AIR vs. Web limitations?

Is an AIR Desktop app limited to 256 colors and to the same limitations as Flash running in a web browser(i.e. fonts, bitmaps, web safe colors, transparency)? Since the published file will be running on a desktop, what concerns does one need to have regarding HTML protocol and browser issues. Do the same rules apply?

I'd like an answer for this one too.  Thank you, "Media Kat" for posting the question.  I am a prototyper with a background in art and design, who has worked exclusively with Flash for nearly 13 years.  I'm currently working with AIR for Android, but my superiors and associates think AIR is going to die (along with the rest of Flash) and don't understand that simply "switching to HTML5" is not a very palatable answer.  It would be helpful to hear from someone "in the know" about the future of Flash.
Thanks.
P.S.  If someone from Adobe answers this, please don't BS me like they did at the last forum I attended at Adobe headquarters in San Jose.  We asked specifically if Flash and/oir Flex were dying and were assured that they had a long future... Three weeks before the announcement to kill it!  :-(

  • WMS2012: Using web limiting on a site with a redirect.

We are using Multipoint Server 2012 and have run into a situation we need assistance with. We have a website that users are required to go to and sign into. This site redirects to the login page, and then back to the original link. The only solution we have
found is to have the main link, and the redirected link as "Allowed" Users are getting confused and clicking on the redirected link on the web limiting landing page, which will not work without first coming from the main link.
Is there a way to edit this page so the users do not see the redirection link, but still allow them access to the main link and the ability to sign in?
basically in short, users go to portal.adp.com and it redirects to agateway.adp.com then back to portal.adp.com. we only want users to see the portal.adp.com link, and still allow the passthrough of the redirect.

Wait a second...there is more to that error message that I overlooked before.
There might be something other than just the way I set the CODE and CODEBASE parameters wrong here
    Any ideas?

  • Web limiting won't allow sites that should be OK

I have web limiting turned on and it seemed to work fine until today.  Now it will not allow a site that should be allowed.
I have "targetsite" listed as an allowed site.  I can go to www.targetsite.com.  A link on targetsite redirects to www.targetsite.com/ContentDelivery.aspx?ca=parameter and this page is not allowed.
What else can I do to make this page available?
    Peggy Thrasher

The Web Limiting feature of WMS2012 is very basic, but at least it's better than the one in WMS2011, which only worked with IE and slowed everything down. Because websites contain so many third-party content servers from Amazon, google, etc., I'm constantly
going into the source code of websites or my router's web filter to see what's missing and why only part of the website is coming up. Then I add all of those extra sites into the whitelist.
The WMS web limiting feature needs a wildcard feature and keyword feature (e.g. "ftp://*" to block all ftp sites). Perhaps even a checkmark screen for commonly blocked things like google images, ftp, etc.
It needs a global checkbox to block all traffic except for the whitelist but still respect the blacklist. That way we could also use the blacklist to fine tune the whitelist. For instance, we could whitelist google.com but then blacklist:
    "*google.com/imgres?*" to prevent image URLs.
"*google.com/preferences?*" to prevent users from adjusting safe filtering
It needs a trusted site feature where it will trust all the links from a trusted site so you don't have to put a dozen extra URLs into the whitelist and hope the website doesn't switch content servers. I suppose this would be resource intensive because Microsoft
would have to look at the source code of every page or at least ones in this special trusted site section. It wouldn't be able to handle content in iframes (which are usually ads anyway), but it would be a start.
It needs a time schedule for web limiting.
It needs web limiting on a per user or per group basis, including for administrator accounts.
All of these features need to work with https traffic as well.

  • Use native webkit renderer instead of Adobe Air for web content (getting webgl running)?

I'm doing a little R&D right now to see what is possible with the DPS in order to evaluate if it's the right (powerful enough) tool for us. Right now it's for internal purposes, that is a DPS app/magazine as a means of showing our clients our work. One idea I had was trying to use WebGL features in order to create things such as turntables (or even 3D walkthroughs of things like fair booth designs with pre-baked textures in order to ensure proper performance), however unfortunately the content viewer seems to be using Adobe Air 4 for rendering web content, which means WebGL isn't supported. Am I right about this?
Is there any way how we can get around this? The Adobe Air viewer seems to be extremely limited in terms of HTML5 feature support, including lack of proper rendering of Edge Animate compositions.

If you are an existing DPS customer you can go to https://appbuilder.digitalpublishing.acrobat.com and create a custom viewer to test.

