ADF BC : Ant and XSLT to modify bc4j.xcfg and DataBindings.cpx

hi
Before I deploy my ADF BC / ADF Swing application I would like to use Ant to make some changes to bc4j.xcfg and DataBindings.cpx
(see also "Defining ADF Business Components Runtime Properties for ADF Swing Applications" in the JDeveloper documentation)
I would like DataBindings.cpx to point to the correct configuration and bc4j.xcfg to only contain the configuration information that is required.
I created some XSLT transformation stylesheets to help me with that, see this example application:
http://verveja.footsteps.be/~verveja/files/oracle/AntXsltConnectionSwitchStuff-v0.02.zip
question
Does JDeveloper itself provide any features to automatically make changes to DataBindings.cpx (and bc4j.xcfg) before deployment?
many thanks

  • How can I dynamic modify bc4j.xcfg

    Hi,
    I am developing application using Jclient and BC4J.
    I would like to let users to select different database, user account and change their password in the application runtime period.
    Since BC4J uses bc4j.xcfg xml file to connect to database. How can I write code to modify the bc4j.xcfg file
    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    I plan to solve the same problem (but JSP client, not JClient).
    And I thing solution is How To Support Dynamic JDBC Credentials (http://otn.oracle.com/products/jdev/howtos/bc4j/howto_dynamic_jdbc.html). But don't know if it applies to JClient too...

  • ADF BC: JBO-33001 Can`t find bc4j.xcfg in classpath

    When i run my application (in JDeveloper 10.1.2.1.0.1913) and execute a "bc4jUtil.getAppMod" it gives me the JBO-33001 exception.
    The thing is that i changed the directory where my Application Modules, Views, Entities were (because of needs of the project i had to move three BC4J projects to one) and it seems like is looking for the old bc4j.xcfg
    I’ve been looking in all my files, in all the jpr and jpx files, all the views, the Application Modules… but I can’t find where it makes the reference to that file…
    Can anybody help me please??

    It doesn't ever make explicit reference to that file, however we expect the bc4j.xcfg file for an application module in package "a.b.c.d" to be in the directory ./a/b/c/d/common in the runtime classpath.
    It stores your configurations, so without it the AM doesn't know any of its runtime settings.
    I'd have to see exactly what your bc4jUtil.getAppMod method is doing, but in general if you create the application module using our runtime configuration support (which is always the case if you let the framework create it for you or use the Configuration.createRootApplicationModule API) then this bc4j.xcfg file will need to be where I mentioned.

  • JDev10g and DataBindings.cpx

    Hello,
    we have several problems with the cpx and the MyXyzPanelUIModel.xml files. In general we appreciate the xml on the client. But in the current state it seems almost unusable.
    1. 10g creates "DataBindings.cpx" instead of "<prj_name>.cpx". This prevents us from seperating the client tier into several projects because "DataBindings.cpx" must be unique on the classpath. The Online-Help chapter "About the Client Project Configuration File" says that the cpx name is derived from the project name (like in 9.0.3).
    2. JClient Form Wizard generates a code line
    mgr.loadCpx("DataBindings.cpx", map);
    in the main class. loadCpx parses the cpx and creates a database session for each data control node (application module). Is this really the wanted behavior for a JClient application? Create N sessions even if a special end user only works with one data form (because he has restricted access rights in the applaction).
    3. Only the first data form in a JClient project can be executed. Trying to execute a second data form results in a JBO-25003 exception:
    (oracle.jbo.NoObjException) JBO-25003:
    Object MyXyzView of type View Object not found
    Regards
    M. Thal

