Agentry: Parent Reference from Objects

Hello,
in my data model i have 5 objects. Every object have a parent-child connection over ids. In Agentry there a the collection i use to realize this.
Example: orderGoup -> order -> orderPosition -> orderPositionLocation -> orderPositionLocationContact
For every object i create a single Screen who show some Details. So far so good. In the orderPositionLocationContact screen i need a property value from the order-object. Lets say the createDate from the order. Now i can choose the object browser and select the object parent from the orderPositionLocationContact, the orderPositionLocation, and from this the object parent. So i have the orderPosition. But thats was all. Why is there no ability to select the other parent objects.
Is there a solution how i can get the parent object property over 3 or more hierarchy levels?
Thanks,
André Nehm

Hi Jason,
The answer of your question : "Under the Auftrag object, you can't get to the Parent object AuftragsGruppe?" Thats right. In the case i come from the AuftragsPositionStandort.(Picture 1)
There i can only get the direct parent object.
If i chose direct the Auftrag object i can get the parent object AuftragsGruppe (Picture 2).
Picture 1
Picture 2
I see the different between your and my object hierarchy in the case that you have in the MaterialDokumentItem and MaterialDokument as parent object the MainObject. And the Serial Number have as parent objects the MaterialDokumentItem and MaterialDokument.
I try to paint 2 small pictures to show the different what i mean.

Thanx for your help.

    How do I get an activeX object reference from a LabVIEW ActiveXContainer ref?
    I'm trying to control an ActiveX object (a Web Browser) from another VI and need to get the object reference programmatically. I can get the LabVIEW ActiveXContainer reference, but am lost on how to get the reference for the object _inside_ the container.

    Hi Lee,
    The reference to the container is actually also accessing the object inside the container. Use the Property Node and Invoke Node to access properties and launch methods for the object. I've attached a small example that passes the reference to a SubVI and invokes a method inside the SubVI.

  • How to get caller object reference from a method

    Hi,
    I am working a already existing Java Swing project, now I got a problem, in a method I need to get the caller object reference otherwise, I can't succeed this operation. So please tell me a way how to get the caller object reference from a method. that method would be static or regular method anything will do for me.

Actually I tried Reflection.getcallerclass but there I am getting "CLASS" object not the actual object reference, but I want object reference.
    Actually we have a huge project which is writen plain JAVA, so in this project the authors written the Database connection package for single database transaction. so now we are using this project source code for JSF application in this web application the DB package has serve based on the dynamic db connection parameters, so if we want to change this package fully means need to solve the dependency problem in hundreds of classes, so my point is if I can access the caller object in the DB package when ever it gets called by any class from any where of the project. So actually I liked Reflection.getcallerclass, the way of implementation perfectly works for me but it is not giving caller object reference, if something gives the caller object then I can get the DB connection parameters then there is no need to pass the parameters in the hierarchy.You can add a parameter (of type Object) to your addition() method
    and everywhere you call the addition() method also pass this (which from the POW of the addition() method will be a reference to the calling class instance).
    There may be alternative solutions
    but none that require less effort.

  • Reference HttpServlet object from webservice method ...

    How to reference HttpServlet object from webservice method to access HTTP header?
    Thanks
    Marcel

    You are correct.
    I know that SOAP messages can be send not only via HTTP protocol.
    Our solution is restricted to use only HTTP protocol for communication between client and server by customer, because there is implemented transparent proxy for users authorization and strong security of communication via HTTP protocol. Authorization server transparently modify HTTP request header with user identity (DN from user certificate - with this PKI solution it is not possible to use standard SSL because certificate is proprietary enhanced and cannot be accessed in standard way). That is why I need access HTTP request header.
    Why I want to use webservices? I thing that webservice is flexible and perspective technology for integration and asynchronous communication between web clients and application (it is really more effective add new info in web page asynchronously from webservice than reload whole page).
    Thanks

  • Returning VI reference from control object reference

    I was wondering if there is anything that acts like inverse of "To more specific class" ? I mean it returns the VI reference from a reference to one of its control object? I think it is like moving upward in the hierarchy!!

