ADF BC merge records of 2 view objects into third

jdev 11.1.1.4
Hi,
1) how to merge records of 2 view objects into third view object?
2) how to search inside view object whether the record already exists?
I want to do this in AMImpl programmatically.

hi I find that I can use something as below but it will check for each row at a time.
String exp = "student_id=" + "'" + studentId.getValue() + "'" + " and " +
"pass_word=" + "'" + password.getValue() + "'";
vo.setWhereClause(exp);
so if there are 10 records(to compare) i have to loop it 10 times(with company id and order id in exp) which i will be getting from some view.
and have to execute query 10 times so i don't think this is a efficient approach.

    I have a view object which is based on the entity object, when I am trying to delete a row it failed because it has a child record associate with. I know the row is not delete from the database, but the record is deleted fromt the view.
    How to keep the record in the View object if delete failed?

    Hi,
    the row is not delete from the database,refresh the view . re-execute query and the view show the row

  • ADF BC / parametrized where clause in view object

    Did something change is this area ?
    I testing using bind variables (as parameters) definition in my view object but i got this error during execution in the component browser
    (oracle.jbo.expr.JISyntaxError) Variable to_number not recognized
    Some of my variables are defined with default value as expression to_number( null ).

    The easiest way to set an entity attribute as the current date is to mark the attribute as a history attribute, and choose createdOn as the history type.
    If you want to use a groovy expression, you can use:
    DBTransaction.currentDbTime
    to reference the current database time.
    Or, the simplest way currently to reference the current JVM time in the correct format for an oracle.jbo.domain.Date to accept it as a default would be to create a class like:
    import java.sql.Timestamp;
    import oracle.jbo.domain.Date;
    public class ADF {
      public static Date getCurrentDate() {
        return new Date(Date.getCurrentDate());
      public static Date getCurrentDateWithTime() {
        return new Date(new Timestamp(System.currentTimeMillis()));
    }and then use the groovy expression:
    ADF.currentDate
    or
    ADF.currentDateWithTime
    of course you can do the same thing "in-line" in the Groovy string, but it is less terse.
    We're considering adding some built-in methods to make some common operations like this easy from Groovy, but they are not in there currently.

  • ADF BC: range paging on dynamic view object

    hi!
    i have a dynamically generated sql query and i want to get the results one page at a time. for this to work i create at runtime a view object and try to use range paging:
    String sql = "SELECT ...";
    ViewObject vo = appModule.createViewObjectFromQueryStmt("tmpVO"+System.currentTimeMillis(), sql);
    vo.setRangeSize(pageSize);
    vo.setAccessMode(RowSet.RANGE_PAGING);
    vo.scrollToRangePage(pageNo);
    vo.getEstimatedRowCount();
    Row[] rows = vo.getAllRowsInRange();
    vo.remove();
    but when i run this it was pretty slow. so i traced the database session and saw that the executed query was the sql string, not the range paging select (SELECT * FROM (SELECT /*+ FIRST_ROWS */ IQ.*, ROWNUM AS Z_R_N FROM (...).
    i use range paging on other view objects that are not dynamically generated and it works fine. please tell me what can i do to get only the specified page from the data base.
    thank you

    PS: I am using JDev 10.1.3.36.73

    You have a couple of choices. You could create one view object with a bind variable parameter(s) and in the application module you have 10 instances of that VO with appropriate values set for the bind variable in each instance.
    Or if you are using the LOV feature of a VO then you can set an attribute to point to one VO and then using a view cirteria applied to that specific LOV you can then "filter" the data that would appear in that LOV.
    Does that help?

  • Getting data from view object into backing bean

    Hi,
    My requirement is explained below -
         I have a ADF editable table in a jsf page which is connected to backend database table. In the table there are 6 columns and only 2 are editable. So when user inputs a value in first input column an event is triggered such that the data for all the remaining columns should be fetched from another database table.
    Typically if we are not using ADF development environment. We would have had a simple business method which creates the sql query by taking the input from textbox with simple where clause and I would have got the data. I am not getting any idea how to do this in ADF. I have the second table as view object but how to access the view object from backing bean and get data based on the input given.

