Addings Comments Feature for articles on site

On our site we have feature articles posted every month. My
boss asked me to add a link below where visitors can add comments
or start a discussion... Are there any ready made/off the shelf
product i can purchase?
Or can someone guide me to build this feature on my own? Each
article can be connected to a separate comments/discussions etc...
Any help and guidance would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance
JT

Step 1 - add a table to your db to store them. Make sure it
has a foreign key reference to the articles.
Step 2 - write a web page to allow people to type their
comments.
Step 3 - write a cold fusion template that checks these
comments for malicious code and such, and inserts records into that
table you created.

  • Comments feature for iweb

I have created a website using iweb and it includes a blog page that I share with many of my friends. I was wondering if any one knows if there is a way or feature I can add to allow people to leave comments about my blog postings. Thanks.

    Welcome to the discussions.
If you publish your iWeb site to MobileMe, via iWeb's Inspector "Blog & Podcast" panel you can set up your blog page to allow comments.
If you don't publish your iWeb site to MobileMe, iWeb's commenting feature is unavailable. Some people have managed to link their iWeb site to an independent commenting system, but with iWeb's blog being generally unreliable, I wouldn't recommend trying to do that.
Instead, I would suggest you consider blogging using another system such as this:
    http://www.posterous.com/faq
...You can hyperlink to your Posterous blog from your iWeb site and Posterous allows creating a blog entry via email as well as its web interface. Plus there's the usual commenting capability and comment alerts for the account holder.

  • Publishing Feature for Site Collection

    Hi..
I am having 5 different Site Collections in SharePoint Site and from 1st Site Collection we are redirecting to other using Top Link bar, but when we enable Publishing Feature for Different Site Collections the Top Link bar changed..i want to have Standard links
    for all
    Ravindranath

Publishing feature is applicable to a Site Collection and its sites.
    Quick Approach
A quick solution will be to manage the Navigation (via Site Actions -> Site Settings -> Look and Feel -> Navigation -> Navigation Editing and Sorting -> Global Navigation) for all 5 site collections and add same links. This will show the same
top links for all your site collections.
    Correct approach -
For using same navigation (top links) across site collections withing same web application, you need to implement Global Navigation. Google this and you'll find lots of good articles to implement this - Create an xml for site map, copy this to your web application
directory, add the provider in web.config, update the master page to bind the provider to SiteMapDataSource.
This is a proper approach where if you update the xml, changes get applied to all site collections.

  • Grid Control Architecture for Very Large Sites: New Article published

A new article on Grid Control was published recently:
Grid Control Architecture for Very Large Sites
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/havewala-gridcontrol.html

    Oliver,
Thanks for the comments. The article is based on practical experience. If one was to recommend a pool of 2 management servers for a large corporate with 1000 servers, what that would mean is that if 1 server was brought down for any maintenance reason (for eg. applying an EM patch), all the EM work load would be on the remaining management server. So it is better to have 3 management servers instead of 2 when the EM system is servicing so many targets. Otherwise, the DBAs would be a tad angry since only 1 remaining managment server would not be able to service them properly during the time of the maintainance fix on the first management server.
The article ends with these words: "You can easily manage hundreds or even *thousands* of targets with such an architecture. The large corporate which had deployed this project scaled easily up to managing 600 to 700 targets with a pool of just three management servers, and the future plan is to manage *2,000 or more* targets which is quite achievable." The 2000 or more is based on the same architecture of 3 managment servers.
So as per the best practice document, 2 management servers would be fine for 1000 servers, although I would still advise 3 servers in practice.
For your case of 200 servers, it depends on the level of monitoring you are planning to do, and the type of database managment activities that
will be done by the DBAs. For eg, if the Dbas are planning on creating standby databases now and then through Grid Control, running backups daily
via Grid Control, cloning databases in Grid Control, patching databases in Grid Control and so on, I would definitely advise a pool of 2 servers
in your case. 2 is always better than 1.

  • Is there a comment feature in Pages for iPad?

Hey all you iPad owners. Is there a comment feature in Pages for iPad? There is one in Pages '09 that I use all the time. Not having that feature in the iPad version of Pages could be a deal breaker for me buying an iPad. Thanks in advance for your help!

I think it not an unreasonable feature request for a word prcessor. I feel that in scaling pages down to the iPad Apple has also made the product a little less attractive for professional usage. For example pages for iPad really should preserve Endnotes created elsewhere, but it does not at present. A shame, but we can hope that in subsequent versions of pages for iPad that support or preservation of advanced word processing features is introduced.

