AfterValueChange event

Hi everybody,
I tried removing the requestfocus() call and did
not see any change. I have found that if you set the widget to a new
value, the problem goes away.
for eg, whenever the validation fails, after the call to purgeEvents()
iam doing this
Amount_dedC.value = 0.0;
Is this the right behaviour?
Thanks and regards,

Thanks for the replies so far, but this is not the problem. I know about
the "Validate on keystroke" option and it is definitely swithed off.
I was rather thinking along the lines of this being be a 'funny' in
Forte. Has anyone seen this before? Here is more information:
1) The windows that it is happening on all have parent windows.
2) The fields with this problem are all part of a mapped gridfield, ie.
it has a type.
However, I have constructed a test class with these characteristics, but
it is no good. There must be something else that could cause this. Any
ideas?

Hi Jaco,
Check if the option "Validate on keystroke" is set
to true on the widget that posts the AfterValueChange.
If so, than that's the reason. Turn it off and your
problem will go away.

Hi there,
I'm hoping that someone out there has experienced the following (and
knows why it is happening. ) :-)
I have a couple of windows on which the AfterValueChange event is
triggered on a field upon hitting the delete key.
We all know that this should only happen upon leaving the field, ie.
the
field loosing focus. The problem is that I'm trying to recreate this
in
a simple test class, but now it won't happen. I still have the
original
windows on which it is happening, but I would like to construct
something small and simple to send to Forte.
Any ideas as to why this could be happening?
Many thanks in advance.
Jaco

    JacoIs the "Validate on KeyStroke" property turned on for the widget in the
    original window? I believe the AfterValueChange gets triggered every
    time you hit a key if it is.
    I can't think of anything else, off the top of my head. I haven't had my 1st

    Hello Jaco,
    i could not reproduce the problem you have. The best way for a help in your
    case is a little sample which may be modified by others (forte-users).
    Please attach your PEX-Code in your next reply and describe it.
    I'am absolutly sure that we are able to give an helpfull answer.
    One question forward: 'Do you use the FunktionKey-Event in your Window(s)?'
    Sorry, but no other way exists to resolve your problem (We/I'am too far,

    Hi, everybody, it is my first question to you all.

    If you are a beta site, look in the Forte Release 3 Beta Features manual

  • Radio List events

    I've noticed a quirk (imagine that) with Forte radio lists and am
    wondering if there is a known work around. Here is the problem:
    We are trying to catch the value of a radio list. We want the value
    that the user inteded by his/her click, so we register for the
    AfterValueChange event. Ordinarily this work fine, but an error ensues
    when the user clicks for a second time the calue that they just clicked.
    Error:
    DEVELOPER ERROR: Attempt to invoke method which is invalid for
    DataValue object with Null Value
    A double-click will do this as well when registered for the
    AfterValueChange event. Registering for the Click event is no good
    because the value has not yet changed to what the user intended. The
    value is still at the same place prior to the user click.
    Does anybody have any light that they'd like to shed on this one? Much
    thanks in advance. :)
    Sincerely,

    I've noticed a quirk (imagine that) with Forte radio lists and am

    We are trying to catch the value of a radio list. We want the value
    DEVELOPER ERROR: Attempt to invoke method which is invalid for
    DataValue object with Null Value
    Based on the error message you described, I predict that your radio list
    widget has a mapped type of integerdata, and it doesn't have any memory.
    There are at least 2 solns:
    A. If you change the mapped type to integer you wont need to '=new;'
    memory for the widget, but you loose the power of the integerdata class.
    B. If you keep the mapped type to integerdata, then you need to edit the
    'Init()' method by adding a line which says radiolistAttrib = new;
    and your problems will be corrected.

    We are currently working on wrappering the APIs for UniVerse (aka Pick on

    We received some help from the guys at RTD in Denver.
    We tested out a C program that uses the Universe APIs and it works fine.
    We will be building the Forte piece and compiling it this week.
    Our first application is to inquire the UniVerse data, after that is

    Let us know how we can help.

