Advice on tidying up a PKI inf on domain

Background: RootCA setup (not by me) 5 years ago on 2003 server and a subordinate RootCA on 2008R2 server a year ago (on a DC). Required to retire the 2003 server (and conveniently its CA cert is about to expire).
Between the 2 servers there are some Domain Controller, Domain Controller Authentication, Directory Email Replication, Basic EFS and some manually requested certificates.
I know I can migrate the RootCA to another server but I don't really want to carry the old RootCA name as it refers to 2003!
Can I setup another independent RootCA to run in parallel with the old one and let the old CA cert expire?
I am fine with re-requesting the manually requested certs from the new RootCA, but will the Domain Controller, Basic EFS certs and all the others I listed above automatically get a new cert from the new CA??
Once I was happy with the new RootCA functioning, I would carry out the cleanup routine on both the old RootCA and subordinate as in:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/889250
Anything else I should be wary of?

yes, you can safely set up a separate PKI hierarchy without affecting a current one.

  • Asking for advice for Jabber deployment - multi CUCM cluster\AD domains

I would like some design advice for deploying Jabber and CUPS in our company. We have 2 locations, west coast (SiteA) and east coast (SiteB). Each site have their own CUCM 7.15 clusters, Unity clusters, AD domains (trusted, but not in the same forest).
At SiteA I have setup CUPS (8.6.3.10000-20) and jabber and have it working great.
I would like to setup CUPS\Jabber for SiteB, but they need to be able to IM\call\etc to SiteA (And vice-versa).
SiteA and SiteB both have CUCM LDAP sync turned on, and LDAP directory synced with both domains (although SiteA cannot authenticate to CUCM at SiteB, and vice-versa due to the fact you can only LDAP sync authentication with one domain, CUCM user database contain users from SiteA and SiteB).
We have SIP trucks setup to pass internal calls and line status(BLF) between the trunks, and can communicate via internal extensions just fine.
The problem I’m running into is my jabber-config files uses the EDI directory – which can only look at one domain, so I cannot search the other domain. I believe  changing to UDS fixes this, but I understand it would require me to upgrade both CUCM clusters to 8.6.2 - unless I’m mistaken.
I’m aware the desktop sharing will not work until CUCM is upgraded to 8.6.1 or 8.6.2.
I’m wondering if anyone has any advice, or can confirm I’m on the right track. Thanks in advance!

The thing that's important to understand is how CUP and Jabber build the XMPP URI. The URI has a left- and right-hand side; the left is the username while the right is the XMPP domain. CUP uses the LDAP attribute specified in CUCM's LDAP System page, sAMAccountName by default, for the left-hand-side. The right-hand side is the FQDN of the CUP cluster. Jabber must use the same values as CUP when displaying search results. Take note that nowhere in this process does the entire XMPP URI originate from the directory source.
In your case you have two separate CUP clusters in two separate domains. This won't work because when a user searches for a contact in the directory using Jabber, the client will build the XMPP URI as [email protected]. Even if you got the other domain's user objects into the search results the right-hand-side of the URI would be wrong and the presence subscription would never succeed since the other cluster is in another domain. As such your first task must be to move the CUP clusters into the exact same fully-qualified DNS domain. Once this is done you can use Inter-Cluster Peering to build a larger XMPP network in which all users have the same presence domain. If you intend to do Inter-Domain Federation in the future this must be your public DNS domain, not your internal active directory domain. If you use a non-public DNS domain TLS handshake will never succeed for inter-domain federation requests.
Once you have Inter-Cluster Peering in place you can use Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (the new name for ADAM) to front-end both forests. Both CUCM clusters would need to import the full list of users representing both domains and the sAMAccountNames must be unique across both domains.
Finally, you can instruct Jabber to use UDS and query it's local CUCM cluster which will be able to return a search result from both domains. Since the CUP clusters are peered in the same domain the XMPP URI can be built properly, the presence subscription can be routed to the correct cluster, and life will be good.
By this point hopefully it's clear that EDI won't cut it since it would be limited to only returning search results from the local forest.