    Hi,
    step 1) Expose a method on the ViewObject Impl class
    step 2) define arguments for the method as needed to identify the row to read data from
    step 3) retrieve the row from the VO that holds the data you want to add and return a HashMap with this information
    step 4) expose the method on the client interface (Java menu selection on the View Object)
    step 5) In the PageDef file, create a method binding to the method you exposed on the ViewObjectImpl
    step 6) Call the method binding from the managed bean like
    OperationBinding getDataFromVO = (OperationBinding) BindingContext.getCurrent().getCurrentBindingsEntry().get("Name of method binding);
    getDataFromVO.getParamsMap().put("name of arguments1", value1);
    getDataFromVO.getParamsMap().put("name of arguments2", value2);
    Object retData = getDataFromVO.execute();
    if(retData != null && getDataFromVO.getErrors().size()==0){
      HashMap retDataMap = (HashMap) retData;
    ... follow the rest of your logic ....

  • ADF table and ADF form on the same view object

    Hi,
    As per the ADF demos available on ADF site, I created a jsf page with 2 panels. One panel is an ADF table based on a view object. And the other panel is and ADF form based on the same view object. My requirement is that as I scroll through the records in the ADF table, the ADF Form should dynamically display the details of the record in the ADF table. My understanding is that this should be automatic. However, its not working as expected. What have I missed?

    Hi,
    Apply PPR for form that displays details.

  • View object that will allow to see data from two tables in a adf table

    Hi,
    I've been have serious issues to resolve this functional requirements with ADF.
    Basically I have two tables let say employee and department.
    A need a read only adf table to show the employees values but I don't want the users to see the department id, instead I want them to see the department name and all this in the same read only adf table.
    I created a view object based on such a query below:
    select employeelastname, employeefirstname, departmentname from employee, department where employee.departmentid = department.departmentid (+)
    Note the outer join here because some employees don't have department assigned but I still want to see them in my read only table.
    The problem is that the view object is based on a sql query and is using calculated attributes instead of entities and I am getting that error "rowkey does not have any primary key attributes" each time I select a row inmy adf read only table. So the popup I defined when the user select a row does not work properly and I need a better solution. I will also have the option for the users to delete a record selected in the read only table so really need entities behind there not just a view.
    My view object also include LOVs but I realized LOVs only work for tables but not for read only tables. Too bad the fonctionality is almost there... So even if I have lovs defined that show the data like I would like it to be seen for tables it does not help for ready only tables. Any way to have read only table working with LOVs (user will not be able to change the values or select another value in the list but at list they would see the department name instead of the department id)?
    Thanks to anyone that would be able to help me on this.
    Stephane

    Let me first say that I would use Shays approach and only under special circumstances (which are beyond this thread) use the solution outlined below:
    You can use the read only VO based on your query without basing it an entities. All you have to do is to mark one or more attributes as primary key in the VO. This should solve the "rowkey does not have any primary key attributes" error.
    Now to delete a row (I'm not sure which row department or employee you mean here) you use the selected read only row, get the PK of the row and call a service method in the application module of in a VO which is based on an entity and remove the row there. You can even use the removeRowWithKey operation from the data control to archive this.
    The second problem I don't understand. If you show the user a read only table there in no need to show a lov as you can't change the value. If your problem is that you need to show the department name instead of the department id, you simply add the department name to the attributes you select with your query.

  • Bind a new view object to same adf table at run time

    Hello,
    I have an adf table, that changes based on the type of data the user selects. For example, lets say we have a page that consists of type drop down box at the top and an ADF table at the bottom, which lists data based on the type that is selected from the drop down box. For example, lets say, I have the types (Cars, Planes, and Trains).
    Let's further say we have a view object for cars, one for Planes and one for Trains. Each VO has its own specific set of attributes associated with them, which in should be reflected in the adf table that's on the screen.
    So for example, I select Train..
    My table should contain the columns, num cabs, train type, year built
    For plane, the columns might be Num engines, plane manufacturer, size(ie. 747, 727, etc), year built
    Some type of thing with Cars , cylinders, color, model, year, etc.
    Is there a way to tell my adf table to use a specific view object(ie. Plane, train, or car) at runtime?