  • Webi limitations on SAP BW

    Hi Experts,
I am working on a project using BO XI 3.1 and SAP BI 7.1.
We want to use SAP BW Infocubes, BW Queries as data source to WebI reports. We know there are some limitations on the WebI side and all the features won't be availble like relational database on SAP BW sources. I am specifically looking for the following inputs:
    1.  when you set up publications (particularly email ditribution) are there any known limitations (other than one fetch for each reciepient)? can report be distributed with appropiate data being filted as per user's role (Assuming proper roles are setup on BW side and same are imported in BO) ?
e.g. User A should get the report in email with data for region A only
User B should get the report in email with data for region B only
Reason iam asking is, i could find some posts where users have reported some issues with bursting feature.
    2. Can be complex calcution & key figures be done at webi side? I read it in one SAP article that it is recommended to do this in a BEX query? Need more details on the why its not advisable to do it in WebI? Is this because limited fuctions are avaible for olap on the webi side? or just for performance reasons?
    Thanks
    Sushil.

    Hey Sushil,
    1. when you set up publications (particularly email ditribution) are there any known limitations (other than one fetch for each reciepient)? can report be distributed with appropiate data being filted as per user's role (Assuming proper roles are setup on BW side and same are imported in BO) ?

User B should get the report in email with data for region B only
Reason iam asking is, i could find some posts where users have reported some issues with bursting feature.
If all the Roles/Authorizations mapped correctly, then BO will work perfectly.
Can you post what the problems you faced??
    2. Can be complex calcution & key figures be done at webi side? I read it in one SAP article that it is recommended to do this in a BEX query? Need more details on the why its not advisable to do it in WebI? Is this because limited fuctions are avaible for olap on the webi side? or just for performance reasons?
YEP, because of performance as first concern, Exit(User/Customer/SAP) functionality.
It is not like that WebI has less functions, It means, we have to do/use many formulas or combination of functions to get exact data.
Per my experience, Complex conditions I made it in WebI only, worked well.
    Gracias...!!

  • Flex/Air and Web Services/Remote Objects

If I'm calling a web service operation, either through the
mx:webservice or mx:remoteobject tags, do I need to configure my
Flex or Air project (I'm using the latest Flex Builder IDE) with
the "use remote object access service" when creating the project?
When do I need to configure services-config.xml or
    remoting-config.xml?
Can't I simply call a web service operation by specifying the
endpoint (if using mx:remoteobject) or the wsdl location for the
service and then invoking one of its methods? I'm having a very
difficult time consuming a web service through either method (even
on my own local ColdFusion 8 developer instance) and need some
assistance. I've looked all over the internet for help, but, so
    far, without success.
    Thanks,
    -Jose

You do not need to specify any server to use any of the RPC
    protocols.
Have you looked at an example?
You have not said what problems you are having.
Be aware of crossdomain security issues.

  • MacBook Pro or MacBook Air for Web & Mobile Development

    Hi  Guys,
I have always been a PC users since I was young. Currently I do Web Development, HTML, CSS, javascript and Sencha Touch HTML5 mobile app development
The reason I want to change to a Mac because I need a laptop to travel and work, previously I used a PC work station. The other reason I want to change to Mac was to purchase Apple developer kit and start to develop native iPhone App
    My Options are:
    1) MacBook Air 13 ( 1.8GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor , 8GB ram ( Free upgrade promo ), 256GHz SSD
    2) MacBook Pro 15 ( 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, 8GB ram ( Free upgrade promo ), 500GHz HDD
    3) Retina MacBook Pro 15 ( 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, 8GB ram, 256GHz SSD
As the promotion for the ram upgrade are till this week ( except for rMBP ), I need to make a decision quick. I frequently use DreamWeaver, Photoshop and I also do Photography in my pastime. Could anyone advise me on the pros and cons on this. Does Retina MacBook really worth the additional bucks that I put in. Does the web development community going to start using Retina for testing high resolution images needed so early?
Btw I own a Dell 22.5 inch IPS good LCD monitor
    Appreciate for your help thanks.

  • Air 2 web order fiasco: UK carrier nightmares

A cautionary tale relating to web orders.
I recently ordered a new 16GB ipad air 2 from the UK apple online store.
When it arrived on the thursday, it showed that the available memory was actually around 10GB.
Deciding this was ridiculously small - and possibly false advertising - I initiated a return and ordered the 64GB version.
I was told on the phone that I could not take the 16 to a store for a refund as the web and street stores are unconnected in some vital way.
I was told that UPS would contact me to arrange pickup of the 16, and that Synchreon would deliver the 64 the following monday.
UPS did not contact me, so I called Apple who called them, and they made a verbal agreement to pick up the 16 on the wednesday.
Monday - no 64. I called up and was told the driver had got stuck and ran out of time. SAME THING on tuesday. Rang next morning and a woman took charge and compelled their carrier - UK Mail - to deliver the item that day, which they did.
No UPS wednesday. When I called, they said that the return pickup had not been logged by the guy I made the arrangement with.
They said that the local depot would call in the morning to arrange pickup in the afternoon - which they did.
I am now waiting for delivery confirmation at Apple distribution, and confirmation that the refund is being processed.
These may be first world problems, but when you have to wait inside for four days and need to get out to buy food and medicine, this is a very real problem.
It is far from good enough, and I want to get an answer from Apple on whether or not they deem such a mess acceptable.
As a user of Amazon Prime, who even deliver on sundays, I believe they have set a standard, by which Apple looks dismal in comparison.
In the middle of all that, I did get some assistance from a Gordon in Apple's Belfast call centre who did everything he could to join the dots, and an Aoife at Synchreon who kicked ***, and a Wendy at UPS Bristol who made things happen. When individuals took responsibility and got on the case, problems got solved. There were also a few who passed the buck, made excuses and promised things that did not materialise.
The lesson? At present, you might consider steering clear of web orders for the time being. Perhaps it was all part of some life lesson, presumably in patience. But for me, being disabled, the local Apple store is far from accessible for me. Hopefully I will have no reason to deal with either the online or brick and mortar store any time soon.