    Subject: RE: Forms That Will Not Close
    Exiting the event loop will not close the window! Invoking
    'Close' method on the window will. Check if this method
    is executed. It appears, the AfterFinalize event exits the
    event loop and nothing more. Then, your applications
    waits for some event from your main window, like 'Mouse-
    Enter', before invoking Window.Close().
    Pascal
    Hi,
    We seem to be having some type of deadlock problem when trying to
    close
    forms and am wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem.
    The
    phenomenon does not always occur and is not specific to any one client
    machine.
    I will explain the phenomenon:
    1. We have an object that contains our main application startup
    method.
    This method then instantiates our main application window (Control)
    and
    invokes the Display() method using start task.
    2. All other forms created by the application are created using a form
    manager service object which exists on the client partition. The form
    manager has a CreateForm() method which instantiates a form class of
    the
    specified type and invoked the form's Display() method using start
    task.
    3. Each form has a Close push button which when clicked invokes
    Window.RequestFinalize().
    Now, the problem we have is this:
    The user starts the application and the main application window is
    displayed. The user then selects an option from the main window and a
    child form is created using the form manager service object and is
    displayed. The user can continue to create more child forms by
    selecting
    options from the main window and all child forms are instantiated and
    displayed correctly.
    However, when the user attempts to close one of the forms the form
    does
    not close. The finalize event is triggered and the event loop is
    exited,
    but the form continues to be displayed and does not close. If the user
    then moves the mouse pointer over the main application window, the
    child
    form immediately closes. Moving the mouse cursor over other child
    windows (or even the desktop) does NOT do this - only when the mouse
    cursor is moved over the main window does the child form close.
    Does anyone have any ideas on this?
    Regards,
    Jace.

    Jason,
    No, self.Close() should close the window. This is the
    method I referred to. You could place a traceline
    behind self.Close() to see if it is executed. It is not
    inconcievable some exception may exit the Display()
    method before self.Close() is executed.
    After that, maybe, some events from your main
    window trigger something that causes a call like 'My-
    Window.Close()', where 'MyWindow' is a subclass of
    'UserWindow', so 'MyWindow' gets closed after all.
    Maybe you've overridden 'Close()', so now it doesn't
    work properly anymore.
    Are you sure you exit the event loop after you press
    the close button?? The display method is not regis-
    terred for any <PushButton>.Click event, though maybe
    you just didn't include the full Display method in your
    mail.
    Remember that an event loop will only respond to an
    event if it is not currently handling an event. So, the
    method behind <PushButton>.Click may call a self.
    Window.RequestFinalize(), which will cause an After-
    Finalize event to be posted, which will be placed in
    the event queue. If this method however keeps waiting
    for something, the event loop will not respond to the
    AfterFinalize event, until this method is done waiting.
    Pascal.
    Hi Pascal,
    The Display() method is as follows:
    self.Open();
    event loop
    when Window.AfterFinalize do
    exit;
    when task.Shutdown do
    exit;
    end event;
    self.Close();

    Greg,
    This is a bit of a long shot, but has anyone experience with integrating
    Forte with PI/Open. PI/Open is a variant of PICK. We have a requirement
    to read and update a PI/Open database from within our Forte application,
    and we would be most interested to hear from anyone who has experience in
    doing this.
    We are aware of a set of APIs provided with PI/Open that are written in
    "C". We could wrapper these from within Forte, however the issue is that
    the APIs provided are non-shared, and Forte requires shared libraries.Would be interersting, which operating system you're using.
    You could write a dll (on windows) or shared library (on unix) wrappering the
    original,statically linked "C"-Libs. This lib could be used by Forte.

  • Custom Scroll Bar (value before mouse buttonrelease)

    Hi Forte Users,
    Has anyone been able to modify the scroll bar so that the value was
    continually updated?
    Basically I want to be able to change a value in a DataField while the
    scroll is moved, not after the mouse button is released.
    The AfterValueChanged event will only be posted once the mouse button is
    released therefore I used a Timer.Tick event to continually poll the scroll
    bar for its value but found that this value also only changed when the
    mouse button was released.
    Any help would be appreciated,

    We have recently upgraded to 30L4, and Forte say that this fixes a

    Hi,
    I guess many people is interested in finding out how different it is
    between SynerJ and TOOL.
    Here is something to share.
    1. Forte is posting all manuels ( SynerJ, Fusion, Conductor ) on the Web.
    You just need a customer login in.  Here is a good start.
    2. java.sun.com now has a beta document J2EE APM which explain the
    architectual of J2EE.  The document how and when you will use JSP,
    Servlet, EJB & Java Bean etc.  You will find it along with the J2EE beta
    free download.
    My feeling is: on system management level, SynerJ is more or less similiar
    with what we have now ( maybe they jus rewriting everything in Java ).
    However, on development and design level, there is quite a large
    difference.  Nevertheless, it's exciting.
    Regards,
    Peter Sham.

    Hi Dave,
    You have no chance to catch this exception in aftervaluechange block.
    This event is triggered if the value in DataField is OK.
    You get only Arithmetic exception without the aftervaluechange event if the

    You have no chance to catch this exception in aftervaluechange block.
    This event is triggered if the value in DataField is OK.

  • SetAsFuncitonKey() and shortcut keys

    SetAsFuncitonKey() seemigly provides shortcut key functionality -- but this
    proves not to be the case as once you register a key as a funciton key,
    anytime you press that key, whichever widget has focus will post an
    AfterValueChange event. This creates a lot of conflicts once you register
    a bunch of function keys and do some validations on AfterValueChange.
    Workarounds might include the ability to register key+modifier with
    SetAsFunctionKey() or to have a reason attribute on the AfterValueChange
    event -- but neither currently exist in Forte.
    Does anybody have any workarounds so that using SeyAsFuncitonKey() does not
    result in the extraneous AfterValueChange events?
    If not, does anybody have any good workarounds for creating shortcut keys
    -- without having to use the menu bar.
    Thanks.

