linksys router for a wired network which in turn connected to a network switch.  Wifi was provided by an access point at the end of one of the runs of CAT5 ethernet cabling. This setup worked just great. After 15 years, the Linksys router died. (No shame there on Linksys. 16 years is a decent working life.)  Now I need to find a new wired router for a home network.  (It is pointless installing a wireless router in the basement.)  The initial purchase, because it seemed simple, was a Trendnet $20 cable/modem router.  (This was the only home wired router that I could find.) For whatever reason, this router is not compatible with the dynamic IP addresses that the cable modem has.  Consequently, the router is set to a fixed IP address and I need to reprogram the router every time Comcast switches the IP address on my modem. After having Trendnet customer service show me how to this twice, I may have figured out how to do this on my own. Clearly an unacceptable situation. I am looking for a recommendation for a new wired router. Anyone have experience with a wired network router in a home setting or even in the small business setting that was not too hard to set up and that they would recommend? When asked, Comcast had no suggestions.  I know the home wired router market is a dying market.  I am not interested in putting in a wifi router where the wifi is useless because of the basement location.  The cable modem is a relatively new DOCSIS 3.0 Motorola SurfBoard modem.  Should I replace this with a cable modem/router combination equipment? Should I just get a static IP address from Comcast?  Anyone know what that would cost?

Most routers, even if it has wireles capability, have at least 4 LAN ports for hard wire connections.  If 4 is not enough, then also get a simple switch box to provide additional ports.Once it is set up, then disable the WIFI in the router.

  • Adding static route on OSX server 10.4.3

    Hi,
In the past one was able to add the following command to the Network file to set-up a permanent route.
    route add -net <network> <router>
The Network folder in StartUp Items no longer exists where is the best place to add this now.
    regards,
    Paddy

Not necessarily, Polar. There are many cases where you need to control routing at a host level, not just at the router level.
For example, assume your system was dual-homed (has two active ethernet connections) using 192.168.1.x on en0 and 10.1.1.x on en1, with 192.168.1.1 (en0) as your default route.
Now assume that the router at 10.1.1.1 on the en1 network acts as a gateway to the 10.2.2.x subnet. You need to tell your machine to route 10.2.2.x through 10.1.1.1. Default routing won't do this - the system will send all non-local traffic to 192.168.1.1. Unless 192.168.1.1 also has a path to 10.2.2.x, that traffic isn't going to go anywhere, and putting a link between the public router and the 10.2.2.x network might be a security risk.
Therefore the solution is to tell your machine to route 10.2.2.x through the 10.1.1.1 router via a static route on the host.

Yes add them. How ever, if you do not add them you will not get any error. But while editing the condition editor in Receiver agreement or Interface Determination, you will not get the source msg structure.
So it is better to add them.

  • Network Errors Adding New Router

    Hello,
I posted this in the iChat forum earlier today but I think this would a better forum to ask this question. We were using a D-Link DI-604 Wired Router for about 5 years until yesterday when we purchased a new D-Link EBR-2310 Wired Router. Ever since connecting the new router, about every 15 to 30 minutes in the console log on my iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, I get the following errors now:

This never happened with the old router and I can't figure out what is causing this (I keep a close watch on my console log and I know for sure that this problem just started since connecting the new router). The new router is cascaded to an older Farallon 10Mbps ethernet hub (exactly the same way the old router was set up) so at first, I thought the errors may have been due to the fact that I had the WAN Port Speed of the new router set to "Auto 10/100Mbps" causing my iMac to (unsuccessfully) try to negotiate a faster port speed. On the old router, we had the WAN Port Speed set to 10Mbps and I never noticed any of these errors so I changed the WAN Port Speed on the new router to 10Mbps instead of "Auto 10/100Mbps" and we're still getting the same thing happening.
I've tried connecting my iMac directly to the router and directly to the cascaded Farallon 10Mbps ethernet hub and either way, it makes no difference. Our internet connection works fine but we get the odd error when sending a print job to our networked HP LaserJet with the new router. Does anyone with any networking experience have any idea what can be causing this? Is there a way to change the 10/100Mbps speed on the iMac itself rather than on the router?
    Thanks so much,
    Gerard

