Adjustments Panel Useless Now?

Ive been using cs6 at work and at home and I used to use adjustments panel a lot. However it doesnt really do anything anymore (i use layers window for creating adjustment effects anyway) now that property window is available. Should adjustments window be taken away? Or should properties? None? If so why?
Also while im here i should also say that theres a bug i get at work on cs6 but now at home. I try to create a color balance adjustment layer and it will keep creating a levels. I think this is only one a file by file basis though because sometimes it does work.
One last thing, it would be nice to be able to pan around the canvas anytime I want. Cs6 auto snaps everything to the center of the canvas even more so than cs5. I can only pan if I zoom in first.

Noel, that is interesting indeed. So your main monitor is completely clean other than the Options bar? What aspect ratio is your main monitor? Mine is 1920 x 1200, and with the options bar reducing the height, I seldom have an image file that needs the full width of the screen, so I have a number of panels on fly-outs top right corner. The tool bar is probably more useful as a visual reference than to be clicked on, because Iike most everyone here, I use shortcuts, or Shift shortcut to toggle through a tool's options. Plus I have removed the shortcut from those items I never or rarely use, so I can toggle through the others more quickly. You can free up some shortcut letters that way, like H for the Hand tool (because we always use the Space bar) so H becomes available for an Action or similar.
I don't see your Adjustments panel, but I remember you saying you use the pop-up at the bottom of the Layers panel. That still leaves me wondering why your Properties panel is so far away? You've got more screen real-estate for your Histogram than for your Layers! I use my eyes for colour, and sometimes wish I had more than the full screen height for layers, (I often have a hundred plus) but I am stoked with the new layer filters. Thanks for that Adobe.
Actions. I seldom use them, and know I should. Something like expanding a selection is an irritating number of clicks, and something I use a lot. But I am far to much an image control freak to trust to one click solutions most of the time.
I'm looking at your navigator panel, and thinking I don't need the navigator tool, but I have never thought to use it as a full image preview. Now that would be useful. At the moment when I need to see full image preview while working at high zoom ratios, I have the same image tiled twice on my main screen. I have played with the idea of installing an extra graphics card so I could have a third monitor. Just a little 17inch one that could sit on my seldom used picture printer (I use an office printer for everything else).
Yes. Thanks for the ideas. I go to a lot of conferences through the various community organisations I work for, and always think the networking and exchange of ideas, is more useful than the main program.
[EDIT]  I'd love to hear/see other people's ideas about workspaces and workflow.

• Aperture 3.3 after recent upgrade doesn't show icons in colour and I noticed the adjustments panel seems a bit different from the previous update.

I updated about a week ago an now all the icons are no longer in colour (ie, project, smart album etc) Really liked to see them in colour because it helped me sort more easily.  Also, I seem to be missed my quick adjustments panel like auto adjust.  I checked the aperture preferences but could not find anyway to correct.
Any suggestions?

Thanks Frank.  Once I posted, I was able to find all the other discussions regarding this.  I don't have time to manually change what Apple should have put into preferences.  Will manage with it the way it is and send a request to Apple for future updates.

• Add ability to change height of Adjustments Panel

The Adjustments panel is a great addition! However, I'm finding its fixed height to be hogging scarce screen space. I would like to be able to resize the panel as I can do with other panels such as Layers/Paths/Channels. I would often hide the window showing presets. In fact, perhaps simply a control, "Hide/Show Presets" would work. I don't want to close the entire panel because I want the collection of adjustment icons to be visible. I'm using them often. I do not use the presets often (yet).
On my 15" laptop, by the time I have the Adjustments and Layers panels open, there is no room left for essentials such as Histogram/Info/Navigator.

For those of you bothered by the new Adjustments Panel, I just want to let you know what I am doing and see if you might want to try it.
I pulled the Adjustments Panel out onto my image and I leave it there. I condense it to the mini-icon when I don't want to see it but the interesting thing is that most of the time the mini-icon doesn't even show.
If I select a new or existing adjustments layer from the layers panel, the Adjustments Panel just pops back up on top of the image. For me this is a good compromise between the way it used to work and the way it works now. I have the benefits (being able to change blend mode with the adjustments dialog still up, for example) but without the penalties (space in my panels area). I think it is also a good option for dual-screen users and users who like to have things like Curves right on top of the image where they don't have to be shifting their eyes.
Anyway, thought I would share. :)

• Adjustments panel is blank

Don't know what happened but, Library, Metadata tabs display correctly. The Adjustments tab, when I click on it, goes to that panel but now I only see drop down menues for "Presets" and "Adjustments". The Presets drop down menu displays presets that are grayed out. The Adjustments drop down only has "Quick Brushes" that I can then access. The "Gear" icon to the right of the Adjustments drop down menu has only grayed out selections.
Ii used to be when I went to the Adjustments tab I could then adjust white balance, shadows, etc; Now there is nothing. I don't recall changing any settings. Maybe it's a simple thing, I don't know. But, it IS frustrating. Any help very much appreciated.

