ADF and JDeveloper Help

Hi Gurus,
I am currently working on Oracle Forms 10g Release 1.
I would like to learn Jdeveloper and ADF by inititally installing them on my PC look into it.
1. In that case what should I install on my PC??
2. Can you please suggest me some online materials to learn both Jdeveloper and ADF.
3. Also please suggest me some Good Books which I can buy to learn both Jdeveloper and ADF.
4. Is knowledge of java required to work on both these technologies?
Any help on these is very much appreciated.
Thanks and Regards,

Hi,
1. First thing I would do is install JDeveloper. You can down load JDeveloper at
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/index.html
2. Also you can find the online tutorials, documents, white papers etc on the same page mentioned above.
3. The One suggested by some one in the thread.
4. I would say you need some java required to work on these technologies.
Hope this helps
Regards,
Praveen

    Thanks for the prompt reply,
    the session works like a charm, thanks.
    I am still not sure how I can feed back ActionErrors from the named event to the JSP page however. I think I have seen the paper you are talking about on the OTN and it has got me as far as I am now with the named events (onSubmitLogin) but I am still not able to find out how errors can be signalled back to the same page, if required. I can certainly do an actionContext.setForward("error"); and follow the error forward back to the same page, but I can't get my errors to show up in the html:error tag
    Also, I am not quite sure I follow what you say about the login information being stored in a ViewObject. Is this a particular view object, and if so, which one? How can I get from having a username and password field in a JSP page to putting the right credentials into the right View Object in order to allow ADF to use the tagish JAAS stuff? (I have already changed the jbo.security settings to what I think are the correct ones based on the JDeveloper help).
    Thanks again

  • Problem in Oracle ADF with JDeveloper. JBO25001

    Hello All,
    I have to develop an application using oracle ADF and JDeveloper. To famalirize my self with the technology, I downloaded the Oracle ADF tutorial "Tutorial for Forms/4GL developers" from Oracle site.
    I am following this tutorial line by line, but still getting an error. I have created
    1) Entities
    2) Associations
    3) Views
    4) ViewLinks
    5) Application Module
    all by wizard.
    After I added my view and view link into the application module and tried to test it it gave me the following error.
    (oracle.jbo.common.ampool.ApplicationPoolException) JBO-30003: The application pool (.10E97657A25) failed to checkout an application module due to the following exception:

    I changed the names of each object but still the problem persisted.
    If any body can help me on this I will really appreciate it. Thanx a ton in advance.
    I have downloaded and using the latest JDeveloper version 10.1.3.1.0.3984
    Please help me on this.
    Regards,
    Saket Maheshwary

    Saket,
    Did you ever get this situation resolved?
    I'm working thru the tutorial myself and get the same error except the object is Product.
    Do you have any clues?

  • Best Practices for BI, ADF and Oracle Forms installations on Weblogic

    Hi, I'm researching options on upgrading to Oracle 11g Middleware. My company currently has Oracle Forms 10g running on Oracle Application Server.
    We are interested in using Oracle Forms 11g, ADF and Jdeveloper, and Business Intelligence with Oracle's Weblogic 10.3.5.
    Is there any whitepapers or documentation on best practices for installing alll of these components together?
    For instance, can ADF ( with JSF 2.x ) be installed in the same domain as Oracle Forms 11g but use different managed servers?
    Will Business Intelligence need to be in a seperate Oracle Home with it's own weblogic installation? I spend a lot of time trying to get the JSF upgraded to 2.x in the Business Intelligence installation and could not get it to work.
    I know it's a pretty broad question but thank you for any direction on this.

    Thanx for the reply! I read through the documents and they are very good at explaining how to install the different components individually. I still can't find much on installing them together. I hope it's not just going to be a trial and error thing.
    So far I've installed done the following successfully:
    Installed 10.3.5 weblogic
    Forms and Reports 11g on top of 10.3.5
    I've created an additional managed server for our ADF applications.
    My next step is upgrading the JSF to 2.x. I would have to stage patches 12917525 and 12979653. I'm afraid it will break the forms and reports though. Any ideas?

  • ADF and portlet?

  • ADF and Opera 9.02

    Hi!
    Has anyone ever had the problem like described below? Any hints on how to solve it?
    We are developing web application using ADF and jdeveloper.
    The application works fine with IE and Mozilla.
    However when tested with Opera 9.02, it shows some javascript error.
    Basically, I validate the input using customized javascript not the oracle version.
    This function called by the onclick event, and will return false if the fields are empty, hence prevent the form submission.
    However, after this function is called, all others links for navigation (af:commandLink etc), don't work anymore. These links don't call the validation function.
    A javascript error message shown by opera says the following:
    JavaScript - https://servername/Welcome.jspx
    Event thread: click
    Error:
    Unhandled exception: [Object DOMException]
    code: 12
    message: SYNTAX_ERR - Form didn't validate in submit()
    Backtrace:
    Line 2974 of linked script https://servername/adf/jsLibs/Common10_1_3_0_4.js
    form.submit();
    Line 1 of script
    submitForm("mainForm", 1, {source : "mainForm:welcomepanel:_id230"});
    return false;
    At unknown location
    [statement source code not available]
    JavaScript - https://servername/Welcome.jspx
    Event thread: click
    Error:
    Unhandled exception: [Object DOMException]
    code: 12
    message: SYNTAX_ERR - Form didn't validate in submit()
    Backtrace:
    Line 2974 of linked script https://servername/adf/jsLibs/Common10_1_3_0_4.js

