After updating to Windows 8.1, Windows Explorer crashes.
Hello, I have recently updated from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. When it finished the install and reboot, it went to my desktop where my background image was gone, Kaspersky Pure 3.0 was gone, and Windows Explorer crashes every time it is opened. The other
two problems are not as big of a problem right now so I searched around for a fix on this issue. I found that some applications, specifically Autodesk, were causing conflicts. I don't have Autodesk but I decided to update everything anyways. I reinstalled
Kaspersky, fully updated it and ran a scan to see if it was a virus, which it is not. I updated AVG 2014 free, Malwarebytes free, and many others. I also ran Windows Update. I ran CCleaner to see if it would fix the problem and it didn't either. I looked at
the error report and saw that it was caused by StackHash_35ff, which through further investigation turned out to be a fancy term for nothing. What is my problem? I really don't want to restore to an older version because I've spent the better part of the day
allowing Windows 8.1 to bother me. Please help because I'm out of ideas and nothing from other responses seemed to be the solution.
Okay, so the above worked. I ended the Com Surrogate task, the went into cmd and typed in these two commands;
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll
Everything seems to be back in order. I hope this helps anyone who has the same problem, seeing as no one else came up with this solution.

Sequence of events after updating to 2014.3
Opened current build.
Muse window said 1234 assets have changed
Chose to update assets
During review it brought up one item around 17%. I chose to merge with Muse.
Completed updating assets
Published complete site (not just changes), completed successfully
Removed the item that was shown during the review (see above)
Re-published site with "changes only" successfull
Attempted to save the website using same name (Save)
Crashed with this error:
"Object UID:U19775 has two (or more) owners: U4308 and U4288"
Reopened the same .muse file
It opened the site with a "-recovered" tag added
Did not say anything about assets changed like the first time.
Published to a new site successfully
Tried to Save As to a new .muse file
Crashed and gave this long error:
"UIDs With Multiple Owners: ImageFrame owned by PagePageItem and PagePageItem and PagePageItem and BaseLink and PagePageItem and PagePageItem"
What can I try to resolve this or should I upload my .muse file for an examination?Delete all files in this folder C:\ProgramData\Adobe\SLStore
Delete all files in this folder C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Adobe\SLCache
Delete all files in this folder C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Adobe\OOBE