Never mind! Somehow "Quick Preview" was selected and unselecting it brought the panel back. Whew!
Still, it troubles me because I'm pretty certain I never selected it in the first place.

• Is there a way to make the flyout window for the adjustments panel close automatically?

The flyout window for the tool on the adjustments panel is OK, although I'm not thrilled that it takes up space inside of the image.  Is there a way to either make it open within the panel the way it did in CS5 or close automatically when you have finished making adjustments?

Just to help with terminology in the future...
The Adjustments is not in itself normaly called a flyout window, and it operates like other panels and responds to the settings R_Kelly has mentioned.
There's a menu sometimes called the fly-out menu that you get when you click the little icon at the upper-right corner of the Adjustments panel.
I just wanted to mention the distinction because experts may at first be confused if you describe a panel itself as flyout, even though that's what they do.

• CS4 - original dialog boxes instead of adjustments panels?

Is it possible to have the original curves or levels (or whatever) dialog boxes open when double clicking adjustment layers, or are we stuck with the adjustments panels? The original dialog boxes, which are the same as those that can still be accessed via the standard ctrl-m, ctrl-l, are larger and allow finer adjustments.
I know I can enlarge the new adjustments panels a bit, but they are still 30-40% smaller than the original dialog boxes from CS3 and earlier.
I guess my question boils down to whether or not we can turn off the new adjustments panels?
Thanks,
Chuck

It's true that the new Adjustment Curves panel is smaller than the "non-layered" Curves panel but the important part - the actual curves grid - can be made identical in size. In other words, the new Adjustment panel has less clutter!

• How do I get back to my older os. Phone next to useless now since I updated to7.1

How do I get my old operating system back. Phone is next to useless now. Hotspot fails, phones people, contacts are there that I did not put in. Starts facetime automatically. Ready to give up on appleproducts

How do I get my old operating system back.
It is not your OS. You cannot go back to an older version. I would suggest you backup your device, restore as a new device to completely reinstall the OS, then restore your backup.
Millions of people are using IOS 7 without difficulty. Some things are different. Get used to change as change is a part of the mobile OS environment.

• I can't find the Adjustments panel window (exposure, saturation etc). it is hidden. How can I get it back?

When I select Adjust on toolbar, the Adjustments panel window (Exposure, saturation etc) does not appear - it always has before but is hidden somewhere. I can't see it on edge of screen. How can I get it back, please?

Thanks Terence. I would never have thought of that. I appreciate your time.

• HT3728 my airport express unit has suddenly failed No power. I have checked the fuse. Is it useless now?

I have had this airport express for a couple of years and it suddenly just failed.
The unit is not showing power is reaching it.
No light
I have checked the fuse
Is there anything i can do or is it useless now?

Try a Factory Default Reset as follows:
Pull the Express from the power jack
Wait a minute
Hold in the reset button first, and continue to hold it in for 7-8 additional seconds while you simultaneously plug the Express back in to power
Release the reset button after the hold period and see if the Express will restart in 40-45 seconds to a slow, blinking amber light
If you try this a few times and the Express will still not power up, there is an internal electrical problem with the Express and it will need to be replaced.
If you want to attempt a real longshot, carefully saw open the case of the Express along the center seam to open up the device and look for something obvious like a connector or wire that has come loose.