    3. Only the first data form in a JClient project can be executed. Trying to execute a second data form results in a JBO-25003 exception:
    (oracle.jbo.NoObjException) JBO-25003: Object MyXyzView of type View Object not found
    We just used the wizards to perform the following steps:
    - create a new workspace
    - create a BC4J-project containing some entities, views and at least 2 application modules
    use different views as data model
    - create an empty project for the client
    - create a Swing/JClient for ADF Form
    Step2: choose Form Layout "Table"
    Step3: create a new Data Model Definition for the first application module
    (DataBindings.cpx contains one DataControl node)
    - compile and run --> OK
    - create another Swing/JClient for ADF Form
    Step2: choose Form Layout "Table"
    Step3: create a new Data Model Definition for the second application module
    (DataBindings.cpx now contains two DataControl nodes)
    - compile and run --> JBO-25003 (view not found)
    The first generated form still executes ok. The exception occurs in the jbInit method of the panel class:
    tableMyXyzView.setModel((TableModel)panelBinding.bindUIControl("MyXyzView", tableMyXyzView));
    Using Form Layout "Single columns (label left)" throws an exception, too. Not sure: either the same or JBO-25058 (attribute not found).
    It seems that only views and attributes from the first application module can be accessed.
    Now the following steps corrupt the cpx:
    - create a third Swing/JClient for ADF Form
    Step2: choose Form Layout "Single columns (label left)"
    Step3: select the first Data Model Definition from the list
    Step6: choose another package name, use the same form and panel class names as for the first data form
    - compile and run --> OK
    But running the first data form results in:
    JBO-29000: Unexpected exception caught: java.lang.NullPointerException, msg=null
    The cpx "Containee" node of the first data form (using a table) has been replaced by a reference to the new package (using text fields).
    The containee id "PanelMyXyzViewUIModel" is not unique in the project scope. The test case requires references for myPackage.PanelMyXyzViewViewUIModel and myOtherPackage.PanelMyXyzViewViewUIModel.
    Hope this helps.

  • Bc4j.xcfg, database connections and deploying ADF apps to oc4j

    I'm trying to understand how to enable custom database connections on a JDeveloper ADF application deployed to a stand-alone instance of OC4J.
    All entity objects were created as ADF Business Components.
    I looks like the db connection information used by the application is stored in a file named "bc4j.xcfg".
    How would I change the database connection information between different environments, changing the server, port and password information from an OC4J instance?
    I'd like to use an OC4J defined data-sources.xml file, but am looking for the simplest approach for now.

    Tomato tomaato, call it what you will, we now have to spend time (money) figuring out how to change from using the recommended use of a "connection" from Oracle tutorials and in Oracle Press books.
    Plus, neither I nor our client can get JDeveloper ADF 10.1.3 to work on OAS 10.1.2.
    Oracle has been of little help, other than stating to follow documentation. We followed the documentation at least a dozen times and on three different install of OAS 10.1.2.
    Why doesn't JDeveloper have a check-box or button that reconfigures the application to run on 10.1.2 (J2EE 1.3), there is a check-box to change JDK versions (1.4)? This is suspect to me.
    We are going to be speaking with the client this week, and have to state the ADF application works, but NOT on OAS 10.1.2.
    Does ADF work on OAS 10.1.3, absolutely, but the client is in 10.1.2 and can not upgrade at this time.
    I've read in blogs where lots of developers have the same issues without resolution and Oracle should just come out and state that 10.1.3 does not work on 10.1.2.
    So my experience has been a mixed bag with ADF, both in terms of the software and customer support from Oracle.

  • Why ADF Business Components and TopLink

    Hi All,
    Why are there two types of components in Businses Tier? (ADF Business Components and TopLink). Even through there are other types, I can visualize the use of other components but ADF Business Components & TopLink seems to serve the same requirement.
    Can some one provide me information on what is the difference between these two and when to use which one?

    ADF Business Components (aka BC4J) are different from Toplink from approach point of view. Basically if you are more comfortable with SQL and want fine grain control over what and how SQL are run against the database, BC4J is the way to go, because, it's you who write the queries(in ViewObjects)
    If you are from more of java backgroup and can visualize things in term of Object and relationships among objects, so on and so forth then Toplink would be the right choice.

