Adobe Forms vs LiveCycle Designer

I just upgraded from Adobe Acrobat Version 10 to Adobe Acrobat Version 11. With Version 10, I had LiveCycle Designer ES2 in which to build forms. The version 11 doesn't seem to come with LiveCycle; instead it is replaced with Adobe Forms. Is it just my imagination that Adobe Forms seems very simplistic and incapable of complex form detail? I can't even seem to get 2 fields side by side; it seems like one field has to go beneath another. Can Adobe Forms be used for complex forms, or am I missing something here? Can you run LiveCycle with Adobe version 11, and if so, how would you do that, or would you have to run both Adobe versions 10 and 11 together, which I know is not supported. Thanks for any enlightenment you can provide.

Hello,
You may want to check if you are eligible for a free upgrade to the latest version of Adobe LiveCycle Designer. For more information, see http://www.adobe.com/in/products/acrobatpro/faq.html.
I hope it helps.

  • LiveCyle Forms and LiveCycle Designer - Merging data

    Hello,
    I´m using the following products:
    Adobe Professional/Reader/Livecycle Designer = 8
    LiveCycle FormServer (Forms) = 7.0
    My questions are about using livecycle forms with livecycle Forms. I think this is the right forum because the functionality I´m getting seems to be more designer related.
    The goal: merge data with template and execute some code (server side) while letting the template dynamic at client side.
    1) Merge a xml file with a xdp file
    The data is well merged. The code is executed at client and at server side.
    2) Merge a xml file with a dynamic 8 pdf file
    I get this message:
    To view the full contents of this document, you need a later version of the PDF viewer. You can upgrade
    to the latest version of Adobe Reader from www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
    For further support, go to www.adobe.com/support/products/acrreader.html
    I think this is "normal" because the version of LiveCycle Forms I´m using is 7.0. But if I want to work with pdf 8 files, what is the right version of Livecycle Forms? Do I need to whait until version 8? Where can I update (or download trial) of the latest versions: 7.1; 7.2?
    Used:
    RenderAtClient=true
    FormPreference = "PDFForm";
    3) Merge a xml file with a dynamic 7 pdf file
    Doesn´t work: data will not merge; code will not run at the server and client side code will not work, too. However, if I try to merge the data with a dynamic pdf form created with livecycle designer 7.1, the data will merge.
    In my opinion there are incompatible differences between how a liveCycle 7.1 pdf form and a Livecycle 8 pdf form (saved with version 7) is worked by LiveCycle Forms.
    Despite this, there is some bugs in Livecycle Forms when working with PDF files. It woks well with xdp but not with pdf, maybe because a xdp is more simple to work with...
    Is this solved in other versions? Where can I get them?
    Thank you

    Forms are forms. They don't change just because you upload them. While it has nothing to do with LiveCycle as such, FC should be able to open your frorm and convert it. In any case, ask such specific questions in teh relevant product forums.

    Hi,
    You have the choice between xml or pdf, in later versions of designer you can choose with a dropdown on the email button Object palette, the "Submit As";
    In earlier version you had to edit the XML Source and change the format from xml to pdf (or vice-versa);

  • Creating PDF forms in LiveCycle Designer 8.0

    I post detail at Software
    nha khoa Group
    Question on a quirk I have noticed when creating a form using LiveCycle Designer 8 and was wondering if there was a way to change this.
    I will use a Text Field for an area where I want the person who will fill out the form to add comments/questions. I widen the box out so the user will have area to type their comments in.
    In the properties of for that Text Field, on the "Object" tab I check the box to allow multiple lines and I limit the length to the visible area.
    That all works fine. The quirk is when I test the form and then click in that area to type for the text field the cursor always starts in the middle of that Text Field area. Is there a way to get the cursor to start at the top of the text box when someone fills out the form?

    Post your question in the LiveCycle Designer forum.