    You absolutely _do_ have the capability to pass in a
    reference to the parent
    component, or to create a "hard" reference to
    Application.application. But
    these are not recommended practices, because anything you
    create this way is
    then tied to an environment that implements those properties
    and methods.
    Q (3): I want to run a function in my main application from
    inside my
    custom component. But when I try to refer to myFunction() in
    that
    component, I get a compile time error Call to a possibly
    undefined function
    myFunction. How can I fix this?
    A: Your component has its own scope, so it doesn't know
    anything
    about the functions in the main file. You can get around this
    by directly
    referencing the main application scope like this:
    Application.application.myFunction(). However, this makes
    your component
    tightly coupled, which is a quick way of saying that your
    component is only
    usable in an application that has a myFunction() function in
    it. You're
    better off dispatching an event from your component and
    letting the
    application decide how to handle it. For more information,

  • Passing parent reference

    This question is slighty related to another question of mine but is only theoretical:
    If a class can be instanciated from different parents. How does the child distinguish which parent is its?
    Would one set the parents reference in the child once it is created?
    Or can the child find out for itself which parent it belongs to?
    How would you that?
    Thank you for any suggestions.

    OK, that is clear.
    Mind you, after working my way through four +-1000 page books that claim to teach Java and which include the two Sun Java books I & II  I am overwhelmed with the notion that I was ripped off by these and wasted my time. That disappoints me most about the Sun 'novels'.
    One maybe an expert and not consider a JPane to be a child of a parent JPane, but the books are less strict. The principle of inheritance is systematically and consistently shown using JPanes in JFrames and other examplary hierarchical stuff. That a JPane within a JFrame has nothing to do with inheritance is a different matter.
    It is a Pavlov reaction that molds the learning brain into accepting that OO is the same as the demonstrated (suffocating) hierarchy.
    A 'component' in my 'uneducated world' can easily be part of an 'object'. (My car is built from thousands of components.) As 'components' are interwoven with the 'display concept' I consider both a component and a JPane to be objects, somehow hierarchaly related to one another.
    Only today I find myself to be given some clear answers on this forum (Swing). Asking my questions in the newbie section only gave me answers directing me to 'cardlayout', not answering my real questions (which in itself is not a problem, any answer pleases me - because I might be a fool unknowingly:).
    So if you would build any 'industrial' application and could change the name/address of a client in one part of the system or change the name/address of a supplier in another part of the system, you might like to know within the name/address -change-panel where 'you the child' would be offspring of as you might need to do something 'additional'. It might be bad code but not every mission to the moon was succesful either - and the need for it might spring from a 'maintenance request' after implementation (prohibiting redesign).
    Now honest to me I wouldn't know whether this is Swing or not. Interestingly, i just learned, I might get parent information if it is Swing (however the parent information may only refer to any "outer pane/frame/window" - haven't looked into that one yet- not a/the 'super' object).
    I understand that contrary to what the books tell me, the more practical code creates panels within panels (within panels etc) from one 'underlying' code base. Not the model the books teach: define/instanciate a class (fi JFrame) within one instanciates a new class (within ...) which happens to define a JPanel with an actionListener and a button to change some color. Handling events completely without refering 'outwards' within the class.
    With the first, more practical code, one needs to 'decouple the events' -the looser the better?
    Interestingly that looks a lot less like Java (as I 'know it') and lot more like the 'usual' win32 api or mac os x carbon 'event handling (put up some windows ... go wait (at one spot) and catch the incoming events - of course, for as far as I have read about these and comprehended it) and which gives me a stronger "I can handle that" feeling.
    Anyway, that was just all to clarify myself (and show disgust for my books).
    May I ask you what forum you would suggest me for these 'coupling' questions?
    And thank you for your clear answers, there is a lot of knowledge behind every one of them.

  • Cross Reference an Object??

    How do I cross reference an object using Indesign CS4?
    I've got a PDF that I've dropped into a frame, which I applied an Object Style.  Now I need to create a cross references in the document, that point to the PDF (a chart).  I've got to do this with several PDF's.
    When I go to create a cross reference, I can only apply it a Paragraph Style or a Text Anchor, I don't get an Object Style to choose from.
    I could put some text in behind the chart, and arrage the chart to the front, but i'd rather create a cross reference to the Object itself.
    What do i do?

