Adding text to a text file problem

I have used an Apple script to create a text file and I am having problems with it
First the script creates a file containing text, as a example "ABCDE" then I enter test to the file, say "12345" and the file now has "ABCDE12345". At this point I run my Apple Script to add more data to the file, in this case "FGHIJ".
The problem I am having is the file does not contain "ABCDE12345FGHIJ" as I expect, but instead has "ABCDEFGHIJ" because the EOF was not updated when I added "12345".
I typed the additional text into the text window and saved it to the disk and even closed the window, quit TextEdit and reloaded the file but the results were "ABCDEFGHIJ" and not "ABCDE12345FGHIJ"

After installing, Reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
The 6 things it does are...
Correct any Disk problems.
Repair Permissions.
Clear out Cache Files.
Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
Delete old Log files.

Hi Vidula,
Is it only when you add a space to the file name that you see this behavior? If, for instance, you add a '1' to the beginging of the file name does the same thing happen?

Indesign CS3-JS - Problem in reading text from a text file

Can anyone help me...
I have an problem with reading text from an txt file. By "readln" methot I can read only the first line of the text, is there any method to read the consecutive lines from the text file.
Currently I am using Indesign CS3 with Java Script (for PC).

If you want to use readln, you'll have to iterate. I don't see a for loop in your example, so you're not iterating. To see how it works, take a closer look at FindChangeByList.jsx--you'll see that that script iterates to read the text file line by line (until it reaches the end of the file).

IDML file problems - text disappears & unselectable when found

Hi,
My first question here.
I use Adobe CS5.5 and I need to export .indd files into the .idml format so they are readable by my translation software.
I exported my file to idml, but when I open this file, I get a "unable to set bounding box message", and all the text has disappeared from the text boxes. When I toggle the text box (make it bigger), I find the text, but I am unable to select it. Saving the idml file as indd doesn't make any difference.
My translation software actually reads the idml and my translated text is there when I re-export it, but still not visible on normal view, and still not selectable (so I can't cut and paste it back into my original indd file).
I have tried various "unlock" suggestions found on other forums, but nothing is working. I have installed all the CS5.5 updates... I am wondering if there is a problem with my original file.
Any help most appreciated, I've been grappling with this all morning.

Ok, this problem is half-solved, and there's a few leads.
It turns out the text is selectable, it just doesn't show it has been selected (no blocking shows), and this was also also the case I realise with the original .indd file. This resolves the situation for my practical purposes, as I can copy and paste my (translated) text from the idml file back into the original .indd file.
Still don't know why the text disappeared from the boxes in the first place, or the relationship to the "bounding box", but it seems likely the whole thing is derived from issues with the original file.

But actually I don't want to show the \ (backslashes) to the user in my text box.
Ok let me elaborate this problem little more.
I want to show my text box as it is in normal editors e.g. In Matlab editor. There is a text box and on left side the gray bar shows the line numbers corresponding to the text. Further more i want that the user should be able to click on any line number to mark specific line as breakpoint (red circle or any graphical indication for mark).

UCM 11.1.1.4 : indexation : Text conversion of the file failed

I'm facing an indexation issue with MS Office files, pdf, ...
For instance :
Text conversion of the file '/opt/oracle/middlewarehome/ucm/cs/weblayout/groups/public/documents/document/mdaw/mdaw/~edisp/virtuoz2dev000342.doc' failed.
Content has been indexed with Info only. Resubmit should only be performed if the problem has been resolved.
This a new installation of UCM 11.1.1.4 with Oracle DB 10.2.0.5.2 and WLS 10.3.4, all on a SUSE10 server.

Adding hyperlinks to CP4 text

Can anyone help with advise on how to add a hyperlink to text
in Captivate 4. The hyperlinks from PowerPoint seem, to work, but I
can't see a way to add a hyperlink in the text field to an external

Ok I was trying to record it, not working
Make sure that you've copied or saved the pdf files are in the web site folder first
1 insert text,
2 with this text, create a fake link, blue and underline
3 click on Click box in the tools box
4 resize the click box over the fake link, I only keep the hint Type hint here (I deleted the 2 others) and I type Click on the link, in French Cliquez sur le lien
5 click box is still selected, then in the left menu select Action tab
6 In drop-down menu On success select Open url or file
7 Click to browse, click on file or type the url
8 Click on the drop down menu (arrow), click and select New so that way it will opens in a New browser window.
When you export in swf
You will have, at the end of the exportation, to copy paste manually the files in the web folder where is the swf file.
Now we have a new problem. I didn't have this problem with all the projects published, but it happened once. Also, once on the server, the link would not open for that reason, see this blog. Still working on it.