  • Building jars using ant and eclipse

    Note: If this post could be in a more appropriate forum category could someone please tell me which one is better.
    Vexing issue:
    I am using ANT so that it will take care of which classes have been modified and therefore which jars need to be updated.
    I noticed one way ANT can work is to look at the timestamp of the class files and then build the necessary jars. This works fine EXCEPT that eclipse has a nasty habit of sometimes recompiling everything, even when I dont ask it to. It would seem to make more sense basing the recompilation on the source files, and whether they have been modified. So I set this up with my build.xml, ie
    <target name="compile" depends="init"
    description="compile the source " >
    <!-- Compile the java code from ${src} into ${build} -->
    <javac srcdir="${src}" destdir="${build}" fork="true"/>
         </target>
    Now suppose I go and change one of my source files, ANT recompiles that file and that all works great. However, suppose that file had in it, which many do,
    public static String EXAMPLE_VARIABLE = "example";
    This static variable is referenced in many classes, and yet ANT only recompiles the one file, and thus there begins an inconsistency!
    Is there any way to get around this? I would have expected ANT to recompile all the files that depend on the class with the static variable but it doesnt.
    Any help much appreciated.
    Cel

    You know, that's a good question. I would think JVMs at runtime could resolve static variables, like when it compiles classes using that static variable it puts a placeholder "Hey, here I am using XXX, at runtime, figure it out and give me the value right at the start..". But I think it works like you suggest in that a static value is compiled into every location that uses it. The only thing I can think of is provide a target for a build-all in your ant and have it rebuild all.
    I agree though that the javac compiler should be smarter in how it compiles classes. Anytime a class has certain attributes that may be compiled in to other classes, it should check and recompile any class that depends on the static value that has changed.

  • ADF: Configuration.createRootApplicationModule() generates bc4j.xcfg error

    I am using JDeveloper 11.1.1.5 to create a web service which performs mathematical calculations based on a varying number of inputs. Some of the inputs serve as criteria for querying DB tables to obtain static numerical values. This static data is then plugged into a formula to produce the output of the service. My approach is to build an ADF application with 2 projects: a "service" project which contains a java-based web service created using the "Create Java Web Service From WSDL" wizard; a "model" project that consists of an Application Module and some read-only SQL query-based views as it's Data Model. Additionally, the AppModule.xml editing tool was used to generate an AppModuleImpl.java class and it's associated client interface classes. The intent is to instantiate the App Module from the service project and call a custom method to perform the required DB lookup. The code to do this looks as follows:
    In service implementation class (com.util.formula.service.FormulaCalculationServiceImpl.calculateLicensingFee):
    import com.sesac.formula.lkup.client.AppModuleClient; //generated by App Module Java Class wizard
    import oracle.jbo.client.Configuration;
    AppModuleClient lkup;
    try {
    lkup = (AppModuleClient)Configuration.createRootApplicationModule("com.util.formula.lkup.AppModule", "AppModuleLocal");
    } catch (Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    The following exception is always thrown:
    oracle.jbo.ConfigException: JBO-33001: Configuration file /com/util/formula/lkup/common/bc4j.xcfg is not found in the classpath.
         at oracle.jbo.client.Configuration.loadFromClassPath(Configuration.java:467)
         at oracle.jbo.common.ampool.PoolMgr.loadConfiguration(PoolMgr.java:600)
         at oracle.jbo.common.ampool.PoolMgr.findPool(PoolMgr.java:526)
         at oracle.jbo.client.Configuration.createRootApplicationModule(Configuration.java:1505)
         at oracle.jbo.client.Configuration.createRootApplicationModule(Configuration.java:1482)
         at com.util.formula.service.FormulaCalculationServiceImpl.calculateLicensingFee(FormulaCalculationServiceImpl.java:28)
    ... more
    The service project Properties -> Dependencies specifies a dependency on the model project. I have tried making the dependency on both the Build Output and on the BC_Common.jar generated by the model project - neither works. I have exploded the the .war generated for the service project and verified that bc4j.xcfg does indeed exist at the classpath location described in the error message. It also exists in the BC_Common.jar at the correct location.
    I also tried the following alternative approach to instantiating the App Module:
    import com.util.formula.model.client.AppModuleClient;
    import oracle.adf.model.BindingContext;
    import oracle.jbo.uicli.binding.JUApplication;
    AppModuleClient lkup;
    try {
    BindingContext bc = oracle.adf.model.BindingContext.getCurrent();
    JUApplication japp = (JUApplication)bc.getCurrentBindingsEntry().get("AppModuleDataControl");
    lkup = (AppModuleClient)japp.getApplicationModule();
    } catch (Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    In this case, BindingContext.getCurrent() returns null.
    The same App Module that I'm unable to instantiate as above runs fine in Oracle Business Component Browser. I chose this approach because I have been using App Modules in the same development environment when they were directly bound to UI's and Service Interfaces with good success and I liked the features it provided. I've spent way too much time beating on this and searching every forum I could find. The example for using Configuration.createRootApplicationModule() came right out of Chapter 9, Section 10 of Oracle Fusion Middleware - Fusion Developer's Guide for Oracle Application Development Framework (11g Release 1). Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Tom