    Cross-references only point to text - either a text anchor or a paragraph - not to objects.
    If your placed PDF is in an anchored frame, you can point the cross-reference to the paragraph in which the frame is anchored.
    If your placed PDF is not in an anchored frame, you can do what you suggest above, or you have these other options:
    * place the PDF into a text frame
    * create a text frame and group it with the PDF; point the cross-reference to the paragraph in the text frame, or insert a text anchor in the text and point the cross-reference to it.
    * you can paste the grouped PDF and text frame object into a text frame to make it an anchored frame.
    The idea of a cross-reference is usually to point to a caption or heading. You can't point to the text in a placed PDF because it's really a graphic. You'll probably want a caption to identify the chart. The caption is the text you cross-reference to. The caption can be in the paragraph that holds the anchor, in a text frame grouped with the graphic, in a paragraph above or below the graphic, or in an anchored frame that's positioned near the graphic.
    If your layout will not reflow, you probably don't need an anchored frame, but if the layout will reflow, you'll want to use the ability of an anchored to move with the text.
    Read about cross-references and anchored frames in Help. If your caption will be numbered, such as "Figure 3," also read about numbered lists and numbering properties of paragraph styles.

    how i can insert in nested table reference of object
    thanks

    your table "bom_table" is not an object table or view, and thus you can't create object references to it's rows. you'll need to create an object table or view of "bom" objects, with a corresponding object identifier, and then reference that table/view in your subquery instead.

  • While using data pump (impdp) how to rename references within objects?

    using 10g;
    what i want to accomplish is to change schema & tablespace ownership using the data pump method via the command line; i have had success using the command line for expdp / impdp. Problem is that there are objects that reference the old schemas that DO NOT get updated (e.g. procedure may reference usr1.table1 in the PL/SQL statement) and this is where i have been UN-successfull). Anyone know of a way to change references from old schema to new schama name in objects(procedures, views, etc) via the command line?
    this is what i currently use that works to change schema, tablespace, but will not change references within my objects;
    expdp system/<pass> schemas=usr1,usr2 DIRECTORY=dp_dir DUMPFILE=dataPump_BothSchemas.dmp LOGFILE=expdpAllSchema.log parallel=2
    impdp system/<pass> DIRECTORY=dp_dir DUMPFILE=dataPump_BothSchemas.dmp LOGFILE=impbothSchToEE.log remap_schema=usr1:newUsr1,usr2:newUsr2 remap_tablespace=old_ts_tables:new_ts_tables full=y
    Thanks!
    p.s. I have acomplished this using the enterprise manager.

    (e.g. procedure may reference usr1.table1 in the PL/SQL statement) If you hard coded such reference in stored procedure, you have to manually correct them. Consider use synonym if your storage procedure referencing other schema's objects.

  • Calling a Function in the Parent Window from the Child Window

    QUESTION: How do I call a function resident in the parent
    window from a child window?
    BACKGROUND
    I have a JavaScript function resident in the parent window
    that reformats information obtained from the Date object and writes
    the result to the parent window using the document.write( ) method.
    I would like to call this function from the child window and have
    it write to the child window instead. Is this possible? If not,
    must I rewrite the entire function and nest it in the below code?
    If so, what is the proper form of nesting?
    CODE: The code that creates and fills the child window is
    provided below. The highlighted area indicates where I would like
    to enter the information from the function resident in the parent
    window. I have tried every imaginable permutation of code that I
    can imagine and nearly destroyed my parent document in the process.
    I am very happy that I had a back-up copy!
    function openCitationWindow() {
    ciDow = window.open("", "", "width=450, height=175, top=300,
    left=300");
    ciDow.document.write("A proper way to cite a passage of text
    on this page:<br /><br />Stegemann, R. A. 2000.
    <cite>Imagine: Bridging a Historical Gap</cite>. " +
    document.title + ". [<a href='" + location.href + "'
    target='_blank'>online book</a>] &lt;" + location.href
    + "&gt; (");
    MISSING CODE;
    ciDow.document.write(").<br /><br /><input
    type='button' value='Close Window' onclick='window.close()'>");
    ciDow.focus();

    Never mind - I was doing something very stupid and wasn't
    calling the function as a method of a movie clip. I was simply
    calling checkTarget(event) rather than
    event.currentTarget.checkTarget(event); which seems to work.

