Adobe Reader 11.0 No Page Handling

I am currently using Adobe Reader 11.0, but cannot figure out why I have no option for Page Handling? I am trying to turn off auto-rotate and Center, but it's just not there. Any suggestions?

It's slightly different in Reader XI; the option is now Auto portrait/landscape.

When I save a Word 2010 doc as a pdf file, it opens up in Adobe Reader as a blank page, no text, no background etc.  I am logged on as the Administrator, running Windows 7, using Microsoft Home and Business 2010.

You were right, it was a Microsoft problem.
I got it...I am now able to save a Word 2010 document as a pdf file.  Here is what I did/found:
In Word, go to File, Options, Display and make sure that "Print drawing created in word" is CHECKED.
Mine was unchecked and when I checked it everything came back and is working as it did before.  The only thing I can think of is that a Microsoft Update may have changed this selection...I know I DID NOT make any changes in the options.
One other thing I noticed in my saved documents folders was that a lot of my files showed up as PDF's and would still not open until I selected one and told it to default to open as a word document and then they all changed back and I was able to open them in word again.
I hope this helps others out there.

  • Adobe Reader X Print Default - Pages per Sheet

I have an old HP Laserjet 2200 series printer.  When printing from Adobe (no other application), the default "pages per sheet" is 2.  In the dropdown option box, 1 page per sheet is not listed!  The only solution I have found is to select "Custom" from the dropdown list and specify 1 page per sheet.  How do I correct this problem and specify Adobe's default of 1 page per sheet for all documents?

Are you referring to the print dialog in Reader or a driver setting?
For one page per sheet of output, one would normally would use the Size  option as opposed to the Multiple  option which was designed for 2 or more pages per sheet (although it will let you specify a custom setting of 1 x 1 pages per sheet.

  • Adobe Reader 8.x - view page width continues

Latest official version of Adobe Reader installed on win vista business 32Bits.
    Preferences->Page View->Layout
(these are my translations of German Adobe, might be inaccurate)
    set to "page width, continues".
However most pdf documents open with "page width, non-continues".
It is very frustrating for me.
What should I check to get my setting working ?

You can't. The page view settings can also specified in the PDF document.

  • Adobe Reader crashes on duplicate pages

Adobe Reader will either give Error 14, or just crash out and quit if it comes across a PDF file with duplicate pages, for example:
    /Kids [9 0 R 9 0 R]
By my reading of the standard, there is no explicit prohibition of this. Other PDF readers work ok. Is this an Adobe Reader bug, or have I misunderstood the standard?
(Motivation: I'm writing a PDF squeezer which coalesces groups of identical objects into one. This reduces the size of the ISO3200 PDF specification itself by about 20% -- lots of PDF producers seem to create duplicate objects. But if Adobe Reader crashes in this case, where else might it or other readers crash when there is unexpected aliasing of objects?)

    Thanks. Here are the details:
If I load the file into the latest OS X Reader 11.0.09, and then scroll down to the second page, I see a wrongly-sized second page (a little white square), and then it crashes with what looks like following an inappropriate pointer into the zero page:
    Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)
    Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000000000086
I have built a minimal 1046 byte example (click 'download pdf'):
    http://docdroid.net/huxj
The examples I have where it occurs in the wild are where blank or "this page is left intentionally blank" pages have been inserted in a document. Thus they lack content streams, or have identical content streams / resources. For example, I have a 40000 page output from a third party electricity bill generator. It shares content streams for all its blank pages, but has separate page objects. So, when my program squeezes it, it notices that all the /Page objects for those "blank" pages are identical, and coalesces them.
(side note: the same program seems to create /Contents arrays for its non-blank pages which have a common first element so as to share the background image, Adobe Reader doesn't mind several /Contents entries pointing to the same object.)

  • Adobe Reader-Printing 2 PDF Pages On One

Hi - I am using Adobe Reader version 9 in Windows Vista. I am trying to combine two pdf pages into one page via a pdf printer. The pages are small enough that two can fit on one page. I can get two onto one page but each of the pages is smaller than I want them to be. Is there any way to make the output larger? I would like each of the pages to print larger and there to be less white space. Thanks!

