AIR for Android - see only white screen

I want deploy my AIR application on Android device (created by Flash Builder) - but I see only white screen on Android-device.
In development environment - I install Flex 4.6 with upgrade it to AIR 3.7
In Android I install current AIR envirenment fom Google Play
I create this HelloWord minimal application:
Android3.mxml:

<s:WindowedApplication xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" width="369" height="90">
<fx:Script>

protected function button1_clickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void
txt1.text="OK"

</fx:Script>
<fx:Declarations>

</fx:Declarations>
<s:Button x="200" y="30" label="GO" click="button1_clickHandler(event)"/>
<s:TextInput x="34" y="30" width="158" id="txt1"/>
</s:WindowedApplication>
Android3-app.xml:

<application xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/3.1">

<filename>Android3</filename>

<versionNumber>1.0.0</versionNumber>
<initialWindow>

[This value will be overwritten by Flash Builder in the output app.xml]

</initialWindow>
</application>
This HelloWord application working perfectly on Windows and Linux environment
Then I packet APK-packet:
adt -package -target apk -storetype pkcs12 -keystore CERTIFICATE.p12 Android3.apk Android3-app.xml Android3.swf
I show warning message:
Warning: Application has not specifiad its permission requirements in application.xml
NOTE:The AIR SDK no longer support packaging android application for use with the shared Runtime
The application has been packaged with a capture Runtime
But when I start my HelloWord-application on Android-device - I see only white screen.
Whats wrong?

Okay. I've found an answer:
yes, you can and have to add these icons via the descriptor file, since flash wont let you. But before you do that, go into the "Air publish" settings in flash. Here, right on page 1, there is the "include files" section. Add your icon pngs there. Hit OK and exit these settings. Now open the descriptor with an editor outside of flash and write in the files like I posted above. Close. Save. Make it write protected. No go to flash and publish.

• Video preview not working, I can see only white screen.

Hello, I have been using Adobe Premiere on my Vista64 for a while, but few days ago I started having problems with previewing video. I can see only white screen, which doesnt react on anything I do in premiere (trying to preview movie, add grids etc.) I tried to reinstall many times but only thing I managed after one reinstall was that it started showing me what is on the timeline when I clicked on a timeline, but when I wanted to play preview it was frozen and then it turned white again. Since that it is still white.
Playback in other adobe programs (such as After Effects) works fine on my computer.
Would you please help me to find out what causes this problem and how to fix it? (I doubt it is codecs because it worked fine before and then it suddenly stopped working without any change in codecs...)

It may or may not be possible to verify the usage of such a technology device. And where did you get the idea that it costs $10 to manufacture and sell an iPad? I think the parts cost alone was $260, not counting manufacturing, shipping, storage, retail space, salespersons, helpdesk support, all the other overhead costs, etc. etc.
With so many people out there trying to scam the system, it will be an uphill battle to try to convince anyone that you bought it and didn't open the box for 14 months. That's very unusual.
At some point, the store you bought something from (in this case it was Apple) has to say no. What if it had been unopened for 2 years, or five years, or 20 years? This is what the warranty period is all about. It starts on the day you buy it and ends at the end of the warranty period, regardless of usage.
I am sympathetic to your plight but if you are able to get a new iPad (refurbished would be more likely), it will be through the kindness of Apple going above and beyond. If you do not get one, it is not Apple's fault you waited this long and there is no requirement for them to replace it.

• AIR for Android maximum screen size?

Hey folks!
Sorry if this question was already made here, but I couldn't find. Does anyone know if AIR for Android has a maximum screen size for apps? I have this app developed for 1080p resolution, and my device (CS918 with Rockchip RK3188) is set to 1080p as well. But when I run it through FlashDevelop debug, it downsizes to 720p, still showing in fullscreen. My AIR is version 14.0.
Maybe it's my device, but since I don't have any other Android devices to test, I can't tell yet.
Thank you.