2.Save a copy of this file to your desktop C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Muse CC Libraries\2014.3
3.Save a copy of this file to your desktop C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Muse CC Library Then Delete these files in the original folders.
When you are finished with the reinstall, open any Mulib file from wihin muse to re-establish the library folder ,
copy files from the respective library folders that you have saved to your desktop and put them back in the library foders,
so you dont have to reinstall all your Mulibs
Now Uninstall all Muse Apps & restart your Computer
Then start this process again
1) First Install Muse_2014_2_CC_LS24 which will install to c:/
2) Then Install Muse_2014_3_CC_LS24 Which should automatically install to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Muse CC 2014
When this is complete you should have no folders left in C:\Adobe Muse CC 2014 (DONT DELETE THE FOLDER JUST LEAVE IT THERE) -
After update to IOS 7x some apps are crashing a lot & system Reboots!
After installing IOS 7.1.1 on 1 x iPhone 4 16GB, 3x iPhone 4s 64GB and 1 iPad mini 64GB, Apps started crashing which worked well on IOS 5.5 & IOS 6. After Updating to IOS 7, the problems started. Some of my favourite games like "Call Of Duty: Black Ops Zombies"and Avengers Initiative keep crashing at the start. "Call Of Duty" reported Low Memory even though I turned off Background App Refresh, Re-downloaded the Apps, performed full system reboot, enabled "Reduce Motion", enabled "Increase Contrast" and still no luck. I have also deleted many of my Apps to free up storage space but still no improvement. Other problems major problems are that the screen freezes and Apps become unresponsive requiring a full system reboot. This happens very often and also when trying to update or download Apps the system crashes and often Reboots itself. I believe the main problem is with low memory because I ran an App called "Battery Doctor" which shows that 82% of the 512MB RAM is already been used before any Apps have even been started leaving only 89MB of free RAM which is hardly enough to run decent Games on. There are many occasions when FaceTime wouldn't allow Sign In and in iTunes Apps would revert to how they were after applying changes. When adding Contacts, changes would often revert back. Also I have noticed that the iPhone sometimes would display the wrong amount of free Storage space and it would sometimes show like 5GB available and then go to 0MB available and cause crashes during downloads. Another problem I found was that when Apps start up, a white patch shows on the screen temporarily which wasn't apparent before IOS 7x. When adding contacts I noticed that with "Increase Contrast" disabled, some of the entries added did not display while typing with the keyboard and the text was greyed out making it difficult to read what you are typing. Now I wish that I had not updated to IOS 7 as suggested because it has messed up my £700 iPhones and I don't see a way of downgrading without Jailbreaking making my phones worthless. We are very very upset and disappointed because we paid so much money for the devices and have not had them long. We do not want to buy a newer device just because of the update messing up our phones. Also I do not want to try and restore from a previous backup because the last few times I've tried and it does not restore everything. It is very time consuming and I am too ill to go through all that again on each device. Also I believe the restore does not give me the choice of going back to IOS 5.5 or IOS 6. Therefore if Apple could give the opportunity to update to IOS 5.5 or IOS 6 for older devices and have a separate update for IPhone 5s which have a faster processor and double RAM (1GB) then I would be very grateful. I would also like to add the fact that IOS 7.x.x drains the battery very quickly. After reading the many complaints about IOS 7 update & my personal experience, I now regret updating and also fear that future updates may render my iPhones useless. I bought my iPhone 4s direct from Apple and paid a premium for Factory Unlocked iPhones. I think the iPhones may now be out of warranty and are very unhappy with this situation. Please, please please could you send a fix in another update!
Actually DIESEL they do force you to update. my wife has not update hers yet to ios6 and none of the apps work at full tilt anymore because they are all updated for ios 6....Apple is now making you either update(and ruin your iphone 4s) or buy the new iphone 5(which i doubt will have any of the problems people with iphone 4s are having).
Since updating my 4s i have lost signal, data has been very low at best. i can not access any apps or they open up and do not refresh. I use to have 4bars at my work and now i have 1. -
Display Quality issue after updating to Bootcamp 3.1 (windows 7 64-bit)
I managed to install Windows 7 64-bit without issues (all issues got resolved after installing bootcamp 3.0 from the OSX DVD).
Then I saw the BootCamp update for windows 7 64-bit as being (Recommended) and I installed it...
after that I got a problem in the screen where I get low quality in gradient colors.
I tried installing the ATI Radeon 4850 Driver from the ATI website , but without any luck, the driver is identified correctly and color depth (32-bit) , but still the quality isn't acceptable.
Anyone facing similar issue? please advise ? I tried restore point but it failed.
Any suggestions?RegrettingSwitch wrote:
I think that any of you expecting (as I was) non-mobility cards are going to
be disappointed (as I am). SiSoft Sandra definitely reports Radeon HD4850
Mobility in my iMac, which is the reason I can't install the latest Catalyst
Are you sure? Since both CPU-Z 1.53.1 and Catalyst Control Center are stating that my graphic card is a ATI Radeon HD 4850 (device ID 944A).. :S
So, Bootcamp 3.1 seems to have solved nothing (plugging headphones in still
jumps one core straight to ~100%) and actually created a problem that didn't
exist - i.e colour banding!. And, obviously, no software fix is going address
You could try to roll back the driver. I've more or less the instruction written in this thread and at the moment, with 8.661 version of the driver I don't have the color banding issue (I've to test stability yet, since it seems that this driver version is quite more unstable).
However, yeah I feel your disappointment, I'm a Mac user since 2001, changed several macs and this is the first one that comes with so much issues. -
After updating, I only see the window border, Firefox is not rendering.
The browser toolbars, windows, everything is invisible. I only get the border of the window. This is more than just missing toolbars - there are no toolbars, no minimize/maximize/close icons, nothing but the window border.
A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

After updating, menus are now transparent & windows in list view black!
I recently updated via the software update control panel some security updates and a few misc. other application updates and have now discovered that Finder pull-down menus are now totally transparent with the text appearing somewhat transparent (still readable with effort, depending on background clutter on desktop). Additionally, Finder windows in list view appear with black backgrounds and the text to folders and items within that window also is black meaning that I can only see the icons and am unable to read file and folder names.
Attempts to fix this problem have thus far included permissions repair, download and reinstall the 10.4.8 combo updater and these have not worked.
I am not blaming this issue on the updates, but it coincides in timing with that and I am quite puzzled. One interesting note is that a folder now exists on the main drive directory called "Developer," which was not there before.
Does anyone have a suggestion or an idea of what this could be?
Thanks
G4 Sawtooth 1.4 ghz Mac OS X (10.4.8) Also am running 2 Power Tower Pros/OSXOnyx may be causing problems. Don't use it on a non-backed up system, as cleaning caches may damage them, and make things not work. Make sure your Spotlight indexes all drives you wish to be searchable. Go to Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Spotlight and add each hard drive to the Privacy section, and then remove it again. Then click on the Spotlight menu every half hour to see when it stops saying that it is indexing. It might take a few hours. But once done, it should be fixed.

