Advice/Experience with division of tasks/roles for developers in JSF

Hello, I've been reading various Sun docs and JSF sites and am looking for some information detailing the division of developer roles/tasks during JSF dev. I've seen the enclosed description in the Sun tutorials but was hoping to see if anyone has additional information, preferably some details of how the development process went at their own company. I am a frontend developer (worked at JSP level prior to move to JSF) and our company has a team of java devs and GUI devs - trying to see how folks have divided tasks . . . any tips/challenges/stories . . . This section describes the general steps involved in developing a simple JavaServer Faces application from the perspective of different development roles. These roles are:
* Page author, who creates pages by using the JavaServer Faces tag libraries.
* Application developer, who programs custom converters, validators, listeners, and backing beans.
* Component author, who creates custom UI components and renderers.
* Application architect, who configures the application, including defining the navigation rules, configuring custom objects, and creating deployment descriptors.

I have used VirtualPC 2004 wiht NWDS and EP6. It worked fine. I expereince small problems with performance related to available memory.
SLD - not a problm
JDI - (each developer can have ddiferent user id)
SID - (i understand that you will have full landscape so it will be dev and qa and prd environmen in addition to "VirtualPCs").
There is one point about MS licenses - there is a need for  Microsoft license for Windows on the host and on the VirtualPC. It can double number of required licenses.
There are at least 3 more options available:
1. VMware - I have some experience with it (if you want we can discuss it)
2. using Virtual server environment (VMWare Server or MS  Virtual Server from MS) (we used VMWare Server for one of our development projects)
3. Virtuozzo - very interesting
With Vmware it is possible to use Linux as a host OS or even run it on "bare metal”- no licenses for host OS
With Virtuozzo there is no need for multiple OS license as it is OS vitualization and not hardware virtualization.
It really depends if you think about running virtual environments on each developer's PC or centrally on a server.

    I saw a LG range that was for sale at frys for 499.  best buy had it for 1299 or something.  I went to store asked if they had it, lady said they don't have it in stock buy they can order it.  so she sends me to appliance guy and he tries to order it when it came to payment i presented the price match.  and he said it cant do that big of a price match.  try calling best buy at this # 1888 237 8289.  
    when i called best buy price match hotline i talk to Cody (girl) she calls frys and says they don't carry it, I said it is possible that they may have ran out of stock while we were talking but they definitely carried it. I said i just called and they have it because it on sale today and its on the flyer, so she says lets call together and you can talk.  at this point after long wait we get a rep, i gave them the model # LRG3095ST and referenced the ad and she said we just sold the last one.  at this point i asked cody if she had anymore questions at this point i am expecting to here cody but nothing, she disconnected the call ( may be because she had to deal with such a big price match or may be they are trained to do this so they would avoid taking loss from big price matches like this one.) (IF THIS WAS NOT INTENTIONAL SHE HAD MY HOME # AS WELL AS CELL TO CALL ME BACK BUT NOP).
    AT THIS POINT I LOST OUT ON PICKING UP FROM FRYS, THINKING BESTBUY WILL DO A PRICEMATCH.
    I called back and got jessica, i asked if i can talk to same person so i don't have to start the story all over but she said they have no way of knowing who was the last person.  so i repeat the whole story again and explain that it was available when i was at the store and before i called you guys.  so she says ok fine i have to get approval from a supervisor.  then she comes back and says supervisor is not available at the moment, so i asked when will he be back and his name. she said they are not allowed to give that info. ( i was very surprised) she said she would have them call you back, so i said looking forward to it.  I waited the whole day 3/12/15 and next day till afternoon, never heard back from anyone.
    So again on 3/13/15 i decide to call back and get Terry.  I asked if i had to repeat the whole story again and she was in a whole different world, not understanding a (removed per forum guidelines) thing.  so i asked for supervisor again.  So here I got Tod as their supervisor,  I asked if he got any message to call me back and he did not answer.  So he starts asking for my purpose, so i explained the whole story again and he says you have to take it up to store we cannot do anything that happened at the store.  you should take it up to store and complain up to senior level and see if they can do anything.   
    AT THIS POINT I DIDN'T CARE I WOULD RATHER GO TO FRYS AND PICK UP ONE THEN RELYING ON BESTBUY TO DO A PRICE MATCH BECAUSE THEY DON'T REALLY CARE TO DO A PRICE MATCH IT JUST A WAY TO GET AND KEEP CUSTOMERS BUT WITH THIS KIND OR UNETHICAL PRACTICE SOON BEST BUY WILL GO OUT OF BUSINESS.  WASTED MY 3-4 HOURS FOR NOTHING.  HOPEFULLY I WILL TRY TO MAKE OTHERS AWARE OF THIS POOR PRACTICE SO OTHERS DON'T HAVE TO WASTE TIME LIKE I DID.  IF THEY CAN'T PRICE MATCH BIG DIFFERENCE IN PRICE THEY THEY SHOULD HAVE THAT LISTED IN THE FINE PRINT THAT THEY ONLY PRICE MATCH UP TO CERTAIN DOLLAR OR % AMOUNT.

