Address Book unexpected application close

Hi,
Does anyone know of any limitations of Address Book regarding number of contacts in the database? I have about 16,000 contacts, and when I try to have Address Book "Find Duplicate Records", it terminates unexpectedly.
What's the deal?

After further investigation, I find that Address Book does indeed have a limitation as to the number of contacts supported - which is about 10,000. This is probably more of a memory limitation (table or array size construction within the program). I came to this conclusion by breaking down my contact database into chunks and did a "Find Duplicates" on each chunk to make sure it worked. I then built my new contact database a chunk at a time, performing a "Find Duplicates" at each stage. When I approach 10,000 contacts, Address Book consistently crashed. It will also crash when performing extensive adds/moves/changes when the database approaches this size, and even corrupt the database or completely reinstate a new database if the existing one becomes too corrupted.
Am I even in the right group for this thread (nobody responded to my initial post)?
Any suggestions where I can take this issue for possible resolution?

Address book unexpectedly quitting

Whenever I go to add a new contact in Address Book, it "unexpectedly quits".
I've tried moving the preferences folder to the desktop, then logging out and logging back in to see if it was a preference problem, but it didn't do anything. Then I tried taking out the Library>Application Support>AddressBook folder and putting it on the desktop, then log out and log back in to see if it was something with the contacts, but that still didn't work. So I don't know what to do. If you have any ideas.. please post!

Constant Contact + Address Book Exporter application

Since installing Snow Leopard and Quickbooks 2010 (and turning back on Sync in QB) my Address Book Exporter application will not export names and email addresses without all having errors. Can no longer import them. Any suggestions and thank you.

Be sure you are looking in the right place:
/Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/. It's a folder, not a file, and it's located in your Home folder's Library.

Address book disappear, Application Support folder can not be opened

My address book disappear from my MacPro, I know it is in the User Library-Application Support folder, but when I try to open that folder, it has a red tag on the folder and it said I have no Authority to open that folder, I am the only one using this machine, never have this problem. And it will not allow me to restore the address book from Time Machine back to this folder. What's wrong? I think I need to figure out why it wont let me open the Application Support folder, could anyone help? thanks.
One Symptom: when I run the address book App, and try to import address file, the Menu bar- File-the Import dialog was greyed-out and can not be used.

Could you please check the Sharing &permissions of these two folders (command +I). Check to see if you have "Read&Write access to these folders. It should be your user name with read&write privileges.
     You will have to open the lock on the bottom right and it will request the admin password. Should your name not be there, select it by clicking on the plus sign on the bottom right and selecting your user name. Select Read&Write privilege and under the gear wheel beside the plus and minus signs,Make sure you apply to enclosed items.
      It sounds like you somehow got them buggered. Rebuilding the permission table should of cleared up the problem. This could be a case of booting with your install DVD and rebuilding permissions from there.
                                                        Food for thought.
Next time you even think of modifying anything in you user library, Duplicate the whole folder and then you have a reference to go by. Just make sure that it is deleted after you are finished. This should be a standard step when troubleshooting. Changing something.....make a copy.

Search should look at address book notes & application data

Search is basically useless to me, I used to have the ability to categorize my address book, or at the very least make a note in a contact that was searchable. (For example, "work" in the note section of a contact would result in search results of just the contacts with this note, go figure!) I also have lots of stuff in alternate notes programs that is not searchable. Not much of a reach to make data entered into an "i-device" searchable, I think a few software engineers should be able to tackle this insurmountable problem! I paid $500 for a device that has fewer options than my Palm Pilot did 8 years ago!(and in regards to searches, is absolutely inferior)Sounds like the only way to get apple to address an issue is to make lots of noise in this support forum. Sorry to waste anyone's time.

I just had this same problem. I use multiple mac computers that I sync manually because of a previous idisk issue. I noticed as I updated my cloud, the search function in address book quit working properly on each computer.
So created a new group list and I attempted to copy "All Contacts" into that group. It would not copy all my contacts into that group in one paste function. So I took all the the first 25 names and copied them. That worked. Then I moved to the next 26-50 names and so on. I noticed when I got to the fourth group of copying contacts that it did not paste and froze the application.
I quit address book, reopened it. All the contacts before the the fourth group were in the file. The search function worked on those names. I then went card by card and found one that had a "string" of data listed where an email address should I have been. So I deleted the corrupt card and now my address book search is working again.
Here is the short solve. Look for a corrupt card in your address book. I found the corrupt card by trying to copy it over to a new address group. The card that was corrupt just happened to be one that I had updated in the last week or so...

Address book opens and closes by itself

When I'm happily working away on my macbook pro, the address book will open automatically, for about 2 seconds, then close automatically. It usually opens my contact card, but occasionally others as well.
Is anyone else having this issue, and/or can someone explain why this is happening, or how to correct this annoying 'problem'?
I thought it might be a virus, so I purchased Intego VirusBarrier X4.
I'm running bootcamp with XP SP2 and McAffee antivirus.
The system is clean, at least according to both antiviral software.

You probably have a piece of software such as a Dashboard widget, or a plug-in, or a system utility, or something like that, that requires Address Book to be running for whatever it does.

