ADF Faces - Which type of barcode scanner is recommended for ADF JSP?

Hello everybody:
1.- I'm trying to implement and adf faces app, with the functionality to get some
data from a barcode reader.
2.- I was reading about the different types of reader's interfaces: keyboard wedge,
RS232, USB, bluetooth, etc.
--- QUESTION' SECTION ---
3.- First, the best thing is that my app could be compatible with all interfaces, I
don't know if this is possible without any changes to the code.
4.- If the previous point is not possible, I know that at least my app has to be
compatible with the KB wedge and RS232, because I have read that the USB
just emulate these two interfaces, but in an USB port.
5.- I haven't read to much about this, but I need that my app do a post imediately
after read the barcode, so the best thing my mind could imagine is add an
<enter> char from the reader, I read too that this is only possible with the
RS232, is the only way to modify the output of the scanner before send it to
the app, and with the KB wedge is not possible.
6.- But, the KB wedge is easier to use because my app does not require any extra-
code to handle it, the only thing is: the cursor must be in the correct place in
the correct time.
I have read in this forum that some people has already implement this, if some of
you guys have any suggestion, please let me know.
Thnks in advance.
Alex.

Hi,
thre is no specific certification between barcode readers and ADF Faces. So if you need a barcode reader, it s up to you testing which one can interact with the browser to fill in the form fields (and this basically is all it does)

    For later releases of ADF Faces, I've filed an enhancement request to loosen up this restriction for <afh:body>.

  • Which jre & tomcat version do you recommend for this hardware setup?

    I have to install a SINGLE JSP application onto an Intel pentium3 windows XP box with 128Mb of RAM clocked at 733Mhz
    1. Is this setup sufficient for running tomcat?
    2. Which version of tomcat and which JRE do you recommend for this setup?
    3. Would I get better performance running Jetty, and if so which version?

    The issue of changing native folder hierarchy and/or naming conventions has little to do with solid state media and everything to do with the container and header data that links the audio/video streams with the metadata and thus allows the content or "media essence" to be properly decoded and played.  This is the very reason to use a tool like Prelude or Premiere's Media Browser or even Bridge or Lightroom or a third party logging tool like metafuze or shotputpro, or dedicated camera format software such as sony xdcam clipbrowser or panasonic p2 browser, redcine x, ect, as these tools all are designed to parse the captured A/V data and make properly syntaxed edits to the metadata either embedded directly into the media container or in Prelude and Premiere's case can also be written back to a sidecar or associated XMP file, which is a flavor of XML that contains all the original captured metadata plus any changes and/or additions made via these tools.
    The dangers come into play when changes to the native file naming convention or folder hierarchy are done directly to the media content via finder on mac or explorer on windows, as changing at that level can break the relationship between the metadata stream and the media essence since the changes are not being written to the metadata or content headers or being handled in a manner referred to as transmuxing..
    Prelude & Premiere's Media Browser both allow for looking into the native files non-destructively and safely modifying either the metadata linked to the native media or also allows for a transcode to be done which will then copy or recreate a new media file in whatever format selected along with a new metadata stream.
    Prelude is a nice utility and Premiere's Media Browser an amazing tool for organizing, modifying and selectively ingesting media and or making quick selects and assemblies.

  • Which version of Aperture would be recommended for a 2007 Intel iMac?

    Just wondering what version of Aperture is going to be best to use on this system, I may be able to pick up an old version 2nd-hand (dated 2007, which matches the date of the iMac) which I assume is possibly Aperture version 1.
    The iMac is a 1.83GHz Core 2 Duo with 2GB RAM, work will just be light  with compact camera digital photos and the occasional scanned document or photo, mainly to fill in the gaps where iPhoto has had some of the finer controls removed.
    Will Aperture work along-side iPhoto?  So, in iPhoto (the one that comes with Tiger, '08 I believe), will there be a menu option to 'Send to Aperture', or does Aperture make it's own library and basically replace iPhoto?

    Normally I would agree, but this iMac is running Tiger 10.4.11, I believe Aperture 3 requires Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
    The reason the iMac is on Tiger is that there was some problem with a couple of applications immediately crashing when they were run, they did not do this until just the other day and then they would always do it, I couldn't find a logical explanation for this and after a few attempts at re-installing bits and bobs I decided to back up and try a clean install of Snow Leopard, this went on OK but none of the Combo updates would install, they all failed as soon as the install started; this could have been due to a bad install from disc but no other discs showed any problems and I have used those discs before without any problems (plus there was no indication of a bad install).  I decided to take Snow Leopard off the machine and go back to it's original Mac OS install DVDs (Tiger).  It is fully updated as far as Tiger and the rest of the software on there goes, it is perfectly usable.
    This iMac is always going to be slow compared to an i5 model, I just do not want to bog it down too much with modern features and processor expectations.  Also, while it is running cleanly I am hesitent to put Snow Leopard back on it in case it runs in to the same problems again.
    Oh, and I ran repair permissions and disk verify several times (including when booted from the install discs) before resorting to re-installing Mac OS.
    The upshot is that I need Aperture that will run on Tiger, which is probably v1 but I don't know about v2 etc.  I am mainly interested to know whether or not v1 is a turkey and one to avoid.