You can not do those tasks with Reader. Reader is a view program only, though some filling of forms and such is possible. To edit a PDF, you have to purchase Acrobat.
If I have misunderstood your question it may be that I use Acrobat and not Reader. In that case, ask your question in the Reader forum (link at the top of this forum).

  • Will Adobe Reader (iOS) be able to handle acrobat file with video?

I have created power point slides with embedded video.   I used Acrobat to make a pdf version of the power point slides.  All of the Action Buttons and Video displays perfectly in Windows.
I am interested in have this pdf file be display on an iPad (now or sometime in the future).   Does anyone know if that is in the works for Adobe Reader for iOS (iPad) ??    If so, possible time frame ???
    Thanks,
    G

On ios, we do support playing videos that are embedded as part of a portfolio or as an attachment on a regular document. The key is that the video must be in a format that the device can play. See video formats listed here under Video technologies:
    http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/Miscellaneous/Conceptual/iPhoneOSTec hOverview/MediaLayer/MediaLayer.html
I tested such a sample PDF recently. Unfortunately, our forums don't have a means of posting these files. If you'dl ike to see a sample, please email [email protected] and request the embedded video sample from me (Pat W.)
    Thanks!

  • Adobe Reader - how to add page numbers with the free version?

    Hey guys,
Imagine I've got a PDF file and I want to create a new one by selecting some pages out of it. I know this is simply possible by using the PDFcreator but I want to add page numbers. As far as I know this is not possible with the free version of Adobe unless I would add the page number on every single page by using a text box. I want to make different catalogs from the PDF so the page numbers are really necessary. Have you got any idea how to solve that issue? You know that's pretty much the only thing I need to add which means it's not worth buying the Pro version. Unfortunately I only got the PDF and I can't work on it e.g. with MS word before I export it. Do you know if there is a way to add page numbers with a free version? There might be an additional free software which allows that?
    Thanks for your support!

    Thanks for your quick replies.
I know how to add text page by page. But obviously it's hard to place the numbers on the very same position, is it?

  • Adobe Reader X cannot respond to printer properties number of copies issue

    Hi to all!
I have an issue using Adobe Reader X 10.0.1, 10.1.0, 10.1.2, when select File > Print > Page Handling: Copies = 1, click Printer Properties > Page Setup, specify eg. Copies : 5, it print 1 copy only instead of 5 on Windows platform.
Happen to a number of printers, eg. HP, Epson, Xerox, Canon, Brother printer, etc.
For some reason, Adobe Reader X cannot respond to the No. of copies specified in the printer properties.
Anyone have any solutions or workarounds to solve this issue besides specifying Adobe Reader X : File>Print>Page Handling: 5 copies?
Is there any website, forum, supporting documents, with regards to above scenario?
Please kindly advice, thank you in advance!

    Hi LoriAUC,
    Sorry for the late response!
The users had a habit of going into the printer properties to specify other printer options eg. 2-sided printing, manual feed printing, heavy paper, etc... besides the number of copies inside the printer properties as well. Therefore, they prefer to do all the various changes in the printer properties instead of changing it at the Adobe Reader dialog.
The same method were applied by all the users in Adobe Reader 9.4.7 and there were perfectly no issue at all! All the network printers (23 different brands and models in the network) responded to the printer properties "number of copies" accordingly.
It seems that Adobe Reader X dialog Page Handling: No of copies, cannot synchronise and recognise the "No of copies" specified in the printer properties. This symptom was tested and found to be the same behaviour for different printer manufacturers. Wonder if there is a bug with Adobe Reader X as this issue did not occur for Adobe Reader 8 and 9 versions. The users were using Reader 8 and 9 versions before and there were no complaints until it was eventually all upgraded to Reader X, starting from 10.0.1, 10.1.0 and now 10.1.2.
What do you think could be the cause?

As has been mentioned Adobe Reader cannot export PDF page content. Nor can it create PDF or manipulate PDF page content.
What you can do is use one of Adobe's online subscription services. Two provide for PDF  to Word export.
    There's ExportPDF and PDF Pack.
