Air Mobile iOs: TextField - Possible to disable 'clear button'?
Hi,
I have got a flash.text.TextField in my new iOs application.
As soon as I focus the text field, that iOs typical grey 'clear button' appears to the right of the text field.
Is there any possibility to prevent that button from appearing? I want to use customized clear buttons at that point.
What I've already tried and what did not work:
- Adding a mask to the textfield: The mask works fine for the TextField, but the clear button shows up on top anyway
Thanks.
try increasing the length of the text field, i.e forcing the clear button out of the view

Is it possible to disable a button in the Headstart 6i Toolbar/smartbar?
In a master/detail form, which I'm developing, I want to disable
the Create Record button in the Toolbar the moment I enter the
detail block.
I've tried using QMS$TOOLBAR.DISABLE_BUTTON in the WHEN-NEW-
BLOCK-INSTANCE, but that wouldn't work.
I'm using Headstart 6i.
Can somebody tell me if it's possible to disable the buttons and
if so, how?
Regards,
Ivo HensgensYes, you can disable a button on teh smartbar.
You do this by disabling the associated menu item.
Use: QMS$MENU.DISABLE_ITEM or QMS$FORM_FUNCTION.DISABLE.
(See page 14-9 en 14-10 of the User Guide)
In your case you can use:
QMS$FORM_FUNCTION.DISABLE('CREATE_RECORD');
By the way: there is now a seperate forum for Headstart. -
Customers form: Disabling Clear button in DFF block
I need to disable the CLEAR button on the DFF block which opens up in Receivables Customer form. Please let me know is it possible to do it, using Form personalization or CUSTOM.pll. Please let me know how to do it.
It's not possible with the personalization, you have to do with custom.pll.

Possible to disable volume buttons - ipad?
I have a ipad2 ios7 with a volume button fault - it means the volume (down) button is randomly engaged every few seconds, resulting in the volume going to zero, but even at zero it also means the volume button activation icon is constantly flashed in the middle of the screen.
Is is possible to write an app to disable the volume buttons or buttons in general? so that the icon will not flash on when the button is pressed?
Or in conjunction with this is it possible to lock the volume so that pressing the vol buttons has no effect.
In either case, my main concern is preventing the volume icon appearing constantly on the screen - I can live without any sound.
Apple have provided (in IOS) the neat feature allowing a floating screen button to take the place of a faulty home button. It would be great if they included some way to overcome faulty volume buttons also.
I appreciate the benefit of your experience,
regards,

The so called Apple factory refurbished units I assume to mean they do repair returned units at some point and resell them? Otherwise why call them refurbished - they are just brand new?
Apple does not repair them. The manufacturer, Foxconn, does so back at their facilities in China. Apple just ships them back, and receives factory refurbished service units from them. That is why they are called refurbished and not repaired - they are fully refurbished by the actual manufacturer. They all get new screens and new battery, regardless of age or condition, any other faults are repaired and they are fully tested and come with a minimum of a 90 day warranty. -

IOS AIR 2.X to AIR 3.3 Update Possible?
i Have Air apps for iOS on the Appstore in Air Versions 2.0, 2.5 and 2.7
With the new possibilities in Air 3.3 i want to upgrade these to Air 3.3.
I have tried to upload updates on iTunes Connect but i get a message from the uploader that a different Air version is not possible.
I am aware that users on older iPhones than 3GS will not benefit from this update, but thought that they would be filtered out.
Any suggestions on how to update Air versions ?He means to say that you can't use AIR 3.x on ARMv6. Clearly you can use AIR on ARMv6, you already have apps that do that.
Apple's App Store rules say that you can't drop support for a device when doing an update. Changing to AIR 3.3 would mean that the older devices had been dropped, and that's why the uploading is failing.
Your only real option is to create a new product. Maybe you could add Retina support, and call the new version "HD".
If you are just doing bug fix updates, or feature improvements that don't involve new AIR abilities, then you will have to stick with publishing it from Flash Pro CS5. -
How to Symbolicate an AIR mobile crash report on iOS?
I am developing a game that uses the iOS GameKit API via a native extension. It works great over WiFi. But when I switch to Bluetooth, I get intermittent crashes.
So I can start guessing at where my problem lies... but that could take days. iOS is dumping a crash report that it is able to partially symbolicate. (Unfortunately, it's the part that doesn't help me much) For example:

So I need to know how to turn those memory addresses into functions. That would help me out a ton. I found a lot of information on how to do it manually via the dSym... but nothing that seems to apply to an AIR mobile app. (And nothing that seems to actually work)