  • Created form in Livecycle Designer 8, send to 2nd party to complete some fields, want to lock those fields so that when sent to 3rd party to complete cannot edit

    I am a newby to this product and have created a form from a PDF.  I used Adobe Livecycle Designer to place text fields in form.  I saved, then enabled user rights.  I sent to 2nd party to open in Adobe reader.  This person needs to populate some of the fields.  Once this is done the 2nd person is to email to 3rd person who will complete the outstanding fields and return the form to the second person.
    How do I stop the 3rd person from editing the text the second person put in the form?
    I want the second person to receive the complete form back not just the responses put in the text fields?  Does this happen automatically or do you have to tell it send complete form.
    Thanks from Sandra in Australia

    How do you save the file? Do you directly send it via mail with a button? (If the question is silly I'm sorry, because I have no lincenses... so I am completly unaware of the choices you have.)
    You need to be able to save a file Reader Extension licenses I think...
    Probably you should ask for the fake E-Mailbutton, to be able to send it to different people one after the other...
    Make an invisible Decimalfield.
    The preSave/preSubmit field javascript...:
    this.rawValue = this.rawValue + 1
    if (this.rawValue > 0)
    {Decimalfield1.access="readOnly";}
    if (this.rawValue > 1)
    {Decimalfield2.access = "readOnly"}
    will lock decimalfield1 after the first save/submit and decimalfield2 after the second. Normally that should do the job.
    PS: Another way to save the document and lock ALL fields, you don't have to buy additional licenses is print it as pdf.

  • Unable to preview form in Livecycle Designer

    Adobe Acrobat: 9.0.0
    Adobe Livecycle Designer ES: 8.2.1.3144.1.471865
    I load a form and when I click on the Preview tab I receive a blank popup box
    How can I fix this? Thanks! I've already tried uninstalling/re-installing Adobe Acrobat without any luck.

    Hello,
    you should use your file manager and if you don't find your Adobe directory by clicking, please use search function. Here a screenshot (detail) of mine:
    Do it in the same way with your browser programs and don't fear to copy them into the Adobe directory. In this case I use two "windows technique". On the other hand I prefer "SpeedCommander 12" for these operations.

  • Hide zeros in a form using LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2

    How do i hide the zeros in calculated fields?
    Some of my fields show the zeros and others do not and i can not figure out why or what the difference is between the fields. They seem to look the same.
    I've found a post where it suggests using the validation tab for the field and add certain code but my validation tab is grayed out. Although, that suggestion may have been for the Acrobat product not LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2.
    Here is a link to the example.pdf of some fields showing zeros and other fields not showing zeros. I don't want any zeros showing incase someone wants to printout the form and fill it in by hand.
    http://www.appleriverstatebank.com/erexample.pdf
    Thanks!

    I finally got it working. The display pattern was set to num{$z,zzz,zz9.99} I added, null{}|zero{}| to the beginning and ended up with
    null{}|zero{}|num{$z,zzz,zz9.99} and the zeros went away.  On a side note, once i added null{}|zero{}|, the Allow Empty check box and Allow Zero check box became checked.
    Tanks for nuttin Danny!
    Just kidding, Caddyshack was on the other day...

  • Problems activating an adobe forms object / lifecycle designer

    Hi everybody,
    our developers are getting more and more problems when they try to activate an adobe forms object in SAP.
    When they click on the activate icon, SAP freezes – and after 3-4 minutes of waiting, SAP displays, that e.g. 105.570 bytes were transferred, but the document remains inactive.
    So by now they need about 5 attempts before it finally gets activated…this is very time consuming and frustrating.
    Does anybody know a solution to this problem?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance

  • Adobe Form built in designer to redirect to FTP Server

    Hello:
    I had created a Adobe form connected to a MIcrosoft Database which will provide data connections and import data into the access database. As the information in the PDF form is used to populate a application, I would like to have the form when submitted send a XML file with only the specific data they need to the FTP server. Has anyone experienced this? or know of a possible solution?
    Regards,
    Randy

    Assuming you are on webforms >= 9i you could create an aliasmatch and use web.show_document with a relativepath to show your HTML file.

  • Created an Adobe PDF form via LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2, used the New Form Assistant, prob w/ email

    I created a form to be distributed, filled in and emailed back to me for my company.
    It has been working fine, but now I need to change the email address where it will be sent when the user clicks the "Submit Form" button. How?
    All I need to do is change this email address, everything else is set.
    Please help.
    Thanks

    My experience is that re-running the Distribute Form does not allow you to change the options you get on first run.
    To correct this you need open the PDF in Acrobat Pro and go to Edit > Preferences and select the identity category.  The email address can be changed there.
    Further, when I ran Distribute Form, it made some other changes to the PDF too, because the Email submit button in my form does not work any longer in Adobe Reader.  Clicking it simply prompts to save a local copy of the PDF. The submit still works in Acrobat Pro, but this is useless for a distributed form.
    It seems odd that Distribute form make changes to a form which seemingly cannot be undone or further require the use of another product to change.