    You can try implementing this with dynamic components, e.g. dynamic table
    >
    ADF Dynamic and ADF Read-Only Dynamic Table: Allows you to create a
    table when the attributes returned and displayed are determined dynamically
    at runtime. This component is helpful when the attributes for the
    corresponding object are not known until runtime, or you do not wish to
    hardcode the column names in the JSF page. For more information about
    working with dynamic components, see Section 26.7, "Using a Dynamic Form
    to Determine Data to Display at Runtime."
    >
    Or you use dynamic regions and swithc the region containing the table depending on the selectOneChice. Check http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24382_01/web.1112/e16182/taskflows_regions.htm and https://blogs.oracle.com/shay/entry/adf_dynamic_regions_switching_just

  • Filter view object by selected values from list of values

    Hello,
    I've the following problem with my ADF Application. I have three view objects in my application module. Two of them are connected via a view link. For example take users, who are connected to their departments. The remaining view object consists of factories. Now I want to show the user/department dependency in a tree table and the available factories in a list of values. This list of values should be used to filter the shown users.
    I've already tried to use bind variables in the users view object. But I don't know how to fill them with the value of the list of values.
    Can someboy give me a tip how to solve this problem.
    Best regards,
    Enno

    Hi Enno,
    Try this:
    - Have a AM method with one parameter(which takes user from the list of values) and inside AM method write code to set the bind parameter value and execute the query
    Sample Code
    public void filterByUser(String user){
       //Get your UserViewObject instance to userVO
       userVO.setNamedWhereClauseParam("<Bind_Variable_Name>", user);
       userVO.executeQuery();
    }- Expose the method as client interface
    - Drop the method (Data Control) as a button on to the page and pass the listofvalues value as a value to the method binding param
    Something like this: ${bindings.<User>.inputValue}
    - Finally refresh the master and detail tables based on the ListOfValues selection by setting partialTriggers property to the listofvalues component id
    Hope it is clear

  • Creating and Binding View Objects dynamically : Oracle Jdeveloper 11g

    Hello,
    We are trying to create and bind view objects dynamically to adf data visualization components.
    The view object is a result of multiple tables.
    We are using Oracle JDeveloper 11g Technical Preview. ( can't upgrade to TP2 or TP3 now).
    We have found this : http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2003/07/15/creatingUpdateableMultientityViewObjectDefinitionsDynamically.html on our search for the same.
    The sample application however, is in 10g , hence required migration.
    Also, it was a standalone application with the TestClient.java having a main() method.
    Our requirement is for Web Application; we use Adf+jsf .
    Guidance of any sort is very much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    -Anil Golla

    Hi,
    there also exist a forum for JDeveloper 11: JDeveloper and OC4J 11g Technology Preview
    What you are trying todo is not trivial because you need to not only dynamically create the VO, you would also dynamically need to create the binding meta data for it (assuming you use ADF). Not sure if the API to modify the binding is public, so posting it on the JDeveloper 11 forum bears a glimpse of hope for an answer
    In JDeveloper 10.1.3 you can't do this

  • New view object row does not get committed to DB

    Hi guys,
    on a taskflow with a new transaction I have a form to enter a new record on an entity-based view object.
    Before the page is called I call the CreateInsert Operation to create the new record on that view object.
    There are quite a few attributes that have default values which I determine in the ViewRowImpl's create method (using populateAttributeAsChanged to set the values).
    Now if none of the inputValues in the form is filled manually and I want to save the data (default values are sufficient to save the record) the taskflow return action commit does not commit the data to the db. As soon as I manually enter one value into any field the same return action commits the record correctly to the db. There is no error message and the new record is visible in the application because it is inserted into the view's iterator...
    Is there any way to mark the new row as changed/insert if only the default values are filled? Or am I doing something wrong?
    Using JDev 11.1.1.5
    Achim

    Add the following method in your RowImpl class:
    public void setNewRowState(byte b) {
         if (b != Row.STATUS_INITIALIZED ||
             getNewRowState() != Row.STATUS_NEW) {
             super.setNewRowState(b);