  • Which tools or tutorials do you recommend for this?

    Hi.
    Complete novice & on CS5.
    Dangerous combination!
    I need to add some 20% extra sky on top of an image to balance the shot.
    Nothing in the sky as such but different tonal range as you go noth as it should get darker, but I am having problems blending the copied sky above and in some way blending it well.
    I had considered a grad filter, though, again, I'd need to watch a tutorial 1st!
    I did say I was a novice.
    I copied the sky up by adding 20% move canvass, clicking on the area which became a boxed in with marching ants with the Magic Wand thingy and copying the sky via the Clone Stamp tool.
    It did not look right at all.
    Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

    OK Pat.  We'll do it in easy stages.
    select the Lasso tool and draw round the oblesque.  (Hold down the Alt key while clicking on each corner in turn)
    Ctrl J will make a copy of the oblesque on a new layer.
    Hold down the Ctrl key while you click on 'make a new layer' at the bottom of the layers palette.  (this should place that layer between the background, and copy of the oblesque layers.
    Select the background layer, and the paint brush (b)
    Alt click on the sky near the bottom of the image (close to the horizon.
    swap fore ground background colour (x) and Alt click on the sky at the top of the image.
    Your foreground and background colours should respectively match the sky at its lightest and darkest tones.
    Select the Gradient tool (behind the Paint bucket) and select the empty layer between the background and copied oblisque layers.
    Click somewhere near the top of the image, and hold down the Shift key while clicking again near the horizon.  (If the gradient is the wrong way round, undo (Ctrl z) and do it again but start at the bottom this time.)
    With the gradient layer still sellected, click on Add Layer mask icon at the bottom of the layers palette.
    Paint with black in the layer mask to hide the gradient where it covers the forground.  Do this with a large soft brush so you get a nice feathered interface where your gradient intersects with the background layer.
    I hope this is OK.  A few of those steps could be improved upon, but I tried to make it as straight forward as possible.

  • JDeveloper 10g, ADF Faces & BC: setVar method on CoreTable is not working

    Hi all,
    I am in the process of creating a custom tag library for our organization. I seem to be having problems with the setVar method on the CoreTable component. I created a simple reproducible example using the scott/tiger schema. Within my tabletest.jsp, I have a af:table which was created via dragging from the datacontrol pallet. Next, I add my custom tag and set the same value attribute. When I run the page, #{row.Deptno} does not evaluate to anything! However, I know that the value is set properly due to the same number of rows appearing within my custom table tag.
    Suggestions are appreciated.

  • How to populate ADF Faces Drop Down without Errors?

    Hi,
    I have a drop down in ADF Faces which gets populated when a value is selected in another drop down. And its mandatory that we need to select both the values from the drop down. Hence i have used the attribute 'required' and set it to 'true'. The code snippet is here.
    <af:selectOneChoice styleClass="selectOneClass" unselectedLabel="Pick One" inlineStyle="width:250px" accessKey="S" label="Site" id="siteDrop" disabled="false" rendered="true" required="true"
    requiredMessageDetail="Select a Value" value="#{QualityEvalBean.sites}"
    valueChangeListener="#{QualityEvalBean.siteValueChange}" autoSubmit="true" immediate="true">
    <f:selectItems value="#{QualityEvalBean.siteslist}"/>
    <!--f:selectItem itemLabel="White Field" itemValue="LEVEL4"/-->
    </af:selectOneChoice>
    <af:selectOneChoice inlineStyle="width:250px" unselectedLabel="Pick One" accessKey="T" label="Transaction Type" id="transDrop" rendered="true"
    partialTriggers="siteDrop" immediate="true" required="true" value="#{QualityEvalBean.transactionType}">
    <f:selectItems value="#{QualityEvalBean.transactionTypeList}"/>
    </af:selectOneChoice>
    While picking the value from the first drop down the second drop down is also getting validated and its giving a red colored icon beside the second drop down. There are absolutely no issues in case of populating the values in the second drop down.
    Please help me in this regard.
    Thanks
    Rahul Uday

    you can create a method to populate the context attribute that you are using to map to your dropdown box.
    DATA: node_info TYPE REF TO if_wd_context_node_info.
    DATA: it_table TYPE wdr_context_attr_value_list.
    ** select your dropdown data into it_table and pass it to your context attribute.
    ** here, mine is call PROJ_TYPE - the values should appear in your dropdown.
      node_info->set_attribute_value_set(
         name      = 'PROJ_TYPE'
         value_set = it_table ).