  • Is it possible in java to pass reference of object in Java?

    Hello,
    I'm relativily new to Java but I have "solid" knowledge in C+ and C# .NET+.
    Is it possible in java to pass reference of object in Java? I read some articles about weakreferences, softreferences, etc. but it seems that it's not what I'm looking for.
    Here is a little piece of code I wrote:
    package Software;
    import java.util.Random;
    * @author Rodrigue
    public class RandomText
        private Random rand = new Random();
        private Thread t;
        private String rText = "Rodrigue";
        public RandomText()
            t = new Thread()
                @Override
                public void run()
                    try
                        while(true)
                            UpdateText();
                            sleep(100);
                    catch(InterruptedException ex)
            t.start();
        private void UpdateText()
            int i = rand.nextInt();
            synchronized (rText)
                rText = String.valueOf(i);
        public String GetText()
            return rText;
    }It's just a class which start a thread. This class updates a text with a random integer 10 times per second.
    I would like to get a reference on the String rText (like in C++ ;) yes I know, I must think in Java :D). So, like that, I could get one time the reference, thanks to the GetText function, and update the text when my application will repaint. Otherwise, I always have to call the GetText method ... which is slow, no?
    Are objects passed by reference in java? Or, my string is duplicated each time?
    Thank you very much in advance!

    Ok, "Everything in Java is passed by value. Objects, however, are never passed at all.". Reference of object is passed by value too.
    But, how to solve my problem in Java_? I have an object which is continually modified in a thread. From an another side, this object is continually repainted in a form.I'm not sure I totally understand your problem. If you pass a reference to an object, then both the caller and the method point to the same object. Changing the internal state of the object (e.g. by calling a setter method) through one reference will be observed through both references, since they both point to the same object.
    No, calling a method is not particularly slow. Especially if it's just a simple getter method that returns the value of a member variable.
    If this is happening in a multithreaded context, you'll have to use proper synchronization to ensure that each thread sees the others' changes.

  • Nifty tip:  How to get display container parent references to compile. (AS3)

    Hello,
    I appreciate the help I've received in this forum and wanted
    to give back a little bit (am not familiar enough with AS3 yet to
    answer questions).
    Today I encountered a tricky problem in referencing a parent
    container. The class structure was something like this:
    class wrapper extends Sprite {
    function wrapper() {
    var displayChild = new displayChild();
    addChild( displayChild );
    function parentFunction() {
    //Code here
    class displayChild {
    function childFunction() {
    parent.parentFunction();
    This code compiled and ran properly in standard mode. The
    problem was that this type of structure wouldn't compile in strict
    mode. It gave an error:
    1061: Call to a possibly undefined method parentFunction
    through a reference with static type
    flash.display:DisplayObjectContainer.
    The fix was to reference the parent like this:
    function childFunction() {
    var parentObj = parent;
    parentObj.parentFunction();
    However after putting this fix into three or four functions I
    decided to make parentObj a global. Believe it or not, the
    following wouldn't compile:
    class displayChild {
    var parentObj = parent;
    In other words, the compiler would only accept the fix if the
    parentObj reference was in a function.
    Why would this be? Any takers?
    It turns out that the parent object doesn't exist until the
    constructor has completed running. We encountered this in Flash MX
    when using embedded movie clips too. A movie clip or any display
    object (in AS3) doesn't exist until it is completely loaded. If it
    doesn't exist it doesn't have a parent. So the parent reference is
    invalid at compile time. It is only valid at runtime. When we call
    a function at runtime, the parent exists so we can assign it to
    parentObj and use it to call the parent.
    Luckily the compiler is forgiving enough to allow the
    statement:
    var parentObj = parent;
    even though parent is undefined. But of course the compiler
    has to allow this, otherwise it wouldn't allow us to assign any
    undefined values to a variable.
    Hope this is helpful to someone!
    Cheers,
    Mark

    Group2 - FlowLayout, colSpan=1, width=100%.
