Adding vNICs to vNIC LAN Connectivity Policy via UCS Central PowerTool (BETA)

When I try to add an vNIC to an VNIC LAN Connectivity policy by using the UCS Central Powertool (v0.94) I getting the following error:
 D:\Scripts> Add-UcsCentralVnic -Name vmnic0 -VnicLanConnPolicy test

whatever I try, I still get the same error every time ("Create/Delete/Modify operations are not allowed").
I'm using UCS Central version 1.2(1a) and UCS Central PowerTool version 0.94 (BETA)

    Hi,
Actually  we have UCS 6248 fabric interconnect - first twelve ports are enabled  and same in Cisco UCS Manager.
But when more port will be active by expansion module  then UCSM can manage that too or need any other licence  for UCSM too?

  • Dynamic vnic connection policy

I am trying to build a service profile for vmfex but I keep getting a config error
I only have 2 vnics assigned to this blade and I have a dynamic vnic connection policy applied. how many dynamic vnics should i be using? does this depened on how many vms I have on the host? normally is it a one to one mapping for each vm to each dynamic vnic?
also when I apply the profile I get this error

Thanks for the response Jeremy.... Makes perfect sense, I had been told that you could not mix VMFEX with standard VMware switches (I did doubt this as I have used this mixture with none UCS + 1000v configs in the past)...
A few questions if you don’t mind:
    1. In your config are you using fabric failover with the vmnics? – If so could you use 1 vmnic with each vswitch (suppressing the error from ESX re mgmt redundancy)
    2. Would vmnics4/5 be added to the VMFEX DVS once the DVS has been configured and sent down to vCentre?
    3. Are you applying QoS to the VMFEX Port-Profiles for standard VM networking?
    4. I have read (somewhere!) that the uplinks on the VMFEX DVS are cosmetic and are not actually used to forward traffic, but more to keep vcentre happy... Not sure if this is true, however, it would also make sense. If this is the case then in the VMFEX world QoS on the uplink vmnics would have no affect and hence applying QoS to the VMFEX Port-Profiles for VM networking??? – Can you clarify this for me?
    ## Please note, the reason I am looking to use VMFEX is to allow the use of PVLANs on a common backup LAN ###
Lastly, I enjoyed the UCS TrainSignal stuff, very good indeed...

  • Behavior of UCSM vNIC/vHBA placement policy

    hi,
Can anyone please explain me the behavior of UCSM vNIC/vHBA placement policy, and its three options assigned-only, Exclude-Dynamic and Exclude-Unassigned. I have gone through the documentation, but I am not very clear yet.
May be an explaining with an example will help.
    Sample scenario.
Full blade having Palo on left side, and Menlo Emulex on right side, with 8 VNICs (4 dynamic, and 4 manual), with each of the three options.
    thanks

Tejo, there are two reasons that you would want to use a placement policy.
Full width blades with 2 mezzanine cards - When you have 2 mezzanine cards a placement policy      allows you to specify which mezzanine card to assign a vNIC/vHBA to. By      doing this you can better load balance the network and storage traffic. In      a placement policy the 2 mezzanine cards are identified as vCon1 and      vCon2.
Dynamic vNIC Connection Policy – When you have a Dynamic vNIC Connection Policy as      part of a Service Profile you want to have a placement policy so that the      dynamic vNICs are created below the standard vNIC/vHBAs in the PCI order.      Dynamic vNIC connection policies are used in the configuration of VN-Link      in hardware. This type of policy requires the Palo mezzanine card though.
Other than those two reasons I don't know when you would use a placement policy unless you just wanted to make sure the OS sees the vNICs/vHBAs on specific PCI slots.
The exclude-dynamic comes into play with the Dyamic vNIC Connection Policies I mentioned in option 2 above. Exclude-unassigned would be where you have some that you want to assign (vNICs) but you don not care about where the vHBAs get assigned.
I personally have only had the need to use them in the 2 scenarios above.
With your specific scenario you would use the placement policy to assign some vNICs/vHBAs to the Emulex card (2 max for vNIC and vHBAs) and some to the Palo (dynamic vNIC connection policy or more than 2 vNICs. Or you might want all of your vHBAs to use the Emulex and all of your vNICs to use the Palo.

  • Can I extend time capsule by adding external drive connected TC via USB?