    I guess you get a new connection this way. If you have an ApplicationModule you can get the internal connection this way    public Connection getCurrentConnection(ApplicationModule aApp)
            Statement st = null;
            try
                // create Dummy Statement to get the connection
                st = aApp.getDBTransaction().createStatement(0);
                return st.getConnection();
            catch (SQLException s)
               // Log some message here and do something
            finally
                // close statement
                if (st != null)
                    try
                        st.close();
                    catch (SQLException s2)
        }Timo

  • Defining bc4j.xcfg for Webservice from ADF Application Module

    Hi all,
    I've already posted my previous question in JBO30003 while executing ADF Application Module WebService
    but no replies at all :)
    after thorough inspection, i found that why my client can connect to ADF AM and why my WebService Invocation is failed with JBO 300003. My J2EE Client application is connected to ADF AppModule with some configuration in CPX file.
    <JboProject
       id="DataBindings"
       xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adfm/application"
       version="10.1.2.18.73"

                   name="Sync"
                   value="Immediate" >
                </Parameter>
             </Parameters>
          </DataControl>
    and so forththis CPX file define that this client connect to Application Module on my AppServer with "AppModuleEmbeddedAS" configuration, as stated in my BC4J.XCFG.
    <AppModuleConfig name="AppModuleEmbeddedAS">

          </AppModuleConfig>Now, how could I define configuration like my J2EE Client in my web service? as we know that web service's client is web browser. Does it mean that we can't define any CPX file?
    FYI, My webservice's End Point pages is successly shown up. but when i invoke the method, it returns XML with faultmessage Error JBO30003.

    Hi,
    You can directly edit the bc4j.xcfg file. Note that the WebService binding is not created from the Am directly but from the deployed WSDL file.

  • What is difference between ADF Task Flow and Faces-Config - when delpoy ?

    What is difference between ADF Task Flow and Faces-Config? When I create navigation between pages with ADF task flow then the navigation don't work when I deploy my application to Weblogic 10.3. When I use default server then navigation works fine. With Faces_config in both situations all works ok - on Stanalone server and default.
    Where is the problem?
    Best regards!

    Shay, I don't use both faces-config and adf task flow! When I failed with task flow I tried faces-config.
    I have active on my weblogic - adf.oracle.domain(1.0,11.1.1.0.0). This is the right ADF? If yes then where is the problem?
    Best regards!

  • "bc4j.xcfg" file not in classpath  (and not in JAR file)

    Hi, this is a very similar problem to one reported today. I have created a JClient application that connects to a DB and displays some info in a JFrame. • Packages, Classpath, Ant, and JUnit (setting up a nice environment)