  • RoboHelp 8 for AIR - Comment Feature

I'm currently using RH7. I noticed in the marketing blitz for
RH8 it mentions that the RH packager for AIR allows user comments
to be posted within your help project. I'm trying to understand if
    this means:
    a. User makes comment on their C drive for their own personal
    reference
    b. User posts comment to a web server for all to see (and
    help author to moderate)

While Peter's feverishly going back through his hand-written
notes (he keeps them on wax tablets), let me jump in here.
Comments stay with the AIR file wherever it is located.
Comments are identified by machine username, whether the AIR
file is on your local machine or on a server.
    1. I copied an AIR file to a server location.
    2. I made a comment which, when added, displayed my username.
    3. I copied the AIR file back to my machine.
    4. The new comment appeared.
In addition, you can sync comments from multiple local
machines, by exporting/importing comment file (
Send and Receive comments > Send to file/Receive from
file). For testing, I: 1) exported two comments; 2) edited the
file by changing <authorname> and <comment> values; and
    3) imported the edited comments, which appeared along with my old
ones (but identified by the different author name).
Based on my initial observations, then, you could even share
comment files between your customers and your organization (after
moderating the entries, if need be).
How your customers use the help (shared or loaded on users'
local machines) will determine how you instruct them to use the
comments feature, as well as how to possibly interact with you, the
    vendor.
    Good luck,
    Leon

  • Commenting feature in packages page, like in the AUR's ones.

I noticed AUR packages page has a feature letting you to add comments. I find this particularly useful because it enables focused commenting by the users of such packages. You can easily keep track of bugs, possible breakage, any kind of problems with the package, and basically it would be very nice to have this kind of feature for the same reasons we already have it in the AUR site.
    Peace.

For discussion and "something went wrong but don't know what exactly" issues there's forum, IRC and ML. Using informative subjects helps finding relevant forum / ML threads.
Wiki articles have their discussion pages too, so if you're unsure about something, post there.
Finally, I find AUR comments lacking:
    1. You can't sticky a comment.
    2. Hell, you can't even link to a specific comment.
    3. You can't have threaded comments so if you are dealing with more than one issue at the same time it's a mess.
    4. Lack of bbcode-like (or similar) formating (although the bug tracker doesn't support formating either).

  • Best Practice for Host Named Site Collections and Web Apps

Looking for advice on setting up the host named site collections.  If I am reading many of the technet articles and blogs correctly I should 1) have only 1 top level web app for host named site collections and 2) not have a host header for that web
app.  If that's correct I am looking for advice.  We have 7 separate domains that we support in our farm.  Currently each of those domains is divided into web applications based on the domain,  *.contoso, *.trains.com, *.bakers.com, etc.
Is the concept now that all of the host named site collections fall under that one web app?  How do we deal with the SSL for each of those separate domains which all have their own certificates?
Thanks in advance for your comments.
    NLewis

Yes, for creating host named site collections, first you create a host header less web app and then create host named site collections under that web app. However this is only for the cases where all the host named site collections ends in one domain. So
you can create host named site collections as intranet.contoso.com, my.contoso.com, portal.contoso.com etc as they are all ending in *.contoso.com.
As per your environment, if you have web apps which caters to different domains like *.contoso.com, *.trains.com, *.bakers.com, you need to create separate web apps as they are all ending in different domains. Then you can have a separate wildcard SSL certificate
for each of those web apps.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks

  • Office Web Apps - how to disable office web apps features for one web application

ENV: Sharepoint 2010 farm with office web apps + fast search
I have the requirement for one web application to open all its documents in client applications - I can enable feature "OpenInClient". This web application uses team site template and other web application also uses team site template. ( feature
stapling ruled out)  Now I can run powershell cmdlet to enable this feature on all the currently existing site collections. But the requirement is to enable this feature for all the future site collections. This web applications has 60 k site collections
and atleast more than 10 site collections get created each day and they dont like the option to run a powershell script each day to activate this solution.
Is there any other way to by default activate new site collections on this WA to open in client applications by default (can we disable this office webapps features only on one web app)?
    VM

I have learnt from this forum that it is not possible to turn off Office web apps on single web application. The line of control lies at farm level and then at site collection.