    I am working as a Support Security Consultant. Now I have assigned to another implemenation Project.
    My client asks to create 2 roles in DEV. system the requirement is:
    1) He asks to create a role for develpoers in dev system fro devepment activities ( report creation, screen creation..etc..) and these people don't modify the HR related tables
    2) He asks to create role for HCM guys in development system to work on HCM Configuration and to work on HCM areas but these people should not involve into develpometn activites
    My questions is what are the tcodes we have to maintain in the roles to reach his requirement.
    I asked the same thing to my Client he doesn' t provide any information

    There is a new MySAP adapter with 10.13.1 and above to support ECC 6.0. Please see the following section in the 10.1.3.1 adapter release notes:

  • Advice needed with Audio Punchin-in workflows for News

    I'm testing a new FCP installation for a News Broadcaster and reached a major stumbling block with the recording of Voice Over in tight turnaround situations. Previously the broadcaster fully utilized the 'Audio Punch-in' functionality of Avid Media Composer but we are yet to find a satisfactory equivalent in FCP or Soundtrack.
    The Avid workflow currently involves playing out our programme mix on Tracks 1 and 2 to our external mixer whilst simultaneously recording the Programme / VO mix from an external mixer on Avid Mojo i/p 3 and 4 onto tracks 3 and 4. They also record the clean VO from the external mixer via Avid Mojo i/p 5 and 6 to tracks 5 and 6. At any point the journalist could make a vo mistake so they would stop the vo recording and change the punch-in in point on the timeline and proceed to record over the required portion of vo with a defined playback preroll before the vo begins to record.
    These tools ensure they can very quickly record vo and fix mistakes on the fly without the need for further editing. The broadcaster relies on this functionality for tight turnaround bulletins and without an equivalent toolset in FCP this could be reason enough not to make the switch to FCP :O(
    To summarize they need the following features for voice over:
    - simultaneous recording of 4 audio channels
    - playing back the recorded track during pre-roll and then switching over to the inputs like a kind of EE operation
    - defining the tracks for recording and overwriting the previously recorded material if you record the same part again.
    Has anyone on this forum found a way to record VO like this on FCP or Soundtrack? Any advice would be gratefully received.

    Open the Help menu in FCP, and search the online user's manual with the words "Voice Over Tool"... FCP has something similar to Avid's tool... you can keep nat sound etc, and record VO right to the timeline window. Even do multiple takes. Video can be routed externally to a monitor in a VO booth too during the record. The talent can have a headphone as well.

    So far we have not come across a need to automate KF creation. And 50 KF is not a huge number, it would take may be a couple of hours to create them. Also, since it is a one time activity, developing an automation script for the same does not sound useful. You might want to consider creating them manually so that you can ensure all settings are proper.

  • Any problems with Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X?

    I want to be able to play video from CNN.com, but it says I need Windows Media Player 9. Before I download it, I want to know if it is reliable.
    I've already got Flip4Mac, and that doesn't help. (I get a -2048 error.)
    Please share experiences with Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X so I can decide whether or not to download it.

    The default application you're looking for is "Stuffit Expander".
    http://www.stuffit.com/mac/expander/ is the page you'll be looking for...think Winzip for Mac. Once stuffit is installed you should be able to open the .sitx or .hqx file you may have downloaded...essentially a package that stuffit can open for you so you can install media player.

  • Does anyone have experience with CS2 installation on a new computer?

    We have just been informed by Adobe that Adobe has "disabled the activation server for CS2 applications "..."because of a technical issue".  I don't believe Adobe.  Further explanation indicates that I can get a version that installs without activation, but the verification is on my existing computer and the disks do not work.  Further, technical support has been discontinued.  I understand that to mean that the version on my present computer can be updated by a new version, but reading between the lines I think by eliminating the disks and substituting a version that can only reside on my present computer eliminates transporting the software from computer to computer.  Also, failure of my present computer could mean that the verification process is lost, and the software is lost.  I'm reluctant to try to sort this out myself because I really don't think I have a complete understanding of what Adobe is doing.  Maybe I'm being too cautious.  Has anyone else had experience with this Adobe problem?  For the attorneys, is this a legal taking?