Text formatting in oam file disappears

Hi,
Here is the problem : I have an edge animate file with some text which supports letter-spacing and line-height. If i try this file directly from edge animate, no problem in the navigator (tested with Firefox). But when I export it as OAM file, import it in Muse, then publish.. all the settings (letter spacing and line-height) disappeared. (may be also with word-spacing and some other css settings, I haven't tried yet)
I made a test with a very simple new Edge file and a new Muse file with only the oam file imported. The result is the same : no more settings for css like letter-spacing or line-height. You can try on your own.
This happens since the last update of Edge and Muse. It worked well before.
Hope this bug will be fixed very soon 'cause I was almost ready to publish my site.. but now it's unpublishable.

This bug has been reported already. It happens only after publishing to any format(web, oam).
Line-height and text shadow properties have the problem. Rest all work as usual.
You can use the below code as workaround for time being in the composition ready event handler for each text element. Add for text shadow also if you are using that proerty too.

Using browser javascript to copy selected text from a pdf file opened in Air app.

I have posted this question on reader forum as well, but I think it is more suited here...
I am trying to create a note-taking application in air. I want to extract selected text from pdf file as a string object or to the clipboard.
Obviously, all pdfs in my local storage will not be scripted to recieve postMessages and act accordingly, and that is not practical either. So, my problem is, how can I copy the selected text in the pdf file (opened as an object in htmlloader within my Air app) to clipboard or directly in another control by say clicking a button in air application? I suppose, this is possible using javascript, however, I don't know which reader methods are exposed to the wrapper htmlloader control. In short, I want to execute app.execMenuItem("Copy") command through htmlloader javascript. Any alternate solutions are also welcome.
This is similar to passing inbuilt commands/methods/functions (of adobe reader) to pdf-reader plugin embedded in a webpage via javascript. This is possible in IE where the pdf is rendered as activex object, and hence JSObject interface of pdf document/reader is accessible to the browser javascript. I have also read that this same JSObject is accessible to VB as interface for IAC, so as the Air is Adobe's own product, I was wondering if equivalent of JSObject is accessible to htmlloader control as well.

As it is explicitly mentioned, that the functionality of adobe reader are exposed for plugin development, I thought someone here might have used external javascript to execute some safe methods in adobe reader. The functionality (i.e. external javascript interface-JSObject) is already available for VB programmers to develop IAC. Further, the Acrobat SDK example called "AcroPDFinHML" shows how one can embed a pdf-reader in a html page and execute some safe methods (like gotonextpage(), zooming etc.) in IE as ActiveX plugin. I have checked it myself for adobe reader 9, and it works perfectly, so there is no security issue as such to implement the same for another browser (like in my case, the htmlloader control in flex/air app).
I intend to create a note taking application in air, where it is very much required that I should be able to copy selected text from various pdf documents, that are open in my app, and subsequently paste/collect/save the collected notes and process them afterwords (offcourse, from the pdfs that allow me copying text). However, it is not happening for me here. As the pdfs are opened through adobe reader plugin, it does not register the copy command executed by my air app. It registers the system level copy command (by keyboard shortcut Ctrl+C), but my air app has no way to execute the system level copy command programmatically. So I am kind of stuck here...

Anchors nome example is "26/90", I have posted their names with their contents separated by a TAB.
Ink to create a text, I use the command ". HyperlinkTextDestinations.add (erg [i], {name: erg [i]. Contents}"
but I do not know how to cross reference this anchor.

Why cannot I copy selected text from a pdf file opened in Adobe Reader XI?

I had a problem when I tried to copy some selected text on a pdf file([Linux.System.Programming(2nd,2013.5)].Robert.Love.文字版.pdf) , which was opened in Adobe Reader XI as below (non-English version):
The error's text could be primarily translated as "An error occured when copied to clipboard. Internal Error." I'm not sure about the reason of this. I guess it is a problem or bug related to operating system or Adobe Reader XI. I had this problem when I used other versions of Adobe Reader though I cannot remember the exact number of versions now.
The version of XI I'm using is 11.0.0. The operating system is XP SP3.
As I was writing this question, the problem disappeared and I cannot reproduce it again now.
Could anyone help explain why the error message appearred or why the problem disappearred? If there is referrence provided, that would be finer. Thank you.

Even if it doesn't have a password, the original author has applied "plagiarism" prevention to it.
There is a program from Wondershare, called PDF Password remover, that will remove such restrictions, but I'm not allowed to recommend it, only to point out it's existence.

