Again: IE 7 and streaming
Hi there!
First of all, sorry about the English. I would like to ask about the embedded QT player in html.
I have reed the discussing about this issue a few times and finely I got confectioned.
Is there someone how can tell me in a few simple words:
1. Is there any possibility to add QT media to use with IE 7 without installation of QuickTime player on the end user computer?
2. At the first time someone visit the website, is he must install activex or something like this?
3. What is the "easy way" to embed QT media for IE users? Of course, with the minimum of any additional application and any installation required.
4. What is the necessary activation needs the end user to install etc. (maybe nothing, I don’t know, but I ask for detailed answer, pleas…)
I tried out the java script but it doesn't help me.

Izzy, I'm not sure you understand, or whether I understand you.
As Kirk wrote, you do need to download and install the free QT player/plugin, in order to see QuickTime media in a web page. (Well, there is an alternative, called "Quicktime Alternative", but I don't want to get into that.)
Javascript is not something you need to download. Most web browsers, including all the major ones, support javascript, and have it on by default (although the user can turn it off). Javascript is now recommended as the code to use to embed QT content in web pages, rather than the older Embed and Object tags. The reason for this is the strange behavior of IE7, which requires an ActiveX control to play media (Object tag), but then blocks ActiveX by default. Writing the code to embed media in javascript, rather than the Embed and Object tags, is a way to get around that, so IE7 will play the media, without asking the user whether they want to allow the content, warn them about it, etc.

Facebook and streaming audio issues
I like using Facebook and stream audio from my favorite radio stations! However, I am running into adobe flash upgrade issues!!!! I can bring up Facebook but I can't run certain programs within it. I can bring up my favorite radio stations but won't let me stream audio!!!! Any solutions?
What exactly are your issues?
I had an issue where every image found on the blog template was showing up instead of the actual image that represented the blog post. My fix was to make sure of the following:
1. Blog image needs to be small in file size. Many bloggers post images that came straight off their camera and I found that the share tools will grab the most accessbile and light-weight files first. If the image is too big then it won't grab it at all. The share tool grabs the smallest and fastest loading, top-most in the code image first, which means the images found on the template of the blog.
This issue occurs at WordPress too, so it is not restricted to BC but rather the tools provided to share.
2. Try to avoid putting the image inbetween <p></p>'s, when I pulled mine out of the the paragraph format, they were found quicker.
3. Avoid having the image lead off the blog post list before the bodypreview, if you can at all just show the image on within post detail page if you can. I know that having an image in the list helps, but then just put the whole blog in the list, like WP does. Problem here is that most share tools on the list have a problem diciphering what to share, so it shares the whole page, giving everthing a share count. WP does this better. They isolate the independent listings and provide isolated share tools for each list.
Wait a week and the technology will change again.
Good news is that the element that Facebook offers to share a page on the web will be featuring the option to upload an image to accompanying the sharing of the post. You can see this happening at Facebook already when you drop in the link of the post into a news feed.

I got my first Apple TV and am very happy with it.
I set it up to stream from my macPro and it works well, but for some movies... it often takes long to stream before it starts playing.
Is there a way to sync part of my library, and stream the rest?
I've been looking at the documentation, and it seems I would have to set up Apple TV from scratch again, something I hate to do, because I usually don't mess with things that work weelyes you can do that (via the custom sync option), but you if you don't already have any sync options then you will need to break the link and reconnect it again but this time not as a shared streaming library.
you may want to look into why your streaming is slow though. if you are connected via WIFI you may want to look at why it's slow (most likely wifi interference or poor coverage). -
Syncing and streaming from different itunes libraries on same computer
First, I came across a thread saying that it is possible to sync and stream from the same itunes library, but Apple technical support says this is not possible and the thread didn't explain how this is done. I know you can still stream music from a library that is synced with the ATV by using Airtunes, but you can't stream movies through Airtunes. If there's a way to sync and stream movies through the ATV from the same itunes library, can someone please let me know how to do it?
If this is not possible, does anyone know if it's possible to sync to one library and stream from another on the same computer? I tried this last night and for a second I thought it worked because my itunes was listed on the ATV twice (once as syncing and the other as streaming) but then when I switched back to the library that the ATV was supposed to be synced with, that library disappeared from the ATV and I lost all of the media on the ATV. (As a side note, when I started syncing again, the ATV showed that it still had all of the media on there, but itunes showed that there was nothing and started copying everything again - very annoying).
This is an issue for me because I only have one computer and all of my media on an external harddrive. I like having my music synced with the ATV but my movies will not fit on the ATV so I would prefer to just stream those rather than have to delete and add movies everytime I want to watch something different. Any help would be greatly appreciated.missed a very important step necessary to achieve this, in the summary tab in iTunes there is a check box... "show only synced items".. if you uncheck that box then unsynced items will will appear on the appleTV menus and when you click on them they will be streamed... this gives you the sync and stream from the same library part of what the OP wants.
the other part of the puzzle is to let items inside and outside of the iTunes Folder exist in the iTunes library... the library is file that contains all the files that you see in itunes... files don't need to be in the iTunes folder to be in the itunes library though..
the trick here is that when you drag the files from your external (the ones you don't want on your computer) and into iTunes... press option as you drag and the files will be added to the iTunes library (a reference/path to them really) but the files will not be copied to the iTunes folder... when iTunes looks for that file (to play it directly or to stream or sync to appleTV) it looks at the reference and says.. hey i can get this file here (on your external) and goes and fetches it.
on a PC you press SHIFT as you drag into iTunes so the item(s) don't get copied to the iTunes folder.. no OPTION key on PCs.