• My iPod is useless now... (a eulogy)

Has anyone experienced difficulty exchanging a broken iPod?
I bought one back in August 2004 and it died spontaneously less than a year later and was exchaged under the one-year warranty. No need to describe the irritation of having to go back and reload all the songs.
The "new" one croaked a couple of weeks ago and when I finally had the time to get to my local Apple store at the crack of dawn (always a line, you know) the genius used various versions of Apple-approved vulcan hardware reset grips (did you know the diagnostic mode uses a different font?) and eventually gave up. He literally saluted it and said it was off to wherever dead iPod spirits go.
And then he told me that I could get 10% of a new iPod if I gave them my useless one.
I am profoundly irritated... not only because of the spontaneous failures of a piece of technology that is promoted as if it were as reliable as a typical hard drive, but because the warranty did not reset once I got a new iPod.
Does this make sense to anyone? I mean really... why should only the remainder of my 1-year warranty, invoked by the failure of iPod A, be extended to new iPod B?
It is unfair and I am unbelievably upset.
And to think that to rejoin the cul-- errr, I mean CLUB, I have to drop $300+ dollars.
Apple must know that any given iPod repair is more expensive than a new one... I have trawled assorted forums and read many a tale of iPod death... it is more common than we are lead to believe. What's the deal? Anybody out there been in a similar predicament?
Alas, the hammer that shattered the screen in 1984 is now shattered by the screen itself.

is this what you do?
No, but this seems to be what you want Apple to do.
Warrant the replacement for one year. What about the
next replacement?
here's what i expected, and feel free to judge me:
if i buy an iPod with a one-year warranty and it fails within that year, the replacement, being new should be supported by its own one-year warranty. what is so illogical or unreasonable about that?
Irrelevant? You want Apple to do what NO OTHER
company does?
why not? they promise as much and often deliver in every other facet of their business, don't they? why not in customer service and satisfaction -- particularly in the area of personal fetish tech like the iPod.
as a good Apple Devotee i understand and to a certain extent even believe in the intent behind the hardware and software they develop. put simply, i am deeply disappointed that their marketing and their service are not in sync around a product that is meant to literally be LOVED by the owner.
feel me?
the thing is that when i can afford it i will probably end up getting another iPod because, in that way that conoisseurs appreciate any other luxury good, no other integrated A/V platform (iPodiTunesairTunes) comes close to Apple's.
Look, Apple is a company who hires people. The same
guy who used to work at Chuck E. Cheese is now
working at the Apple Store. They aren‘t magicians nor
mind readers.
correct, the emperor is ultimately naked.
but they're setting us up with "geniuses" who should at least be able to tell me why a particular piece of technology fails, not just tell me to throw it away and buy a new one. this guy and his co-genius almost cried with nostalgia and reverence when another customer brought in a 1st gen iPod for "repair," so that shows me that he's basically a geek.
the people who work the floor may be former pizza-throwers indoctrinated in Apple brand literacy but the folks at the genius bar have more actual training -- they know how to use approved Apple diagnostic tools and memorize a flowchart. if you get a good "genius" you might even learn something in the course of your tech support session. and i know you know this.
If you have a valid complaint/problem, take it up the
chain until you get satisfaction.
Apple has more to lose at this "street" level of discussion groups that they monitor than me proceeding up the stairs of their customer service hierarchy.
but believe me, i'm pursuing both paths.
when it comes down to it though, only we can hold Apple to its responsibility of actually delivering and supporting the lifestyle that it is so heavily advertising, not turning its back on us in the name of "typical business practices."

• Lack of options in iCloud control panel compared to MobileMe Control panel, so now what happens if there is a conflict of data (Cloud vs  Computer)?

Back then when we were syncing with MobileME, the control panel allows us to decide what to do when there is a conflit of data in the cloud vs the information on our computer.  We were given the option of Replacing information in Me with information on the computer or vice versa, but now we do not have any of these options.  And currently when i sync my computer with icloud, i dont know if the information (Contacts, Bookmarks) will be replaced with the current informaiton on the iCloud (transfered from MobileMe) or they will merge (if they merge then i would have double of contacts, bookmarks??) or the information in the iCloud would be replaced?
If we had more options in the control panel of iCloud, then things can be simplier.  However, with the current iCloud control panel, we have no way of knowing what happens when there is a conflict and we won't know what action the iCloud would take for the conflict of information.
So currently i still dont know if my Favourites (Bookmarks) will be replaced or not.
Does anyone know if we can wipe out the info on iCloud and replace it with the data (Contacts, bookmark, calendars etc) on our computer?

