All but EPMA 11.1.1.3 working

Through some kind of miracle, I actually managed to install 11.1.1.3 on a 32-bit Windows 2003 Server VM and got everything (EAS, Annotation Server, Apache, Calc Manager, Essbase, FDM, HFM, Financial Reporting, OpenLDAP, Shared Services, EIS, Profitability, HPS, RMI Registry, WA, Workspace Agent, and Workspace Web Application) installed and actually working.
I will not embarass myself publicly with the number of times I had to install to get to this stage or how long it took. It was ugly, but luckily VMWare Workstation has a really nice snapshot function. If I ever needed confirmation that I am not an installer, this experience cemented that notion.
Okay, the whine is over, here is the question -- I cannot get EPMA to run. What am I doing wrong?
EPMA Architect - Web Application works (the service runs, that is), as does EPMA Data Syncronization - Web Application, but the .Net JNI Bridge service will not start, nor will Engine Manager, Event Manager, Job Manager, or Process Manager.
I think Process Manager is the key to all of this. When I try to start it, there is no error in epma.log or in epma_err.log.
However, when I go into Windows Event Viewer, and see the failure to start of Process Manager, I see the following:
Service cannot be started. Hyperion.DimensionServer.ProcessManager.Interface.ProcessManagerException: Cannot initialize the Session Manager. ---> Hyperion.DataAccessLayerCore.DataAccessLayerException: Database connectivity could not be established. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.)

   at System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionFactory.GetConnection(DbConnection owningConnection)
   at System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionClosed.OpenConnection(DbConnection outerConnection, DbConnectionFactory connectionFactory)
   at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.Open()
at Hyperion.Data...I see the SQL error, but wonder why no other piece of the EPM install has an issue with SQL Server. This install uses SQL Server Express 2005. I read the steps on this MSDN page -- I already had all of these settings and am not running a firewall.
Any help would be most appreciated -- I am so close on this, I can almost taste it.

Cameron Lackpour

Hi Cameron,
I have a vm using SQL server express 2005, it is running without any issues though I can replicate the error if I change connection details for the JBDC configuration, I updated the port in the config from 1433 to 14331
Started up process manager, failed..
Service cannot be started. Hyperion.DimensionServer.ProcessManager.Interface.ProcessManagerException: Cannot initialize the Session Manager. ---> Hyperion.DataAccessLayerCore.DataAccessLayerException: Database connectivity could not be established. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. If you go into \Hyperion\common\config\9.5.0.0 and double click epmsys_registry.bat, it should generate a web page.
In there should be your (DATABASE_CONN) for EPMA
e.g.
Property Name Property Value
version 9.5.0.0
dbUserName epmadmin
dbPort 14331
dbName EPMA
dbPassword s1GPi7aeT5zUdQIpxfsiJQ
dbJdbcUrl jdbc:hyperion:sqlserver://epmversion11:14331;DatabaseName
Does your connection details look all correct.
I take it you are using the default instance with SQL server express e.g. <SERVERNAME>\SQLEXPRESS
You can that when you log into SQL Server Management Studio express.
New years eve and Cameron has turned to the darkside known as EPMA.... definitely more to life :)
Cheers