Adobe FMS 4.5 and Streaming to DVR and Live Not Working

I am having some issues with streaming Live and DVR. I am fairly new to the FMS world, but not to the streaming media world.
I am using a FMS server on AWS, version 4.5. I have installed DVRcast on the server and created a test application. I am seeing no errors in the logs, all services are running properly. No errors when connecting to the serve via FMLE. Logged into the Admin Console, I see the connection. In the Adobe Flash Media Playback Setup player, it just buffers. I try to play the rtmp stream in another test player and get a security error. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Also having the same problem.
Have installed the applications and stream to the server using FMLE with the DVR Auto Record on and the server is receiving the stream.
But there is no file being saved and when I try to connect with a RTMP player it failes to connect, the livedvr_client_test sample code gives back "Main.as : Not connected to FMS yet - Trying again ...."
Normal LIVE streaming works, it is just the application. Followed the PDF to the letter.
Any help with this would be great!

Sync some content and stream the rest.
I have 1 itunes library on my G5 and as i have the original ATV with only the 40gig HD i was wondering if at all possible can i sync some content and stream the rest. Not sure if i have set this up correctly but i cannot achieve both. I have to swap between the synced and streamed and everytime i do this my ATV loses all synced content. If this is achieveable can someone help with setting this up. Thanx in advanced.
Thanx for the quick reply, i have tried this on several occasions but this has not worked. Cant hurt to try again. When you refer to syncing library, this being the one in itunes and from my ATV set it to connect to itunes and once it appears under summary set it to custom sync.

Syncing AND streaming from one computer
I admit, I'm an Apple novice; however, I'm doing my best to catch up! Just got a 40GB ATV for xmas and have synced up all my music but thinking about just streaming my video content. Is there a way to keep all my music synced but stream the video or is it an "all or non" type situation?

I have the same setup (40gb ATV) and have all of my music sync'd and stream all of my video.
You need to select the ATV in your iTunes devices list (on the left hand side). On the "Summary" tab, click the "custom sync" button, and make sure the "show only the sync'd items.." checkbox is empty. On the "Movies" tab, everything should be blank, on the "Music" tab you can choose what you want to sync. Once your ATV has sync'd again, all should be fine.
If you want to avoid a long list of video files, you can create video playlists in iTunes, and then turn on "all" playlists under audio/video settings on the ATV.
Don't forget that to stream, you need your iTunes library open at all times. -
OTA HDTV Recorded, Converted, and Streamed to ATV ... Results!!!
Well, I just tried HD streaming and it worked flawlessly ... although it takes a bit of effort. Here is how I did it ...
1. I recorded an OTA 720p HDTV broadcast using my El Gato Hybrid;
2. I exported the program from EyeTV 2 as a Quicktime 1280x720 HD file;
3. I then opened the exported QT file in Quicktime Pro and exported again again using "Movie to ATV" (I had to do this because the original QT file would not stream);
4. I dropped the converted file in to iTunes, and streamed it to the Apple TV playing on my 44" 720P HDTV.
Final Streamable File Specs: 960 x 540 ... I am not sure why QT Pro converted the original 1280x720 file to the lower res, but it did and the file streamed and looked GREAT.
Results: I must say ... IT LOOKED SPECTACULAR. I am a bit surprised given the low-end specs of the ATV. No dropped frames, no glitches, no hiccups. If they offer HD movies on iTunes, they are going to look GREAT!
The Downside: It took FOREVER to convert the 4 minute HD QT file using QTPro.Just an FYI ... the quality fell somewhere between OTA HDTV quality and DVD quality. I would say just about the same as cable or sat HDTV quality.

I have a Sony radio in my car. With IOS 4 on my IPhone I could use the docking plug to the usb input on the radio and stream ESPN radio or pandora to the radio. After upgrading to IOS 5 on the phone the Sony radio will not recognize the phone . Any thoughts.
I am reading on this site about the error I am getting and it wants me to change some files that I am not comfortable messing with. Mainly because it is like a foreign language. Will the store do this for me or tell me if it is neccessary?

Can I use airport express to extend my network AND stream iTunes???
I have an airport extreme connected to the cable modem and sending a signal out to my home network. I also have a powerbook and an airport express connected to the home stereo.
My question is, can i use the express to extend my extreme signal (to reach the back yard) and stream music from itunes at the same time? The set up utility seems to suggest that you do one or the other.
Thanks!Are you sure you configured the Express to extend the Extreme's network? If you use the standard setup, the two base stations will be indistinguishable, i.e. you'll only see one entry for the wireless network.
If you were connected to the Extreme when you configured the Express, try turning off Airport in the Airport menu and then turning it back on. The computer should pick up the stronger signal at that point. -
i want to hook up a mac mini and us my tv as a monitor. how can I use airplay from my phone on the mac mini like i can with an apple tv (without having to buy an apple tv!). the airplay capabilities i want to use are mirroring and streaming from my iphone!

Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can't, but you have a few alternatives.
Best option: If you made the movie on the DVD in iMovie (or even another editing application) and still have the project, go back to the project and export it for Apple TV (using the Apple TV preset)
Next best option: If you still have the original movie that you put on the DVD, open it in QuickTime and export it for Apple TV (using the Apple TV preset)
Worst option: Use something like Mpegstreamclip (Quicktime Mpeg2 playback component required) to convert the DVD to h264. -

Hello, I have an Iphone 3GS and can't connect to Game Center. It recognizes my apple ID account, states it was never used with Game Center. Then asks for country, birthdate, then returns to ask country again, then birthdate, and returns to the loop. Never ends the loop unless I cancel the setup process. I have restored the iphone to the factory settings and restored the backup, but did not work. Any suggestions on what can be the problem? thank you.
I just read another post that says you can go into a game that allows for multiple players and utalizes game center and enter your account information that way. I haven't tried it yet, but it seems to work for others that had this issue.
