AIR HTML/JavaScript becomes Slower / Sleep with time

Hi,
This strange behavior is observed on the 2 applications I tryed.
I've developped WikiDrop (http://wikidrop.encausse.net) a really basic TextEditor for DropBox.
- Build with Air 2.6
- Use HTML/JS API
- Used on Windows Vista
The application is launch for a long time waiting on a given computer.
Strange Behaviors:
- After couple of hours, displaying the main window seems to "wake up" webkit like if it was sleeping. It hang a little bit, or si slow.
- When editig few lines of text the TextArea seems to be "slow" it's not fluid like it could be on Chrome.
=> I do not setup complexe event handler.
=> I do not have listener or keystroke on TextArea.
Question:
- Is there known memory leaks with HTML/JS API ?
- Is there a Sleep/WakeUp mechanism on Adobe AIR ?
- Is there setup/parameters to improve performances ?
- Is there known issues about TextArea ? And workaround ?
- May be conflicting application ? (I know Vista is bad)
I've seens on this forum question about edition on large text file or many images but my use is really basic: only few lines of text. I got the same kind of issues with a little chat application. Text type in textarea for chat was sooo slow.
Best Regards,
Jp

  • Bug in navigateToURL? (AIR HTML/JavaScript) window name parameter not working

    Hi,
    I have to popup the default browser from a HTML/JavaScript application.
    All links on the Air page should be opened in the same tab in the same browser window that was opened by the first click on a link.
    The code I use is
    var urlString = "http://www.adobe.com";
    var request = new air.URLRequest(urlString);
    air.navigateToURL(request, "myNewWindow");
    The myNewWindow parameter does not seem to be taken into account:  a new tab is opened on every click.
    I created a new Air application in Aptana and added the following straightforward code to it:
    <html>
        <head>
            <title>navigateToURLTest</title>
            <script type="text/javascript" src="lib/air/AIRAliases.js"></script>
        </head>
        <body>
    <a href="http://www.google.com"
                onclick="javascript:air.navigateToURL(new air.URLRequest('http://www.adobe.com'), 'AirTestWindow');return false;">New Tab</a>
            <br />
            <a href="http://www.adobe.com"
                onclick="javascript:air.navigateToURL(new air.URLRequest('http://www.adobe.com'), 'AirTestWindow');return false;">Same Tab</a>
        </body>
    </html>
    Same problem.
    Does anyone have any idea?
    Thanks

    Is there really nobody who can answer or at least try to reproduce this?
    It's just creating a new Air HTML/Javascript application with one link with a named window target!

  • How to connect my new MacBook Air to a LaCie hard disk with TIme Capsule backup from my old Imac? LaCie has USB 2.0, FireWire and eSata ports.

    How can I connect my new MacBook Air to a LaCie hard disk with TIme Capsule backup from my old Imac? LaCie has USB 2.0, FireWire and eSata ports.

    You can direct connect your MBA to the LaCie via USB 2 cable.  If you have an Apple Airport Router you can USB connect the LaCie drive to the router and then use Airport Utility to configure it.  Time Machine can access it either way.

