  • Can't see other Macs/PCs on the network...

Since installing the Safari 6/Apple Remote Desktop Update I can't see other Macs/PCs on the network. If I restart I can see 2 Macs, but after a while they disappear, and I can see/connect to nothing...

If you are using DHCP check that it is getting the correct addressing. In the event that it is but still not working then test by giving it a fixed IP and see if it then works.

  • At a hotel, can see 3 other Macs in Finder - Security Issue??

I'm at a hotel that has wi-fi and am connected to the internets. In Finder, I can see 3 other Macs under Shared. Why are these appearing?? File and Printer Sharing were checked in System Preference (they are for home use). I unchecked File Sharing but could still see the other computers. One of them displayed as connected (VPN).
What are the security issues here? Is it normal to "see" other Macs this way? Does this mean someone was snooping around my files? How can I prevent this? Please advise and thanks.

If you don't want to share anything with others while in Public spaces then uncheck File Sharing options.
It sounds like they are allowing others to share/see their Mac's but that's no worry for you

  • Airdrop: can't find my mac with my iphone

    Hello,
i recently wanted to send a picture to my mac (using Yosemite and iOS 8) via airdrop but my iphone 5s could not find my mac. I did turn on bluetooth on both devices and am visible to anyone...
funnily enough my mac can find my iphone and i can send images, files etc.
    can anyone help me?

How old is your Mac? Pretty new it sounds like, but the older macs can't support AirDrop I know.

  • New Mac OS Server on network, Windows box can't see other Macs anymore

I just put a Mac mini server on my network and the only services I have enabled are SMB, AFP and Open Directory. Before I put the server on the network (and if I turn the server off) the Windows 7 Pro machine I have on the network used to be able to see the rest of the Macs on the network in the Network section... I could see them, log on to one, grab files, etc. This also went for the Macs seeing the PC on the network in the Finder. Now that I have the server on the network though, I can't see the PC on my Macs and can't see my Macs on the PC. I can, however, do a "Map network drive" on the PC and enter an address to one of the Macs and connect that way. Anyone know why this could be happening?
Like I said, if I turn the server off or disconnect it from the network, the Macs will see the PC and the PC will see the Macs, but once its back on the network, they stop seeing each other, so its definitely something the server is doing that's causing it.
    TIA

Confirm you have unique addresses and unique host names for the IP host names on your network. In absolute specifics, make absolutely certain your Mac OS X Server box is not configured at a conflicting address, or with a host name that conflicts with the Windows 7 box or with some other central and critical network resource such as your firewall or an IP router.
It's also possible you've got (for instance) a bad cable or a bad NIC and that's jamming up your network, though that's less likely.
Your Mac OS X Server box requires DNS be configured locally, or within your network.
Confirm unique host names. Confirm unique IP addresses. You can launch Terminal.app and use the dig command at the bash shell (+dig -x 192.168.1.1+ with whatever the local address, and +ping 192.168.1.1+ again with the local address and not with the 192.168.1.1 value shown, and +dig hostname.example.com+ or such for your domain name) or (if you're not comfortable in bash -- do go learn bash, regardless) then you can use the Network Utility in the Applications > Utilities folder.
It's also possible there's a problem with the managed switch configuration or such, but that probably isn't in use here.

  • Why can' I see other Mac in Shared area of Finder

    MBP with Snow Leopard
    MP with Leopard
    iMac with Leopard
The MBP shows the iMac and MP in the Shared area of the finder.
The MP show the iMac but not the MBP.
However, I can connect to the MBP by entering its IP address via Finder Connect to Server.
The MBP does show up in the MP's finder sometimes but I can't seem to figure out when or why. This is driving me nuts. Any ideas?
    Thanks.
The MBP can see the MP in the Finder under S

My suggestions for getting shares to show up under shared in finder fit here.
Both machines have no problem seeing a third machine that sleeps a couple of times per day.
    Can they connect to it?
Thanks for the ideas but it doesn't look like we have a solution yet.
You are very welcome. Post back if you think my inserts above are pertinent to your problem.

  • New Macbook Pro Can't See Other Macs

My Powerbook and iMac can see each other over the network and do file transfers, but my new Macbook Pro can't. The other computers show up in Bonjour Browser, but when I try to connect to them (either via their computer name, e.g. my-computer.local, or by ip) it can't. It tells me the address is wrong. It can't even ping them, and they can't ping it. It's weird because I can access both the internet and the router settings.

After I did that Airport stopped working. The menubar icon said "Airport not configured" and there were no network interfaces in System Preferences. So I tried just putting the airport prefs back, and restarting. The same thing happened, so I had to put the whole folder back where it was.

  • I can't see other Macs on my network.

I cannot see other Macs running OS X 10.7 (Lion) on my network in the sidebar of the finder. When I had Snow Leopard my friend could see me but I could not see him. I have tried enabling file sharing, but still nothing, and this was not enabled on Snow Leopard anyway. This is really confusing me.
    Thank you.

There's a strange Finder bug that is causing things to go invisible, usually it is drives, but occasionally it happens to folders (one guy had his applications folder become invisible). Take a look at this article I wrote on the problem:

  • Can't Access other Mac's Mounted Volume

OK, so I've done this before (in Snow Leopard), but maybe something has changed. I have a DMG on a server that I need access to. It won't mount on my Darth Pro anymore, but it does on an iMac also running Mavericks. I used to be able to connect to a shared Mac and be able to go to a "Volumes" folder and see drives that are mounted on THAT Mac. I can't seem to figure this out anymore.
I even tried making an alias to the folder I need on the desktop of the remote Mac, but it says "the original item can't be found." even though it's mounted and fully accessible locally.
Any thoughts how I can get to this volume?
    Thanks.

