Address/E-mail Password Protection?

Can the address book and e-mail be password protected?

On an iOS device no, at the moment those two apps can't be individually protected - only the built-in apps that are listed in Settings > General > Restrictions can be hidden

  • Looking for App/Setting for Messages/Mail password protection

Well its a bit simply really, I am just looking for something that will allow me to password protect mainly my messages, although it would be nice if i could password protect other apps or things on my phone, but its mainly for messages
Is there some kind of app that will allow me to do this?
I dont think there is anything in settings but a general password, which it only asks for when you unlock the phone

I've has smartphones since before they were called that, and I've never had one that could password protect only the email app. There's nothing to understand or not understand; the iPhone cannot password protect just email. You can lock the phone with a passcode. That's it.

  • Is there a way to password protect an I-Mail Message?

Is there a way to password Protect an I-Mail Message

Go to InstantSSL and request a free S/MIME signing certificate. It's valid for a year, only for the address you specify. You'll be prompted to set a revocation password, which you'll need if you ever want to stop the key from being trusted. I suggest you save the password as a secure note item in the keychain.
Click the link in the message you'll receive at that address. A file named "CollectCCC.p7s" will be downloaded in your web browser. Double-click the file. It will open in Keychain Access. Confirm that you want to import the keys it contains.
Two items will be added to the keychain you specify. Both are named "Key from secure.instantssl.com". One is of typeprivate key and one is of type public key. You'll want to delete those items when the key expires or is revoked.
Quit and relaunch Mail. When you next compose a message from the certified address, you'll have the option to sign it.
The first time you sign a message with the new certificate, you'll be prompted to allow Mail to use it in the keychain. Click Always Allow.
    Important:
You must quit and relaunch Mail before the certficiate will be recognized.
Mail that is only signed is not encrypted; anyone can read it. The recipient can be reasonably sure that it came unaltered from a person who receives mail at the sender's address. That is not proof of the sender's identity.
To encrypt messages, the recipieint must already have gone through a similar setup process, and you must know his or her public key. The key can be sent to you in the clear, attached to a signed message, but again, you have no proof of the sender's identity. All you know is that he can receive mail at the specified address.

  • How do I password protect information in my address book ?

I store all my passwords etc. in Address Book. Can I protect it somehow ?
Is there a better app for this ?

A better location for storing passwords is your login Keychain or you can create an additional Keychain for this purpose.
You can't password protect the Address Book application or the Mail application, etc. but you shouldn't allow anyone else access to your Mac via your login account when you are not present.
You can create an additional computer login account for a regular user of your Mac with or without computer admin privileges. Each login account has its own Home folder/directory for storing data with each user's Home folder/directory kept separate and protected from other users. Enable Fast User Switching which makes the process of switching between multiple login accounts a fast and easy process and disable automatic login for your login account or for all login accounts which will require manually entering your login password during a computer startup restart and with Fast User Switching to gain access to your login account and Home folder/directory and all data stored within.
I have automatic login disabled for my login account even though I'm the only user of my Mac. I also require my login account password to wake the computer from sleep or screen saver.

  • Password protecting mail app and permanent deletion of emails so they don't appear in spotlight search

I realise that there is a temporary way to prevent this happening by unticking the 'mail' option in the spotlight search settings menu, but how do you permanently delete the emails? I assumed that when I hit delete then emptied the trash box, the mails were gone for good. But finding that they remain stored in some hidden place and can be easily accessed is very annoying! In fact, finding that other users can quickly change the settings back and have free access to my email is rather disturbing anyway, especially as there is no way to password protect my email account once i activate the mail app. the apple mail app is linked to my yahoo account, but within yahoo mail there seems to be no problem in regards to deleted mail being stored somewhere else, only within the apple app system.
So i guess id like to know, is there some way to password protect my account or do I just need to keep deleting my account before lending the ipad to someone else and then reinstating it? And is there any way to properly delete emails for good?
I would be happy just to go without the mail app and log in directly through yahoo in Safari, except that I find the notification alert when I receive a new mail very handy!!

[edit] I dragged the email I sent through the MBP Mail app (under MAILBOXES > Sent > Yahoo!) to the highlighted Sent folder (YAHOO! > Sent), and now it shows up on all Yahoo Sent folders (iPad app, web browser, phone app). Not entirely solved the issue but will use web browser to sent future emails to keep everything in sync.

  • E Mailed Zip Files showing up as Password Protected

I export photos to a folder, create zip file, and then e mail them as a regular part of my business. Sometimes these show up to the recipient as a "Password Protected" file. Any idea why???

None, but I reckon that's either Mail or an OS X issue for your version of the Operating System. So I would post on one of those forums.

You first need to understand the basic structure of a Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) body.
That is what an e-mail is. That is what mail readers create when sending mail. That is what mail readers expects and renders when receiving mail.
A mail attachment cannot be password protected via MIME itself. The MIME specs do not support password protected "boundary pieces" in a MIME body.
A MIME body can however contain multiple attachments and different types of attachment. From text and html to images and video.
It can also include a binary attachment like a zipfile. That zipfile can be protected by a password.
An import point to keep in mind that attaching an binary file to a MIME body (e-mail) means:
    a) creating a MIME payload/boundary piece for that file in the mail body
    b) reading the contents of that file
    c) uu encoding that file (it basically needs to be 7bit ASCII and not 8bit to survive intact across networking infrastructure)
    d) writing that encoded text as the attachment piece into the mail body
None of this has however anything to do with SQL or PL/SQL specifically. What is needed is a clear understanding of the mail body (MIME) that your code needs to create.

  • Is there a way to password-protect the Mail app?

I've looked through the Settings and didn't see anything. I know I can password-protect the entire device, but that seems like overkill.
Is there something I'm missing or even an app that would let me password-protect just the Mail app?

Seriously, if I want to hand someone my Touch, there's no way of keeping them from accessing my email? Why wouldn't there be a setting to secure your mail -- or, to paraphrase the ads, why isn't there "an app for that"?