  • Lightroom 4 becomes slow again with 4.2

    Photography is my hobby and not my job. So I don't want to spend a lot of money to treat my raw files: I prefer to spend my money in camera and and lenses.
    I've got an old computer like this one and I don't want to change it immediately.
    Version de Lightroom : 4.2 [850741]
    Système d'exploitation : Windows Vista Home Edition Service Pack 2 (Build 6002)
    Version : 6.0 [6002]
    Architecture de l'application : x86
    Architecture du système : x86
    Nombre de processeurs physiques : 4
    Vitesse du processeur : 2,4 Ghz
    Mémoire intégrée : 3325,5 Mo
    Mémoire réelle disponible pour Lightroom : 716,8 Mo
    Mémoire réelle utilisée par Lightroom : 451,1 Mo (62,9%)
    Mémoire virtuelle utilisée par Lightroom : 489,3 Mo
    Taille de la mémoire cache : 0,0 Mo
    Paramètre PPP du système : 96 PPP
    Composition sur le Bureau activée: Non
    Affichages : 1) 1280x1024
    This computer is 4 years old but in accordance with lightroom's specification.
    I used it with Lightroom 3. Sometimes it was slow but it wasn't a problem.
    I tested lightroom 4.0. It was unusable with it.
    With lightroom 4.1, there was no problem. So I decided to buy it.
    With Lightroom 4.2, problems come again. I remove the old preferences files, optimize my computer (my computer is dedicated to lightroom, no other software runs during photo treatment).
    It's always the same. Lightroom runs at a good speed and slow ten minutes after opening (and freeze sometimes).
    Please Adobe do your job!!! You take our money and nothing progress. We can't wait like that. If we need to find a solution and optimize our computer by ourself, the best solution is to switch to an other software.
    That's the first time that I write something in a forum like that. I decided to do that because I'm very angry to spend so much time to treat my raw files. I prefer to spend my time (and money) with my camera...

    Just another opinion.......
    I have been using Lightroom (all versions) for many years now. I am currently on lr 4.2 along with Photoshop CS6 standard.
    I use a Windows Ultimate 64 bit dual xeon 2.6 processor using 12GB RAM And a 1GB ASUSGTX550 Ti graphics card. RAID disks and separate disk as a scratch disk.
    I work primarily with Canon EOS 5d MKII raw files. 21MB each. I make colour corrections in LR then use photoshop for more creative enhancements.
    For the most part my experience with Adobe software is a positive one. For me moving from LR 3 to 4 I noticed a performance drop in the software. However I rationalised this against the software could do more. I cam sympathise with some of the other posters as areas of decreased performance for me are:
    Slower 1:1 Renders
    Slower export of JPGs. (Although I've noticed the more enhancements I make in Develop mode, the slower the export time)
    latency when making adjustments
    As a submitter of stock libraries, the performance decrease is an incovenience but not a show stopper and doesnt impact my workflow to heavily.
    Interestingly Ive noticed the performance of CS6 increased for me when I upgraded. Ive watched a lot of Adobe/Linda tutorials on setting up Photoshop and they all mention the Mercury graphics engine in CS6. Now I'm not sure on the technology of Lightroom, but would it perhaps benefit from the same technology?
    The biggest bug bear for me is the latency on making adjustments. For example if I open a picture in Develop. Then adjust Exposure. The slider acknowledges the new value but the preview needs time to catch up.Again it's not the end of the world for me. But if ayone know of tweaks or enhancements I could make to LR to improve this area, that would be greatly appreciated.
    I would like to close by saying. I believe LR is a great product and along with Photoshop they compliment each other very well. IF LR performance could take the same step as Photoshop I believe LR would become a fanstatic product not just a great one.
    Thanks for reading.

  • Adobe Air - HTML, Javascript and Threading

    Hello,
    I am developing an application using Adobe Air - HTML and
    Javascript. What I am trying to do is to implement threading in
    Javascript. I am using implementing threading in Javascript as per
    this Neil blog.
    Click
    Here. It clearly says that this threading works only in Firefox
    2.0 and I am trying to use this in with my Adobe Air, but when I
    try to refer a function , it gives me error saying "unable to find
    it".
    I was wondering if this is the best way to go for threading
    in Adobe Air HTML application or there is some other way also.
    Thanks,
    Jaikishan

    Hi jjalan,
    The yield and generator functionality is only available in
    Firefox's javascript execution engine. When you are executing
    javascript in AIR, it is done by the webkit and squirrelfish. Take
    a look at
    http://webkit.org/blog/189/announcing-squirrelfish/
    If you can find a javascript library that works on safari /
    webkit, chances are high that it may work in AIR.
    Also, you can always do pseudo-threading via the age old
    setTimeout()