With 10.3.9 you would go System Preferences-> Accounts -> (click on an Account)-> Limitations, then either No Limits or Some Limits depending how they were originally set up.
You can adjust the criteria at this point.
You may want to try deleting an account that is least used and re-adding a different one in its place. This will give you an account to experiment with to see if it behaves as the other accounts you're having trouble with.
You'll likely be able to solve the problem by seeing what is different between this new account and your old ones.
Hope this helps. If so please let the Apple Discussion forum know.

  • NAS drives grayed out and can't connect to other Macs

    Hello All,
After upgrading my 15-inch, Mid 2010 MacBook Pro to Mavericks (10.9 13A603) my NAS storage drives are grayed out in Finder. I can't go directly to my NAS drive in Finder. I can't simply click on the NAS drives in Finder and see what is in the directory. The directories are grayed out!.
In order for me to connect to my NAS stotage drive I have to go to "DEVICES" on the leftside of the Finder window and then click on the MacBook Pro HD. From there I have to click on "Network." From "Network" I can get a slow connection to my NAS.
As for as connection to other Macs in my office, I have to take the same steps above. I can't connect directly to the other Macs in my office in Finder. Nether can the other Macs connect to other Macs! All Macs in the office are set up to allow both AFP and SMB. However, one lonely 2009 iMac in our office is still on Mountian Lion and it can connect to other Macs and the our NAS without problems.
One strange things this, I can do a Screen Share to the other Macs from my 2010 MacBook Pro! I can't connect directly in Finder, but I can do a Screen Share. Strange!
Is there a fix for this or was Marverick let out the jungle to earily?
    Help! and Thanks!

I forgot to add that everything was previously connected via an Airport express wireless system. I just got an Airport Extreme system which hasn't changed things a bit.

  • I can see other Macs on network, but I can't connect via afp, smb or Bonjour

    Hello.
I have a Mac Pro running 10.6.8, a Macbook Pro running Lion, an Ipad 2nd generation and an Iphone 4. All the devices "see" each other, but I am unable to establish a connection.
For instance: I can see the other mac in the finder, but a connection can't be made neither via clicking or using command + K
I can see my iTunes libraries in the remote app, but it wont connect to the iTunes library. Same with iChat: in the Bonjour network both macs see each other, but no message is delivered.
However, I can connect to the harddrive, that is connected to my airport extreme. Previously I thought my router was the problem, but now I exchanged it with this airport Extreme.
In another thread I read something about adding 10.0.1.* to "Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts and Domains" in the network proxy settings, but this did not help. Although I am not sure if I entered it right.
Any ideas how to resolve this problem?

    Hi,
Please turn off the Windows Firewall in the Control Panel for test:
Control Panel->type firewall in the search box->Windows Firewall->Turn Windows Firewall on or off->Turn off
    Windows Firewall (not recommended)->OK
    Then Make sure all computer
    turn on the network discovery.
Also, apps that are managed from non-domain servers cannot see or control this Windows 7 machine
In addition, make sure the Server, Windows 7 and other comouter in the same network. Otherwise it can't be accessed each other.

  • How can I link my ML license with the MAS so I can upgrade other Macs?

    Hi folks,
I've just purchased a new MacBook Air that shipped with the new Mountain Lion OS.
I've setup this new MacBook Air and logged into the Mac App Store on it to download previous purchases so my Apple ID is registered on this new MacBook Air and working.
However when I log onto the Mac App Store from my Mac Pro —which is still running Lion— I cannot see the license for the new Mountain Lion under the "Purchased" section so I cannot upgrade this Mac.
Is there any way of 'activating' or linking the license that shipped with the new MacBook Air to my Mac App Store account so I can upgrade my other Macs to Mountain Lion?
    Thanks for reading.

Ah nice, thanks for the answer. I had a feeling this might be the case but wanted to get some reassurance from this community before purchasing the OS via the App Store.
    Thanks.

  • Can I connect multiple Mac's using the Airport Express?

As subject. I have got an Intel iMac and a MacBook. Can I connect them using the Airport Express? Or in another word, to create a network among them that I can see the other Mac on one Mac?
Sorry, if I raised a silly question. But really like to know.
    Many thanks in advance.

  • Can't streaming with MAC

Hi, hope some one can help me.
I have a big collection in iTunes: 116,000 Mp3, 1,500 Mp4 and a lot of TV series. The issue is that I can't streaming with my iMac 20'' 2ghz intel core duo ''but'' the strange thing ''using the exactly same library'' I can streaming with others MACs (like Macbook Pro 2.4) and others PCs. I can streming my library with all kind of computers but I can't with this iMac. This iMac is kind brand new, this one have all the original settings.
I use iTV 40gb and the new Aiport Extreme 802.11n, the iMac and the iTV has comunication between the 2 devices, my library appears in the iTV but when I click in the library its take 6-8 minutes and then the iTV resets. I have choose reset to factory and everything but no luck.
If I streming a smaller library (like 50,000 Mp3) have no problem with the streaming but the problem is the size of the library in this particular iMac. I repeat, others MACs and PCs have no problem.
    Please help me. Regards.

Perhaps the network between this mac and the tv is slower than between other mac/pcs and the larger libraries are timing out while trying to load.