  • Advice on setting up a windows server 2012 domain LAB for study within Hyper V server 2012 r2 machine

HI im wanting to setup a study lab containing several windows 2012 r2 servers (mixture of core and full installs) to allow me to study towards my MCSA in server 2012 r2 and then for MCSE.
    Physical equpiment,
1 pc   which is has window 8.1 pro installed from this machine.  This machine i would like  to remote manage and connect through to my Hyper-v server and then into any of the virtual machines. (this machine is more of a gaming pc so not
able to run to many vm's from it)
2 pc bought Just for study  8 core processor 1 tb of hhd space 16 gb of ram.
This machine i would like to setup using hyper-v server 2012 r2,  which then i would create a test domain within it also with some clients allowing me to play and undstand the principles im learning.
now im getting conflictiong information regarding the Hyper-v server 2012.
If i set the hyper-v server up as a standalone in a work group.  Would i be able to manage ther VM's within the hyperv server from my external windows 8 pro machine using the remote server management tools or would i need to connect that pc
    to the domain.
Things I think i can do but not sure.   as im still learning
Could I setup a server 2012 r2 running AD dns and add the hyper-v role then wihtin that create the rest of the domain inside, allowing me from my other phyical machine log on to domain and manage all servers and machines.
Could I set up as i originally suggested, set up hyper-v 2012 server in a workgroup,  then create the domain within the hyper-v server but still connect from my external pc to manage the hyper-v and all the internal VM's within the domain.
I could run a Domain controller on a VM from my other windows 8 machine (within hyper-v or wmware), then on the 2nd machine install the hyper-v server connect it to the domain running from the other machine from what i can see, many people say this is the
better option, BEST Practice, but this is only a lab and i dont require resilience.  and i would prefer to have my  as a sever manager via the remote tools.
So what i like to know if you can point me in the right direction either by a guide for someone who has setup a similar to me.
or tell which of the above options is possible or not so i dont waste anytime.
Network, i know i can do this virtually but i already have cisco routers and layer 2 swicthes so i may make the network lab via them.
Thanks in advance  for any help you can give me

It makes it easier to set up if everything is in the same domain, but it is quite possible to manage the VMs without being part of the domain.  A very useful tool that I use for my lab all the time (my lab is in a lab domain and my laptop is in the
corporate domain with absolutely no trusts between them) is RDCMAN.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=21101  I all my machines, physical and virtual, defined within RDCMAN and can easily connect to any one of them from my laptop.  But to understand how to manage everything remotely, I create
one virtual workstation within the domain and load all the management tools on it.  I RDP to the management workstation and perform most management functions, but I can get to any machine directly if I need to.

Yes, but you could also build the AD as a VM, too.

  • Implementing EAP-TLS in the enterprise

    Hi all,
I'm currently performing a review of our global corporate wireless network with a view to implementing user and device authentication. We currently use PEAP-Ms Chapv2 and i'm considering the move to EAP-TLS, however I understand this has its pitfalls in terms of added administrative overheads, particularly around manging user certs.
Does anyone have any experiencing in rolling EAP-TLS that can provide me with some advice about what to look out for? We have a full PKI and I understand auto enrolment of user certs can be done using group policy and AD but has anyone seen any other issues I should be wary of?
We have a full Cisco autonomous unified wireless network with Cisco ACS servers for our Radius, tied into AD.
Appreciate any comments, advice or even direction to other resources where I can find some valuble info.
    cheers.
    Rob

    Rob,
Since you are already using PEAP, moving to EAP-TLS is not that bad.  Again.... you already have a PKI infrastructure and domain computers should have a certificate already.  So with GPO, you just make a change to the wireless profile to change from PEAP to EAP-TLS.  Peolpe do look at it as more management.... well it sort of is, but if you have staff that is experience in setting up the PKI, GPO, etc, it really isn't that bad.  Client device support is what you will need to look at.  If you have devices like iPads, non domain computers that need to be on the network, then maybe you will need to add EAP-TLS and keep PEAP for those other devices.

  • IMovie playback problems

    Hello again,
I would appreciate some help with a problem I have with iMovie.
I have created a movie that has taken me all weekend to make so far, it is about an hour long, it is a mixture of still photos and movie clips and is currently made without a theme. I now need to put music against it but before I do I have played it back and the photos come up on the screen in random order, sometimes they are distorted and repeat several times.  When I play back in preview mode and watch the scroll bar move through the movie, it works perfectly.  The problem only exists when I play it back as if I was watching the full movie.
I have had some previous advice to tidy up iPhoto where I rebooted the machine holding down the alt and command buttons and selecting all options to tidy up the photos but this only half helped.  The tidy up was helpful in enabling the playback to be better but now the full move screen play back.
I have made many movies before without problem so it I don't think it is user error.  I have checked to see if I have deleted any of my movies or photos that are used as I have found this to be a problem in the past, but this is not the case this time.
    All suggetions welcome.