After updating to iOS4.3.5 App Store crashes on launch...
I recently restored my iPhone 4 to iOS 4.3.5 after previously running 4.3.3 jailbroken with jailbreakme.com.
After the restore I am no longer able to use the App Store... It just crashes on launch.
I have restored several times... I have reset network settings... I have hard reset using the power button and home button...
I really don't want to have to restore as a new iPhone as I have lots of messages with information that I need.
Could it be due to the new 90 day policy, restricting additional devices?
Can anyone help, bare some light on the situation or just explain why this is happening??
If you have a similar problem please join this thread and state your situation too so you can be linked in to any outcome.
Thank you.Okay... I have managed to fix my problem.
I restored by putting my iPhone 4 into DFU mode first.
1.Turn iPhone off using the power button
2. Plug iPhone into computer
3. Press and hold power, and home button together for 10 seconds
4. Release power button, but continue to hold home button until iphone is recognised by iTunes
Remember to back up your iPhone before doing this!!!
Restore and update iPhone....
One problem I had after doing this is that the Mail icon was nowhere to be seen...
If this is the case for you go to...
Settings>General>Restrictions>Enable Restrictions>Enter passcode (twice)> Then Disable Restrictions
This didn't actually work at first, so I played around with the settings in Restrictions, After turning everything off and then back on again, I disabled restrictions and low and behold, mail was back.
I hope this helps you if you've also been having difficulties. -
After update - Safari, Firefox, Thunderbird, Azureus, and SWT crash
Dear All,
my PowerBook G4 15" 1.5 GHz, 1.25 GB RAM worked perfectly. Last week I performed the update. I got the newest Java, and I think that this caused a problem.
Right now, programs like Safari, Firefox, Thunderbird, Azureus, Skype and SWT (needed for Azureus) crash just minutes after starting. I think, that this is a JAVA problem. I start them alone, so there cannot be any problem with CPU power, and they all worked perfectly before.
Just after rebooting my system I started Safari. It crashed in seconds. I attach the logfile and ask you kindly for help .
Best, Masterkv

Powerbook G4 15" 1.5 GHz Mac OS X (10.4.8) All automatical updates performedSometimes the automatic Software Update mechanism built into Mac OS X fails to display appropriate, available updates, or fails to properly apply updates that have been successfully downloaded. It also is sometimes inaccessible via its normal location in the Apple menu.
"Grayed-Out" Software Update menu item Generally, Software Update can be universally accessed via the Apple menu. In some cases however -- sometimes after a major system update -- the Software Update menu item appears in a grey shade indicating that it cannot be selected
The most consistent workaround for this issue has been clearing of system caches -- a task easily accomplished with a tool like Panther Cache Cleaner.
Unable to apply updates Some users are presented with a permissions error referring to the directory: "/tmp/501/TemporaryItems/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate." when attempting to check for new updates, install updates, or launch the Software Update application.
There are a number of causes for, and solutions to this issue.
Moved applications First, if you have moved any Apple applications from their original locations inside the "Applications" folder, Software Update may not be able to locate them. Make sure to leave Apple-installed applications where they are originally installed.
Permissions repairs Next, try using Apple's Disk Utility (located in Applications/Utilities) to repair permissions, then try running Software Update again. This works for a high percentage of afflicted systems. Failing this, try starting up from your Mac OS X CD/DVD and repairing permissions again.
Deleting Receipts In some cases, the issue can be resolved by deleting one or a handful of files inside the Mac OS X Library folder. Try deleting the "receipt(s)" that corresponds to the application or Mac OS X version you are attempting to install (i.e. iPhotoUpdate403.pkg or MacOSXUpdate10.3.8.pkg). The receipts are located in /Library/Receipts, and appear as .pkg files (these files tell Software Update whether or not a specific update has been installed).
Modifying permissions A somewhat more tedious process involves using the tool BatChmod to modify folder permissions for the "/tmp/501" directory implicated by the error message mentioned above. Use the Finder to search for names containing 501 or 502 (depending on your error message) with second criteria both visible and invisible then drag the enclosing invisible Temp folder on to the BatChmod icon and select the 'Apply Ownership and Privileges' then press apply 'Apply' button.
tar missing (Developer Tools uninstalled) In some cases, applications critical to Software update -- in particular tar and pax may be missing from your Mac OS X installation. In order to make sure that these applications to indeed reside on your startup drive, you may want to try an Archive and Install process, restoring these critical components that may have been otherwise damaged.
This problem can occur, for instance, if you previously installed XCode and then used the XCode Tools uninstaller. The uninstaller may mistakenly break the tar utility, causing Software Update to fail. Reinstalling the XCode Tools from the Panther CD can cause this issue.
Logical link broken In other cases, the logical link for the /tmp directory may be broken. Entering the following commands through the Terminal application (located in Applications/Utilities on a standard Mac OS X installation) usually resolves this problem (note that you will be asked for your administrator password):
sudo mv /tmp /tmp_old
sudo ln -s /private/tmp /tmp
Waiting Finally simply waiting and trying the update again at a later time has proved successful for a number of users.
Of course, if the update is available from Apple's software download page, you can obtain the appropriate installers via this route until you can solve the issue with Software Update. -
After updating to iso6 my App Store is crashing a lot is it just me or is it others and why is that
I can't load the App Store it is becoming a problem and its very irritating I can't look for new apps its and is obviously a problem can I fix this on my own or is it something with the iPod
Its clearly the ios 6 update...I have a 2 month old 4s...worked perfectly until the upgrade...now my app store rarely opens...other apps crash or will not load..battery life is now weak weak weak..
The thing that TRULY amazes me is that I was on the phone with an apple tech yesterday, actually 2 different techs, when I said that there are several users on this site with the same problem their response was "first Ive heard of it !"
Useless useless.... -
After updating to 10.6.8, Diablo II crashes on startup
Updated to 10.6.8 through Software Update last weekend, and Diablo II will no longer even open. It worked absolutely fine right up until the update. Can anyone help me fix this? Thanks so much!