    Hi,
I use my TC drive for backups, i's now full. Can I extend time capsule backup drive by adding external drive connected TC via USB? If yes, how do I his? I have 1TB WD external drive connected via the TC's USB, I can see the WD drive in the finder and the TC set-up...but I don't know where to go from here...
    Thanks for your help
    Steveru

    Welcome to the discussions, Steveru!
I think what you are asking is can you simply continue Time Machine backups by adding the new USB drive, correct? The answer is not exactly. See below for details.
To use the new USB drive for Time Machine backups, you'll need to Open System Preferences (gear icon) on the dock and open Time Machine. Click on Select Disk and click your USB drive to highlight it, then click Use for Backup. Here's the rub....Time Machine will make a new full complete backup of everything on your Mac's hard drive. There's no way to avoid this. After that, it will continue to make scheduled incremental backups just like it did before on the Time Capsule.
If you ever need to go back to your original backups on the Time Capsule, you'll need to right-click the Time Capsule icon on the dock and choose Browse Other Time Machine Disks.
When the USB drive start to fill, you may decide that you no longer need all the old backups on the Time Capsule disk since you should have a good history of backups on the USB drive at that point.
So, you could erase the Time Capsule disk and then start backing up to the Time Capsule disk again. At that time, it will also make a complete backup on the first pass and then normal incremental backups from that point forward. When the TC begins to fill again, then you could erase the older backups on the USB drive and start backups again on that drive. Then switch to the other drive in the future to keep things going indefinitely. If you go with this type of flip flop plan, you should always have a solid history of many months of backups at any given time.
Will a plan like this work? I don't answer a question on the forum unless I've done it myself. This has been working well for me for almost 3 years.
Pondini, the resident expert on Time Machine and Time Capsule affairs, may have some comments on this as well. If you haven't already seen his excellent guide, Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule or +Time Machine FAQ+, these are the best available sources of information on this subject on the Internet.
Or, if you don't want to erase any your backups, you could of course keep adding a new USB drive when the current drive is about to fill.

  • Extending Range of Airport Extreme via LAN connection to Airport Express

I am an expat living overseas. I live in a 100 concrete walled house and thus when trying to set up a wireless network I have very limited range. Using Airport Extreme is not a problem downstairs...but to extend the wireless connection upstairs had been a challenge. What I've attempted to do is use the LAN connection on the back of the Airport Express Base Station and run the line upstairs along the side of the house into a room upstairs. I then have connected the ethernet line to an airport express in this room. My computers upstairs recognize the Airport Express and are connected to it...but I can't get an internet connection to those computers. Additionally, the Airport Extreme Base Station does not recognize the Airport Express as part of the network (wireless or LAN). Any suggestions?

I would bring the Expresses to the room where you have your Extreme and factory reset the Expresses so that they are in the original condition when they came out of the box - they will reflect their Apple IDs.
I would then open the Airport Utility (I am assuming you have the new Extreme, not the old one). Scan for the Expresses and then join them to the network.
If they work in the room where your Extreme is located then they are configured appropriately. They I would try moving them back to the room where you want to extend your network. If they then do not work you will know it is not the Express but the amount of concrete and metal in your building.

  • Lan connectivity Issue on autonomous AP with throttles

              Hello,
I encounter a strange problem on several AP 1242 in version 12.4(25d)JA1 of a customer :
He has 10 autonomous AP covering a factory and is using them for laptop connectivity and TOIP with mainly 7921 Cisco Wifi Phones.
The phones are configured to use only 802.11a.
The APs loose LAN connectivity randomly and therefore the clients don't work anymore.
The AP are connected on a 2960 and a 3560 wich are in turn connected on a 3750 wich route the trafic.
After checking spanning-tree no loops are present.
When I check the counters on the AP involved I see the "trhottles" and "ignored" counters incrementing on the fa0 link of the AP impacted wich mean I think it can't handle the incoming traffic. This incoming traffic seems not to be too big however. I can see drops on the switch interface connecting the AP.
There is a lot of roaming on the AP due to people walking in the factory with their wifi phones.
Here is a view of the fa0 counters :

Does someone ever experienced a similar problem ?
When I shut radio interfaces they're is no more problems on the LAN. Can this be an overlapping coverage issue ?
Can someone please give me advices on how to troubleshoot this issue ?
Thank you in advance as I'm a bit stuck.
    Best Regards,

         Hi Scott,
    Thanks for your reply.
Do you think this can be the origin of the issue my customer encounters or is it only to be standard ? As this change will have to be made on all clients, if there is a chance it solves the problem I will do it ASAP, if not I will delay it in a less busy period :-)
Can the constant roaming associations and dissasociations overload the AP and make it stop responding on the LAN or is it only a throuhput problem ?
Thanks in advance for your answer.

