After downloading a game, my macbook air desktop screen changed. I don't know how to make it back to the way it was. Help?

My problem is that my apps are smaller than before, and on the two sides (not shown) there are empty black spaces, like the actual screen compressed to the center. The quality of the menu isn't clear like before.

Open the Displays preference pane and set the Resolution to Best for display.