    Hi,
    I am seeking a little help getting up and running, creating a nice environment where I can build a Java project, including building with Ant and using JUnit - hopefully this is the right forum. I am having some trouble in getting JUnit to run my tests properly (it is installed and findable by my Java install) and I think this is due to a package/classpath issue that is currently outside my experience. Here's my setup to explain:
    I have installed the JUnit jar in my extensions folder, and it works properly (I can call it, don't get errors about JUnit), however, when I run my test I get the error:
    "Could not find class: org.xxx.powersim.ModelTest
    Time: 0
    OK (0 tests)
    Java Result: 1"
    ModelTest has been compiled properly without error, and looks like this:
    package org.xxx.powersim;
    import org.junit.*;
    import static org.junit.Assert.*;
    import java.util.*;
    public final class ModelTest {
         public static void main(String args[]) {
               org.junit.runner.JUnitCore.main("org.xxx.powersim.ModelTest");
         @Test
         public void testJunit() {
              assertTrue(true);
    }Pretty simple stuff.
    As you can see I'm trying to use the 'main' method of the test to execute the test itself... but I've tried running it via the runner from the command line also: "java org.junit.runner.JUnitCore org.xxx.powersim.ModelTest". I get the same result.
    It might be a package issue, so here's how I have things set up in the file system:
    PowerSim
         /build
              /org
                   /xxx
                        /powersim
                             - ModelTest.class
         /src
              /org
                   /xxx
                        /powersim
                             -ModelTest.javaI've tried running it within Ant, by hand using the runner, by hand calling the main method, and from within TextMate's built-in bundle - I get the same result. JUnit is installed and running fine, but it can't seem to see the test class - the more I think about it this is a package problem that I'm just not sure how to fix. I've tried running it by hand in the root /PowerSim directory, in the /build folder, and in the /powersim folder where ModelTest is. I still get the error that "Could not find class: org.xxx.powersim.ModelTest".
    My files compile just fine with my simple Ant script which is as follows:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <project name="PowerSim" default="run" basedir=".">
    <property name="src" value="./src"/>
    <property name="build" value="./build"/>
    <property name="compile.debug"       value="true"/>
    <path id="compile.classpath">
       <pathelement location="${mysql.jdbc}"/>
       <pathelement location="${junit.jar}"/>
    </path>
       <target name="build" depends="init">
           <javac srcdir="${src}"
                  destdir="${build}"
                  debug="${compile.debug}"
                  source="1.5">
              <classpath refid="compile.classpath"/>
           </javac>
       </target>
    <target name="init">
       <mkdir dir="${build}"/>
    </target>
    <target name="run" depends="build">
       <java classname="org.xxx.powersim.Model"
           fork="true"
           dir="${build}"
           classpath="${build}"
           maxmemory="500m">
       </java>
       </target>
         <target name="test" depends="build">
             <java classname="org.xxx.powersim.ModelTest"
                 fork="yes"
                 dir="${build}"
                 classpath="${build}"
                 maxmemory="500m">
             </java>
             </target>
    <target name="clean" description="Removes previous build">
       <delete verbose="true">
         <fileset dir="${build}"/>
       </delete>
    </target>
    </project>As you can see, I'm not sure what to try next - any help would be much appreciated.
    I've tried adding things to my $CLASSPATH. For example I've added the root folder of the project, 'PowerSim' to my classpath, but this appears to have no effect. I am running OS X 10.5.
    Thanks again for any help you may be able to offer, it will be very much appreciated,
    - Peter

    Ok - final bump and then I'll go away.
    (Really - if anyone has any advice that would be great)

  • ADF BC : many bc4j.xcfg files created

    hi
    Please consider this scenario using JDeveloper 10.1.3.3.0 to see that many bc4j.xcfg files are created when selecting a different connection:
    (1) First download Steve's example 116 (only 80 KB).
    (2) Unzip it and open MultipleLevelsOfReferenceAttributes.jws in JDeveloper 10.1.3.3.0 (where it will be migrated from JDeveloper 10.1.3.2.0 in which it was created).
    (3) In the "Open Warning" dialog that says "You are about to migrate the application ... to JDeveloper version 10.1.3.3.0 file format. ..." click Yes.
    (4) In the "Migration Progress" dialog that says "Migration successfully completed for ..." click OK.
    (5) Double click on the "Project" project to get the Project Properties dialog.
    (6) Select the Business Components panel and select any valid connection, click OK.
    (7) Click on Save All in the toolbar.
    At this time the Project.jpr file has changed.
    It also has a few new new entries in the "ownerMap" list, of "nodeClass" "oracle.jbo.dt.jdevx.JdvXmlNode" and also "oracle.jbo.dt.jdevx.ui.JdxXcfgNode" referring to these bc4j.xcfg files :
    Project/src/test/entities/associations/common/bc4j.xcfg
    Project/src/test/entities/common/bc4j.xcfg
    Project/src/test/queries/common/bc4j.xcfg
    Project/src/test/queries/viewlinks/common/bc4j.xcfgThese bc4j.xcfg files were also created on the file system and were not in the example when downloaded (you could use Subversion to see the exact differences).
    question:
    Why are so many bc4j.xcfg files created?
    many thanks
    Jan Vervecken

    Thank you for trying to reproduce this Frank.
    I tried the complete scenario again, including the download, and it still reproduces for me.
    So, you don't see the 4 new bc4j.xcfg files in the "Project/src" folder?
    regards
    Jan Vervecken