Embedding Full-text Index into PDF File

Hello Everyone,
I've tried to create and embed full-text index into PDF file, but with no luck. I've followed steps described at http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Acrobat/9.0/Standard/WSC28D4DBB-6A78-4027-9E04-F50FE411CFB9.w. html - there can be seen progress of collecting of data and at the end the button Update index is enabled. This is signal for me that Index was created. After clicking on Ok button, saving document as new one and then reopening "new created" document, there is info that no Index is embedded in the Manage Embedded Index dialog. Is there any other step necessary to do? Or is it bug? Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.1 on Windows Vista 32bit is used.

Thanks for the response. It is true that if I make changes and look at the embedded index status, it shows that it needs updating
However the problem I can't get around after extensive testing is that sometimes for no apparent reason the index is dropped on save. This can happen if I check the status of the index to make sure it is valid, save the file, and reopen it.
I've concluded that this must be a bug and am using other indexing options for the time being.

Help with delivering dynamic text through an external file, through XML?

I'm struggling to find the best way to deliver dynamic text
from an external file, through XML, to a Flash file.
I use small Flash pieces to deliver multiple sets of content
through a single .swf file. An example is here:

In the .swf file at the bottom, I'm using a three-scene .fla
file. I'm putting the actionScript in the Actions layer atop each
frame. Example:

So much of this is pick-ups from what I've researched in
Google. I'm looking for a way I can feel more confident in my code,
and also have that code follow CSS.
Lastly, I recognize the problems in XML with using single
quotes / double quotes, and the & symbol. This is one of my
largest time sucks, and I'd like to find a better way to do this.

Did you ever find a resolution to this? I'm having a similar
issue that I can't seem to get multiline dynamic text working in
CS3.
The font is embedded but it just displays the first line, and
then a blank. I'm sure this worked fine in Flash MX.

How load text into dynamic text boxes from external file?

hi all,
my animation is very simple - a background image and 2 text boxes. one of the textboxes shows a large word, which crossfades to another word, with a total of about 12 words (showing one at a time in different text boxes fading in & out in the same spot).
i need a way to have the text be imported dynamically via xml or json (xml preferred). this article is a good start, but i noticed he's putting all of the text into one box - i need separate strings put into separate boxes from the xml.

for his text box. what would be the best way to revise this code to include all my individual strings to be loaded into my individual text boxes? thinking an array might work, but my js skills are limited.

this is helpful in seeing how the array is created, but after giving it a go I became a little confused.
i wound up trying it again based on the example i linked out to previously, but it's not adding the text from my xml file when previewing.

but nothing happens on preview. my textboxes still contain the original text that lives in my comp.

Text Inset in Container File Loses Conditional Tag

(Framemaker 8.0p277,unstructured)
I have a number of books that make use of text inset and conditional text. Some text insets contain conditional text in their source. Then, after the inset is put into the container file, the inset may be further conditionalized. This illustrates the situation:

The red text indicates an InternalDocComment condition. This inset is then placed into the container file where it has another condition applied, PrintOnly for example. PrintOnly is in blue.
The writer is able to set all this up fine. After placing the inset into the container, she selects the inset and applies PrintOnly. The text inset appears in blue and the InternalDocComment as visible shows the maroon of two mixed colors. The writer saves the file, continues working on the files, then later in the week, the writer opens the container file. The blue color indicator is gone from the inset. When the writer selects the inset and chooses Apply Conditional Text, the Conditional Text dialog shows the current selection is Conditional (radio button) but no tags appear in the In portion of the dialog.
I've tried using spacer paragraphs in and around the text inset to see if we can get the conditional tag to "stick" but nothing is working.
Has anyone run into this before?

I use a lot of conditional text and insets but within a structured document. I have noticed that FrameMaker does not always do what one thinks it does. For example, copy a piece of unconditional text and paste it in the middle of conditional text and the pasted text remains unconditional. Each time you open the document, FrameMaker updates the text insets. In your case, it is updating a text inset that is on the whole unconditional. So, my guess is that it bringing it in as unconditional, much like the copy and paste example above. You might test this by creating a small document with the inset and over conditioning, saving it in the mif format, opening the mif file, and looking at how the conditioning is applied. Then save the Frame file, open it, save as mif, and repeat the above. If the containing file conditions DO hold up, then try removing the conditioning within the containing file and reapplying it; this may help to clear out some bad conditioning.
I vaguely recall trying to conditionalize a text inset within the containing document and had problems. I cannot remember what exactly the problems were. My solution was to do the conditioning within the inset file itself. So, if the text inset is always to be conditionalized in the containing document, then do the conditioning within the document itself.