Thanks for letting me know! Here's the main thing I said:
What you say about fullscreen isn’t correct. That just dictates whether the status bar is showing or not.
The thing that controls how the stage is scaled is stage.scaleMode. The default value is “showAll”, and under that the stage will scale up so that either the height of the stage fills the height of the dvcid, or the width fills the width, depending on the ratio of the stage and the device.
“noBorder” is another useful mode. You could design a 14:9 stage and have content near the edges that isn’t vital. The stage would then scale to fill the screen, but would allow some content to go off the edges. It’s easy to support a range of devices, from 4:3 to 16:9, with that single 14:9 stage.
Some people use “noScale”, and then do all the mathematics themselves to get the contents of the stage to scale correctly. I just let Flash do that for me!
What moonlight says about calculating the pixels that are visible on a given device is true, and useful. Here’s my function for finding out where the top of the stage falls on the current device:
private static var landscapewidth:int = Math.max(Capabilities.screenResolutionX,Capabilities.screenResolutionY);
private static var landscapeheight:int = Math.min(Capabilities.screenResolutionX,Capabilities.screenResolutionY);
public static function landscapeTopEdge(thestage:Stage){
return thestage.stageHeight * .5 - (thestage.stageWidth / landscapewidth * landscapeheight) * .5;
Because I pass in the stage to the function I can use its width and height as part of the calculation. That saves hard coding it for a particular stage size.
It’s a static function because I have it in a class with other device utilities. I would call it like this:
var topedge: Number = DeviceUtils.landscapeTopEdge(this.stage);

• Air For Android - Full Screen not working

Opened CS5.5 > Chose "Air For Android" which gave me a stage dimension of 480x800 default. I then created my app.
I am using a Droid Bionic and testing my app on it. It will not go to full screen, regardless of how I am holding the Droid. When publishing, I clicked "Full Screen" and Portrait, Landscape, Auto Orientation, etc. I tried all of the publishing options, yet still there is white screen on the eastern and southern side of the screen.
I have a picture on the main screen, and it fits perfectly within the 480x800 dimmensions when playing in Flash. After publishing to an APK file and testing it on Droid, I have that white space as mentioned, as if the stage size grew larger than the picture / app. I also shrank the stage(480x800) dimensions to to (340x600) , but still the same amount of white space. When I move the picture to the right a bit, and publish, it shows the white space on the left hand side of the stage. This can only mean that when I publish, the stage size grows but everything on the stage stays the same.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

I removed:
stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
from AS3 and it works better. Now there is even white space on the north and south side of the screen. Clicking "Full Screen" in the publish settings, makes a little more white space, which is weird. It as if now the stage is expanding its height, rather than its height and width due to me using the above code. Still, would like to get rid of that extra white space.
Edit: It looks like the stage height grew by 60. If I expand the picture by 60, placing it on the stage at 0x and -30y, it fits fine on the bionic. I don't understand why this is happening, and scared that it may be different for each device.

• Air for Android app just a black blank screen on emulator.

Greetings,
I'm starting android app development using air for android and I'm encountering the same problem as in this discussion, http://forums.adobe.com/message/4343423.
Followed all the suggested solutions on the above link and nothing is working for me.
Before I started air for android development, I upgraded my air sdk from 2.6 to 3.2, I overlayed the AIR 3.2 SDK in flash following the instructions on this link http://www.flashdeveloper.co/post/20583114199/air32-in-flash-cs-55.
Published my first air for android test app (a simple test app to test swipe gestures) and installed the .apk on the emulator using the command line. When I launched the app on the emulator, it says Adobe AIR runtime is required so I installed the AIR runtime on the emulator using this tutorial http://renaun.com/blog/2010/12/finding-the-air-for-android-emulator-runtime/.
When I thought everything will now work as expected then this problem came up. What do you think is the problem here?
I'm using flash pro cs5.5 on windows 7 64-bit.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks,
Randy

Hi guys, any ideas?

• Partial wakelock in Adobe Air for Android

I'm developing Adobe Air (for Android) application which is intended to be constantly on. App has event based operations. However, when phone enters to sleep mode app is able to perform only one or few events in a second which is not good enough. AIR's SystemIdleMode.KEEP_AWAKE -mode is not an alternative since it is too battery consuming.
I'm looking for a solution where phone is allowed to go into sleep mode (screen is off) but still CPU performance is not drastically dropped. Not sure if Android's partial wakelock -mode does the job and is available via ANE?