  • ADF BC: createInsert and partial trigger

    I notice when i add a createInsert operation to my page and then the corresponding table, JDev will add a partialTrigger to the button.
    I don't see why.
    When i press the createInsert, the table should have the partialTrigger, not the createInsert button because the table should be refreshed in order to show the new row. But when i add the partialTrigger to the table, than it like an infinite loop. Table refreshes button, button refreshed table,...
    It's resolved by removing the partialTrigger from the button but i am wondering why jdev does it?
    I think it has something to do with the disabled state of the button but that does not make sense. THe same for the commit button. If you want everything to work with partialTriggers, then you have lots of buttons/tables linking to each other causing loops or does ADF notices that and takes care of it?

    Hi,
    I reproduce your case and I do not see any loop,
    about your question that why the createInsert need the partialtrigger :
    1-first of all it is because of the the disabled attribute which depends on the table
    2- Second, the table row selection is automatically partial, I mean when you click on the row partially the selected row is determind as it is done partially there is not any way
    for depended components on the table to notify about the state of the tree(changes of row or anything) so the depended component such as CreateInsert need to set the partial trigger.
    3-why the table does not need the partialtrigger at the time of drag and drop, the answer is easy because the default button that you drop on the page is not partialSubmit, so why any other depended component like Table, must have the partialtrigger?? it is only needed when the button is partialSubmit,
    I hope my answer is clear enough.
    to conclude, there is not any mistake or bug from Oracle for sure.

  • Problem in implements ADF Faces: Detecting and handling user session expiry

    Hello everybody
    I´m trying to implement a method to handle user session expiry as explained by frank nimphius in his blog.
    http://thepeninsulasedge.com/frank_nimphius/2007/08/22/adf-faces-detecting-and-handling-user-session-expiry/
    I have implemented the class bellow and add the filters in web.xml. However when I add the JavaServer Faces Servlet to sign the filter, my hole application get nuts. I try to publish the applicatoin in the OAS and it seems that it already starts expired.
    Someone konw what I´m doing wrong?
    I use the filter
    <filter>
    <filter-name>ApplicationSessionExpiryFilter</filter-name>
    <filter-class>adf.sample.ApplicationSessionExpiryFilter</filter-class>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>SessionTimeoutRedirect</param-name>
    <param-value>SessionExpired.jspx</param-value>
    </init-param>
    </filter>
    then I add
    XML:
    <filter-mapping>
    <filter-name>ApplicationSessionExpiryFilter</filter-name>
    <servlet-name>Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
    </filter-mapping>
    package adf.sample;
    import java.io.IOException;
    import javax.servlet.Filter;
    import javax.servlet.FilterChain;
    import javax.servlet.FilterConfig;
    import javax.servlet.ServletException;
    import javax.servlet.ServletRequest;
    import javax.servlet.ServletResponse;
    import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest;
    import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse;
    this is the class
    public class ApplicationSessionExpiryFilter implements Filter {
    private FilterConfig _filterConfig = null;
    public void init(FilterConfig filterConfig) throws ServletException {
    _filterConfig = filterConfig;
    public void destroy() {
    _filterConfig = null;
    public void doFilter(ServletRequest request, ServletResponse response,
    FilterChain chain) throws IOException, ServletException {
    String requestedSession = ((HttpServletRequest)request).getRequestedSessionId();
    String currentWebSession = ((HttpServletRequest)request).getSession().getId();
    boolean sessionOk = currentWebSession.equalsIgnoreCase(requestedSession);
    // if the requested session is null then this is the first application
    // request and "false" is acceptable
    if (!sessionOk && requestedSession != null){
    // the session has expired or renewed. Redirect request
    ((HttpServletResponse) response).sendRedirect(_filterConfig.getInitParameter("SessionTimeoutRedirect"));
    else{
    chain.doFilter(request, response);
    I'm really having trouble controlling user sessions. if someone know where I can get materials to learn how to implements session in Jdev ADF + BC, I´m very grateful.
    Thank you Marnie

    The class works fine.. the issue is when I add the this code into web.xml
    <filter-mapping>
    <filter-name>ApplicationSessionExpiryFilter</filter-name>
    <servlet-name>Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
