Aliases unavailble in mail

It seems I am unable to send mail from any of my aliases in mail which I brought with me from my Mobile Me account. I used to be able to decide which alias I would send email from, but now I suddenly can´t change the sender email adress, can not even sign into my account to check my aliases either. Anyone knowing if this is a common problem?

it seems it works only on iCloud.com but not when using the Mail program on my MacPro. It just can´t be right that this happens, and it can´t be so hard to fix?

  • HT4897 Using aliases with icloud mail

When using aliases in icloud mail is there a way the recipient does not see your real icloud email address?  Right now when using an aliase the recipient get my real email address in the header of the message and it was sent on behalf of the the aliase.

    Hello KYMP0R,
Using an alias should conceal your actual iCloud email address, even in the headers of messages sent. You may need to verify that you are sending messages from that alias. In order to send a message from your alias, select that address in the From field when composing a message.
Send a message from a different account. Tap the From field to choose an account.

  • Aliases and Sending Mail

I'm running iMS 5.1. I'm wanting to be able to allow webmail users to specify an alias address without the domain for sending mail. I.E... user zzUser is aliased to some.user. In the webmail client I want someone to be able to type in just "zzUser" instead of "[email protected]". Is this possible?
    Thanks,
    Patrick Danko

Not completely sure I understand what your asking, but if you Enabled virtual hosts in server admin>Mail>Advanced>Hosting and entered domain1.com, domain2.com, etc., The only thing you have to do is enter the short name in the Workgroup Manager like johndomain1com, and enter an alias underneath [email protected], and so on for the rest. The mail server resolves the alias from there on.
We usually, to keep things organized by domain in WGM, enter the short name like domain1-com-john, and add an alias of [email protected], then domain2-com-john, and alias [email protected]

  • Using Aliases to deliver mail to multiple accounts

I'm looking at OS X Server as a possible email server upgrade from an OLD Linux box.  On our current server we have aliases setup to archive all incoming and outgoing email to another account. That one account then checks email via POP and then it is archived on another client computer for record keeping and CYA. It looks like this:
    [email protected]     user, archive
    [email protected]     user2, archive
    etc....
Can this be done on OS X Server as well?  I can't really tell from searches on the net or in the forums.
    Many thanks!

Yes, it can. In Server Admin's mail settings, there's an option to copy all mail to a certain address you specify.

  • How to delete old email aliases from Mac Mail?

I have been a Mac user since the '90s and like many, evolved up from the original OS X to today's Lion.  10 years ago, we created email aliases in a very early version of Mac Mail and today, they still populate the drop-down menu when I'm selecting the email account to send from.  Since there are 3 total aliases x 2 accounts (.Mac and .Me), I have 6 unneeded addresses which I'd like to delete.
I cannot use iCloud for this, as it shows that I do  not have any aliases..  so there is nothing to delete.
Any ideas on how to clean up the email address drop-down and delete the old aliases?
    Thanks everyone!
    Eric

Open Mail's preferences, and edit the SMTP outgoing server list. Delete any servers for these accounts.
You said you checked iCloud for this. I assume you meant you went to iCloud.com and checked the accounts there for aliases.

  • Mail Aliases Unavailable in Mail App After Mavericks Upgrade

Upgraded to Mavericks on iMac and now my iCloud aliases are not available in the From field in the Mail app.  When I log into iCloud through the browser, they are availalble. Use the same Apple ID on iPad and iPhone and aliases are available in Mail.  Any ideas?

Using the same iCloud account that was used prior to upgrading from Mountain Lion to Mavericks.  Could choose the iCloud alias when composing a new message in Mail prior to upgrading.  None of the aliases are showing now.  Can choose to send from an alias on iPad, iPhone and when logged into iCloud through a browser.  Same account used across all devices.

  • Why has one of my email aliases stopped receiving mail?

I've checked the accounts tab in my icloud mail preferences on icloud.com, I've checked the preferences in my mail app, and on my iphone, and the alias is listed but no longer receiving mail. I've just tested the alias by sending an email to it and it bounced back with the message
The error that the other server returned was:
550 5.1.1 unknown or illegal alias
I'm at a loss. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

It seems to be working again. At one point I did disable this alias on icloud, but despite having turned it back on and checking all devices to make sure it was active it still wasn't working. I had to disable my entire icloud account through the mac mail app, then re-anable it for the alias to start accepting emails agian.

  • .Mac mail aliases from iPhone

Have been searching about this, but could not find the answer. Does anyone know how (or if it is possible) to use .Mac aliases when sending mails from iPhone?
    Thanks.
    SCBZK

Thanks. Did help. Though, after trying number of days with this, it is getting annoying to receive copies of all mails addressed to any of my .Mac account, into every alias I have made on my iPhone...
Maybe, I must wait until Apple does something about this.
BTW, already submitted a request to Apple, fyi.

  • Mssgs addressed to .Mac Mail aliases

Does anyone know why mail addressed to my .Mac Mail aliases does not get delivered to my iLife '05 Mail on my computer? The mail addressed to my aliases is delivered only to my .Mac Mail on the internet. I have the aliases set up in Mail/Preferences/Accounts of my iLife Mail on my computer. I read in the discussion posts that I cannot send mail from these alias accounts with iLife '05--can't I receive mail either???

    You're welcome.
Will email addressed to a .mac alias be delivered to the
Mail Application as well as the .mac Mail Account on the web?
    Yes they should.
I set up the aliases in the Mail Application at Mail>Preferences>Accounts.
Did you set up the aliases per the instructions included in this link?

  • Hiding mail aliases?