    submitForm("mainForm", 1, {source : "mainForm:welcomepanel:_id230"});
    return false;
    At unknown location
    [statement source code not available]

    by the way, for each input element that needs to be validated, I added an extra properties like the following:
    function setLoginRequiredFields(f) {
    // this function will go through the form objects
    // and check if there is the object that we are intrested with
    for(var i = 0; i < f.length; i++) {
    switch(f.elements.name)
    case "mainForm:loginpanel:username":
    f.elements[i].required = "Membership Number";
    break
    case "mainForm:loginpanel:password":
    f.elements[i].required = "Password";
    break
    default:
    f.elements[i].required = "";
    // no match
    return false;
    the function which called upon onclick event, checks that property and if it is not empty will validate the value of the element.

  • Database Lite and JDeveloper / ADF

    Hello,
    I'm planning to create a small application which will run on mobile PC in an off-line mode, having synchronization with master DB once connected to the proper network.
    The main architecture on the target PC may be :
    - Oracle Lite
    - GlassFish
    - ADF application
    I downloaded JDeveloper 11.1.1.3.0 and the latest version of Oracle Lite (10.3.0.3).
    I'm looking the tutorials but none of them are talking about the JDeveloper 11g version, they all speak about BC4J/OC4J. Since I'm new to Oracle's product I don't know these "products" (framework ?) and in the 11g version this seems to have disappeared.
    Are those versions compatible with each other ?
    Will the tutorial work ?
    Regards
    PS: the same thread is present on the JDeveloper forum

    The main thread will be the one on JDeveloper section :)

  • Jdeveloper, adf and xmp

    Dear sirs, i belong to a company that have one ERP, developed using oracle forms.
    We are in the process of remake it using JDEV ,ADF, and ADF_BC.
    I have a real need, ours ERP costumers have the need to change a lot of the aplications reports, including data fields, well personalize it , etc.
    We are thinking of using the XMLP and the JDEV and doing the reporting of ERP by XMLP. My question is can i do the reports (basic ones) combining both technologies, to allow later my costumers to be able to change (if they need) the layout of the reports using XMLP Desktop or any other very basic (easy) technologie).
    Well Thanks in advance.
    Paulo J. Costa

    Paulo,
    of course you can do using the Java APIs of XML Publisher. Furthermore there are plans to make XML Publisher the reporting framework for ADF.

  • ADF FACES: jdeveloper hangs on opening a .jspx file

    I may not have had this file open since updating to EA13, but I'm not positive. Upon trying to open the file (code below), jdeveloper hangs. It sucks down roughly 50% of the CPU and the memory footprint slowly grows (about 3 MB per minute). As of now, I've tried restarting jdeveloper and then opening the file, but the behavior is the same. I have let it run for nearly 15 minutes and it is still hung (to the point that the display is not redrawn when a window, such as the task manager, is closed after obscuring part of the jdeveloper window).

    Helo there,
    I am having exactly the same problem, everytime I include af:forEach tag inside the af:selectOneChoice for example, preview of JSP is not shown and whole developer hangs, in task manager I can see 100% CPU occupation by JDeveloper.
    But the code itself is ok, if I run the page while editor is in Source mode Page is properly shown in browser, but when I change editor mode to Design it hangs.
    I am using Faces EA17 and JDeveloper 10.1.3
    Does anybody else face the same issue?

  • Issue in using ADF Instructions based help

    Hi,
    I am using JDeveloper 11.1.2.0.0 and i am using ADF Instructions based help for fields . By default it is displaying first the description of the field and then followed by the field name provided but as per my requirement it should be the vice versa - First the field name and then the description of the field. How do i achieve the same.

    Hi Frank ,
    Yes you are correct. I am talking about Oracle ADF instructional help.
    http://one-size-doesnt-fit-all.blogspot.com/2009/04/adf-faces-rc-displaying-user-help.html
    Kept the above link as sample reference . But i am getting the description of the field first and then the field id . But my requirement is to get the field id first and then the description.

  • Oracle ADF in JDeveloper

    I am new to both ADF Faces & JDeveloper and I tried the sample application Master/Detail/Detail/Detail program which is posted in http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2004/09/23/notYetDocumentedAdfSampleApplications.html. What is the possible way to give the foreign key reference between two entities in JDEveloper. Physically there is no relation between these two tables(Entities).
    It would be helpful if you give me a basic steps required to re create this application.
    Thanks in advance

    See section 5.10.2 "How to Create Master/Detail Hierarchies Using View Links" in the ADF Developer's Guide for Forms/4GL Developers on the ADF Learning Center at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/adf/learnadf.html
    There is no requirement that the master/detail relationship you setup be based on an underlying foreign key at the DB level.
    The sample you reference just uses the above technique to create a 4-level master/detail hierarchy, and then the pages were created by dragging and dropping appropriate collections from the data control palette.

  • The missing ring between Designer and JDeveloper.

    I'm a user of both Designer and JDeveloper and I found a difficulty in making both updated at once.
    I would like to have something wich can help to map Designer table definitions to ADF entities but I still don't see anything usefull.
    I hoped the integration between Desigern and JDev could help me, but it's based upon Modules and not upot tables and then is useless.
    I looked for Jheadstart but it seems to have similar problems.
    Is there any plan to fill the gap ?
    Is there any viable soluntion already done ?
    Tks