  • Re: (forte-users) Formatting DecimaNullable withTemplate

    Hello Fabrizio,
    i don't look at your window, but we has the problem to check the input of a
    DecimalData
    with a specific mask. If the user type in wrong data (prescale/sucscale)
    then we have
    to inform the user and discard the changes.
    E.g. template='##,##'
    User types 5,123 Exception (Too many sucscale)
    User types -5,12 Exception (no Minus allowed)
    User types 123, Exception (Too many prescale)
    User types 12,12 No Exception (Value is accepted)
    User types 12,12+ No Exception (Value is accepted)
    The template check is implemented in the FillString/SetValue method of an
    inherited DecimalNullable-Class. I am wondering, if it is not possible to
    find a way
    reacting on your behaviour. You use a Domain.
    1. You have to implement the SetValue/Fillstring method for this domain.
    2. You must turn on KeyStroke reacting.
    3. You have to implement an EventHandler for reacting on the input which must
    be registered on your Display-based Event-Loop.
    4. MayBe som Code must be called from your Domain-Class on AfterValueChange
    Event
    at your Domain.
    A lot of work, i know. Maybe a lot of code for every Domain-Use in your
    Event-Loop. We
    made an Enhancement-Request for our problem, but there ar no solution now
    (2 years).
    The next problem you may have, if you use many attributes in your Domain.
    Because
    the transport (Serialize/Deserialize/Allocation) eats a lot of Performance.
    Direct filling from Database maybe a risk (SetValue-method with Parameter
    string).
    You have to check if you fill your class from implizit methods
    (GetValue-Method from
    DBDataSet) and so on that no code will running (Performance).
    Good Luck
    Joseph Mirwald
    PS: Use Decode-Method if possible instead of own implementation of
    string-manipulation
    because Framework-Lib-Calls ar much mor performant.

    Yes, we tried with domain, implementing the FillString/Setvalue methods,
    and using the Decode method. And indeed is the decode method that always
    (no matter which regional settings you have) round the decimal part to 2
    digit.
    Nonetheless, I would be interested to receive if possible the domain you
    implemented, Joseph. We may still discover something... ;-)

    Hi Dave,
    did you try this:
    event loop
    Begin
    when ..... do
    when <est_daily_rev_amt>.aftervaluechange do
    when ..... do
    exception
    when ex:ArithmeticException Do
    End;
    end loop;
    As far as I remember it matters where you put Begin
    inside an event loop. This way you will catch the
    exception without dropping off the loop. If the value
    is O.K. the aftervaluechanged event will be executed.
    Hope that helps!

    Thanks Zenon,
    You mean... that without the aftervaluechange event,
    I could catch
    this?
    Because by no means is my exception block anchored to
    that event.
    I am looking for advice of where I could put this
    exception block...if
    there
    is another possible place at all.
    Thanks.

    Hi Dave,
    You have no chance to catch this exception in
    aftervaluechange block.
    This event is triggered if the value in DataField is
    OK.
    You get only Arithmetic exception without the
    aftervaluechange event if
    the
    length of the decimal is greater as 28.

    The problem is:
    I have a DataField, mapped >type :DecimalNullable
    the input mask is set to Template ( #,##0;;;;)
    Because it is Template I can't validate on
    keystroke and
    I can't set the max characters in the >propertiessheet.
    This works great until, Someone enters over >28characters into the
    field.
    It then displays the errors:
    USER ERROR: Operation caused arithmetic >overflow
    Class: qqsp_ArithmeticException
    Error #: [301, 7]
    Deteced at: DecimalData.SetScale at 1

    This is the first bit of code that executes >when Ileave the field
    and the
    value has changed:
    when <est_daily_rev_amt>.aftervaluechange do
    Begin
    sys_upd_usr_nam = >aUserProfileBO.user_nam;
    aCPVDetailItem.SetState(base_detailItem.CHANGED_STATE);
    Exceptionwhen ex:ArithmeticException Do
    Task.ErrMgr.Clear();
    Window.MessageDialog(
    messageText='Revenue amount >can not exceed
    100,000,000',
    MessageType=MT_WARNING);
    Self.Window.PurgeEvents();
    End;
    This is what I do:
    I put a debugging stop on the "when line" and >the"Exception line"
    I also set the debugger to stop on all >exceptionsand posts.
    It never reaches the above code!?
    Is this a forte bug?
    I need the template and I need it to be a
    decimalnullable.
    Is there any suggestions for where else I may >catchthis
    Exception???
    Thanks in advance__________________________________________________
