AFP inactive/sleeping clients not disconnecting

I have set clients to automatically disconnect after a certain amount of inactivity, or if they sleep, in Tiger server AFP services settings pane. Howerver, it seems nothing is ever being disconnected, as I've regularly got a list of clients that have been inactive or sleeping for hours still holding onto their connections. Every morning I have to manually kill all the inactive connections to allow users to log on again (as it seems the old connection is somehow preventing them from logging on again)...
help?
thanks
David Hoare

Do you have the server set to allow idle clients to auto-reconnect?

  • [solved] sshd not disconnecting clients on close

    When I shut down my sshd, either restarting the machine or manually, currently connected clients are not disconnected. Their ssh sessions just hang, and the terminal has to be closed. How can I make "/etc/rc.d/sshd stop" actually boot clients off?

    Their ssh sessions just hang, and the terminal has to be closed.
    You don't have to close the terminal. The OpenSSH client (i.e. ssh) supports 'escape sequences', and you can force the disconnect between the client and the server by pressing '~' and then '.'. That said, you must have entered a newline just before, so the sequence if often '<enter>', '~', '.'.
    If you want more info about this, look at the 'ESCAPE CHARACTERS' sections of the ssh man page.

  • What happens if JCO.Client object not disconnected?

    Hi All,
    Can anyone tell me what happens if a JCO.Client( which is connected to SAP) is not disconnected? Will it be connected? or JCO disconnects it after sometime? or SAP itself disconnects it?
      JCO.Client client = JCO.createClient(....);
      client.connect();
    If I run this simple code and leave it, what will happen to the connection opened?
    Thanks in advance.

    We are using JCO with SAP J2EE and have found something strange.  We are setting the idle_timeout property and the SAP user is logging off, however we accumulate DISCONNECTED sessions in the SAP gateway.  If the gateway limit is reached, additional connections fail.  We used a modified version of the sample program to isolate the problem.
    Test Program:
    import java.io.IOException;
    import com.sap.mw.jco.*;
    public class Test {
        public static void main(String args[]) {
            byte instring[] = new byte[20];
            JCO.Client jcoClient = JCO.createClient("200", "user", "password", "EN",
                    "bhha.na.pg.com", "00");
            jcoClient.setProperty("idle_timeout","60");
            jcoClient.connect();
            System.out.print("Read:");
            System.out.flush();
            try {
                System.in.read(instring);
            } catch (IOException e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
    During 60 second period, transaction smgw shows the following information as expected.  There is also a logged in user in SM04.
       44  7BWGF21  javaw    t0331        CONNECTED    <unknown 99703871 INT  15:13:10 0    0
    After 60 seconds, the user disappears from SM04, however the smgw connection goes to a disconnect state as follows.
       44  7BWGF21  javaw    t0331        DISCONNECT   <unknown 99703871 INT  15:14:44 0    0
    This session stays in this state until the enter key is pressed and the java app terminates.  This is problem with a J2EE server app were the java process does not terminate.
    Thanks,
    Harry

  • Mavericks Server Not Disconnecting Users

    I'm looking to brainstorm with others out there who have deployed Mavericks servers who are experienceing issues with file sharing services. I have about 7-8 servers that I have done recently with Mavericks Server that all experince varying levels of issues with users connecting to AFP not disconnecting properly.
    One extreme case, is where a server has about 25 users, and at the end of the day, Server shows upwards of 40 connections. Many of the users will have two and three connections even though they are on one machine with one IP.
    Eventually what happens is that users begin to have permissions issues, read-only notifications when trying to open a file, and the beachball when trying to save a file they were editing off the server. I have minimized the problem by having all the suers shut down their machines at night, and for some, set thier machines to never sleep during the day. I also have the server restarting every night to break the connections.
    I have also gone in and turned on the disconnect idle users, changed the disconnect idle users time, and changed the sleep and idle times with no success in fixing the problem. If I don't restart the server at night, users will show connected for as long as it has been since thier initial connection. I also went into sharing in the system prefs and checked the connected users there. It is the same that shows in the server.
    There are some other similar discussions out there, but I need to focus this bug on AFP.

    I have played around with the idle discconect and sleep times. Here is how the AFP is set up:

  • Idle/session timeout vs sleeping client

    Hello,
    We will soon upgrade to WLC from 7.4.110 to 7.6.120 and find out a new feature : spleeping client.
    I was wondering the purpose of the sleeping client vs idle timeout/session timeout.
    In our case we have an idle client set to 14400 seconds (4H) and session timeout set to 28880 (8H) for web-auth SSID. Thus, even if a laptop is sleeping for 3H it will still be authenticated as the idle timeout has not been reached.
    Based on those facts, what will be the purpose of the sleeping client feature as it must be set higher than the session timeout ?
    Thanks for your support :-).

    make sure that the session timeout is greater than the client idle timeout, otherwise the sleeping client entry would not be created.
    After entering the appropriate login credentials for web-auth, the client get authenticated and moves to RUN state.
    Now if the client configured is idle for 300 seconds (default idle timeout value) or disconnects from the WLAN it is connected to, then the client will move to sleeping clients.
    Once the client is moved to the Sleeping Clients, the timeout session starts and the remaining time before the client entry is deleted/cleared is displayed.
    If the client wakes up or joins back to the same WLAN, it doesn't require re-authentication.
    the number of sleeping clients that are remembered has increased to 25000 from the previous 9000. A larger number of sleeping clients are remembered even after waking up, on the wireless network with high-scale Cisco WLCs. This eliminates the need for user intervention to re-enter credentials for a greater number of clients.

