After effects - slow motion

Hello!
I'm using AE cs3 and I'd like to edit my videos to look like this: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=t08IjRqK-UM
So I'm asking for help, if someone could tell me which options to click in AE to get this kind of slow motion effect. (I'm not really interested in other things just this slowmo at the moment)
Thanks in advance and bye...

The success of that effect is highly dependent on your footage. Use the TimeWarp effect:

  • I am new to After Effects and Motion 5 and I have a question

    Hello there,
I am currently working on a personal side project for a family member. She would like me to make a video with recorded audio and pictures from the 1920’s for my grandmother. I would like to give the parallax and 2.5D effect a try but as I never used After Effects or Motion before I am a little overwhelmed.
I have about 80 images to animate. Right now I am in the ‘Photoshop phase’. I am going through each image and separating the foreground, mid-ground, and background, into separate layers and saving the .psd files to eventually bring into Motion 5 (or After Effects) and animate.
    After seeing this video:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVrYyX3bHI8
I really wanted to animate the images I had in a similar fashion. I really loved how they seemed to move and know that I can accomplish this appearance with the pin tool in After Effects. After seeing this video however, I continued looking into the 2.5d effect and found this movie for Motion 5:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmxlm2nkVLA
I bought Motion 5 because I thought the interface seemed more user friendly to newcomers (like myself), the effects were similar, and because I couldn’t afford to pay for After Effects every month.
But now I am kicking myself. Motion 5 is lovely and I do like the camera effects but I don’t think I can accomplish the ‘puppet’ effect with it like I can in After Effects. Does anyone know if it is possible? Is there a plugin for Motion 5? Can I send my .psd files into Motion 5, set up the timeline and cameras, save it, and then move it into After Effects and then use the pin tool to manipulate the images and layers?
I have read that some say it is hard to move Motion files into After Effects? If this is the case, could I save the Motion file, open it in Adobe Premiere, and THEN open it in After Effects and play around with it?
Any help is appreciated. Thank you so much in advanced.

2.5D is fairly easy to do in Motion... that's the good news. The bad news is: if you don't know what you need to do to accomplish it, it's practically impossible to do easily or well.
The first problem to overcome is perspective, and the other problem is parallax.
These two tutorials (by Mark Spencer) will give you all the information you need dealing with moving Photoshop Layers in Z-space. Even though the point of the tutorials is a "fly through", the same information applies to creating 2.5D. Just animate the camera laterally (sweep) instead of dolly.

  • How do you add video effects-slow motion

Not real happy with 08 over previous versions but I would like to gain back some of the functionality that I regularly used. How do I add special effects, such as slow motion to a video clip or a portion of a video clip.

How do you do it IMovie HD in Ilife 08?
Both applications can be run on the same computer. Use whichever application best serves your needs. If you need a lot of plug-in effects, use HD. If few or nor effects other than standard transitions and titles are required and speed is paramount, then use iMovie '08. If you like being innovative and want to try your hand at creating your own effects, use iMovie '08 and learn how perform pre- and post-edits to create your own fast motion, slow motion, stop motion, pseudo time lapse, still framed, backgrounded, blended, layered, picture-in-picture, etc. that may "tickle your fancy."

  • After Effects CS3 Motion Stabilize Irritation

    Hello!
I am pretty new to After Effects, and I've been trying to learn learn learn. Though, I am having a strange and annoying problem.
Imagine you set the table for dinner. and everything is perfect. Then when you go to put dinner on it. everything is messed up again!
Aside from the analogy, lemme explain my problem... I have some pretty shakey footage I am working with. I am trying to stabilize it. It is only standard def, but I have a point in the video that I can easily track.
    I'll set it up by:
    Clicking the layer
    Opening the Tracker Controls box
    Clicking Stabilize Motion
    Setting up the tracker point
Then I'll click the analyze button. It tracks it fine. I then hit apply. It worked! I made it perfect for me!
Then the problem arises. For what reason, I am not sure. But anytime I RAM preview it again, or render it, it gets worse!
The picture gets jumpier each time. I'm absolutley baffled. I went closer to try and figure it out. I checked frame by frame and it seems that the motion tracker gets knocked a little early or late or something. For example, in a video 3 frames in length. The first 2 targets are in the center, and then it moves right, and the tracker follows this fine. Then I watch it again, and the first frame is correct, then the 2nd frame moves where the 3rd should be, and the 3rd frame is correct. If that made any sense.
I am hoping that someone out there has any advice for me. I'm starting to get frustrated.
    Thanks,
    ~Bill L.