    Hi
If You tidyied up iPhoto - then I would
    • Trash iMovie pref files
    • Repair Permissions (Disk Util tool)
    • Repair Hard Disk (Disk Util tool - BUT YOU MUST START YOURS Mac from DVD or External Hard Disk - It can not make brain surgery on it self)
Last resort for me would then be to
    • Make Copy of Project (severals)
    • DO NOT touch Original Project
    • Split one Copy - trash one half - see if other RUN OK
    • This splitting and deleting - is a very rude but functioning way to scale down where the problem originates if it is embedded in the movie project e.g. a bad Clip, Photo or Audio file.
    BTW I do:
Video - Only StreamingDV or AIC - Video Codec
Photo - relative small (10Mb) .jpg - NO .bmp or other formats - all converted to .jmp first
AUDIO - ONLY .aiff 16-bit 44.1kHz or 48kHz - NO .mp3 or directly from iTunes or other ailient formats - all converted to .aiff first
By doing this I've scaresly no problem with my videos.

  • How to deal with SP Apps when the SP farm is in a different AD domain?

I have a situation here where we have two AD domains, production and test.  My laptop (that I do most of my work on) is on our production (MYCOMPANY) domain, and my SP2013 farm is in the test (TESTMC) domain. The DNS is set up as mycompany.com and test.mycompany.com.
I have a personal account in the production domain, a personal account in the test domain, and I have set up a generic SP Admin account in the test domain. (My personal account is also a farm admin and site collection admin.)
I think I have set up the app infrastructure correctly (app domain in DNS is "spapp.test.mycompany.com", etc.), and apps seem to work, but I was running into the issue of the app config page and app parts prompting for credentials when they load
on a page. So I followed the advice I found online and added the app domain to my local Intranet sites in IE internet settings.
Now what's happening is that the app parts and app configuration pages say
"Sorry, this site hasn't been shared with you."
I'm logging in to my laptop with my production domain credentials, but when I go to the SP site I'm logging in with my test domain credentials. If I take the app domain out of my Intranet sites, and force the second credential check, and use the test domain
credentials, everything seems to work. So I'm guessing that what's happening is that with the app domain included in the Intranet sites, my production domain credentials are getting passed on to the app.
Am I right in my assumption? What's a good way to deal with this? I've had previous experiences that led me to believe SP would use the credentials you logged in to the site with (in this case, my test domain account), which are associated with the browser
session, and not default to the credentials you are logged in to the machine with.
In addition, it seems like anything opening from the app domain gets stripped of all the SharePoint bits. Here's a screen shot of an app configuration page in a working environment:
And here's a screen shot of the same app configuration page in my environment:
Does anyone have any idea what's going on here?  Where should I be looking to fix this?
Dylan Cristy | MCTS SharePoint 2010 Application Development
    Blog: morefunthanapokeintheeye.blogspot.com

Note that it is not recommended to place the SharePoint Apps DNS zone in the Intranet Zone of IE, as SharePoint Apps (from 3rd parties, at least) should be potentially dangerous as they may contain XSS vulnerabilities.

  • Cisco ISE 1.2 and 2 Active Directory Domains

    Hi Support,
does anyone know whether I can perform Certificate Authentication for two different Active Directory domains using the same ISE host / deployment?
We have two forests with a trust link between them.
We have a seperate PKI in each domain.
I am thinking that the ISE can only be joined to a single domain, but because we have a trust between the two forests, the ISE can have two certificate profiles in an identity source sequence which can then use in a single authorisation policy.
I take it that I would need local certs from each CA in the local certificate store of the ISE?
We are performing a company merger and we cannot migrate users to the primary AD domain due to several reasons so we would like to use the same ISE deployment to authenticate Wireless users on both AD domains.
    Thanks
    Mario

    Mario,
This is possible.  Here are the guidelines for the Multi-Forest support in ISE 1.2:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/security/ise/1-2/user_guide/ise_user_guide/ise_man_id_stores.html#pgfId-1350874
You would have to set a new Certificate Authentication Profile for each domain and use the Authentication Policies to determine which of the Certificate Authentication Profiles to use.

    Hi Frank,
Thank you for your reply. The white paper is published byOracle Fusion Developer Relations group and is available here(https://blogs.oracle.com/fadevrel/entry/announcement_how_to_series_explaining).
Yes it is related to Fusion Customization. Is there any way to move this to Fusion Customization forum?
    Thanks,

  • How to block domains not for all mailboxes in our organization?

Hello everybody! Need some advice - I have a script to block some domains ("black domains list") - I am using this command: Set-SenderFilterConfig -BlockedDomains:$list But now I need to block these domains not for all mailboxes in our organization,
for example: somebody is sending a message from "black" domain company.com and there is a mailbox [email protected] - so only this user should receive message from "black" domain. Any others should receive nothing even their addresses
are in copy. Is it possible? Thanks.