Well Im a bit puzzled now. I just created a quick AIR app using AIR13 for Android and did a DEACTIVATE test on the NativeApplication.nativeApplication property and used a TextField to "trace" out the frame rate when the app deactivated. The frame rate stayed at 24FPS the entire time. I turned the screen off, let it turn off, went to the home screen, and switched to other apps while the test app was still running. In all cases, the frame rate never dropped to 4FPS as indicated in Adobe's documentation. So it is either something a bug or feature of AIR13+ or it is how Android KitKat handles applications in the background. Im using an unlocked/stock Moto X running Android 4.4.3. The app also appends the getTimer() call to the end so you can see that it does change. Here is a link to the quick app I created: Dropbox - deactivate.apk
I guess if you want to download that and test it out to see how it behaves on your device and let me know the results. What device and OS are you running?
Below is the original message I started to type before I decided to create a quick app to test with. It may or may not still be relevant based on your results from my app test.
If you are looking at just recording information, you could probably setup something on the Android/Java side that gets started when the app "sleeps" using the DEACTIVE event as a trigger to start the ANE side of things. Then when your app "wakes", you could use the ACTIVATE event to trigger a call to the ANE to pull all the data collected in the Java side back to AIR and stop the ANE data capture since the data capture would be back to being handled by AIR.

• How can I use a file in flash cs6 that I made in flash cs5.5 air for android

I have made an app in in air for android in flash cs5.5 air for android, and I want to edit it in cs6 and play it in cs6.
But if I put Ctrl+Enter I got an error: createWin process failed with error 2: system couldn't find the file. I think the problem is that I'am using air for android 2.6 version in flash cs5.5 and version 3.2 in flash cs6. I have searched the web and found out that you can add older air versions using the sdk manager and I have tried it but first I get the error that the version of the sdk I am trying to install is not valid and after some files that I added to the sdk folder I get this error:Only SDK higher than version 3.4.2540 may be added.
I there a possible way to update the air for android for an fla or apk? Or how can I let my originally file work fine in flash cs6??

system couldn't find the file
If you can´t get a more specific hint why your project can´t compile then I can think of some reasons theis error might occur
1.You had files included besides the swf, like videos, audio files, xml files, that are not present in the place air expects them to be
2.somewhere in your createWin functions there is a class import needed that isn`t present in 3.2 anymore, for example some classes or functions from classes that were valid in 2.6 are not any more in 3.2
3. to achieve better eror logging, allow for debugging in the publishing options and see what specific lines in your code throw the error
4.any air app needs a cert file, this needs to be created once, if you migrated to e new system it might be you never created that file which air expects to even begin the compiling process
once you isolate the problem, report back

• My IPad Air is frozen with a white screen and Apple Logo on it.

My Ipad Air is frozen with the white screen and apple logo. I've tried resetting it several times and that doesn't help. I tried connecting to ITunes, but it isn't recognizing the device.
The battery is fully charged, at least for now, so I am not sure what else to try.

FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...
Note:
1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
3. Repeat the process if necessary.

• Why is debugging an AIR for Android on device via USB so awful?

I've used Flash 8, Flash Pro CS4, CS5, CS5.5, and now CS6 and I have to say when it comes to debugging it is absolutely the worst environment I've ever worked in. Over the years the number of times I've successfully debugged an application can be counted on one hand. Really, its that bad. Flash will crash or stop responding. I place a breakpoint in the code and Flash will either: A) Ignore it, B) "Breakpoint not set; No executable code at line ###" C) Crash and burn. D) breakpoint turns on but can never be turned off.
Its infuriating and maddening. After this much time why can't Adobe make the debugger work?
Frankly, because of this I have to write ALOT of trace statements into my code.
Has Adobe just given up on the debugger in Flash Pro? As a developer should I be trying to convince my company to switch over to Flash Builder?
For example, right now I'm trying to debug an AIR for Android 3.4.0.2540 via USB on a Motorola Droid 2. I can publish and run in debug mode and see all my trace statements just fine. But I know the instant I need to try to set a breakpoint I'm doomed. Or if my code gets in a race condition like right now. The breakpoints in the new code I added were ignored (see B above) and I can find no options in the Debug menu to break into my app and observe what code it is currently executing. My only option is to end the debug session.
Can anyone comment on debugging in Flash Builder vs. Flash Pro? Is it any better?
Can anyone suggest a solid development environement with debugging that supports Actionscript 3 or can compile it to some other language or object code that would allow me to reliably debug code?
I'm sorry for venting like this. I like Actionscript 3 and I even like Flash Pro until it comes to debugging. But at this point I really need to consider other options so I can get some work done.

Hi Chris,
I also have an HTC Legend, and I'm trying to make some tutorials about publishing from Flash Builder to Android.
I've notice this also, and I must say, it's a complete deception that AIR cannot support this phone, and certainly it seems that upgrading to the Android 2.2 was a bad option, since I defenitly was able to make a simple flash game, and some other exeperiments, and got them to work with AIR when this phone had Android 2.1
If it runs on Android 2.1, maybe it was a an upgrade that make AIR incompatible with this device on Android 2.2. Is there any way of running it, maybe forcing to install a AIR version that works.
I was starting to program on Flash Builder, and experimenting on my Legend, but now I stumbled on this.
Thanks,
Leonel

• Air for Android Extremely Slow...