    Thanks for the help.
I makes sense that it is the frames.
So I'm checking the frame rates now. Under the video file interpretation,
Frame Rate: "Use frame rate from file: (29.970 fps)"
    Fields and Pulldown: Spereate Fields=Off
    Square pixels.
Under the Comp(which was made from just dragging my file to the timeline)
Frame Rate: 29.97 Frames per second
    Advanced:
~Preserve frame rate when nested or in render queue is UNCHECKED
~Preserve resolution when nested is UNCHECKED
Not sure if there is something I didn't list here that would need to be. I still can't get the video to work and these seem like the right settings.
Is there something I'm not seeing? Or is this something I just don't know to check ?
    Thanks again,
    ~Bill L.
    ******EDIT******
P.S. I also tried stabilizing the footage when the video's frame rate was set to "Conform to frame rate 29.97" Same issue, everytime I RAM preview/render the footage gets jumpier and jumpier.

  • From After Effects to Motion plug-in or export

How do I contact Motion Apple engineers, I want to pay to have a plug-in developed that will save, or export After Effects projects as Motion projects.
    Trace Burroughs
    LMENSTUDIO(at)aol.com

There are several plug-ins and scripts that export After Effects data in forms that can be used by other applications. Pretty much every aspect of a project is exposed through the scripting interface (with a few minor exceptions).
If you want to create a script or plug-in to do so, you can get the information from the documents on the After Effects Developer Center:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/aftereffects.html
There are links to forums for scripting and plug-in development on that page.
If you don't want to write your own, check out the forum AE Enhancers:

A lot of great script writers and plug-in developers hang out there.

  • Importing After Effects into Motion

Hi all, Does anyone know of a way, or indeed if it is even possible to import an After Effects project into Motion ?? I have the AE project, I have Motion, I do not have After Effects (alas).

    hi
i see that it's possible to import motion files into after effects:

  • Poor clip quality after applying slow motion or stabilization

I am making a movie.  Every clip that I change to slow motion, or stabilize (or add both to), becomes blurry.  I finalized it & put it on dvd to see if it still blurry on the tv, and it is.  Anyone know how to fix these clips so I can get the original clip quality with the slow motion/stablilization?
    Thank you in advance

I am using PPro CC 7.2.1 on Mac OS X 10.8.5.  I'm working in software only renderer.  Just by applying a Three-Way Color Corrector or a Video Limiter (just applied, without any modifications... didn't test other filters), the photo quality is degraded.  The result is the same after exporting or rendering the sequence.  Tested in DVCPRO-HD and ProRes interlaced sequences, same result.
Here is a photo without any filter applied to it (on the left) and with a video limiter (right) :
On another editing station with CUDA enabled, the problem isn't there.  But not all our station are CUDA enabled, so I wish I could fix the problem.

  • After Effects Slows PPro Significantly

    I'm on a 2011 macbook pro 17" 5 months old, 2.2 quad-core, 8gb ram with a 6tb RAID via eSata
    Production Premium CS 5.5
Any time a clip is edited in After Effects, and replaced in PPro, it slows all processes of PPro significantly. Render times take 5x's longer, edits are not immediate, cannot see changes in other clips in immediately, etc...
Is there something that is hindering PPro to operate normally even when I'm past the editing and rendering of the replaced clip?
Thank you for any and all help.
    -Charlie-

Don't render to AVCHD footage. Check the Sequence settings in Premiere and make sure you compositions are the same size and frame rate. Then render to something like MotionJpg or even Animation Codec Quicktimes. These codecs require very little processing to re-render in Premiere Pro.
You never want to render to MPEG codecs directly from AE.
AVCHD footage takes a bunch of processor power to decode then re-encode so it's going to take a while to render to the PPro timeline. Sorry, I know of no way around this problem when working with highly compressed footage.
Personally, I always transcode (re-encode) AVCHD footage before I even bring it into Premiere. I do the same with all highly compressed video like video from DSLR's. I'm on a Mac so I mostly use ProRez 422 because it's 10 bit, nearly lossless, takes very little CPU power to decode, and plays back in real time very well. The only time I keep a PPro project in a native compressed format is when I'm doing quick cuts only edits.
    Hope this helps.

  • After effects slow ram preview hold for 4 seconds before starting

Hi I have upgraded from After effects CS5.5 to CC 2014 , and I notices that when I want to make Ram view by hitting 0 num pad key , it pauses for 3 or 4 seconds before it start caching , and it become really annoying if you want to ram preview every 1 min , I tried playing around with the Preferences /Memory/ Ram reserved for other apps , but no good .
That was not the case in CS 5.5 , is it was starting caching as soon as I hit the 0 key .
I am working on Mac pro workstation , quad core intel xieon 2x 3.2 Ghz Mac Os 10.7.5
    Thanks

I am guessing that you have MP rendering turned on in the preferences. Please turn it off and test again.