  • Initializing an ADF Faces selectManyListbox Component

    I am trying to show a selectManyListbox with some values already selected for an edit page, but all i get is a selectManyListbox with no values selected?
    I build the <af:selectManyListbox> using a <af:forEach> which iterates through a List of custom TermType objects creating a <af:selectItem> with each iteration <af:selectItem>'s value property is assigned to an actual object (the toString() method of the object has been overriden to return a simple id string) and the label property is set to label="#{termType.term_type_name}" which produces a String.
    I have set <af:selectManyListbox... valuePassThru="true" ... value="#{TermBean.selectedTermTypes}"...>
    I have configured the function ---> "TermBean.selectedTermTypes" to return a List of "TermType" custom objects and didn't work... return a List of Strings (that match the value sent through to the outputted web page) and finally to return a String[] matching the value property outputted, but no luck....
    when using plain old <h:selectManyListbox> i can get it displaying with selected items when setting the "value" property to String[] of selected items (the Strings match the outputted value) but of cource this dosn't render nicely with all the extras like the adf selectManyListbox.
    i have also tried to do the job in java code hence the "binding" attrib being set to binding="#{TermBean.selectManyTermTypes}"
    Here is the page section that creates the selectManyListbox...

    </af:forEach>
    </af:selectManyListbox>
    TermBean.allTermTypes = a List of custom Term objects
    Can anybody tell me if they have managed to get a <af:selectManyListbox> with items already selected when the page loads?

    i realize valuePassThru is used for passing the value of your object or primitive through to the client... i have it off now and the problem isn't solved... the main issue is in the following:
    <af:selectManyListbox... value="#{TermBean.selectedTermTypes}">
    <af:forEach var="termType" items="#{TermBean.allTermTypes}">
    <af:selectItem value="#{termType}" label="#{termType.term_type_name}"/>
    </af:forEach>
    </af:selectManyListbox>
    if value="#{TermBean.selectedTermTypes}" is a List of "termType "objects (want these to be selected when the page loads) of the same type as var="termType" items="#{TermBean.allTermTypes}" i.e. getSelectedTermTypes() returns a List of objects of the type termType... why is the select box rendering with no selected items?

  • Aggregating table - how to solve this with ADF Faces

    Hello.
    I am trying to solve something that would typically be really simple. However, now i' using ADF faces which is new to me and i'm stuck.
    I want to show a table of rows with aggregated numbers (department in example below) and then "open up" any row by clicking on it to display the numbers that make up the aggregate (the guys in the helpdesk department in the example below).
    Something like this:
    DEPARTMENT SALARIES
    +Sales                  1.234.567
    +Warehouse         3.425.553
    -Helpdesk 655.000
    Joe 155.000
    Jill 300.001
    Burt 199.999
    +Personnel           546.225
    +Management     9.646.383
    And to make things more complicated, some of the aggregate rows in my real life example don't have any underlying rows. They just have the total. Can anyone give me hint about how to do this with an ADF Faces-control? I need to show management this can be solved quick and simple with ADF Faces, so i can convince them that it is the way we should be working in the future.
    Edited by: GoodCoffee on Jun 2, 2009 4:15 AM. Trying to indent the three rows under "Helpdesk"

    Hi,
    if you use ADF BC as the business Service then you can create a transient attribute (one that does not ave a database column ) and compute the total. Using JDeveloper 11g, you can use a Groovy expression. The below example calculates the Overall Salary paid by an department. The transient attribute is defined on the Department Entity Object
    XML View
    <Attribute
        Name="SumSalary"
        ColumnName="SUMSALARY"
        SQLType="NUMERIC"
        Type="java.lang.Long"
        ColumnType="NUMBER"
        IsQueriable="false"

  • Portlets with ADF faces does not work

    Hello
    I am trying to portlize an hello world ADF application but am unable to do so because of the situation describe below. I have tried all the options given on this post but nothing seems to resolve the issue.
    I have followed the instructions of portelizing at http://download-east.oracle.com/otndocs/tech/webcenter/files/owcs_10132_bridge_viewlet.html
    A simple portlets without AFD works fine in oc4h or webcenter or jboss, but when I include ADF in the project then none of the application server or the container works
    I am using jdeveloper 10.1.3.2.0 and the embedded webcenter oc4j for this test
    I have two projects
    1) ui where the ADF appplication is and
    2) test1 where the producer is registered and is tested
    In ui I have a simple jsp page untitled1.jsp with just one adf component (ADF Command Link)
    Here is the source of untitled1.jsp