This is what I did...not ideal but seems to work for right now till iCloud actually syncs contacts into Outlook 2010 (PC/Win 7) like Mobile Me used to.  I opened the contacts in the iCloud contact address boxes in Outlook.  I selected all contacts by selecting one and then Ctrl-A (selects all), then Ctrl-C (copies all).  Then I went into the Outlook Contact folder which is blank from iCloud "stealing" all my contacts and in that empty box I hit Ctrl-V to past all contacts in.  I am now able to use my contacts when emailing in Outlook.
Of course, any changes I make to my iPhone contact list or via iCloud will only sync back to the iCloud contacts lists in Outlook (and not Outlook's main calendar) so occassionally I'm thinking I'll need to go back and do this all again either figuring out a way to only copy new contacts over, or going into Outlook Contacts and deleting all of those, going back to Outlook iCloud contacts (which are syncing but not communicating with other aspects of Outlook like mail) and then do the process all over (select all, copy, paste).
Seems silly that contacts can't work the same as they did with Mobile Me but it seems like Apple has a tendancy with everything but their actual iDevices to be screwy when things are working and make things more complicated.  I was not looking towards this day as I knew there would be some stupid issue as it seems like it always is that way with their new software rollouts.  In fact, I use Outlook 2010 through Parrells still cause their Mac version still won't sync even calendars...at least iCloud is still doing that with Outlook 2010 Windows...though still the same issue as Mobile Me that it doesn't sync with the main calendar...but I can still use it and sync well to the iPhone.

• Installed airport card into my imac G4 flat panel and now it work

I purchased an airport card from Mac-pro as Apple does not sell them anymore. I installed it into my IMAC G4 flat panel as per the instructions. Now, when I turn on the computer the power light comes on, and the screen is black and it really isn't making any noise, as though it is not starting up. It was working just fine before I installed this card!!!! can anyone help??!?!?!?!?

The following Apple article provides the details of
installing an AirPort card in the Flat Panel iMac
G4s. You may want to double-check it to see if you
might have missed something in the the installation
process.
I installed the card properly, as per the instructions you forwarded to me. I did have some trouble getting the card to completly fit into place, one side seemed to go in easier than the other, but it did go in. Is there anyway to get this machine up and running again?

• RE: Firefox search box - manage search engines - get more search engines.. IT DOESN'T WORK , I now get 1000's of useless irrelevant results, PLEASE FIX THE SITES SEARCH NOW, IT'S COMPLETELY USELESS NOW

RE: Firefox search box -> manage search engines -> get more search engines..
IT DOESN'T WORK
I just want to add youtube + some others to the list of sites in the Firefox search box, I now get 1000's of useless irrelevant results, PLEASE FIX THE SITES SEARCH NOW, IT'S COMPLETELY USELESS NOW

Hi Kvoter,
What are you hoping for, firefox to display lists of sites you have visited or bookmarked ?
* it should be able to do that
* my firefox does that
I am only a fellow ordinary user of Firefox & XP, but maybe the problem is on your machine, rather than needing a fix from firefox. If you take a little time to read this you may be able to sort out the problems yourself.
I hope you do not mind me covering a few basics:
* the Search bar { <-- clickable link -- ] is designed to produce a lot or results, whereas
*the Location Bar is a lot more specific and may be set to include or exclude History & or bookmarks
If you are getting literally 1000s of totally unrelated results you may need to consider Is my Firefox problem a result of malware
Hope to hear that you have solved the problem, or a bit more detail about what still is a problem.
John

• Art used in ID documents used to display in the links panel. Now links is empty.

Photoshop art used in ID documents used to display in the links panel in IN_CS6 on a mac. Now links is empty.
Where did the links list go???

Are you sure the art is linked and not pasted? Can you select it, right click and choose edit original? If you can and the links panel is empty you probably need to trash the prefs: Replace Your Preferences

• Tabbed panels are now bullets

I'm using CS4.
My tabs for my tabbed panels turned into bullets.  What did I do?  What should I look at to correct this?
I was cruising in my first tutorial just fine and now this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Additionally, how would I stop the double spacing for my text in my panels?  I can paste text in just fine but when I edit and add more lines it double spaces.
Thanks.

Hi Counterparts,
You are right about the swich styles on/off, that option only exists with the spry menu. However when you don't see the tabbed pannel but bullets instead it means the same: the css style is not active. That probably means that the link in between the head tags in your document that says style/css is broken. You can insert the tabbed pannels again andt that will solve it or you have to fix the link manually (it may just be the best option to insert the tabbs in another page and than copy the css link to your first page so you don't have to do the tabbs there again).