[AIR to iOS] Reading 'included' video file with NetStream, possible?
Hey all,
During publishing of the app you have a chance to include extra files. I'd like to include a f4v flash video that I'd like to play via the Video class. I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how to get these two connected.
I can get a full reference to the file ala the usual and use .url or .nativePath:
var videoFile:File = File.applicationDirectory.resolvePath("some.f4v");
When I try to pass that into a NetStream such as:
var myVideo:Video = new Video();
addChild(myVideo);
var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
nc.connect(null);
var ns:NetStream = new NetStream(nc);
myVideo.attachNetStream(ns);
ns.play(videoFile.url);
This never works for me. Nor using:
ns.play(videoFile.nativePath);
Anyone ever get a class like Loader or NetStream, etc to load included files in AIR for iOS or Android projects? See anything wrong here? Thanks for tips!I got this to work (exactly as mentioned above) in Android but on iOS I get issues. I also need to use .url as .nativePath doesn't seem to be friendly.
The performance is another thing. Trying to play a 800x480 video on a HTC EVO 4G (single 1ghz snapdragon) was a painful 1-2fps mess. I encoded the video in f4v H.264 and also mp4 H.264. They were both 1-2FPS.
Clearly waiting for StageVideo in AIR3.0 is going to be the fix for this whole mess.
ns.play("videofile.f4v") ... I don't think that your first 3 lines are needed or appropriate here, are they?
You're in AIR for Android/iOS so you have the flash.filesystem package you should look at, specifically the File class. It helps AIR load files you package that are located in your applicationDirectory. -
AIR for iOS app works perfectly in emulator, not at all on an actual iPad
I'm new to mobile development, so I'm hoping I am doing some simple wrong, like a wrong checked box or something.
I have an app that I have written for iPad. It's fully functioning when I run it through the emulator (I have to change it to Flash 10.1 and use Device Emulator because nothing else will accept touch events) but doesn't really work on the iPad. Some of the features work, and some don't. It's like it's just not quite compiling all the code, and I'm very confused.
My publish settings:
Player: AIR for iOS
Script: Actionscript 3.0
Included .swf, .xml, and all relevant .as class files
Published using quick publish for device testing
Are there some AS 3.0 features that won't work in iOS? If so it would be really great to have a list of those somewhere.
What am I doing wrong? Why won't my app work on an actual device if it tests perfectly in the emulator?My original question has not been answered, but I am running across the same problem in a different way.
I have added to my code, continuing to build the app, (hoping the problem can be solved eventually), and once again, the app works perfectly in Device Central but not on the iPad.
I have buttons to select different levels of the puzzle. Each time you press a button, the level automatically updates itself on the board. So if you are playing the shape level, the shape of the puzzle piece is on the board. If you are playing the name level, the name of the puzzle piece is on the board. Etc.
This works perfectly on my computer. However - again - when I transfer it to an iPad, choosing the "shape" level will cause the names to pop up.
I have double and triple checked the variable names to make sure they match up and are correctly spelled and capitalized. It just doesn't function in iOS.
Here is the code to switch levels and automatically generate a new random puzzle piece:
function changeLevel (e:TouchEvent): void {
trackUSAPiece = ["pieceAL", "pieceAK", "pieceAZ", "pieceAR", "pieceCA", "pieceCO", "pieceCT", "pieceDE", "pieceFL", "pieceGA", "pieceHI", "pieceID", "pieceIL", "pieceIN", "pieceIA", "pieceKS", "pieceKY", "pieceLA", "pieceME", "pieceMD", "pieceMA", "pieceMI", "pieceMN", "pieceMS", "pieceMO", "pieceMT", "pieceNE", "pieceNV", "pieceNH", "pieceNJ", "pieceNM", "pieceNY", "pieceNC", "pieceND", "pieceOH", "pieceOK", "pieceOR", "piecePA", "pieceRI", "pieceSC", "pieceSD", "pieceTN", "pieceTX", "pieceUT", "pieceVT", "pieceVA", "pieceWA", "pieceWV", "pieceWI", "pieceWY"]
if (e.target == nameLevel) {
PuzzleGlobals.currentLevel = "Name";
nameLevel.gotoAndStop("Active");
abbrevLevel.gotoAndStop("Inactive");
shapeLevel.gotoAndStop("Inactive");
for (var j=0; j<(PuzzleGlobals.TOTAL_NUMBER_USA); j++) {
this[trackUSAPiece[j]].gotoAndStop("wholeName");
else if (e.target == abbrevLevel) {
PuzzleGlobals.currentLevel = "Abbrev";
abbrevLevel.gotoAndStop("Active");
nameLevel.gotoAndStop("Inactive");
shapeLevel.gotoAndStop("Inactive");
for (var k=0; k<(PuzzleGlobals.TOTAL_NUMBER_USA); k++) {
this[trackUSAPiece[k]].gotoAndStop("abbrev");
else if (e.target == shapeLevel) {
PuzzleGlobals.currentLevel = "Shape";
shapeLevel.gotoAndStop("Active");
nameLevel.gotoAndStop("Inactive");
abbrevLevel.gotoAndStop("Inactive");
for (var l=0; l<(PuzzleGlobals.TOTAL_NUMBER_USA); l++) {
this[trackUSAPiece[l]].gotoAndStop("shape");
function addNewPiece (e:TouchEvent): void {
ri = Math.floor(Math.random()*(1+PuzzleGlobals.TOTAL_NUMBER_USA));
if (PuzzleGlobals.statesOnBoardUSA == PuzzleGlobals.TOTAL_NUMBER_USA) {
//play BOOP sound indicating no new pieces left
else {
if (usaPiece[ri] != null) {
bmc.addChild(this[usaPiece[ri]]);
if (PuzzleGlobals.currentLevel == "Shape") {
this[usaPiece[ri]].height = this[usaPuzzle[ri]].height;
this[usaPiece[ri]].width = this[usaPuzzle[ri]].width;
this[usaPiece[ri]].x = e.stageX;
this[usaPiece[ri]].y = e.stageY;
usaPiece[ri] = null;
PuzzleGlobals.statesOnBoardUSA++;
else {
addNewPiece(e);
Here is the code that creates the piece:
public function GeoPiece(): void {
if (PuzzleGlobals.currentLevel == "Name") {
this.gotoAndStop("wholeName");
else if (PuzzleGlobals.currentLevel == "Abbrev") {
this.gotoAndStop("abbrev");
else if (PuzzleGlobals.currentLevel == "Shape") {
this.gotoAndStop("shape");
this.addEventListener(TouchEvent.TOUCH_BEGIN, geoPieceBegin);
Is it possible I have a bad compiler or something? Do I need to reinstall the entire program? I just can't figure out why it would work in one operating system and not in another.
Thanks