  • Slow start up of iTunes 10.6 on Windows 7 & Network issues connecting iPhone via WiFi

Ever since I updated to iTunes 10.6 and iOS 5.1 both my computer don't want to open iTunes quickly and my Phone doesn't get noticed on iTunes via WiFi on my network. When I go to start iTunes from the icon on my desktop it doesn't pop up on screen right away like it did on the version before 10.6 and on iOS 5.0.1 my phone would sync and connect on to iTunes to update apps just fine now all that has changed. Doesn't want to connect to update apps on my network via WiFi and I have tried a few different things to see if I could correct the issue but nothing has worked. I tried what another person posted to try and it did not work, I also uninstalled, rebooted computer and reinstalled iTunes but that did not work either. Nothing I have tried seems to work, it must be a Apple glitch in the software for Windows 7 to have iTunes 10.6 and iOS 5.1 not to work properly like it should as it once did without fail. Before on the versions before this everything worked just fine no issues. Apple get with the program and fix these issues we are having please. Thanks and hope they get it fixed and straightened out quick!!!

Well, here is the results of my Diagnostic Test of the phone when plugged into the computer. Maybe with this someone would be able to see something that might need looking into, if so please let me know. Thanks so much in advance. I have not tried going back to a older version of iTunes as I am just gonna wait and see if Apple can correct it, hopefully they can. It seems as if on update they left something out to make iTunes, and Syncing not working properly.

  • USB connectivity policy not working on 1st connect of device

    Hi,
I have an problem concerning my USB connectivity policy. My endpoint zone is blocking all USB devices. Users do have access for known USB devices (USB storage devices) I have put into another USB connectivity policy which is attached to the User objects. In general everything is working fine, unknown devices are blocked and registered devices are allowed.
But I have weird behavior when a new, unknown USB device is connected the very first time. Then Windows starts detecting it, installs the driver but does NOT deactivate them. The device is displayed and accessible through the Windows Explorer. It seems something is blocking the Endpoint agent from deactivating it. Windows Autoplay and Autorun Function already HAS BEEN disabled. No Antivirus is installed on that system.
The ZES log files contain many of these messages:
    ""USB-Massenspeichergert"(USB\VID_0781&PID_5151\0775131 B33009E3D) failed
[09.04.2012 10:45:19.692][14] Component: Always: ZES Component Manager: Reboot Requested by: Device Watcher (Suppressed)"
Same behavior i had when Autoplay was still active: Once the Windows Autoplay did automatically open a folder or file on a new stick, the Endpoint agent was unable to deactivate the device. This seems not to be a very reliable method to block devices...!
When I disconnect and insert the device again, everything is fine (blocked). Problem only appears on very first use of a device!
    My questions:
Can I somehow prevent that Windows displays new devices in the Windows Explorer before they are blocked? I would prefer that they FIRST are evaluated and THEN will be accessible for the User?
Is there another place in ZCC (except by adding USB connectivity policies to the zone) forcing the endpoint agent to block devices?

What version are you using? If you're not using the latest 11.2.1 MU1, then please upgrade.
For autoplay, you can block this with a policy setting as well (disable autorun and/or autoplay).