    Hi,
When we use Set-SenderFilterConfig –BlockedDomains to block domain, exchange will block any messages from that domain without any exception.
The only thing I can think of is transport rule, so please try to create this transport rule to have a test:
If this transport rule doesn't work, then there is no way to block domain not for all mailboxes in organization based on my knowledge.
    Best Regards.

  • ISE Identity Certificate.

    Hi there,
Does anyone have any experience with Publicly signed ID certificates for ISE.
We are going to be deploying Guest Services via CWA. When a user connects to the portal they get a certificate error as the current ID certificates are only signed by our internal CA and nobody but internal users will have that CA installed.
I went to an external provider (Geotrust) and wanted to get a Public CA signed Certificate with the CN = guestportal.company.com and SAN fields of internalserver.company.local.lcl, Private IP of BOX and External IP of Box. I get this Error from Geotrust.
Certificates that expire      after November 1st, 2015 may not contain an internal server IP address or      server name. Please modify SAN entry to continue.
Researching further into this it seems that all Certificates being issued by Public CA’s need to abide by the following new rules.
    “What is an Internal Name?
An internal name is a domain or IP address that is part of a private network. Common examples of internal names are:
Any server name with a non-public domain name suffix. For example, www.contoso.local or server1.contoso.internal.
NetBIOS names or short hostnames, anything without a public domain. For example, Web1, ExchCAS1, or Frodo.
Any IPv4 address in the RFC 1918 range.
Any IPv6 address in the RFC 4193 range.”
Has anyone got around this? Or will the guests just have to put up with the Certificate error? Also I'll have to change the PSN's hostname to the CN which has implications for it joining our internal active directory so not keen on that.
I've ready that LDAP might be my only solution which I am not really keen on see below.
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-37562

I have run into he same situation with public CAs. I need two separate certs, a public https one and an internal EAP one, each on a different domain. Is this possible? if so how do you generate the certs for two different domains? The public one is straight ford as it will have the correct domain on configure on the ISE node. However for the EAP cert how will an internal PKI react to a CSR generated by a box on a different domain?
Recently I had a conversation with the TAC engineer. And the outcome seemed positive. The outcome from that conversation was the following:
    - Https wild card certificate from Public issuer with example.org.au
    - CLI change on ISE nodes to change their domain to org.au
    - The company DNS must be able to resolve the ISE FQDN node names with example.org.au. For example - ISE01.example.org.au.
    - The EAP certificate can be issued from the legacy Corporate PKI with a domain of example.local
However in a response to the same question the account team have said:
In response to checking if ISE can deployed with multiple domain certificates such as for http management on example.org and EAP on example.internal.org
The reason why this is not possible is because for installing a certificate in ISE you need to pass few conditions -
"Cisco ISE checks for a matching subject name as follows:
1.Cisco ISE looks at the subject alternative name (SAN) extension of the certificate. If the SAN contains one or more DNS names, then one of the DNS names must match the FQDN of the Cisco ISE node. If a wildcard certificate is used, then the wildcard domain name must match the domain in the Cisco ISE node’s FQDN.
2.If there are no DNS names in the SAN, or if the SAN is missing entirely, then the Common Name (CN) in the Subject field of the certificate or the wildcard domain in the Subject field of the certificate must match the FQDN of the node.
3.If no match is found, the certificate is rejected."

  • Implementing Security for BPEL Process

    Hi,
We have a requirement to add security layer to BPEL processes (BPEL 10.1.3.4) deployed on WL 9.2. Client has asked us to implement PKI for WL domain.
Please guide me regarding the same.
    Regards,
    Prabodh Mitra
P.S. we are not using OWSM due to some business reasons

    Hi,
Can you please provide any docs related to implementing pki/ssl in a BPEL-WLS env ? I have tried, but in vain.
These are the questions I have,
    1. BPEL is installed on a separate domain in WLS. How will we enable SSL here? Is it ok if we enable at admin server level ?
    2. Do we need to do some configuration on BPEL side as we do in OAS setup?
    Thanks in advance.

What happens when you ignore these and continue with your planned customization?
Some of these are know errors which are already fixed for future releases and are harmless.
Some of these are occurs because the customization workspace is created using the very minimal set of files required to run and test the customizations locally. So, various dependencies are not pulled unless required for customization purposes. This is really helpful to test the customizations with minimal efforts.
So, please try to proceed with your intended customizations and do post if you face further issues. We will investigate this log in more detail to make sure there are no earlier unknown issues and take appropriate actions.
    Hope this helps