  • Using comments feature in Pages 5.2

I'M IN A CRITIQUE WRITING GROUP AND WE NEED TO MAKE COMMENTS ON EACH OTHER'S WORK. WITH PAGES 09, I COULD USE COMMENTS EFFECTIVELY...THEY WOULD SHOW IN THE MARGINS OF THE PIECE I WAS GIVING FEEDBACK FOR AND THE COMMENTS WOULD PRINT UP. NOW WITH THE MARVELOUS NEW PAGES VERSION 5.2(1860) COMMENTS FEATURE DISAPPEARS WITH EACH COMMENT AND I CANNOT PRINT OR EMAIL THE DOCUMENT TO THE WRITER - NOR CAN THEY EMAIL THEIR COMMENTS TO ME. MY WRITING PARTNERS USE WINDOWS DOC AND DOCX WHICH I EXPORT TO WORD TO WORK ON. HELP!

Forget about Pages v5.2 for now. Comments are broke. If you had Pages ’09 previously installed prior to the Pages v5 update, the installation process moved the older Pages into /Application/iWork '09.
Another awareness issue is that the Pages v5 document format is completely unique to this version. It will not open Pages ’09 documents without filtering the features and functionality that are not presently implemented in Pages v5. Exporting documents, both Word and Pages ’09, have created issues for others.

I have pdf file with 500 pages created from AutoCad file. In all pages, I have different document numbers. The file is not editable in pdf. How to change all the document numbers using "Comment" feature? Any alternate method?  alternate method? I have Adobe Acrobat X Pro and Windows -7 platform.

Yes, I just want to cover up all the pages for those particular area of document numbers.
Nothing sensitive about it. I just want to show the correct document numbers on all pages in print out.
So, I wanted to cover up by comments, but commenting on each page will be difficult. So, I wanted to comment the same on all pages.

  • Opening PDF in browser using Adobe API - with mark up and comment features

    Hey,
Here is the scenario :   Firstly, the user has to review the file (say pdf) before approving it. I would like to open the pdf file in the browser directly for reviewing. Also, I want to add some mark up (sticky notes, etc) and comment features while reviewing. Using these features, the user can pin point the mistakes directly in the file and revert the file for changes if any.
And as part of implementation, I would like to use Adobe java API to do the same. But I couldn't find any code snippets for using this API.
Any kind of help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This forum is only for discussions on the forums themselves. I would suggest that you start from the Acrobat forum,

  • Commenting features slowing Acrobat 9.0.3 to a crawl

I was wrong in my previous thread about Adobe Updater being the culprit for the horrendous slowdowns in Acrobat Pro 9.0.2.  Updater.acroplugin is not the problem.
Apparently, the commenting feature of Acrobat is what grinds it to a halt. If I disable any one of the plugins required for the comments option to show up in the menu bar (AcroForm.acroplugin, WebLink.acroplugin, EFS.acroplugin, and possibly others), Acrobat becomes excruciatingly slow.
Does anyone know of a way to make the commenting feature of Acrobat move faster? It takes about 30 seconds for it to respond to any click or movement of the mouse.

    OH. MY GOSH. IT'S FIXED!!
I have spend the past 2 hrs on the phone with Adobe and Apple tech support. Adobe had me try creating a brand new user account and opening Acrobat. It opened fine with commenting enabled. So that seemed to indicate that the problem was somewhere in my User library.
So after trying various things that didn't fix it, including deleting the entire preferences folder, and starting in safe mode (hold down shift while rebooting until you see the grey apple, then wait 10-15 minutes for it to load).
Finally, he had me pull this folder out and move it to the desktop:
HD: userfolder: homefolder: library: application support: adobe: acrobat
After that, like magic, it works at full speed again.
He warned that he has no idea what Adobe might need that folder for, so you shouldn't trash it completely, but leave it on the desktop until you know for sure.
I'm happy once again! I hope this solves your problem too.

I downloaded Mozilla firefox when I first got my mac as I did not like safari.Thah being said, which is better? and lastly can I still use cmd t or cmd with firefox for opening multiple sites? Thanks,Ralph

You need to visit this page and learn all about Firefox's awesome features, don't ignore the add-ons, toolbar>customize or persona's they really personalize Firefox.
    http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/central/
Also you need to make sure your browser plugins are current for your whole machine, Safari included.

I hope one day Apple will make Safari as awesome as Firefox and allow the choice it has, but not today.