Is there a way to hide or remove mail aliases from the mail account pull down menu when sending mail?
Currently, there are 10 accounts/aliases listed in the pull down, between my and my wife's MobileMe accounts and aliases (each alias is listed as in both mac.com and me.com form)
I use aliases for incoming mail sorting. I always want to send mail from my (or my my wife's) primary mac.com account.

AFAIK, this is not possible. the only thing I can suggest is to set a fixed "from" address in Mail preferences->composing so that all new messages automatically have that "from address".

  • Email aliases are still there... Only in the ipad!

    Hello!
I have succesfully deleted old aliases from my MAIL app and my iphone, but there are still in the ipad and I can't seem to be able to get rid of them.
    Can anybody help, please?

They can only be saved in one email folder. If you select the account on the right-hand side of Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and on the next screen tap on the email account id at the top of it :
Then tap Advanced at the bottom of the popup, and then Sent Mailbox :
You should then be able to select which folder the emails sent from that account on your iPad are saved in (the folder that you select should get a tick against it) e.g

  • Possible Stupid Question on Aliases

We're on iMS/SunONE 5.2. What I've yet to figure out is how to do something so simple that I may be overlooking the obvious solution. This is to duplicate what /etc/aliases does in sendmail. I.E take an email address which does not match a particular existing user and deliver that message to the specifed recipient. There are two aspects of this which I need to address.
    1) Delivery of inbound mail if account is local. For example... [email protected] to [email protected] I think I understand this as I just need to add an alternate address for bob.jones into the ldap. Not centralized but the concept makes sese.
    2) Forwarding of inbound mail to other mail servers. For example [email protected] to [email protected].edu where our.listserv.edu is handled by a seperate mail server. In this case the /etc/aliases file sendmail uses makes this dirt simple. Unfortunately i've poured through the iMS docs and have yet to find how to do this. It may have to do with terminology as I'm not sure what iMS calls this type of proceedure. We have many of these (hundreds) and not having a centralized way of handling these would be very very difficult. What is the solution here?
    Thanks,
    -Patrick

Not a stupid question at all, I fought with the same concept coming from sendmail. The concept is that it's simple to redirect mail using the aliases file (/etc/mail/aliases) and it only took one line to do it.
Under iMS you need to expand your mind and accept that ldap is <insert deity> and everything is done differently.
Alias entries need to be adapted to one of -
    individual accounts (mailalternateaddress)
    or
a new ldap entry with it's forward settings going to your other addresses.
    or
a mail list, for local one to many distributions.
This applies to direct ldap and dirsync mode, however if you're running in dirsync mode, ensure you run the dirsync after making changes.
Finally, if you create an aliases file in -
    <msg-home>/config/aliases
and you are thorough on the addresses, they still work.
Just my experience, search for "aliases" in the forum.

  • Virtual Domains and Aliases - the sequel

    Ok pterobyte
I have successfully set up virtual domains and aliases on several systems including Mac OS 10.4 - now i'm trying to set up a brand new xserve to host a local domain and several virtual domains...
I have followed pterobytes method of creating virtual domains and aliases etc. However, whether I use /etc/postfix/aliases (for local users) or /etc/postfix/virtual for virtual users - I cannot get the mail to go to two addresses at the same time.
The mail.log only records the mail being sent to local mail box.
    Here's an example:
local user example (remote.com is a remote domain where mail should be forwarded to as well as sent to local mail box.)
    #aliases
    local_guy [email protected], [email protected]
    virtual user example
    #virtual
    [email protected] virtual_guy, [email protected]
"virtual.com" is set up as a virtual domain in SA Mail and mail.virtual.com is that users mail server in WGM.
BTW in pterobyte's latest pdf manual shortname 3 says "shortname3-x: aliases for e-mail address under shortname2" what does that mean?
As I said mail delievers correctly locally but does NOT go to the remote address. Does anyone have a clue what else I can look at?
    anyone?

  • Mail.app Different FROM ALIAS not full account change. NOT ".mac" HOW?!!

    Hey there.
So I use forwarding aliases from various domains and have no interest in stopping this. Mail.app doesn't seem to have any way to switch the FROM address (not the replyto, but the actual from address) if you don't set up an entirely new account. I thought I could get around this by just setting up another account, however mail checks to see that the account logs in properly, and if it's the same account that you have another address set to it doesn't let you duplicate it cause it doesn't want to download the same mail twice every time or something. Of ourse I just wanted to tell it not to download the mail on the second account. Anyway, I need a way to have one account that's with my ISP [email protected] or whatever that I log into, but have like 5 others that it sends from [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] etc. but since all of these addresses forward to my main mail account I can't have a separate login for each of them.
I'm getting the impreassion that everyone who uses mail is just boxed in by the concepts handed to them, cause NO ONE seems to be talking about this issue. Unless I'm a complete idiot and am missing something obvious.
I found one other account of such a problem and the person also had a .mac account so everyone told him to just switch to always using the .mac account.
    That's a totally unacceptable answer!
Anyway, I recently switched from Eudora which CAN do this with no problems. THe only problem is, eudora isn't integrated with address book, and more importantly, doesn't handle Japanese well.
If anyone can be of help I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

As if it wasn't doing this before.
Well, you're right that adding aliases to a mail account has no effect on the mail that's collected there, and that the statement you quoted is misleading. Problem is, that statement doesn't appear in the Mail Help's "Adding multiple email alias addresses to an account" article I was referring to, so I had no idea what were you talking about.
I've been able to find the article you've quoted in Apple's knowledge base:
Mac OS X: Using email aliases in Mail
I agree that the last part of this article is poorly written, but it's not in Mail Help, and it doesn't appear when typing alias in Mail Help's search box as I suggested.
    I'm assuming all is well.
Let us know if that's not the case.