Is there a way to change the 10/100Mbps speed on the iMac itself rather than on the router?
    System Preferences/Network/Advanced/Ethernet - Configure manually
The book on this router at Newegg is that it works for some people, but others using Vista notice the router can't handle multiple users very well. Disconnects, slow throughput, resets. It's not a very costly router, and hasn't had a firmware update since 2007. Maybe Vista pushes it too hard?
I'm just guessing that the deadmanCheck reference in the error is some sort of test to see if anybody is there and when the router doesn't respond, the Mac reset's it's ethernet chips.
Since you've had so many problems with the programs, firewall and port routing, and incomprehensible tech support, you might look at one of the competitors products that can keep up with your equipment.

  • Adding wireless router to wired home network

I have a home network consisting of two PC's which share a satellite internet connection via a wired BEFSX41 router.   The PC's and router/satellite modem are in three separate rooms connected by Cat5e cable.
Now I want to add a new laptop (third PC) to my network using a WRT54G router and a WPC54G notebook adapter.  I just ran the WRT54G wizard and it makes no sense for my configuration.
Should I connect the WRT54G's internet port to a spare port on the wired router, then power up wired, wireless routers and the modem in sequence?   Then run the program at the final step of the wizard one of my original PC's?  Any help will be appreciated.

Cleck this link out. The only thing I would do is make sure you connect the cable from a numberd port to ort number 1 on the wireless router and set up the SSID and wireless security.  Make sure you have the latest firmware on the wireless router because in this configuration you will not be able to access its user interface.

  • Adding another router to my Time Capsule's existing network.

Here's the situation: I live in a tri-level house with my TC on the 1st floor. My room, on the top floor, has bad reception (in certain spots, full bar, in others, half to no bars at all). Until I can afford to get an Airport Express to extend the wireless N reception, I thought I'd use my old Netgear router that has wirelss G with MIMO. The problem that I'm having now is that I don't know how to (or if I can) set up the Netgear router to extend the range of my TC's network (even though I know I'm sacrificing the speed of the connection by doing this). So, for you networking geniuses out there, is there any way I can do this? Also, while I'm asking questions here, why is my connection so hit or miss in my room?

first, isn't my TC essentially already running in "dual-mode" as it's backwards compatible with 802.11b/g?
Not quite. "Dual-mode," in this case, means running separate 802.11n only and 802.11b/g networks. 802.11b/g clients would NOT be able to access the 802.11n only network.
And second, with the "roaming" network, do I have to have my Netgear already hooked up to my Time Capsule via ethernet or are you suggesting that I go through set up with the ethernet connection and then I can place the Netgear in my room with the network expanded (with the b/g connection)?
In a "roaming" network each of the routers would need to be connected to an Ethernet backbone. So if your house is already wired for Ethernet this would be ideal. So in my suggestion, both the TC and the Netgear would have to be connected by Ethernet, either directly to each other or both connected to an Ethernet circuit on the same subnet.
To get a better idea of what I'm referring to, take a look at page 40 & 41 of the Designing AirPort Network document.

  • Added another router to UC320 W network

We are currently using a UC320W for our router, phone system, and wireless.  We are wanting to add a device for VPN connections.  I was wanting to find out if we could disable the routing on the UC320 W and just have it on the lan and the wireless as an Access Point?  Basically install another firewall or router in front of it to handle the routing, dhcp, dns, and vpn connections.  Has anybody attempted this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

We've not found a way to disable the routing on the UC320. What we ended up doing was giving the UC320 its own public IP, then disable the DHCP/DNS options for it and place another router (a pfSense firewall) in parallel with it.