Hey everybody,
Hopefully some of you have been trying the prerelease of Air for Android like myself. Its all great and easy peasy to export the apps to my phone but it seems to be ridiculously slow even for seemingly simple scripts.
This is what i'm trying to run at the moment and the app times out before it gets running (All the apps do get running eventually but only after the time out timer could have run over multiple times).
import flash.display.Shape;
import flash.events.Event;
import flash.sensors.Accelerometer;
import flash.events.AccelerometerEvent;
var vx:Number = 0;
var vy:Number = 0;
var s:Shape = new Shape;
s.x = stage.stageWidth/2;
s.y = stage.stageHeight/2;
with (s.graphics)
lineStyle(3,0);
drawCircle(0,0,5);
addChild(s);
var accel:Accelerometer = new Accelerometer();
addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, onFrameLoop);
accel.addEventListener(AccelerometerEvent.UPDATE, onAccelEvent);
function onAccelEvent (evt:AccelerometerEvent):void
vx += evt.accelerationX;
vy += evt.accelerationY;
function onFrameLoop (evt:Event):void
s.x = Math.round(s.x + vx);
s.y = Math.round(s.y + vy);
From what I can see theres nothing actually wrong with the code from what I can see but it just takes so frickin' long to load. If I make an app with some equally simple animations it loads almost instantly. I am aware that this is only a prerelease version of the software and the documentation does say that hardware acceleration has not been added yet but whenever I watch the videos up on youtube of the Adobe team making amazing apps with obviously buckets of script running smoothly on their phone I get annoyed
P.S The processor on my phone isn't the problem either (Nexus One Eclair )

If you are deploying for iPhone it is on the 'general' settings(First setting page opened).
Just noticed you are making android app but i still added iphone deployment settings for further future
But if you are using it for flash/android you have to add code into your fla descriptor with XML language(dont worry it is 1 line of code)
Watch the video on this page about GPU rendering:
http://blogs.adobe.com/cantrell/archives/2010/10/gpu-rendering-in-adobe-air-for-android.ht ml
Your app shouldn't lag after these steps but if you have a project that gets bigger and has lots of code it MIGHT lag so that is when external files should help.

• AIR for Android App - Video Issue

Hi all,
I've developed a Air for Android application targeted specifically for Samsung N 800.
There is a section in the application that has a list of Thumbnails and the user can click on any thumbnail and Play appropriate video.
When playing the video, there is a Close button and Next / Back buttons available on the screen to handle respective actions.
The issue with the app is that, when the Video is playing, if I hit the Home button available on the Tablet, the app minimises. Now if I maximize the app from the System Tray or reopen the App from the Menu, the video continues to play, but this time the Video overlaps the Close and Next / Back, so the user is not able to close the video what so ever.
The same issue occurs when I access any of the buttons available on the Tablets system bar on the bottom of the screen.
Any help will be much appreciated

I'm not sure if I completely understand you, but if I do, you want to check the Exif info to see how the image is oriented, then rotate it to show it how you want on the screen. Take a look at this post here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/875157 it may help with doing what you need. It's a little tricky and works differently for iOS and Android, but not too hard to figure out. Also, in the future, you may have more luck getting some decent answers by posting in this forum: http://forums.adobe.com/community/air/development/mobile?view=discussions

• Flash cs5.5 FLVplayback Encoding Problems with Air for Android

Dear All,
I'm trying to play flv in my air application by using FLV playback in flash cs5.5.
I can play flv in the pc but not on the samsung galaxy tab andriod platform.
if anyone out there has tried out FLV playback with either an Air For Android application, where the FLV files are packaged within the app, or either streaming via normal http//:, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

First disable autoplay. It gave errors for me. Try to make the movie play with the play() command.
to embed the movie in your air bundle, just go to publish settings for your flash project. Then in that screen go to the player settings.
In the first GENERAL tab you'll see a the bottom that you can add files to your project
Propably there is allready your .swf and an .xml file in there.
Using the + icon you can add your video.
Make sure that your video is in the same directory as your . FLA file and you can use it as is (by name)
If for example your flashfile is in c:\mytest\mytest.fla and the video in c:\mytest\videos\myvideo.flv , then you will have to load your video as "videos/myvideo.flv" with a FORWARD slash, never use \
Good luck

• AIR for Android Captive Runtime

Is it possible to package android apps with AIR (or will it be) using Flash CS5.5? I don't see anything on the web about. Just how to do it with Flex and ADT etc...