  • After effects slow screen updates

Hi, Ive got a lenovo yoga laptop (intel graphics card) and tried using After Effects and everything updates really slowly. For example, if I use the type tool and type something it takes minutes to update on the screen. This was happening with Photoshop, but after reading some forums there was a setting to disable open gl I think it was. After doing that everything was fine. But, After Effects doesn't seem to have the same options so was not too sure if there is a setting in there I can disable. Not sure if anyone has experienced this problem. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • After Effects vs Motion

I am about to make a purchase on Adobe software (specifically to make websites). I was just wondering if should go for the whole Adobe Creative Suite 4 Master Collection and get the rest of the programs like After Effects... Anyway I dont really want to spend an extra 450.00 since the WebPackage is around 500.00 but if Aftet Effects will work with Final Cut Pro and enhance my studio then I would like to just invest in the whole shabang. Anyway some advice would be nice thanks

  • After Effects CC: Motion Blur, 3D Layers and Opacity

    Hi All,
I've had this problem for a while now (it happened in CS6 as well).
I'm animating vector layers from Illustrator (continuously rasterize on).  When I apply a camera, 3D Layer and Motion Blur I have a consistent glitch (or maybe not a glitch but conflicting variables).
If I simply animate one layer from 100% opacity to 0%, and another from 0% to 100% from keyframe : 01 to : 02 (switch off, not fade) the top layer lingers with transparency for an extra frame - it doesn't switch off cleanly.
This creates frustrating issues which I have worked around once I go into Avid, but I'd greatly appreciate some advice on how to avoid the issue altogether.  It's particularly frustrating if I am trying to do a smooth camera move and I have have a lingering frame.
    Thanks.

  • Slow motion: PPro v After Effects

I'm new to the CS3 products. In previous versions I found After Effects slow motion (time remapping) to be better quality output than PPro slow motion on a clip. Has anyone done a comparison for slow motion in CS3 between PPro and After Effects?

Oh, right on. I hadn't played with Time Warp in Premiere. Yes, I have tried the PPro Time Reampping, but I still find the keyframing really cumbersome. I guess I've been working with After Effects too long for this sort of thing. Can't teach an old dog, eh? I suppose I'll delve into it more deeply when the need arises.
I've been having another issue with Premiere that precludes me from using Time Remapping, Time Warp, Speed, etc: Since I upgraded to CS3, whenever I apply speed changes (of any kind) the clip are automatically deinterlaced -- whether I've checked "deinterlace" or not. Sometimes this problem goes away when I deselect Frame Blending, but more often not. Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

  • Does the duration of the video change after putting a slow motion effect?

Hi, I'm new with this After Effect software, and through researches and youtube videos, i learned how to make a slow motion clip, but i found a problem just after i was so happy to learn something new. Because I was so excited to try it out, i took a quick 3secs clip and edited it, after all the successful application of the slow motions, the clip suddenly stop without finishing the whole video, the duration of the clip remains 3 seconds after i applied the slow motion, i was hoping that the duration would go over 3 seconds because the slow motioned part was only at 5% the original speed.
So my question is, is the duration really supposed to stay the same after the slow motion is applied or should it expand finishing the whole video.? Then what should I do if the duration doesn't expand?
Pls give me a respond, thx.:))

Nah, that's just not how it works. AE will only extend layers if you use the native time-stretch/ time-remapping. If you use the Timewarp, you will have to pre-compose the source clip to a comp with longer duration and then apply the slow motion.

  • Time remapping / slow motion extremely jumpy with nested sequence!

I have just finished the rough-cut of a ceremony when I went back to add effects-- slow motion, color correct, etc. only to find that ANY time-change is jittery-- extremely jittery, like it's skipping frames.
For trial purposes I created a new timeline with only one video clip placed multiple times. I reduced one to 50% with frame-blending, the other 50% with NO frame-blending and the final using time re-mapping with frame-blending. At 50% I don't expect fluid movement, but they are all acceptable... Until I put a different timeline in the timeline (I think it's a "nested sequence").
When speed is slowed on ANY nested sequence it is jittery. Whether it is a single nested sequence or a multi-camera sequence, it jumps.
Has anyone else had this problem?! Is this a bug? I never noticed it until this wedding. I am using CS3 and I cannot afford the time to re-edit this ceremony with 2.0.... Unless I have no choice.

    Hi Wil,
I have tried using both. Time remapping on the clip (not nested) works fine, so does 'speed change.' But both time remapping and speed change result in jumpy frames when applied to a nested sequenced clip.
I tried this on another (much lower system) and have found the same results. I am begining to think it is the footage but it seems odd that it is perfect when applied to a clip in the timeline but NOT to a timeline in the timeline (nested).
I am on vacation and do not have access to a faster machine until next late next week but for now I will try the export again to be sure Encore sees the same thing.
I am dumbfounded because I had been using 1.5, then 2.0 and now CS3 for weddings for years and have never noticed this. I have noticed it on the both the last project and now this current one.
I thought it could have been the original footage (or a camera problem except that the problems are not there until a nested sequence comes along. I will try moving the footage to my internal drive now and see what happens...
Thank you so far for giving me ideas.