BT is a joke, just been told my latest order with Ref: AJMDAZZxxxxx569. Is also cancelled. The CS from uk call centre stated my new and previous order is showing cancelled with a note "due to reason stating package too expensive & not right for me." What Utter bull!!. I told CS, why is it when I login to mybt acc# and click on track my order with the above reference & postcode I get all the information that order is on track. she couldn't answer me. Then I pressed her on further points if you stating that my order is cancelled why have I not received a cancellation email, which I did for the first order that also got cancelled? All I got was a sudden silent and told me I will receiving a txt msg to my mobile to confirm cancellation. More lies!! Received no txt msg as of yet.
Why cant they just reset the information held for the orders that have been cancelled so in mybt I would see no orders that are active. So I can re-order via web. I'm beginning to have second thoughts about BT and what others have stated before about their level of help from customer service. Biggest factor is CS that is the core of my issue. No one is dealing with the problem just get transferred to different Dept. Annoying to say the least.
I hope the mods can sort this out asap, still waiting for reply

  • Air Guitar Web-site, used tables, slam me

Ok, check it out. i wanted to use it on this site, so i came up with this fun topic to try it out - and i failed.
Really, I am not making web sites often, but i wanted to see how the CSS would work to design pages.
Anyway, I had to give up, but because I liked my idea about the Air Guitars so much, I continued in tables.
I struggled already to position my content in the middle 800 wide. tried the div tag things, but got frustrated. with the tables, I have to say honestly it makes sense. but I understand that CSS is the future, so where to start really. just a bit more complicated than using CSS as a type stylesheet.
    cheers, Dimitri

    Dimitri,
I guess what I was after is that People tell me why not to use this or that, encouragement ect. Is that not what this forum is for?
It is, but it is easier if there is something more tangible to talk about. The OP seems to indicate that there is a site to see.
A link to that would help at least the helpers.

  • Firefox tells me an offical Air Force web site is NOT safe. I have confirmed the correct link - but FF still said not to use. ??

I am trying to connect with the official Air Force link..gum-crm.csd.disa.mil
FF indicates that I would be in trouble if I continued to attempt to connect. I ask the AF for confirmation of the site and they confirmed what I have is GOOD.
    Thanks

I expect it has more to do with the military's encryption programming or security certificate. When you get the page that tells you it's unsecured try clicking on 'I understand the risks'. Under that is a button that says 'Add Exception' click on that. When the next dialog comes up it should have the URL in a box marked 'Location'. Next to that please click on 'Get Certificate'. Hopefully the Air Force has one you can retrieve in this manner. Make sure to check the box at the bottom that says 'Permanently store this exception' before you click on Confirm Security Exception. Best of luck!

  • Adobe AIR 4 Not reading a XML file larger than 10MB

I have an application where the XML file could be over 10MB in size. I am using XMLHttpRequest to read the file in. However, on Air 4, it results in null when the file is greater than 10MB in size. This was working until I updated to AIR 4. I can go back to a previous version of AIR and the loading of large file works.
    xml = new XMLHttpRequest( );
    xml.onreadystatechange = function( ){
        if( xml.readyState == 4 && xml.status == 200){
b[language] = xml.responseXML.documentElement; //Results in NULL when file size is greater than 10MB
            var tempTxt = "Loaded Database";
    xml.open( "GET", file.url, false);
    xml.send( null );
Why AIR limited the file size and any work around for this? The Request processes fine and readyState will become 4. However, xml.responseXML.documentElement will respond with a NULL.
    Thank you

It's difficult to tell what it is, it looks like a binary
pipe symbol but I can copy it from TextPad for example. Some of the
characters following it cannot be copied from TextPad which I
assume is because it's null. I can read the whole file in C#/.Net
and assign it to a string variable without any problems but perhaps
Air is somewhat limited to binary content.

I have tried several time to use the create application from