  • Hang of RMI call when LAN connection removed

I have a client server application with comms using RMI across a TCP/IP LAN. We are in test at the moment and one of the tests is to ensure that when the LAN connection is removed, the client application handles it correctly.
We have discovered that if we pull the LAN whilst an RMI call is in progress, the call never returns, even if we subsequently plug the LAN back in. Why should this be? I would have expected a RemoteException as soon as I pull the LAN out. How come the thread gets deadlocked?
Note that we are running JRE 1.2 on the client (they are soon to be updated but it's 1400 remote, unattended sites so it's an expensive process to update to a recent JRE).
    Thanks
    Mat

Thanks ejp - couple of dollars coming your way. Be a couple more if you (or anyone else) can help further.
Firstly, how would I set this property in the code?
Secondly, would it be set in the client or the factory (yes we do have one)? If it's in the factory, will that help me from the client side (that's where I need it to work). I looked up the responseTimeout property and it looks like this is more for the server to close incoming connections. The problem I have is on the client side - I need the client (i.e. that is making the RMI call via an exported remote object) to be able to kill off a call that has going too long (for instance because it can't detect the closed TCP connection).
Maybe I've misunderstood the documentation I've found but that's how I read it.
    Thanks again!

  • Assign QoS Service Policy via RADIUS to Catalyst 45k/37k?

    hi,
is there a way to assigen a QoS service policy via Radius to an Caltalyst 4500/3750 Switchport?
in detail, we would like to assign this policy
        policy-map SET_EF
         class class-default
           set dscp ef
to an interface. All traffic should be marked with a defined DSCP value.
This works find when doing it statically with
        interface FastEthernet2/1
             service-policy input SET_EF
but we would need to assign such a policy via Radius during the 802.1x Authentication. different users should get differnt policies. We use Cisco ACS 5.2 as Radius Server and there actually is a field for
that in the Authorization Profile Common Tasks Configuration. in detail, this uses the cisco-av-pair "sub-policy-In=<policy name>" attribute to assign a service policy to an NAS.
we found also two other attributes "sub-qos-policy-in" and "ip:sub-qos-polcy-in" for that. CCO says that "ip:sub-qos-polcy-in" works with Catalyst 65k (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/12.2SX/configuration/guide/qos.html#wp1926523)
unfortunately this seems to not work on Catalyst 45k and 37k.
In the ACS Logs we can see that these attributes are attached to the Radius Reply, but unfortunately they are ignored by the switch.
it is interesing that when entering "show aaa attributes" on the Catalyst 45k, these attributes are displayd - so for my understanding the switch should understand these attibutes (?)
        4503-E#sh aaa attributes
        AAA ATTRIBUTE LIST:
            Type=1     Name=disc-cause-ext                 Format=Enum
            Type=2     Name=Acct-Status-Type               Format=Enum
        <snip>
            Type=345   Name=sub-policy-In                  Format=String
            Type=346   Name=sub-qos-policy-in              Format=String
            Type=347   Name=sub-policy-Out                 Format=String
            Type=348   Name=sub-qos-policy-out             Format=String
    any input is welcome :-))
    best reagrds

additionally to this discussion, i've just opened a service request with TAC.
unfortunately the engineer told me that by now per-User QoS is definitely no supported on this two plattforms but it's listed on the roadmap and will be possibly availabe mid 2012......

  • Troubleshooting page ea6900 - multiple LAN connections

I have EA6900, guest access enabled - when I log in remotely and look at troubleshooting page, I see several connections (two subnets, mine and guest) - some are listed as wireless and some are LAN.  I see more than 5 LAN connections.
Since the router only have 4 ethernet ports on it, how can I have more than 5 LAN connections?  Am I mis-understanding the table on the troubleshooting page?
Also, one of the LAN connections is 0:0:0:0 - not sure I understand that one.
This is at a seeeasonal rental property, I hid the router to keep guests from monkeying with it.  They should only have guest access via wireless.
Can someone provide a better description of the troubleshooting page than the one-sentence blurb that comes with the router's user guide???
    Thanks

    chadster766 wrote:
I will say that I believe I've seen wireless devices displayed in this list as a LAN connection. In any case the IP Address of the device would show as the Guest subnet.
Yeah I can confirm what chadster said as well. I see wrongly labeled connections on my 6900 too. It works pretty good as a home based router but isn't always the best when you try to get too tricky.