  • Inactive component cost not rolled up to top level item

    Hi
    Our scenario is as follows: we have a top level item with a BOM. And some components of the BOM  are having material status u2018inactiveu2019. Inactive means materials will not procured and sold, however we could have inventory which can be consumed in production of other materials. In other words inactive items are like old items. These inactive items already have costing value. And we donu2019t want to recost inactive items.
    Having described above scenario, the requirement here is when we run costing for top level item, system should take costing value of inactive items  and roll up into top level item costing which is NOT happening now. Client donu2019t want to recost inactive items. The reason for not recosting inactive items is the recosting could change cost of inactive items significantly.  We are using 4.7 version and standard costing.
    Would appreciate any ideas or suggestions in this regard.
    thanx
    Sunil

    Thanks Young for the reply.
    We already set 'do not cost' indicator for inactive components. And these inactive components do have standard costs valid up 10 12/31/2999.  It seems bom explosion is excluding these materials. it is ok to exclude. However the existing standard cost of these inactive components did not roll up in to top level. when I checked the costing status log, it says material ABCDF123 in plant 3344 has material status 40: Inactive.
    I checked BOM as well and inactive component is flagged as 'relevant for costing'.
    We are using following valuation varaiant
        Strategy Sequence ->  1. Planned Price 1    2.Standard Cost
        Transfer Control - Complete Transfer
    thnx

  • ORA-16191: Primary log shipping client not logged on standby.

    Hi,
    Please help me in the following scenario. I have two nodes ASM1 & ASM2 with RHEL4 U5 OS. On node ASM1 there is database ORCL using ASM diskgroups DATA & RECOVER and archive location is on '+RECOVER/orcl/'. On ASM2 node, I have to configure STDBYORCL (standby) database using ASM. I have taken the copy of database ORCL via RMAN, as per maximum availability architecture.
    Then I have ftp'd all to ASM2 and put them on FS /u01/oradata. Have made all necessary changes in primary and standby database pfile and then perform the duplicate database for standby using RMAN in order to put the db files in desired diskgroups. I have mounted the standby database but unfortunately, log transport service is not working and archives are not getting shipped to standby host.
    Here are all configuration details.

  • 5508 WLC on 7.4MR2- Clients getting Disconnected using CWA

    We are experiencing an issue with clients getting disconnected/time out from a wlan doing CWA.  The clients are iphones.  A debug client shows the error(Unknown Policy Timeout). This particular WLAN is used for provisioning with ISE. ISE shows the user authenticated the entuire time.  At first, we though it was the user idle timeout setting on the WLAN advanced tab, but after increasing that clients still get disconnected.  The disconnect occurs around 2 minutes.  Sometimes longer around 10 minutes.  Cisco seems to think we are hitting a bug introduced in 7.3.112 and will not be fixed until 8.0.  Below are the bug details and the debug output.  Has anyone seen this?  Any possible work-arounds? Thanks.

  • IPod nano 6th generation: "Do not disconnect" on white screen w/flashing icon; previously "Connected-Eject before Disconnecting" on dark screen w/USB icon; no content on iPod

    Trouble began with "Reconnect to iTunes to Restore" message after I inadvertantly held down the Wake/Sleep button long enough to turn the iPod off before pausing the podcast in progress.
    My subseqent actions to try to remedy:
    -Restored the iPod
         -while Restoring, the rotating circular arrows and "Synchronizing-Do Not Disconnect" screen appeared followed by "Connected-Eject Before Disconnecting"
         -when I ejected the iPod and disconnected it, the normal icons showed but there was no content
    -Reinstalled the latest iTunes 11.0.3 which I had downloaded previously a few days before my problems began
    -Restored iPod again:  still said "Connected-Eject before Disconnecting"
    -Manually put the iPod into Disk Mode (said to be helpful in troubleshooting):  "Do Not Disconnect" on white screen with flashing icon (circle with diagonal line)
    -Ejected and disconnected the iPod.
    -Reconnected the iPod:  same message

    You need to either the let the iPod finishing syncing with iTunes, or figure out what application is still using it in the back ground that prevents you from being able to properly eject the device.  Just unplugging it from the computer is almost always going to cause issues when it's still in use by iTunes or another application.
    So let's connect the device to iTunes one more time and let it finish restoring.  Then try syncing a bit of content over to it and wait for it to finish the sync process.  Then try to properly eject it from iTunes this time.

    I plugged my ipod into my computer to load up new tunes and it froaze on the time I dad connected it with the message 'do not disconnect' on the screen. Despite disconnecting and reconnecting it and ensuring it was charged up it will not operate. The 'lock' symbol is showing at the top of the screen even when I have moved the lock switch. I would first try resetting the iPod:
    Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home

    Next would be to restore the iPod from backup

  • RDS 2012 - Slow Perforamance, random disconnects - The RDP protocol component X.224 detected an error (0) in the protocol stream and the client was disconnected.

    We have an RDS environment configured on server 2012 with approx. 20 users connecting for remote app utilization across 4 different locations that are connected via VPN. Server 2012 has great resources from the virtual host so system resource allocation
    shouldn't be an issue. I'm thinking these errors are correlating with the performance problems. Any recommendations on how to effectively end these errors or to boost performance?

    Hi Shane,
    Do you have any progress at the moment?
    Regarding the TLS error code 49, it indicates a valid certificate was received, but when access control was applied, the sender did not proceed with negotiation.