Hi,
I've made a complete working example for publishing an application with captive runtime, assets and native extensions starting from Flash CS5.5
I was able to make it thanks to hints and suggestions I found in this thread.
Note: english is not my native tongue so I hope you understand what I've written also if sometime it sounds "engrish".
Here it is the link to the zip file:
http://www.genereavventura.com/hosted/Air3NativeExtensions/AirVibrate.zip
Requirements:
- You must have Flash cs5.5 pro (obviously)
- You must have installed the overlay for Air3.0 sdk on your Flash cs5.5 pro
Here it is a link that explain how to accomplish it: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3939712
Here the steps I made.
1) Open Flash CS5.5 and create a new AIR for Android application
2) Add the swc to the libraries used by your FLA (open Actionscript 3.0 settings and add "VibrationActionScriptLibrary.swc")
Btw, you can find this "ready to use" native extension inside the zipfile that you can download from here: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/native-extensions-for-air/extensions/vibration.html
However in my example you will find also a directory named "extension" that contains it.
3) Open and then close the "air for android settings": by doing this Flash will create yourapp-app.xml file in the directory where your FLA resides.
For example my fla is named "vibrate.fla" so Flash created for me a "vibrate-app.xml" file.
4) Make a copy of this "vibrate-app.xml" file by naming it "real-vibrate-app.xml" (or choose whatever name you want)
I've done this because after modyfing the original one by adding the <extension> tag (see below) I wasn't able to test my app from within Flash IDE (when I compile it it simply doesn't start)
Instead by doing this all worked fine.
5) Edit the "real-vibrate-app.xml" file by adding somewhere these lines (I added it just before the <initialWindow> tag)
<extensions>
<extensionID>com.adobe.Vibration</extensionID>
</extensions>
6) Add <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.VIBRATE"/> in the <android> <manifestAdditions> part in "real-vibrate-app.xml" file.
You should do something like this:
<android>
<manifestAdditions>
<manifest>
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.VIBRATE"/>
</manifest>
</manifestAdditions>
</android>
7) Develop your application
I made a simple one that loads an external jpg and shows it on the stage: then the user can tap on it to make the phone vibrate.
The function "doVibration" is called only when the app is running on Android Device so I do not get any executions error when I run the app from within Flash Ide
8) Publish and test it to your USB connected device by launching the "publish.bat" file I have created
Open a dos prompt and move to your project directory then type publish.bat and press enter.
Note: it can be that you have to edit the bat file in order to change the path to the ADT tool that comes with Air3.0 sdk
It should be in [your adobe flash cs5.5 directory]\AIR2.6\bin\adt (rememeber, you must have installed the Air3.0 sdk overlying the old Air2.6/2.7 in the AIR2.6 directory)
Inside the bat file you can change easily the target type (captive or not) simply by commenting/decommenting the right line.
Captive version is about 8Mb more than the normal one but the big deal is that the user that installs it do not need the air runtime installed on his phone!
The "big line" that creates the package is the following one:
call %ADT_LINK% -package -target %TARGET_TYPE% -storetype pkcs12 -keystore certificate/vibrate.p12 -storepass android AirVibrate.apk real-vibrate-app.xml -extdir extensions vibrate.swf icons assets
where:
call %ADT_LINK% it's just the path to the ADT tool
-package it's the command that we want ADT to execute
-target %TARGET_TYPE%    captive/non captive version
-storetype pkcs12        certificate related
-keystore certificate/vibrate.p12 path to your self signed certificate
-storepass android certificate related, I created the example certificate with "android" password and this parameters tell ADT to always use it without prompting
AirVibrate.apk the name of the Apk
real-vibrate-app.xml the apk-xml to use that is the one we modified manually above
-extdir extensions it's the path to the directory that contains the native extension
vibrate.swf              the main swf
icons                    the icons directory
assets the assets directory (where I put the external jpg)
That's all.
If everything is correct, the batch file creates the AirVibrate.apk then installs it on your attached usb device and run it.
When you tap over the Android image that will appear, your phone should vibrate.
Now.. does someone wants to develop a Native Extension to show Admob banners in our Android Air Applications?
If I missed something, please let me know.
Thanks