  • No network LAN-connection after iOS 5.1.1update

Today i tried to solve a big issue after updating my AppleTV's to 5.1.1 (actual version: AppleTV3,1_5.1_10A406e_Restore.ipsw). After updating my Apple TV´s, they could not connect to  the Apple activation server. No Home Sharing was adjustable and also logging in iTunesStore was not possible. The update I have done via LAN cable, and I changed  nothing in my network configuration. The network (networkadress via DHCP) is indeed set up by default in the AppleTV automatically. Nevertheless, nothing went. Then I removed the network cable and made a reset of the AppleTV and tried to connect via Wi-Fi. With Wi-Fi, he finds the activation server and everything works as it should. Home Sharing, iTunes, streaming. However, once the network cable is plugged in and the Apple TV is restarted, it is again not possible to get access the iTunesStore. Home Sharing is not possible. The networkcable are fine. Both MacBook, as well as my TVs have internet connection over the same network cable. If I unplug the network cable from the AppleTV again, anything goes. Only via WLAN, but it's just too slow to stream data from my Mac. I have this "strange behavior" on 3 AppleTV 3.Gen., which are in the apartment. The previous iOS-Version on the same network cables, worked great. Can anyone reproduce the problem? Or have I now 3 bricked devices? I tried to downgrade over itunes. But this is not possible anymore. I installed 3 times the update. But nothing goes. Please can anybody help me.

I found another link titled "Apple TV Death after update"  and found several links that have proven to work to restore to the previous version.  Here is my post:
"I had originally replied to a post titled "No network LAN-connection after iOS 5.1.1 update". That has been my issue after updating to 5.1. Wirless worked for me but iTunes match and Podcasts were slow to respond. I finally downgraded to the previous version (5.0.2). So far, my ATV3 has been operating exactly as it did out of the box. No more activation failed message, and all components of ATV are functioning flawlessly on my whole home LAN network.
I also wonder what Apple was thinking for releasing this update without adaquate testing. I can forgive them for Maps, but not this. ATV has been around long enough for all of the kinks to be worked out and any updates to just plain work. I did like the new menu displays in apps and how you could rearrange the program icons on the home screen.
Perhaps they will get it right. Some day. But until they show proof that any future updates are correct and provide detailed instructions on how to revert back to a previous version, I will be very leary of updating. Spending a week reading message boards on how to do a simple resotre is not my idea of how to spend my weekends.
As a side note, I am a PC, so to restore from an .ispw file located on your system, you must press the Alt & Shift keys togather, then click the Restore button, and a window will pop-up so you can select the location for the restore file."
    Directions to restore:
"Yes you can. I am a PC. Download the .ipsw file and save to your desktop. Unplug the LAN, HDMI and power cable. Connect the usb cable from your laptop to the ATV. If iTunes does not automatically launch, start it. After iTunes is running, plug in the power cable to the ATV. iTunes will recognize the ATV and will open the restore window in iTunes.
Press the Alt and Shift keys togather, then click on the Restore button. A file window will open so you can navigate to the desktop (or where ever you saved the file). Select the AppleTV3,1_5.-.2_9B830_Restore.ipsw file. iTunes will start the restore process.
When you see the message that it has completed the restore, unplug the usb cable and power cable. Reconnect the LAN and HDMI cable then plug in the Power cable in that sequence.
Follow the setup procedure again and all should be as it was before."

  • Connect iPad via SSLVPN (clientless) and RDP

    Hello,
I have been reading through the other discussions here as well as the ask the expert from last year about connecting iPads via SSLVPN specifically for creating an RDP session. I am looking for clarification to make sure that I understand everyhit correctly. The only way for an iPAD to make an RDP session is to run the full client then use an RDP client on the iPAD. This is due to the iPAD not being able to use the java based RDP plugin. The drawback here if I understand right is that the device is fully on the network with the client running. This means that any potential adware/spyware/virus/whatever would have network access because of the full client.
Is there something that I am missing or is there a way to lock things down to keep the iPAD fully off the network? Can I configure the portal to say use only specific ports to minimize this exposure? We are looking into ways to allow users to remotely connect but not allow them to use the full client. They would remotely connect through a portal to either their company asset or RDP to a terminal server for connectivity. For the windows based folks this is starting to look like a really good solution. This issue is starting to arise that more and more people are starting to get the iPADS instead of standard laptops.
Anyone addressing this with a different method or solution?
    Thanks in advance ...
    Brent

Are you using DAP policies or radius authentication? You can have the radius server hand the class attribute in order to place the client in the correct DAP policy. In that DAP policy create a logical expression for the ipad and reference a split tunnel so that rdp traffic (tcp port 3389) is permitted through is protected through the tunnel.
    Hope this helps!