    Hello dvohra,
    Thanks for the reply but I have done everything before I posted my message on this forum
    1. Is the Portlet Faces Bridge library in the project libraries?
    yes in both test1 project and ui project. ui project is where the ADF application is and test1 is where the producer is registered
    2. I sent the web.xml earlier in the forum. Yes it include the tags
    here is it again
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'windows-1252'?>

    3. Yes it include that tag also. Please see the web.xml I pasted above
    4. Yes I deployed it as the simple WAR file and NEVER as a WebCenter Application WAR
    I am assuming that when you refer to web.xml you refer to the one in my ui project where the ADF application is . There is another web.xml file in test1 project where I try to test the portlet. That web.xml is also pasted in my earlier blog
    Any other idea ?
    thanks a lot

  • Problem deploying ADF Faces component demo to Glassfish 3.1.2

    Hi,
    Jdev 11.1.2.3

    Glassfish 3.1.2
    Windows 7 (64-bit)
    Following the instructions on https://blogs.oracle.com/shay/entry/deploying_oracle_adf_applications_to I'm able to deploy and run a very simple ADF Faces application.
    But when I try to deploy ADF Faces component demo (rfc-dvt-demo.war) I get following error:

    - to re-create the WAR file with "platform=Glassfish" in the deployment profile but with the same result
    - to create an EAR file with "platform=Glassfish" in the deployment profile but with the same result (I have read in the ADF docs that for ADF applications deployment of WAR files only works witin EAR files)
    From my knowledge the ADF Faces Component demo should be deployable on the certified and supported version of Glassfish as it consists of ADF Essentials features only.
    Anyone already succeeded with deployment of ADF Faces demo application on Glassfish?

    Okay, so my problem was that the URL I was using was the OC4J launch url (http://host/applicationname and my welcome-file-list was
    <welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file>LoginPage.jsp</welcome-file>
    </welcome-file-list>
    I tried these two variations
    <welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file>LoginPage.faces</welcome-file>
    </welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file>faces/LoginPage.jsp</welcome-file>
    </welcome-file-list>
    and neither of these worked either. (I did restart the OC4J node between each attempt.)
    I finally created an index.html file for the application with an automatic refresh content="0;URL=faces/LoginPage.jsp" and this is working.
    Should the welcome-file-list have worked? Am I doing something wrong here?
    Thanks for the help. Mark

  • Portletizing ADF Faces - Portlet Unavailable - Is there a Working Sample?

    Hi,
    It seems I have run into a similar issue as some people before me. I have watched all samples, read all relevant forum threads and yet I cannot solve my problem.
    I have created a very simple ADF Faces applications that uses DataBinding - it displays records from a database table in an af:table component based on ADF BC. I have created the page, added the Portlet Faces Bridge library to the project, created the portlet.xml, copied and pasted and configured the Portlet.xml contents for my Portlet. Deployment is to a local yet standalone WebCenter containing OC4J instance. Note: deploying to the preconfigured OC4J also did not work.
    When I register the Portletproducer, consume the portlet in an otherwise empty JSF page and run that page, I get the Portlet Unavailable message in the page. The error log is shown below.
    I am wondering where to go from here, what can I try to analyze? And also: is there a working sample available for download of an ADF Faces based portlet that can successfully be consumed by an application?

  • Validation messages in JSF (when not using ADF faces)

    I've spent some time with JDeveloper 11 and would like to use it on an upcoming project. I have to target IE 6, so I won't be able to take advantage of ADF Faces. Instead I'd like to use the ADF Business Components with a standard JSF interface so it can be used by people still running IE 6.
    I've created a Business Component from a database table and can bind a JSF HTML Creation Form by dragging the appropriate view from the AppModule in the Data Controls pane. However, when I attempt to submit the page without all the fields being valid I get the following validation error message:
    j_id__ctru2:j_id__ctru6: Validation Error: Value is required. j_id__ctru2:j_id__ctru6: Validation Error: Value is required.
    I've tried making this more descriptive, but editing the error message in the Validation Rules section of the Business Component has no effect. What's the best way to convey a meaningful validation message to the user when not using ADF Faces?
    Also - I'm still very new to JDeveloper. Since I won't be able to rely on my users having Internet Explorer 7, would you recommend I stay with JDeveloper 10? The examples and documentation I've seen so far for JDeveloper 11 appear heavily biased towards using ADF Faces so I'm starting to wonder how much support is there for using plain old JSF.
    Thanks for your time!

    Hi,
    if you are completely new to this then I suggest to use JDeveloper 10.1.3 and ADF Faces in there. Its good to use with IE6 as well. Currently we do have more tutorials available for this release than for 11, which for this reason is a better choice for someone new to this