  • Using a polymorphic view object with binding

    Hi,
    I'm hoping there's something simple I'm missing when trying to setup up the bindings for a ADF/struts page using a polymorphic view object.
    I'm using Entity and VO polymorphism to create a Question which has different types - boolean, multi-choice, likert, etc. I have the various question types created as sub type entity and view objects and added to the app module - when added to the app module the question types are subtypes of QuestionView so they don't actually appear in the Data Controls palette. This setup is like that used in Steve Muench's examples (blog at http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2003/02/06/constructingTheDesiredEntityInAPolymorphicViewObject.html and the related undocumented one)
    My question is, how do I get to the data and have jdev create the necessary bindings for the extra attributes the subtype questions have? Since they don't appear as available data controls I can't create a binding iterator or anything for them - short of adding them as spearate view objects (which destroys the whole point of using polymorphism in this case) is there a way to do this?
    Really, the only reason I want to use the polymorphism is so I can have different types of entity validation depending on the type. Should I just simplify this to be one entity object with one VO and put all the validation into "if else's" based on a discriminator?
    Assistance appreciated...

    How else are you planning to associate a JUTableBinding to the 'common' iterator containing all four types of rows and then selectively display them? Perhaps you'd need a custom model over the JUTabelModel that'd filter the rows out.
    I'm not sure if all that trouble is worth it given that your datasets (as far as mentioned in this post) are not large. If these tables/data has to be refreshed/executed a number of times, then you may see the overhead of four queries otherwise it should be fine as database is always faster in filtering rows than doing that in memory.

  • View Object with Multiple updatable entities

    Hi all
    I'm using JDeveloper 11g, and ADF BC.
    I have a view object based on 5 entities and 3 of them are updatable. If I execute create of the view object, just the first entity is created. I've been searching some information and I have found this
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B25947_01/bcadvvo009.htm#CEGCAJCI
    In the explample it says // The view row will already have created "blank" entity instances, but instead of having blank entity instances i'm getting null.
    Any help?
    Thank you
    Joseba

    Uncheck "Reference" for every Entity that you want to be created anew when you create a new row.
    When you check "Reference" then the framework will try to find the referenced entities in the entity cache and the database, but will not create new ones during row creation.

  • ADF : Merging View Objects in JDeveloper

    There is a view object called ProjectVO, under this view object I have ProjectApplicationVO(Hierarchy In Data Controls). So using PPR Ican get project Applications related to each project.
    But there is a another viewObject ApplicationVO which has ApplicationDocumentVO (Hierarchy In Data Controls)in it.So I can get documents related to each Applications using PPR easily.
    Now I have a new requirement..... Which is ,
    If I click on a project from ProjectVO, I should get ProjectApplications related to that project which I can do using hierarchy present in Data Controls. But after this if user clicks on any application from ProjectApplicationsVO, I need to display documents related to that Project Application.
    Could anyone please let me know how to implement it?
    Existing ViewObjects:
    ProjectVO---->ProjectApplicationsVO
    DocumentVO---->ApplicationDocumentVO
    Requirement:
    Project----> ProjectApplications----->Application Documents

    Hi,

  • How to create ADF UI based on polymorphic view objects

    Hi,
    I'm using JDeveloper build JDEVADF_11.1.1.3.PS2_GENERIC_100408.2356.5660. I created a simple application based on Steve's example #10 [url http://blogs.oracle.com/smuenchadf/examples/]ViewRow and EntityObject Polymorphism.
    I added a men-only attribute "Age" to the "Men" VO and filled it with an arbitrary value in MenRowImpl.java:
    public String getAge() {
         return (String) "45";//getAttributeInternal(AGE);
    }Running the TestModule works perfectly - a row of type "Men" displays the "Age" attribute whereas a row of type "Women" doesn't.
    Afterwards, I setup an ADF ViewController Project and created a JSPX with a read-only form based on the "People" datacontrol with navigation buttons. Running that page always shows the same set of attributes independent of the row type. That's expected behaviour because the binding is defined at design time.
    So my question is: can I somehow achieve the same behaviour for polymorphic VOs as the business component tester shows?
    Kind regards,
    Markus

    Andrejus' example shows how to calculate different values for the same attribute based on overridden view objects. That's not exactly what I'm looking for. I need to display a (at least partly) different set of attributes that changes while the user scrolls through the records of the result set.