    The CS2 activations servers were build on old, expiring technology. Rather than buying a bunch of new servers for a very old version of the software, we just disabled the existing hardware.
    You have an incorrect understanding of how things work. Yes, we do have a version of the software that doesn't use activation. But the verification process has nothing to do with your computer, your disks, or anything else of the sort.   • Splitting BC tasks between 2 teams - your advices/experiences please

    Hello dear Basis friends,
    I am in need of your valuable advices /  experiences.
    Our company is in the process of remodeling the IT department.
    Following this process, they want to split the operational part of BC tasks from the project/architecture part. Up to now, our group (the BC team) is the only one with deep knowledge of the Basis side from SAP. The operation responsibles have asked us to provide documentation on problems that could happen on SAP / Oracle to not rely on heavy experts to do the day-to-day tasks(SIC). They also want to suppress our accesses from all QA and PRD systems.
    No need to say that we are not very reluctant about this situation.
    What are your thoughts about this ? Do you have experience of company where such a model of managing BC tasks works ? To the contrary, if you fell it does not fit into this type of organization, what good arguments can you offer me to defend that point of view in front of managers (not tech people).

    Yes, I use OnyX because it runs them at times I have scheduled it to do so. 10.4.0 or later runs them automatically, if the computer is on and idle at 1AM, which isn't normal for many people so running them with an app can be good if you leave your machine running for days or weeks at a time. That said if you shut down your machine down every night there is no need to because the tasks will be run at boot each morning.

    I would appreciate some advice on creating a task sequence for Win8.1 with TPM enabling for Dell laptops; I have BitLocker set up manually with a Group policy, but want to have TPM enabled in the task sequence. I have read older posts on sites such as windows
    noob, but can't see how to reference the CCTK and get TPM going for win8.1 in a SCCM2012 environment. 
    Obviously I haven't created this before so any help would be appreciated; I have noticed when I try to import my CCTK configurations into SCCM as it isn't a zip file I cannot do it.

  • Examples for good programming practice with multiple DAQmx tasks

    I'm writing a program to continuously log data from 8 counters, 8 encoders, and 8 voltages. The proof of concept VI with a single counter was simple and elegant, but scaling up to all signals resulted in a wiring mess. I've been working through the Labview Core courses, and am currently on Core 3. I still haven't come across a discussion on how to work with multiple DAQmx tasks without making a mess of the block diagram. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    Also, say I have a state machine that has a configure, idle, and logging states. I need to set the initial values of the encoders during configuration, and keep up with their changes while in the idle state so I have appropriate starting values when entering the logging state. Can anyone point to an example that shows how this might be accomplished?

    I'm very familiar with AE's/Functional Globals - but I have struggled in the past with handling multiple DAQmx tasks - particularly when you're using multiple devices and using different types of measurements which require seperate tasks/handling (e.g. such as thermocouples which require extra compensation).
    I'm not even sure I know whare the requirements are for needing multiple tasks - I know you can need multiple tasks for a single device if the type of measurement is different but can you share an Analogue Input task amongst multiple devices?
    I think in hindsight (and without too much thought now) it looks like a good case for Object Oriented LabVIEW - with a base DAQmx class (initialise, configure, start, acquire, stop, close etc.) and then child classes for each type of measurement (with one task associated with each - and private data unique to that specific class). You then hold an array of objects (one for each task) and iterate through each one with dynamic despatch to get the data.
    I don't know your particular experience level of using LabVIEW (and as such, OO may not be appropriate) - but as a wider discussion of 'best practice' it seems like an appropriate method I would use going forward.

    Hi Sheela,
    Does the problem happen with activating the ODS object (definition) itself or with activating the data in the
    ODS? I think that there must be other errors apart from Task 0085. At the time of the error you should check in
    sm21 and st22 for additional error messages and dumps. If the problem is with the activation of data in the ODS
    you should also check sm37 for the job that is created for the ODS activation , you may find more detailed
    information in the job log. You should also check the activation step in the 'Details' TAB in the monitor for
    the load there may also be more detailed information here.
    In transaction rscusta2 (ODS customizing) you should try the following setting for the activation:
    No. of Par. Proc.    3          
    Min. No. Data Recs.  10000     
    Wait Time in Sec.      600
    Before changing the values you have in RSCUSTA2 please take note of the values you have already in
    case you want to change them back.