  • AIR HTML+JavaScript app vs. hardware accelerated composing

    I'm developing an HTML application for mobiles and desktops. The application is optimized for WebKit based environment. To improve a rendering speed I'm using hardware accelerated layers (something like -webkit-transform: translateZ(0); etc...).
    This works great on my iOS devices (using PhoneGap aka Cordova to package a "native" app).
    On Windows and OS X I'm using Adobe AIR 3.5 to package a captive runtime HTML/JavaScript based application. I have found this to be the best solution (for now) even though I have tried many others (Cordova for Windows 7 / OS X, TideSDK, ...).
    The point is that the HTML rendering in Adobe AIR seems not to be hardware accelerated. Does anyone of you have experience with this? Is here any possibility to enable hardware accelerated layers in AIR HTML rendering?
    Thanks a lot

    Thanks a lot, actually I tried AIR SDK 3.6 yesterday and it seems it still doesn't support an acceleration. In a browser it works just fine even in fullscreen (zoomed page). It seems that the best way to achieve my goal will be using Cordova wrappers for OS X and Win Desktop. But as an AIR developer I really want to use AIR SDK So I will do some more tests..
    Thanks,
    Pavel

  • Consuming SOAP services from AIR/HTML (JavaScript).

    Hi All.
    I am trying to consume SOAP web services from an AIR/HTML application for a research on AIR I am doing for my company, and I am having very little success.
    I am creating JavaScript clients using apache's cxf wsdl2js utility.
    When I try to use the client to call any web service I've tried, I always get an 'error 500' response.
    The web services work fine if i call them from other clients.
    Before trying cxf generated clients I googled a lot to see if there was a more native way of doing these calls from AIR, but found nothing. I don't see anything in documentation or the web about it.
    Am I the only one trying this?
    Could this be a cross-domain issue? I'm certainly hoping AIR apps don't have this issue.
    Any pointers as to how to succesfully consume SOAP services from AIR is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    In Visual Basic, you can set Network Credentials like this (assuming that you first declare Public CallWebService001 As New <WebReference>):
            ' Create a new instance of CredentialCache.
            Dim mycredentialCache As Net.CredentialCache = New Net.CredentialCache()
            ' Create a new instance of NetworkCredential using the client
            ' credentials.
            Dim credentials As Net.NetworkCredential = New Net.NetworkCredential(<username>, <password>)
            ' Add the NetworkCredential to the CredentialCache.
            mycredentialCache.Add(New Uri(CallWebService001.Url), "Basic", credentials)
            ' Add the CredentialCache to the proxy class credentials.
            CallWebService001.Credentials = mycredentialCache

  • AIR 3.0 Application Built in HTML/Javascript VERY SLOW on Windows 7 and XP

    Hello AIR Team,
    The commercial AIR application I'm developing for a client (using HTML/CSS/Javascript) is VERY SLOW on my Windows 7 (64 bit) and Windows XP machines running on the Adobe AIR 3.0 runtime. I notice the poor performance in all aspects of the application, but especially on mouse events (mouseover, mouseout, click).
    However, it runs very well on my Mac OS X 10.6.8 test machine AND from within Dreamweaver CS5.5 on my Windows 7 machine.
    Chris Campbell from Adobe posted in another topic on this forum that he has notified the Adobe Webkit Team about this issue, but I'm anxious to know WHEN the Adobe AIR Team will release an AIR update/patch to resolve these performance issues.
    Any ETA on the update/patch?
    ~Oscar

    This performance issue is tracked in adobe bugbase: https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=2958614
    It is appreciated that anyone affected by this issue could leave vote notes about how the fix is important for you and your business.
    Thanks,