  • Add Stop Watch in Form using LiveCycle Designer

    Hi,
    How can I add a stop watch into a Form created with Adobe Live Cycle Designer 8.0?
    Basically I'd like the following:
    I am creating a read-out form for a radiologic study. So the reader should be able to push a button on the very beginning of the form which should trigger a stopwatch to start. At the very end of the form, there should be a 2nd button which the reader can push when he's finished reading and filling out the form to stop the stop watch which was running in the background. The resulting time should then be displayed and saved in a field for export to Excel later on. Is this possible using JavaScript?
    If this doesn't work, alternatively there could be a button to push in the beginning of the form which would put the actual Date/Time in a Field and at the bottom of the Form a second button which would again show the actual date/time in a field. This way I would export the two fields into Excel and then let Excel calculate the needed time to fill out the form.
    When I add a Date/Time Field, it updates, whenever someone makes a change to the form.
    Thank you for your help,
    Olivio Donati

    There is no stop watch per se.... but your technique of getting the time should work here. On the click event of the Start button you will need to record the time in a hidden field (so you can get at it later). On the Finish button you can record the time again and then get the difference between the stop and start time. FormCalc has some built in functions that will change a given time to the number of milliseconds that have elapsed from a specific epoch. You will need this to do the time calc.

  • Webservice from static adobe form

    Hi,
    My requirement is to call the web service when users opens the static adobe form. can this be possible and how?
    Thanks in advance.
    Pooja

    Have you enabled Show Console on errors and warnings in Adobe reader. You can find this property under
    Edit -> Preferences -> JavaScript
    Once you have enabled the above mentioned checkbox, it will show you error.
    We have integrated WS with Adobe forms and these forms are opened using Adobe reader.
    So that is not the case. It should work with both.
    You said, you created the Adobe form using LiveCycle designer and integrated the WS in it. I think it is the issue, you have to design the form using SFP and activate. Try this, it may work.

  • Static Adobe Form with webservice

    Hello Experts,
    We have  client requirement to develop some Static/ Local PDF  forms (Offline Interactive forms) with internally need to use Webservice data connection model.
    When we do a sample test, it was not working, then started analysis found below points.
    1. Normal Adobe Reader can not handle data connectivity  like wsdl and data base connection if we created PDF using FREE SAP ALD software.
    2.webservice and data base connections will be handled in acrobat Reader X Pro when we developed PDF using SAP ALD software .
    Can u suggest best method to get above requirements.
    Thanks

  • Having Problems Seeing your LiveCycle Designer Forms on the iPAD Adobe Reader App?

    I'm not a computer wize and very new to Adobe and creating forms with LiveCycle.  So apologize to anyone that reads this and says "duh", but hopefully it will be helpful to someone out there who is struggling like I was.
    First off - the IPad will will definitely be able to view your livecycle forms regardless of what anyone else says!  These were my steps;
    1. Create form in LiveCycle Designer.
    2. When you save, select "save as"
    3. When the dialogue box opens, and you are creating the name of what you are going to call your file, below you will see a drop down box labeled "Save As Type".  Make sure you switch the file type to "Adobe Static PDF Form (*.pdf)"
    And that's it!
    Here is another tip for a user like me:)
    I need to create a form to post to a website, where people fill it in and save it to their computers.  I found that when I just saved the form straight from LiveCycle Designer and then posted, some of the free adobe versions wouldn't let the user fill it in.  So this is what I did,
    1. Follow the first 3 steps I listed above.
    2. Next open Adobe (the full version) not the reader.  I have Adobe X.
    3. Got to "Save As".  It will give you a bunch of options.  Select "Reader Extended PDF" and then "Enable Additional Features"
    Add that should be it!
    One more tip for the average to low level user.  We had some feedback that when someone open my form in the iPad app. they were not able to fill it in.  They could, but what they didn't realize was they needed to select the icon at the top that is a little picture of a speech bubble and pencile.

    Yup. I filled in the form and made a bunch of comments, closed the app and everything I had filled in on the form was still there. I also tried emailing the filled in form to myself and opening it. The comments and filled in sections don't appear when I open it in my email viewer, but as long as I open it in the adobe app everything is still there.
    Now all I have to do is to convince my web guy not to be mad when I Tell him he has to repost all my files (JK) ;)