Bulk change Address Book with Application or AppleScript

Dear all,
I'm an idiot. For all my contacts, I put the company that the person works for in the Suffix field of the Address Book entry.
I would like to change all my contacts such that the information in the Suffix field is moved to the Company field.
Is there an application or an AppleScript that I can use?

Address Book Updation Application runs successufully but problem in runing

Hi all,
I develop a small application which updates the contact numbers from the Adress Book. and for that i use PIM API....
i sotre some number in following folder
appdb\DefaultColorPhone\pim\contacts\Contacts
now when i run my application it successfully updates all number..
but when i try this application on Nokia 7360 the application is install correctly and run also correclty but it does not updates any number...
I use Infrared to transfer the application from my PC to Mobile....
And i also check the PIM suport in the device ..The device support the PIM 1.0
I can not able to find the problem ....Can any one help me to solve the problem?.....

No "Copy All to Address Book" option in SIM menu, BlackBerry 8100

Hi! I'm new here...so glad I found this forum! I have searched high and low but have not found a way to solve this problem. I've updated my device software, desktop manager, everything I can think of. I even went back into the Setup Wizard and selected the option to copy my SIM contacts to the Address Book. It looked like it copied them over, but when I went to check, nothing showed up.
I've gone into the Filter menu while in Address Book and nothing is checked, yet nothing shows up. I've gone into the Address Book, then SIM Phone Book from the menu, then hit the menu button again and the only options I have are:
New
Call Voicemail
SMS Text Voicemail
MMS Voicemail
Add to Address Book
Switch Application
Close
No "Copy All" option anywhere to be found. This is a BlackBerry 8100. Help! Any suggestions! Filters are off, Setup Wizard's been tried and retried and nothing appears in the Address Book. HELP!

Actually, just yesterday I figured out the problem. Once in the SIM address book I only had to scroll down past the "Voicemail" entry a couple entries down and then when I clicked the menu button the option to "Copy All to Address Book" appeared. All that time and all I had to do was scroll past the first entry. Sheesh!

In Lion, can I hide the address book without the application closing?

In Snow Leopard, when I clicked the red circle in the upper left-hand corner of the address book, the application automatically hid without closing entirely. In Lion, the same action closes the application so every time I need to use it, the address book has to reopen and reboot. Is there a way to change my preferences so the application hides instead of closing?

I have to keep a number of documents and other files minimized, which really crowds my dock. I'd rather be able to hide applications like calendar (which hides without an issue) and address book. I'm not sure why apple made this change. Most of the other appliations work this way—hiding when you hit the red button. I've been minimizing, but finding it a cumbersome way to use the application.

Address Book missing from Application Support

I need to locate the unique ID from Address Book in Application Support to use on my iPhone 3G to use iCloud, only Address Book is nowhere to be found in Application Support - anywhere.
Please can someone show me how to find it, in easy terms?

Open Finder, hold down the option key while selecting Go menu. Select Library. From that window, navigate to your AddressBook folder.
You were likely looking in the main Library, not your own Library.

Address Book application no longer launches

I broke my laptop a few weeks ago and had the data manually retrieved and put on a hard drive. I bought a new macbook pro earlier and I was manually transferring the application files when i think i accidentally overwrote the address book application. Note my old computer was using tiger - so every time I try to launch address book it says something like this address book doesnt work with this version of Mac OS X. So I deleted Address Book from application and ran the 10.5.3 update. Address Book is back, but now has no logo (it looks like the application logo) and doesn't do anything when I click on it.
How do I get my address book back!?

An update won't replace the whole program. You either need to get it from the instal DVD or copy from a Leopard version, then run update, again.
Pacivist will allow you to pull individual programs off the install DVD.

Address Book crashing when I tried to close the app - it would not close

Address book would not close whrn I tried to quit the app. I keep having to force the app to close. The message said "address book not responding". I would appreciate any suggestion. Thanks.

Error Opening Address Book, iChat, iCal and Big Bang Board Games

I mistakenly trashed the applications list. In order to restore the applications list, I pulled the list out of trash to the desktop and then back to the sidebar. At this point, the applications were not available to the other users of the computer. I then copied the list to the universal applications folder. Now, all but the Address Book, iCal, iChat and Big Bang Board Games work. These applications close "unexpectedly" when I try and open them. Try a couple of things.
Run repair disk from your software install DVD (until it reports no errors).
If that does not work, I would opt for an archive and install:

A&I installs a pristine version of OS X (which would have to be updated, of course) while preserving your files, programs, and settings.

ICal, Mail, and Address Book won't open

When I open Mail, iCal, or Address Book, the application bounces a couple times in the dock and then immediately closes. Any idea what might be causing this and how I can fix it?
I've repaired file permissions and that didn't work. I also tried (as suggested in another forum) removing the folder ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook , to no avail.
Immediately before this problem occurred, I ran PACE's repair prebinding script (I need to do this occasionally to run Pro Tools on 10.4.10), but I'm not sure if that's related. I've run the script a few times before without any problems.

I went through the FAQ up through number 7 (the next step is uninstalling the application). I figured I would try one more time before I go through the pain of re-installing the three application without losing my emails, calendar items, etc. The error log for all three have the following line:
