After reboot, Labview looks for RTE 7.1 (RTE 8.2 installed)

I started developing software using Labview 7.1.  Mid way complete I decided to switch to Labview 8.2.  Now everytime I reboot, I get a Windows installer asking for the Labview 7.1 runtime engine.  I re-installed Labview 7.1 but I keep getting the installer asking for this runtime engine.  Eventually after clicking cancel about 10 times, it finds an engine (not sure which one) and runs the exe.  This exe is on a PC running Windows XP in a factory, controlling a machine.  I need to fix this problem for the customer to be happy.  Is it possible that one of the VIs I used in 7.1 is now in 8.2's code but needs the old engine to work?  How can I fix this problem?  Note that I'm not using any VIs in 8.2 that don't already exist in 7.1. (stupid mistake to use 8.2).
Hopefully someone can help me.

Apparently Windows something got messed-up during the installation process. If it were me I think my first step would be to backup the source code and uninstall all National Instruments software. After the uninstall, reboot and run a registry cleaner like CCleaner (free download) to remove any remnants of old installations. Note that before it cleans up issues that it finds in your registry it will ask you if you want to back up the things that its removing - say "Yes". If necessary, run the scan repeatedly until it reports that it found no additional issues.
Finally, reboot again you should not get the message.
Now reinstall all the NI software. If the latest version of your code is in LV8.2 just install that (actually 8.2.1).
Oh yes, the most important thing: Be sure to do all of this from an administrator account.
Keep us posted on how you are getting on.
Mike...
PS: Looking back on what I wrote it occurs to me that perhaps it might be worth a try to download CCleaner and running it before you do the uninstall. It's probably a long shot, but it's clean-up process might fix whatever is causing the trouble. If it works you have saved a bunch of time. If it doesn't you haven't lost much.

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.

  • Getting slower by the minute, after reboot speeds up for a while...

I've read a coouple of similar posts, about the macbook getting very slow, but I seem to have almost tried all the solution suggestions.... I've used CleanmyMac hundreds of times, I've rebooted on the installation disk and tried the "disk utility": repair disk thing. I've downloaded ONYX and tried that. I've gotten rid of just about everything ecxept for the absolute minimum (Which tends to make the compter a lot less fun). I have hardly no songs on the actual macbook or images, or video files.... I checked out how much space was being used on the individual folders and found that the mobile applications and the library were using by far the most memory space, so I've cut that down manually to the minimum.
But still, after used the mac for a while it takes like 4 minutes for it to erase a simple text file, or to move one file to another folder, so I have to restart the whole system and then i speeds up again for a while.... but what could the problem be??? I have at least 20% of memory space empty at all times, if not 40%, but it no better..... any ideas??????

    Hi,
I would first create another user to see if it behaves the same way and test to see if it's something with the computer, or if it's user specific.

  • HT201250 My hard drive had to be replaced. I am restoring it with my time machine back up, but it is still (after 30 minutes) "looking for other sources" is this normal?

My hard drive was replaced. I am using time machine to restore. It is about 40 minutes into the procedure and the computer is still "looking for other sources" is this normal?

First go to iPhoto Preferences, look in both General and Advanced tabs to make sure that things are set to import from camera into iPhoto.
Then if that doesn't help, connect the camera and open Image Capture in your Applications > Utilities folder and see if you can use Image Capture to reset the import path from the camera to iPhoto.

  • I'm looking for best practice on allowing employees to install apps.

How does your company deal with employees uploading apps on company owned devices? Is there a request process? Can they expense them? What if they use their personal Apple accounts? Do you use an MDM to manage the devices? What are your security concerns? I'm in the process of formulating a policy (large multi national corp.) and am looking for some best practices.
    Thanks

I think the main consideration is that you a multi-national organization, presumably widely distributed geographically.  Local management via Configurator or USB IPCU really don't make sense over the long term.  An MDM is designed for situations such as you describe.  For licensing reasons, each iPad used by a different individual must have a unique Apple ID.  One individual could use the same Apple ID on multiple devices he or she controls.  Individual devices used by multiple individuals can also have a single Apple ID. In our environment, we typically ask each user to setup an individual Apple ID when they receive their device.  They are allowed to download and pay for whatever personal apps they choose.  Apps which would be used for Business purposes must be vetted by Security to ensure they protect organization data.   Business apps can be deployed via the Apple VPP using our MDM, which is AirWatch.  An MDM is included with Lion Server.  You could look at this to get some ideas about what it does and how it does it.  Airwatch offers a free trial.  Some users of this forum have had experience with Meraki.  That is another choice.  You should also look at the Enterprise Deployment Guide
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Enterprise_Deployment_guide.pdf
    and the VPP
    http://www.apple.com/business/vpp/
Frankly, though it isn't completely applicable to your situation, the Education deployment guide has a great deal of good information

    Hope this helps a bit.

  • SCCM 2007 R2 Query - Look for Win2k8 servers where Terminal Services is installed.

    Hi there.
I have been looking all over the net. That's how it feels ;-D. I'm trying to a find out how to create a query that I can use in a SCCM Collection. This query should result in only Windows 2008 Servers where Terminal Services have been installed.
So far I have tried at least ten different ways of doing this. With no prevail. So I hope you guys can assist me.
    1) Create a collection.
    2) Create a query.
    a. The query should only find Windows 2008 Server where Terminal Services is installed.
    3) Then I can distribute only to these servers.
Thank you. Your help is highly appreciated.
    Regards.

Hmm... Well, keeping in mind that from my point of view, there is no reason to not install the client on every box in the enterprise.  What's the reason to not install the client?  If there's a political reason, like those boxes belong to some other team who doesn't want you touching their servers, why are you responsible for ensuring Terminal Services is installed?  Make *them* come up with an alternate method to confirm that.
Just deploy the client and move on.
I cannot think of a single way to determine if Terminal Services is installed without either the ConfigMgr Client installed, or a different administrative tool tell you that.  Whether that other Admin tool is a remote script you design & run, or if you have some other tool available (would SCOM be able to be configured to report that?  Maybe.), I have no suggestions for you other than logging into each server interactively and looking manually.
Which brings me full circle back to: just install the ConfigMgr client.
Slightly OT: once they have the client installed, you could then create a DCM Baseline so that you could run a report and see which ones might have 'drifted' from the approved configuration.Standardize. Simplify. Automate.

  • Mail - Looking for a spotlight plugin that is not installed...

I'm migrating a large mail database from another mail server to Lion Server Mail and it is going fine, but I am seeing lots of errors like this:
Cannot find function pointer OfficeImporterPluginFactory for factory BFA4E323-1889-11D9-82C8-000A959816BE in CFBundle/CFPlugIn 0x104722640 </Library/Spotlight/Microsoft Office.mdimporter> (bundle, not loaded)
    and
indexer process 13609:           /Library/Spotlight/Microsoft Office.mdimporter/Contents/MacOS/Microsoft Office: no matching architecture in universal wrapper
The weird thing about this is that the Lion Server is a clean install, and has never had MS Office anywhere near it.  Nor does it have a /Library/Spotlight directory.  So I'm not sure why Mail / Spotlight are looking in /Library/Spotlight for a MSO plugin.
I'm guessing that the information must be coming from the IMAP data being processed by the mail server - but seems a bit odd.
Anyone know what is going on?  What / Whether I should do anything to mitigate?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Re QTCFR.DLL: Are you sure it isn't QTCF.DLL? That's a QuickTime component.  Try downloading and reinstalling QuickTime from Apple.com.
Re converting to PSE 8: You will have a difficult time of doing that without first having a consistent, connected PSE 6 catalog.  It may be possible, but I recommend sorting out your current situation first.
Generally the easiest way is to install PSE 8 on the old computer, convert your catalogs there, and only then move the catalogs to the new computer, following the methods in this FAQ:
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Move_your_photos_1
This way, you don't need to solve the problem of the missing-disk message.

WE love Macs is a joke. 650 new and 550 refurbished. Plus their phone people are dumb as ____. These prices I assume are = to what the "genius" bar would charge. I love those geniuses last time I talked to them they tried to argue that os x could not read nor write to ntfs disks. OBviously they cannot write to them ( I'm sure there is software out there that makes it possible, but not natively) I was speaking to a supervisor to!!!
Anyways I digress, the second option seems interesting what did they charge you? Any surprises?

    Hi,
Please try to install the software with a new administrator account. A new local administrative account can rule out network policies, corrupt profiles, and incorrectly setup administrative accounts: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/create-user-account#create-user-account=windows -7

  • SpaceX is looking for engineers with LabVIEW experience in Hawthorne CA (LA area)

SpaceX is looking for engineers with LabVIEW programming experience for our Launch group. Our responsibilities include:
Controlling launch pad equipment via PXI/LabVIEW
Commanding and monitoring our Falcon 1 and Falcon 9 rockets via a LabVIEW-based Vehicle control system
Commanding and monitoring our Dragon capsules via a LabVIEW-based Mission Operation system
Ocean recovery of Falcon 1 and Falcon 9 stages after liftoff and Dragon capsules after splashdown
Cargo configuration of Dragon capsules going to resupply the International Space Station
Maintenance of Mission Control Centers with the help of our IT department
With the exception of the launch pad equipment program, most of our LabVIEW programs do not interact with DAQ hardware (unusual, I know). The Vehicle control and Mission Operations software get their data via Ethernet from 'black boxes' that connect to NASA & Commercial RF ground stations. We also create several utility programs in LabVIEW that also don't interact with hardware. So, this is mostly a software gig, not a hardware/software gig.
Ideal candidates will have the following qualities:
    CLD-level LabVIEW experience
A good understanding of basic computer networking (TCP/IP, UPD, firewalls, VPN)
Must be enthusiastic about space (What year did we land on the moon? How many men walked on the moon? How many Space Shuttles do we currently have? etc.)
Must be willing to travel. Common destinations include Houston (NASA Johnson Space Center), McGregor TX (test site), Cape Canaveral FL (launch site), Kwajalein Marshall Islands (launch site)
Must be able to work without supervision. We have a very flat management structure, no one will be telling you what you need to do. If you don’t know, ask. If you do know, get it done.
    About the job:
Job is located in Hawthorne, CA in the Los Angeles area.
This is not a 9-5 job. There will be some late nights.
You won't be LabVIEW only. Everyone chips in as needed. Our group has done Javascript, C++, MATLAB, configuring of TELEX comm systems, cutting of metal with bandsaws, welding, Unigraphics CAD, etc. If we need it and you don't know it, grab a book and learn.
We are only hiring full time employees. Contractors need not apply.
To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, SpaceX hires only U.S. citizens and U.S. Permanent Residents.
Apply at SpaceX.com. Click the Careers button and fill out the general application. Mention this posting in the cover letter field. Don’t reply to this forum. You need to go to SpaceX.com to get your information into our system.

There is a job posting up now at SpaceX.com. Go to the careers tab and search for LabVIEW.
Look for the position called: Mission Control Software Engineers (LabVIEW).

  • Looking for labview driver to control Tennesy Chamber

Looking for Labview driver to control Tennesy Jr Environmental Chamber
    (Watlow series 942 controller) LV6.0
Email [email protected] if you can help out.
    Thanks,
    David.

The first place to look for stuff like this is the vendor's web page--in this case www.watlow.com. How did I know this? I guessed. You can typically guess 90% of company websites...
In a couple minutes I was able to find your controller and a document on how to communicate with it. If you email me I can send it to you (it's too big to post...).
Next, reading the document (which by the way contains a good basic primer on serial communications)I saw that one of the protocols you can use for communicating with the 942 is Modbus RTU. I can also send you a set of modbus drivers.
Hope this helps in thermal testing your chips...

  • Looking for a company to write Labview compatible software

Extech Instruments is a manufacturer of hand held test instruments (www.extech.com) . Along with our proprietary products we also import and private label a number of instruments from the far east. Many of these instruments have custom RS232 software available that allow them to communicate with a Windows XP compatible PC via the serial port.
We are looking at being able to offer these instruments with LabView compatible software/drivers? that would allow our users to integrate the instruments into their data acquisition systems.
We are looking for a company that would be able to take the existing instrument and software and do the programming so that we can offer a finished product with a LabView Compatib
    le label on it.
If you know of such a company please let me know.
    Thanks.

    Hi Scott,
I am the National Manager of Neo Vista Systems Integrators Pty Ltd, a National Instruments Alliance Member. We have extensive experience in providing "LabVIEW compatible" drivers for several companies in the same position as yours - developing a package that your customers can use to communicate with custom hardware, and have a great deal of experience with liasing with National Instruments in the creation of fully compatible code and licensing. All of the technical specialists that work on driver development are National Instruments Certified LabVIEW Developers (see here for more information of the CLD qualification), so they know LabVIEW back-to-front, and as they use LabVIEW drivers themselves, they know what structures and functionality that your customers are after. I'd like to hear more about you and your application. You're welcome to email me at [email protected] also, please feel free to browse our website, as it will give you a better understanding of our expertise, previous products, and corporate direction: www.nvsi.com.au. If you'd like, I'd be happy to provide you with example code and documentation to demonstrate our skills in driver production.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
    Christopher
PS: Several US customers are particularly happy with the project developmental time zone difference between Australia and the US, as whilst we provide a project manager that can be contacted 24hrs, the code development is carried out while you sleep - therefore any changes you request at the close of business can often be delivered to you email inbox by the next morning.