  • Adobe Air HTML & JS Developing - Slow on massive Image-Tags

    Hello,
    I want to share a problem i noticed while developing an application with adobe air, based on the HTML & JS Stack, which uses multiple image-tags at the same time. I already mailed a bug but unfortunately did not get a bug number responded to refer to hit here. This post is started because i wanted to share a simple example which exhibits the problem.
    The Bug Report i mailed:
    ******BUG******
    Concise problem statement: Performance Issues with massive Image-Tags (scaled)
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. Create a simple Air-Application. No need for any Air-specific library we just want the Air-Webkit to render a HTML-Page
    2.  Load ~130 Pictures with a dimension of approximately 1024 x 768 pixels.  Render each of them as a scaled Image-Tag with the dimension 100x60  pixels.
    3. Load the Page in the Air/Safari/Firefox/IE Environment (Versions: Air 2.5, Safari 5.0.2 (Win XP), FF 3.6.10, IE7)
    4. Try scrolling down/left/right/up and resizing the respective stage
    Results: The Air Environment performs worst among those 4. It reacts unacceptably slow while trying to resize and to scroll.
    Expected results: similar performance to Webkit-Engine in Safari.
    I know of one other discussion which seems to be related to a similar thing (http://forums.adobe.com/message/44913).
    The Page i used to compare the Adobe-Air rendering & scroll behaviour against the behaviour of Safari, FF and IE is posted beneath (pretty long due to the excerpt of 131 pictures taken of flicker web service).
    with best regards
    Robert

    Hi,
    Thank you for reporting this. The internal bug number for the issue is #2740755. The issue is currently under review and will be investigated by one of AIR team members.

  • Air HTML HTMLLoader load https ssl with untrusted or unknown certificate, click 'yes' does nothing

    When i go to a https website with an untrusted certificate i get this warning.
    when i click "yes" the HTML component does not go anywhere. just a blank white screen.
    tried this out with adobe air 1.5 and 2.0

    Hi,
    I have the same problem on win 7 with my AIR project that worked fine with HTTP (HTTPService) and that has a chaotic behaviour with HTTPS, i.e. for each request the user need to clic 2 times on yes. The first time for accept the fact that the certificate is not validated by an offcial authority and the second time because the name in the certificate is not corresponding with the name of the server....
    Do these two actions for each request makes the application unusable ! I already tried to add my certificate to CA Root on my machine but it didn't resolve anything. Is there a solution to disable these warning from my air application ? Can I continue to use HTTPService for my communication ? Need I use low level classes as SecureSocket ?
    Thanks !

    Additionnal info : I tried  to establish a socket connection on my server with SecureSocket class and I didn't find a way to bypass the blocking IOError #2031:Socket Error with the serverCertificateStatus = "principalMismatch". If I good understand, the socket do not want to connect to my server because it has not the good name and there is no way to accept to continue... That's it ?

  • Macbook Air 11  Late 2010 - Slow start up times

    I used to have a start up time of around 10-15 seconds with my mb air (11 inch 4gb ram core 2 duo 1.6 128gb SS). Now, it takes 40-50 seconds to fully load it.
    I've done the ff
    1) verified and fixed permisions
    2) used clean my mac
    3) used onyx
    4) ensured that my hard drive is the start up drive ( start up disk)

    Safe boot always takes longer because it checks the drive, clears caches, etc. Perhaps using Snow Leopard Cache Cleaner to clear out all your user, system, and font caches will help. As will doing this:
    Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
    Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
    If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • Slow network with Time Capsule

    Hi There!
    We have a network at home consisting of a Time Capsule (to provide wireless to the house as well as to hold all of our iTunes content and use as a file server), two Mac Pro towers, a MacBook Pro, an iMac, and two Windows-based notebooks, and an Apple TV. We are NOT using the Time Capsule for backup.
    The problem we're having is that the network is incredibly slow. Trying to copy a large file over the network can take hours when it should only take minutes. And we can't stream shows/movies in iTunes from the Time Capsule because it pauses every one or two seconds to catch up. We also have business grade cable modem service but we can't do iChat videoconferencing without the audio/video completely dropping.
    We tried purchasing an Airport Express to extend the range of the signal (and even purchased a second one!) but those didn't help, either. The firmware on all devices it up-to-date. And the network is closed (no one is leeching).
    Are there any tools, either built in to OS X or another source, that can help us diagnose what's wrong with our network? What other things can we try to diagnose the slow network?
    Thanks!