How to use ScaleNine themes to skin an Adobe Air Mobile App
Hi,
I'm rather new to Adobe Air development But I really like it! Now that I've created my app I would like to skin it. I've found ScaleNine (http://www.scalenine.com/gallery/gallery-1.php) which has ready made cool skins for Flex and Air. I downloaded the samples and they compile and work beautifully. HOWEVER: I can't seem to be able to use them to skin my Air mobile app.
Can anyone post an example ViewNavigatorApplication themed with one of the themes there? this one (http://www.scalenine.com/themes/blend/Blend.html) looks as though someone tailored it to my app :-)
Thanks a lot!
AviI don't know how your application is structured, but if you can split sections off into separate SWFs(plain AS3 document) then you could host those section SWFs online and require the user to download them on first run.
You could use the FileReference object to download the SWFs, save them to the File.applicationStorageDirectory, and then display/load them up with the Loader object when needed from the app storage directory. You would possibly need to check to see if the files are present at every boot of the app though as a user could "Clear Data" or "Clear Cache" of the app in the Settings of their device and one or both of those could/would delete the downloaded files.

USER_IDLE or USER_PRESENT event in adobe air for ios
Hi All,
Does anybody is having any idea that how can we detect the user Idle time in Adobe air based ios mobile application.
For a desktop based air project this can eaisly be defined by the below two events:-
1) flash.events.Event.USER_IDLE
2) flash.events.Event.USER_PRESENT
But its very painfull to know that these events are not going to work with the mobile applications.
If anybody is having any idea,please let me know.
Any help will be appriciated.
with Regards,
ShardulThis is possible a possible workaround on mobile. I am currently testing this on iOS.
Use:
import mx.core.FlexGlobals;
import mx.core.mx_internal;
import mx.events.FlexEvent;
import mx.managers.ISystemManager;
systemManager = Application(FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication).systemManager;
systemManager.addEventListener(FlexEvent.IDLE, userIdleHandler);
and then the handler looks something like this:
private function userIdleHandler(e:FlexEvent):void
if(e.currentTarget.mx_internal::idleCounter == 300){ //300 = 30 seconds
trace("idle timeout");
//do stuff
The only real problem Im having with it is that if the user hits the home button and the app suspends, upon resuming the idleCounter is > the threshold number and never gets reset when the user is making touches/presses/clicks.
If you guys refine this post your updates.
Thanks,

Present and future of Flash with AIR on iOS
I'm having a hard time finding clear information on the situation about deploying Flash with air runtine on iOS. While it seems clear that the plugin flash for iOS is ended I didn't find any infos about Adobe AIR. Is it still possible to distribute apps for iOS through the iTunes Store. Arte the apps using Air still running on iOS.
Thank
MarcWhile it seems clear that the plugin flash for iOS is ended
There was never any Flash plugin for iOS. Apple has always been very forward about iOS simply does not support Flash. It ended for Android.
Adobe AIR apps compile down into native code (ARM for iOS). You're not actually running "Flash" or "AIR" at that point. This method of deploying apps is very convenient because the same code used to produce an AIR for iOS app can be largely re-used on the Android side, reducing overall costs involved in developing for both platforms.
I think it's pretty safe to say this method of app creation isn't going away anytime soon.
Lastly yes there are plenty of AIR for iOS apps on the market (I have some myself) and they all work fine as long as you do as an Xcode or Java developer would when a new OS comes out. You test for compatibility and update as necessary to keep your app functioning properly. The vast majority of fixes needed come from OS changes, not issues with Adobe AIR. Stability is very good.