    First of all, be aware that the more devices you connect to a wireless network, the slower it goes. In addition, if you have devices that only work at B or G speeds, all devices on the network slow down to the slowest device.
    For example, when you have a 300mbps N device and a 11mbps B device connected to the same network, they'll both go at a maximum speed of 5.5mbps. You are limited to 11mbps because of the B device and then further limited to 5.5mbps because there are two devices sharing the total (11mbps) bandwidth.
    As far as testing out your current connection, try these:
    1. On a mac, you can hold down Option and click on the airport/wireless icon. This will show transmit rate and other information. The maximum transmit rate for N devices is 270, G: 54, B: 11. If the transmit rate is very low, this indicates a poor wireless signal
    2. Change the wireless channel used by your time capsule to something else. Try them all to see what gives you the best wireless signal
    3. In the airport utility, select the time capsule, go to manual setup, go to advanced, click on Logs and Statistics, then click Wireless Clients. This shows the transfer rate, noise, and signal for each device connected to the time capsule.
    4. Download iStumbler. This mac application will show other wireless networks in the area and what channel they're using. It is typically not good to set your network to use the same channel as others in your area.
    5. Download some sort of application that shows transfer speeds (like iStat Pro). Test transferring large files between computers to see how fast it goes with different setups.
    There's a few things you can do to improve wireless performance when bogged down with too many devices:
    1. Turn off any wireless devices not in use. If it's on, it's using bandwidth space even though it's not transferring data.
    2. Use multiple routers or a dual-band router to create separate networks. For example, you can make the time capsule make a 802.11N-Only network which will only the new N devices will connect to. Plug an express into it and make it create another network (G-only or B/G-only). Keep plugging in additional routers and make new networks as needed.
    3. Replace older B/G devices with N devices if possible.

  • Slow wifi with Time Capsule

    Hi,
    I bought a brnad new 2TB Time Capsule a few weeks ago to replace an ageing Airport Extreme. Plugged it in, set it it up. All lovely. Except... two weeks later, my wifi has slowed to an absolute crawl. I'm also having problems with my iPhone dropping my wifi connection, and the connectivity to my iPad comes and goes.
    I've reset the Time Capsule - restored to factory settings - and the problem appears to fix itself for all of an hour or so, and then the wifi signal degrades to almost useless.
    Really, really ****** off here. What's the point? I have step-sons upstairs with a BT HomeHub, and their signal is strong, constant and reliable. Whereas muggins here, plugging a TC into another BT HomeHub is getting ****. Thinking of - I'm shocked at myself - just junking the TC and using kit that works.
    Any suggestions or thoughts gratefully received.

    You have the dual "n" band enabled with your Time Capsule - the 5GHz band for your MBP, and the 2.4GHz band for your iPhone?
    I have not experienced the same with my iPhone 4 when connected to my Time Capsule set up with dual band for my MBP and iPhone.

  • Slow internet with Time Capsule

    I just bought a 4th generation Time Capsule to replace my Airport extreme.
    With the Time Capsule my internet speed has drobbed to less them .60 mps.
    When I reattach my Airport extreme I get 6 mps
    I am using the lastest firmware (7.6.1) I have checked all of my setting and so has Apple.
    Apple has replaced the Time Capsule 2 times, but the 3rd one still has the same problem.
    When connect the DSL Modem directly to the computer  or the old airport extreme everything is fine.
    Apple is now saying that maybe it's my dsl modem, but AT&T says everything is fine and I am running the lastest firmware on the dsl modem.
    I am running system 10.8.2 on an iMac and MacBokk Pro with Retina... Also a couple of iPads
    Anyone else had this problem? Solution? Ideas?
    Thanks.. Jim

    Very interesting.. and Apple have not even really tried to troubleshoot this.
    What model is the old airport extreme? Give me the A1xxx from the foot.
    A screen shot of the setup would be very useful.. particularly the wireless.
    Is the modem in bridge?
    Can you bridge it and try with the TC doing pppoe?
    Or do you have the modem running as router and the AEBS /TC in bridge?
    When you run the TC what is the wireless link speed?
    What about speed sharing a file in the local network?
    I suspect your problem maybe the WAN to LAN throughput which has been reported in some cases as being an issue.. with no resolution.. the bug does not hit everyone so it could be just the combo of that particular dsl modem and TC that is part of the issue.
